With tight technical skills and a strong vision for his program he has a good shot at qualifying for the Olympic figure skating team. He's confident he can balance school, practice, and qualifiers at the expense of his college social life. But he's not the only one with big aspirations this season.
Christos, a minotaur fresh from minor league hockey, is hungry to build a new reputation for the worst team in the college league. Roderick has little interest in hockey, especially a losing team. But a late night chat on a dating app has him intimately familiar with ‘Coach Chris’ before the season’s start.
They have everything to lose but denial is hard for two go-getters. Even if Christos is totally into denial. But when perfection is Roderick's standard, can anyone really live up to expectations?

I’ll be real: I had a bloody good time with this one.
As someone with little knowledge of sports, that side of things was easy to follow. As someone who doesn’t massively enjoy smut, I thought there was the right amount of it. And I think the character work was genuinely amazing.
Roderick isn’t the sort of character I usually enjoy reading, but Fairview managed to make him relatable and gave him some areas of likability. Christos I thought was very well written, incredibly likeable and his choices throughout made sense to me. Probably the one I liked more of the two, but he worked well opposite Rod and they genuinely made a compelling couple. I love that their dynamic is different than other couples I’ve read. Having the smaller character being the more dominant personality while the bigger guy acting as the submissive, it’s a fun reversal of a the expected roles, and I think that part is written very well. Terrance was my fave character though. He was so sweet.
The addition of the fantasy creatures is so natural. From the first chapter one a character is casually described as having antlers and it sets up what “normal” in this world is, making each subsequent supernatural creature introduction feel less out of place than it normally would.
I feel like things near the end wrapped up a little too quickly, but it wasn’t enough to detract from my experience significantly.
This was a fun little read that gave me something to consider. What indeed if I sexted with someone mostly anonymously and then they turned out to be a person in a position of power over me. I would have loved this book if Rod didn’t take such a turn towards the end. I received this book directly from the author (whom I found on Threads!) and this is my honest review. 4-4.25 stars.
As an ARC reader, I had the distinct pleasure of diving into A.A. Fairview's Edge Jump, and I can confidently say this book is a thrilling and unique addition to the romance genre. Fairview masterfully blends MM monster romance with sports romance, creating a narrative that is both unexpected and utterly captivating. The story centers around Roderick, a dedicated human figure skater with Olympic aspirations, and Christos, a minotaur hockey coach striving to rebuild his team's reputation. Their paths cross in a delightful and steamy way, leading to a secret relationship that challenges their ambitions and perceptions. The dynamic between Roderick, the seemingly smaller but more dominant figure skater, and Christos, the physically imposing yet surprisingly sweet minotaur, is a refreshing reversal of typical tropes. This age gap and size difference pairing is explored with sensitivity and a healthy dose of dirty texts, making for a truly sweet and spicy read.Fairview's world-building is subtle yet effective. The inclusion of mythical creatures, like Christos the minotaur, feels entirely natural within the narrative, seamlessly smaller but more dominant figure skater, and Christos, the physically imposing yet surprisingly sweet minotaur, is a refreshing reversal of typical tropes. The inclusion of mythical creatures, like Christos the minotaur, feels entirely natural within the narrative, seamlessly integrating fantasy elements into a contemporary sports setting. This effortless blend prevents the monster romance aspect from feeling forced, instead enriching the story with a unique charm. The sports elements, particularly the figure skating and hockey, are well-researched and engaging, adding another layer of depth to the characters' lives and struggles. What truly stands out in Edge Jump is the character development. Roderick's journey of self-discovery and balancing his personal desires with his professional goals is compelling. Christos, with his endearing personality and internal conflicts, is equally well-crafted. Their chemistry is palpable, and their journey to navigate a forbidden romance while pursuing their dreams is both heartwarming and exhilarating. The supporting characters, such as Roderick's friends and Christos's team, add humor and depth, making the world feel vibrant and lived-in.While the pacing felt a little rushed towards the very end, it did not significantly detract from my overall enjoyment. Edge Jump is a solid story that delivers on its promises of unique romance, engaging characters, and a fresh take on beloved tropes. If you're looking for a low-angst, plot-driven MM romance with a fantastic blend of sports and monster elements, Edge Jump is an absolute must-read. It's a fun, addictive read that will leave you rooting for Roderick and Christos until the very last page.

