The story grabs you and keeps you in a chokehold. I read this one in a day and that’s with me constantly putting it down.
The author is a genius when it comes to tension, suspense, longing, anticipation, and gut punching moments. You never know where she is going. Nothing about her stories are obvious. By the end, you will be shocked and guess what will happen next and will be decidedly wrong. I love all of that. Annnnnd ADG writes a really good spice scene.
The negatives: first is the repetition. I felt like the MCs had the same conversation a million times throughout the story. If Gabby was going to move on from the cheating then lawdy stop bringing it up. Sarah kept bringing up Links failed marriage. And Link kept bringing up how much he loved gabby and how bad he messed up. That was annoying.
I’ve read three of her four series (including this one) and the three main characters are pretty similar if not the same ppl in different circumstances. The MMCs are all the same and how they treat the white FMC vs the blk FMCs is similar. The white MMC publicly chose the white FMC while lightweight terrorizing the blk FMC and making sure she stays single. The white FMCs are quasi-villains and semi crazy/delusional. They are jealous of the blk FMC even tho they get the somewhat better version, public love and affection of the MMC. And the blk FMCs are doormats with slight back bones that are ruled by hormones. They will fuss and argue, but will fall back into being the MMCs doormat. They put up with a level of disrespect that is disappointing as a blk female reader. I just want the blk FMCs to not tolerate the bs from the MMC and be more demanding of appreciation or no contact. Then, I would love it if when the FMC found a person outside of the MMC, they actually liked them and gave the situation a chance.
Link is unlikeable and the fact that Gabby allows him in her presence or keeps finding her way into his is pathetic. I don’t know how to process the DV aspect. It makes me not like the MCs even more. But even with that said, I’m still interested and anticipating what will happen next. I just hope this is the series when the blk fmc puts herself first, the white FMC gets her just due, and the MMC either does a sufficient amount of groveling or realizes that he passed over a great thing.
If nothing else, I hope this story turns for the better and there is some character growth for all the MMCs. But I also hope that the blk FMC gets a clue and stop allowing ppl to mistreat her especially the white FMC.
Sweet baby Jesus are you kidding me right now?! This series just gets more and more intense per book. I love how we are learning learning so much more about the characters, a bit of the backstory, and being introduced to side characters that are enriching the story as well. Some of the reviews were saying that they took away from the Lincoln and Gabrielle aspect, but I disagree. I see how the others interacting with Lincoln & Gabrielle actually in the story. We got to see how they behaved in the real world, not only with each other, which, in my opinion would’ve been a very boring book! This book found the shoe on the other foot a bit so to speak. You really got to see Gabby get her own!!! She was definitely due to “get hers” boy did she! I kept reading in the reviews again, Lincoln was just this big old piece of shite how selfish and cold and weak spine he was. I had this completely different view of them than what I read myself today. I actually felt for Lincoln, I had tears in my eyes for him, he is human something that we all seem to forget. He did make a massive mistake that can never be taken back. And yeah, if Gabrielle can’t forgiven for it? I do believe she should definitely try to move on because I can let you know now, I have never forgiven a cheater it happened a few times to me, and I never took them back. One of these was my now exhusband. However, I never played the back-and-forth game like this. Once he cheated? He was out the door, no more discussion to be had! I do 100% however agree with everyone’s feelings about Sarah. That is it a snake in human skin. She is not to be crossed as she goes above and beyond to make sure you pay. Although it was kind of cold how she got dropped like a hot potato. No less than she deserved, however. I’m glad that Gabby got her chance to hang out with someone else. Even if he didn’t turn out to be Mr. Wright now? Hopefully he may be Mr. Wright. I’m also agreeing with others and saying I’m not 100% sure I want Lincoln and Gabby together. Not saying either of them are bad people, but they are absolutely toxic together. Hurt people hurt people. These two are wonderful in one way, but absolutely ill suited in another major way. You can’t use Physical things to fix everything. Speaking of the Physical things though! Oh my oh my the fire scenes in this book were definitely hot AF! I mean with Alexandria da Great this isn’t a surprise or news but she pulled out all the stops in this book. I am still fanning myself because it was a hot, hot hot.😮💨 again, not a shocker with this author. She does not hold back. I actually had a chance to fall more in love with Gabby and Linh too, though. Not only learning about their backstory, but their time with Moore, the cat, the seagulls and handsome, and this good things that Lincoln has done in his life. Not only the negative, but how he put Gabby and her dad first before himself without issue, and tell it all became an issue. That snake Sarah really got into his head, but he allowed it to happen so I feel the blame truly lies on his shoulders because he is the one that was married to Gabby not Sarah. All in all an exciting installment, I gobbled this book down so quick. I figured by time book 4 came out. I would be caught up, heck I’m gonna be more than caught up. I’m getting ready to start book 3, and I have a feeling I’ll be done with that one well before the weekend rolls around! Lol! With this massive cliffhanger that this book ended on, I am immediately going to jump into book 3, screw dinner who needs to eat? I listen to the audio book as well and of course it was the virtual voice. That kinda actually went along with the story in a weird way!
