Someone else's wedding
What is an ideal wedding? Rent a beautiful villa in Barcelona, fit a designer dress, make-up and hairstyle from a stylist, gather all your friends. Oops! There's a little problem with that. More precisely, no one flying on the London-Barcelona flight expected that the weather conditions would interrupt their flight, and not just anywhere, but over Paris.
Yes, not in decent Charles de Gaulle, but in shabby Orly (for the life of me, I don't see the difference, but I haven't flown to Paris with arrival at any of these airports - probably there is). The airline offers to compensate for the inconvenience with train tickets, but it takes longer to get to the station and then drive, and no one canceled the hope that the weather would clear up in an hour and a half. However, the phrase "Your flight is delayed" will accompany them throughout the night.
We were stuck at Orly Airport 19 hours before check-in.: Gemma is the bride's best friend, who should be a witness at the wedding; Leon is the older brother who should lead his sister down the aisle; Francesca is a colleague in love with the groom, whom he jokingly calls an "office wife" and invited to the wedding for some reason. Gemma and Leon are expected to know each other, Gemma and Francesca are close, none of them have tender feelings for each other, and under normal circumstances nothing would make a team out of them. But in this situation, you have to stick together.
And you wouldn't be surprised if I said that Francesca's goal is to disrupt the wedding. Deep down, she's convinced that Marcus loves her, not Kaylee. And if you talk openly about your feelings, if you open his eyes to his own, which he hides from himself, then he will not make this irreparable mistake. Yes, yes, love is evil, we remember. But the discovery that a brother and girlfriend have the same goal seems unthinkable at first glance, and yet each of the two has their own reasons for wishing that the celebration would not take place. Well, or it turned out to be hopelessly spoiled.
To tell you in detail would be to spoil your enjoyment of the Beth Rickles story, and it's worth figuring out the intricacies of the plot on your own. A funny, touching, sad, funny book in which (in a whisper) no wedding will be disrupted. Although this does not mean that some people did not try.

Что такое идеальная свадьба? Арендовать красивую виллу в Барселоне, подогнать по фигуре дизайнерское платье, макияж и прическа от стилиста, собрать всех друзей. Упс! Вот с этим небольшая проблема. Точнее - большая, никто из летящих рейсом Лондон-Барселона не предполагал, что погодные условия прервут их полет, да не где-нибудь, а над Парижем.
Да не в приличном Шарль-де-Голле, а в затрапезном Орли (убей, не вижу разницы, но я ведь и в Париж не летала с прибытием ни в одном из этих аэропортов - наверно есть). Авиакомпания предлагает компенсировать неудобства билетами на поезд, но добираться до вокзала, а потом ехать - всяко дольше, и никто не отменял надежды, что через час-полтора распогодится. Однако фраза: "Ваш вылет задерживается" - будет сопровождать их на протяжении всей ночи.
За 19 часов до регистрации в аэропорту Орли застряли: Джемма - лучшая подруга невесты, которая на свадьбе должна быть свидетельницей; Леон - старший брат, который должен вести сестру к алтарю; Франческа - влюбленная в жениха коллега, которую, шутя, называет "офисной женой" и непонятно зачем пригласил на свадьбу. Джемма и Леон ожидаемо знакомы между собой, Джемма с Франческой шапочно, нежных чувств друг к другу никто из них не питает и в обычных обстоятельствах ничто не сделало бы из них команду. Но в этой ситуации поневоле приходится держаться вместе.
И вы ведь не удивитесь, если я скажу, что цель Франчески - сорвать свадьбу. В глубине души она убеждена, что Маркус любит ее, а не Кейли. И если откровенно сказать о своих чувствах, если открыть ему глаза на его собственные, которые прячет от себя, то он не сделает этой непоправимой ошибки. Да-да, любовь зла, мы помним. Но открытие, что у брата и подружки та же цель, на первый взгляд кажется немыслимым, и однако у каждого из двоих свои резоны желать, чтобы торжество не состоялось. Ну или оказалось безнадежно испорченным.
Рассказать подробно значило бы испортить вам удовольствие от истории Бэт Риклз, а она стоит того, чтобы разобраться в хитросплетениях сюжета самостоятельно. Забавная, трогательная, грустная, веселая книга, в которой (шепотом) ни одна свадьба не будет сорвана. Хотя это не значит, что кое-кто не старался.