⭐️ 5/5 - enjoyed the plot, characters, and the bit or the world building that we do get. I hope that we get stories about the side characters, because i enjoyed them just as much as the main couple.
🌶 5/5 - the intimate scenes were well done, at times a but funny (Christos needs to buy more towels. IYKYK), have a tad bit daddy dom, edging, and consent.
☠️ 0/5 - no violence

Do you enjoy Sports romance (Figure skating / Hockey) MM Age gap Some dom / sub fun in the bedroom Acts of service (mostly cooking) Hockey Coach / Figure skater Dating app HFN Shooting for a gold medal Just a tad bit of angst And maybe falling in love? Then you should definitely check this one out.

I enjoyed the characters so much. I liked how Roderick tried to setup rules to keep them safe and allow their relationship, but didn't actually talk to Christos about it. Because this happens. There are no perfect relationships, and at times that is nice to see in what I am reading. What I loved, is how Christos tried so hard to keep to those rules. Those boundaries. To keep Roderick in his life. Even when he really juat wanted to talk to Rod about his day which includes his skating, his classes, his life. Because those things, make up apart of who we are. I also REALLY loved, how the big strong Christos was the more submissive, shy, soft one. As that is not usually the norm in MM romance. The big strong guy is so often the top, who is loud, overzealous, etc. Which yes that does happen, but so does them being soft, shy and a bottom.
I really kinda hope this becomes a series and we get to find out about all the side characters and them finding love as well. Because some of them are so fascinating.
I think that even if you are not into sports (Hockey or Figure Skating), you can enjoy this book as well. Any needed information about each sport is shared when speaking in depth about it.

"Christos isn’t a distraction. He’s motivation. Gold metals are nice but beefy bottoms with a degradation kink are way better." - Roderick
Three stars for the raunchy messages that had me laughing my head off.
*Edge Jump* is an MM sports romance; there aren’t any major innovations or anything particularly unique about this novel—it is exactly what it claims to be, and these days, that’s a refreshing thing. Since I know nothing about hockey or ice skating, I have to admit that I didn’t understand the more technical parts, and the explanations about jump scores or the complexity of Roderick’s routines left me cold.
What I did appreciate was the fem-top & buff-bottom dynamic, which, to this day, is still fairly rare—undoubtedly a holdover from the old days when yaoi reigned supreme and stereotypes were pretty set in stone. I also appreciated the soft dom/sub dynamic, though I think it could have been explored a bit more deeply. I found it very realistic and relatable how Roderick struggles to stop counting the calories in the food he eats and, in general, how he struggles to let go when he’s had to maintain strict control over himself his whole life.
I also find it very refreshing that at a certain point there’s a moment when both Roderick and Alex ask themselves who they are without skating and whether it’s worth making all those sacrifices—leaving behind relationships, friendships, and experiences. I think it’s something every young athlete finds themselves thinking about sooner or later.
However, I would have really appreciated a little more drama. The story is nice, but it would have benefited from something that made the reader anxious, something that made them doubt whether the protagonists would end up together at some point. It really lacks that gasp factor.
This book is for anyone who loves a cosy MM sports romance with hot AF monsters, funny banter and saucy messages! This romance is between a human figure skater aiming for gold at the next Olympics and the new hockey coach minotaur who has been hired to improve the bottom of the league hockey team. They originally meet through a hook up app, there's instant chemistry and plans, but Roderick instantly recognises the minotaur when he meets the new coach. They have to navigate through their feelings and how there friendship quickly becomes more. It's a very sweet, low angst, fun monster romance with dom/ sub vibes and a 14 year ago gap. I really enjoyed it overall, I wasn't a fan of single POV, but it was a really lovely read and I'm hoping for more from the side characters in the future! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read your book early!
A sweet and spicy mm monster book that blends sports and romance.