I didn't think this story could get me any more annoyed than book 1 but honestly.... Sarah and Lincoln are absolutely trifling. Sarah for more obvious reasons with her twisted evil self. Lincoln is on a whole different level. He complained about Gabby trying to find happiness with next man when they're not even married nor together anymore. He is always trying to control and gaslight her and seems to see women he is attracted to only as sex objects. I can't see any way he will improve as a person as the story continues to progress. He needs to undergo a complete 180 in character, and become humble and selfless to redeem himself. He lacks the self awareness to realise that the reason why Gabby doesn't feel that she can get back with him is because she doesn't trust him since he cheated on her and broke her heart, plus when she had suspicions about him and Sarah and confronted him, he gaslit her. He has not shown once that he can be trusted and he truly has not taken accountability for what he has done. He and Gabby have only had arguments about his infidelity but they have not sat down and had a serious and grown up conversation about what happened. Lincoln needs to open his ears and actively listen without getting defensive. Failing that I hope Gabby finally finds happiness, preferably without him, because she deserves it. At the moment any relationship she has with Lincoln is toxic and at the end of this book I can't see that changing. This story is very testing on your morals. It's a fantastic read, you really get to see the main characters up close and personal, flaws, warts and all. Alexandria da Great is one of the best romance authors of today. Her stories are so shocking, addictive and thought provoking, that even days after finishing you are still thinking about it and turning the events over in your head. That to me makes a story grade A+. Unfortunately it is also annoying when there is a cliffhanger involved. Anyway I cannot wait for book 3!!
The first thing that I want to take note of is the crap that went on in this book. It seems like Lincoln has to go through the things that he's going through with Gabby. Because apparently it's not clicking for him about what he took at his horse. I get it, but I really wish they'd stop holding back your feelings. There is no amount of alcohol that will make me be around somebody that I know. Don't like me that I know. Has hurt me a little hurt me that I know.Set out to destroy my marriage so that whole new year's eve thing first was nasty, eww, and unnecessary. I cannot understand how Lincoln is such a talented man in his field of study when it seems like he can't put 2 and 2 together by now. He doesn't pick Duff on what kind of person Sarah is. But he's not doing anything he's not saying anything. He's not putting no dishes. I don't care about a job. The lady is not nice. He asked like, he can't tell her, no, then when he tells her, no, she tells him what she's going to do, even in the laugh. She act like she'd a boss. But the book says she's his assistant. He makes more money than she does. But she tells him what she's going to do, what he's going to do.If I work with her, I would not like her at all. This book is the one too much.Sarah is doing too much. All we're doing is introducing new characters to make it more difficult. And convoluted for the main people. Gabby didn't know that man from jack down the street , how she go on the first date with him and do that, it wasnt right.I ain't even gonna talk about what happened with her in lincoln when she got back home, when she got back home. I am so rolling my eyes right now.....
