♾️ STARS!!! Straight into the all-time favorites tier.

Oh this book… I’ll never have the right words to explain how deeply it touched me, drove me insane, and left me begging for more. There’s something truly magical about Lola’s writing. I’m so thankful this book found me because it’s the perfect mix of everything I love, wrapped in the prettiest of writings with a spicy af cherry on top.

Intense, toxic, obsessive, messy, insane, beautiful, tragic, captivating, emotional, poetic, raw, angsty, unhinged, spicyyy… just some of the words I’d use to describe this book and why it had me in a complete chokehold from start to finish. I mean her two boyfriends (if only it were that easy) are ex-boyfriends and fallen angels that destiny brings together once again through Dakota. There’s so much hate, longing, and things left unsaid between them, but one thing they both agree on is how obsessed they are with our girl Dakota. I didn’t know I needed this type of dynamic in my life but it suddenly became my favorite thing because the tension and angst are just unmatched and we only scratched the surface with book 1.

Dakota. My troubled, sweet, brilliant, sad girl. Gosh, I love her so much, and to say I feel protective over her and everything she went through is an understatement. I related to her deeply in the way she feels everything, all the time, and it's f-ing overwhelming. Her trauma is suffocating her, and the only escape she finds is in the hands of our two anti-heroes.

Mason. He’s in your face like a punch to the gut. Careless, dangerous, obsessive, and beautifully destructive. Like a storm ruining everything in its path. But then we get small glimpses of how troubled he truly is, how deeply and uncontrollably he feels, and how devoted he is to Dakota. He gives her everything she needs before she even realizes she needs it, whether it’s pain, pleasure, or simply his presence. He carved a place in my heart and I’d expect nothing less from him.

Micah. Now that’s MY MAN! I may love all these characters equally, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a soft spot for Dr. Killshaw. He’s criminally underrated, and my protective instincts come out in full force when it comes to my favorite professor. At first he comes across as this mean mystery (which I love btw), but you quickly realize how layered he is. Unlike Mason and Dakota, he isn’t ruled by his emotions, and while he can seem cold and detached, to me that comes from his need to always stay in control as a defense mechanism. And in control he is...a dominant hot af professor who can get them (and me) on their knees with one word? Say no more, I’m a simp for him. He’s the balance Mason and Dakota need, but don’t get me wrong, there’s still so much darkness, possessiveness, and anger in him, it’s just restrained, and I cannot wait to see it blow up hehe.

Now that ending? At THAT moment? The gasp I gasped, that was just mean! In the most delicious way of course, wouldn’t expect anything else coming from Lola. She’s officially earned the right to torture me however she wants and I’ll say please and thank you lol. To say I’m excited for the next book would be a massive understatement!

THIS EDITION IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!!! LOLA'S AREWORK IS BEAUTIFUL AND PRETTY NICE TO LOOK AT ;)

It's been three months since I read this and I am still obsessed!

Original review:

I hold dark romance to a very high standard, and it’s because of books like Drown Like Heaven by Lola Fairchild. This story is deliciously messy, beautifully toxic, and packed with raw, aching emotion. The slight touch of fantasy threaded through the chaos gave it such a unique twist that made the whole experience even more addictive. If you’re a dark romance lover, this is an absolute must read. Dare I say, it may even end up being my top read for the year

The characters aren’t perfect (in fact, they’re a full-speed-ahead train wreck) but I couldn’t look away for a second. Their flaws, their choices, their spirals… it all made the story hit even harder.

I read this on my Kindle, but if I’d had a physical copy, I would’ve burned through multiple highlighters. Every other line felt highlight-worthy.

Lola, absolutely no pressure… but I need to know what happens next. Like yesterday.

Would've been amazing had it been MFM but author unfortunately completely ruined it by making it MMF.