Roderick has to balance school, practice, qualifiers for the Olympic figure skating team and social life. Plus a hot new guy on a dating app enters his life. The problem? It’s the new coach of the hockey team of Roderick’s college.
Between their forbidden encounters and managing his high schedules, it was beautiful to see Roderick growing, choosing his true self and determining his own life.
Loved how Christos is understanding and completely gone for him. The other side characters are just as good.
Spicy dom/sub dynamic, age gap, home-cooked dinners, cozy night chats, filthy text between a human and a Minotaur: what’s better?
I went in thinking I knew what the dynamic was going to be, and it completely flipped it. The ice skater being the more confident, take-charge one actually made so much sense once you get into it—he’s super precise, disciplined, and just very sure of himself.
And then you’ve got the Minotaur hockey coach who seems all big and intimidating at first, but is actually a lot softer than you expect. Their personalities balance each other really well, and the contrast between them (graceful skater vs. rough hockey coach) makes it even better.
It’s cute, a little chaotic, and easy to get through. Definitely one of those reads that just makes you smile while you’re reading it.
A.A. Fairview you evil mastermind. It's really pretty simple; they write a monster romance and I read it. An age gap, MM, figure skater x hockey coach, with a minotaur love interest and a gay fem top!?!?! God, I ate this up!!! A.A. Fairview is the chief of cute and horny monster romance books. I loved Roderick's grumpy, loner attitude and his journey to become who he wants to be (even if it puts his potential olympic win at risk). Part of what endeared him to me so quickly is his biting remarks. He's kind of an asshole, but he's my asshole. A grown man can be a baby girl and Christos is proof of that. He's so in love with Roderick from their first steamy text exchange and he's quick to accept the smallest thing he can get if it's from Roderick. They're so cute!!!
A fun unique blend of of mm monster romance and sports romance. Thank you to the author for an advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I appreciated the atypical approach to the MCs. The smaller Roderick is more dominant and the larger Minotaur, Christos, is sweet and very likable. I felt they complimented one another wonderfully.
I enjoyed the sports parts (I’m not really into sports). They were written with an ease to understand and follow along.
The characters had depth and the character development was well done, especially with Roderick. Their texts were steamy and fun. Their chemistry was palpable.
I was a lucky recipient of Edge Jump and I really did enjoy this book! Generally, I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to sports romances. If the sports are well done, then that's half the battle. And both sports were done well and with care.
I really enjoy the main characters, Rod and Christos, but Christos is a gift. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two of them. In general, all of the characters were great and felt like real people, even if they were mythical creatures. And that alone, is a feat.
1st Person POV, Single MM Plot 3.5/5 Spice 2/5 Human/ Minotaur Figure Skater/ Hockey Coach Age Gap Slight Dom/Sub dynamic
This is a pretty low angst easy read, very plot driven. I loved that Christos was the sweet almost shy one in the relationship, while Rod even though he was younger was the more dominate one. I also adored the friends group Rod had! All the hockey players were so supportive of him and they really were great! ( Really hoping Terrence and Leroy just happen to you know... fall madly in love... 🤣🤣)
It was a surprisingly engaging read that mixed competitive sports with fantasy in a way that felt fresh instead of forced. The story follows two driven athletes from very different worlds, and the tension between ambition and personal connection gave the book a lot of heart. The skating scenes felt vivid, and the emotional moments landed well without becoming overly dramatic.
I love that the Top is not who everyone would expect. It shows that Queer couples come in different shapes and sizes which made me feel seen. Thank you
This was such a fun time! I’ve read a couple of Minotaur romances before, but not with this dynamic, which I loved! Roderick and Christos are so great together, and I found their small moments just as enjoyable as their intimate moments. Oh, and when things heat up, they are sooo good 🔥
The cast of side characters were all amazing, and I would love to see other stories, perhaps involving one of them! Highly recommend reading this if you’re looking for a quick, relatively low-angst monster romance!
