This one has that soft but intense romantasy feel that pulls you in quietly and then refuses to let go.
McKenna’s journey from hiding her whole life to being thrown into Draylis feels emotional and personal. I really liked the slow uncovering of her past and the mystery surrounding her mother, it keeps you turning pages without overwhelming you. Jyeson’s protectiveness adds that gentle tension, especially since it’s closed door and focuses more on connection than spice.
What stood out most to me was the found family aspect and the constant pull between loyalty and truth. You can feel McKenna’s struggle as the danger rises and she has to decide who she’s willing to hurt, or protect.
And yes… that cliffhanger? It definitely leaves you needing the next book.