The book wasn’t that great. Idk why it’s 498 pages long but the book feels redundant. At this point it wasn’t even angst but just down right rage baiting. I honestly do not understand what Gabby was thinking when she decided to move back with Lincoln. If self preservation was a job Gabby would be dirt poor. The relationship is straight up toxic and trying to romanticise domestic violence is a poor take. If I ever met a man like Lincoln I would rather jump off a cliff than deal with him. After the 40% the book became lack lustre. Also disappointed with how Gabby was basically graped under the influence by Sarah but it was just shoved aside. It was such a waste to introduce Tobias only to use him as a tool to get Lincoln mad and jealous it’s such double standards if you ask me. My first impression of this author from this book was low so I doubt I’d read further or any other books.
I was really hoping to see a change in Gabby and Lincoln but unfortunately this didn’t happen in book 2. Don’t get me wrong, I like them but they both need some serious therapy! Link is too weak for my liking. He just can’t be trusted, ex: the girl in the park had him thinking about dating her and more even though he just met here! And his attraction to Sarah is his weakness especially as long as they work together. He says Gabby is the only woman he lives but his weakness to pretty women doesn’t make him a reliable partner. No need to mention Sarah because at least we know who Sarah is but the repetitive dialogue between Link and Gabby is tiring and become filler after a while. AdaG is an awesome writer who knows how to tell a story full of emotions that you can’t get enough of but I need the next book to resolve their issues either together or apart m!
This book is just fuqing nasty. There is no self preservation for Gabby and Lincoln is just disgusting and I don’t see the appeal in him. The books way too long and repetitive and no way it’s nearing 500 pages long just for these two to going around in circles. I was getting excited because this book had cheating and I love cheating. But the way it’s written and how Gabby is just a dumb bitch. I read book one and was gobsmacked amazed loved the betrayal and tension but then onwards to book 2 it feels like Gabby pretends to strong but is a weak bitch who keeps downplaying Lincoln’s shitty excuses for outdated feelings she has of him. It’s been 2 years get with the program you dumb ass. If I had a death note I’d write Lincoln’s name in capitals on it.
The sex scene between Abby and Lincoln wasn’t even hotshit. It just screams pathetic.
Wow, just wow. After reading this series so far I absolutely hate the names Sarah and Lincoln and I hate the term Work Wife. Just grinds my gears. Any who I absolutely love this book, I'm proud of Gabby for standing her ground and I admire the growth we see from Lincoln, cause he can say sorry all he wants but actions are louder than words. F-bomb Sarah, everytime I see her POV I break out in an anger sweat. Alexandria is definitely great cause she elicits so many feels from me and keeps me hanging onto her EVERY word. She also introduced us to my new favorite character, I hope to see more of them but if not I understand. Overall I 110% recommend this book and author as a whole!
I am so caught up in the toxic drama of it all!!! Ends on a huge cliffy!!! Like HUGE! AHHH!! When is the next book, I neeeeeed it!!
The h and H are both so awful to each other, h understandably, H is still a toxic narcissist.
Cheating = H wants h back, but apparently, OW has a magic vag and a vacuum mouth as he just keeps falling into her.
h sees H with OW = h goes to work at same place as H and OW, fun times seeing the OW trying to claim H constantly
OW drama = EVIL E-V-I-L OW does some awful things: SA/R of h when she is too intoxicated to consent, undermining the h at the job, and the awful thing that happens with the cliffy!!!!
These books are like crack!!! I can't stop and when I get to the end I feel such a letdown and need my next hit.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Impressed with the 2nd installment. It is not fun when the rabbit holds the g*n...We question in the 1st book if Link is TRULY sorry or truly capable of feeling what he put Gabby through. Now we end with a cliffhanger one leaving this reader wonder WHAT NEXT!? On to book 3 😁
I need the next book now! This story has taken over my time off from work. I don’t know what I’m going to do while waiting for the third book. Probably going through the rest of Alexandria’s catalog.
I knew I should have waited to read this book! But who am I kidding. It’s Alexandria da Great, if you’ve read her books you already know when she drops a book there’s no resisting, especially when it’s a series!