I NEED MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR IMMEDIATELY. *clears throat* Okay lemme settle it down y'all. Right now I just lsdkjfasdf. I loved this so much. There's sweet, there's sassy, bratty, sexy, and just over all deliciousness. I love Roderick and Christos together so much. I haven't read many minotaur romances but this one is by far my favorite of the few I've read to be honest. It's just so...raw and genuine. I know so very little about hockey and figure skating, but it doesn't matter. Going into this book you just need to have a love for Big Bottoms and messy boys.
This was such a fun and unexpectedly sweet monster sports romance. A human figure skater chasing Olympic dreams and a minotaur hockey coach absolutely should not work on paper… and yet somehow it really does.
What I enjoyed most was the dynamic between Roderick and Christos. The size difference and age gap create an interesting contrast on their own, but I especially loved the role reversal energy between them. Roderick may be younger and physically smaller, but he absolutely knows what he wants, while Christos has this softer, more vulnerable side underneath the intimidating exterior. Their chemistry felt natural from the start, especially through all the flirty messages and awkwardly sweet moments.
The story leans much more cozy and low angst than dramatic, which made it a fun, entertaining read. There’s plenty of spice, playful banter, and emotional growth woven throughout as the relationship develops alongside Roderick’s skating career and Christos trying to rebuild his hockey team.
Overall this was a charming, fluffy MM romance with a fun twist on familiar tropes. If you love monster romance, sports romance, age gaps, role reversals, dirty texts, and soft dom/sub dynamics, this one is definitely worth checking out.
Femme top - Minotaur bottom, is the combo I didn’t know I was missing!
Honestly, I found it extremely refreshing the change up of roles that are generally stereotyped. A.A. Fairview had legitimately good reasons for their preferences. The Minotaur was used to people always expecting him to be the big beefy jock and bone them. Meanwhile Roderick as a male figure skater obviously most expected him to be the bottom. Both men hated having those expectations from previous lovers, so I found this story highly unique in its reversal of roles. Thank you 🙏🏼
A figure skating twink who is a soft dom and an ice hockey coach Minotaur with a sub side come together in this story. Told from Rod’s (the twink/dom) perspective showing his personal growth as a young man falling for an older male whilst juggling college and a professional skating career. The spice is realistic and fun. The relationship is rocky and sometimes the miscommunication can be frustrating as a reader. If you are looking for mm romantic fluff this is a good read.
Honestly, what is there not to love about this? Figure skating, hockey, age gap, daddy, *literal* 🥜 busting. Plus you know, one of them is a straight up minotaur.
This was such a cute, wickedly dirty paranormal romance that would make any monster lover happy. It was extremely well written, it had a pretty good flow to the story, and for me, it was extremely low angst which I loved. Definitely one I would recommend!
I gotta say, I loved this! The dynamic between the two MCs was so real and special! I loved all the banter with the hockey players and Rod's friends as well as between Rod and Chris.
I've never read any figure skating books before so I liked all the scenes with skating involved and how it connected with hockey!
It's like a figure skating/hockey MM romance with a side of Minotaur... always keeping me on my toes!!
A compelling story. The romance was great, full of sweet little domestic and romantic touches. There was “mean” kink promised that never happened, aw. But the sweet kindness was also nice. The Minotaur aspect was interesting — but how was Christos getting his shirts off over his horns? The life balance story arc was excellently done. It had Alysa Liu energy. I was beside myself when Roderick was being a bad friend but you can’t keep Terrence down for long. Hoping he gets a book too, and that we see more of the Dingbats and their underdog journey future books. CW in the name of figure skating conditioning, the MC had the thoughts/behaviors of disordered eating.
I love the monster filled world of A. A. Fairview. I adored “Mother of Pearl” and “Edge Jump” was just as much fun! It is light and witty but with just enough conflict to keep me on the edge of my seat. The main character is relatable and easy to read and the ending was sweet and satisfying. I will definitely be buying a copy when Edge Jump comes out officially!
I enjoyed this book. Very cute and low angst age gap PNR. Minotaur collage hockey coach and Olympic hopeful figure skater college student that originally meet on an app before knowing who each other are.
Such a fun ARC read! Definitely heart warming and sweet without being over complicated. The dynamics between the couple caught me by surprise in the best way!
