A compulsive read - a gripping, emotional and beautifully researched story that reveals the lasting impact of war across generations. Fiona delivers powerful characters, unexpected twists, and a deeply moving tribute to resilience. A must-read from an exciting new author.
I’ve just finished Far-Reaching Shadows by Fiona Rich and I loved it. It’s one of those books that pulls you in and before you know it, you’re completely invested. What really stood out to me was how much it helped me understand more about Auschwitz and the lives of the people who lived through that time. You get a deeper sense of what daily life must have been like, the fear, the resilience, the relationships and the strength people had to find just to survive. It definitely stays with you after you’ve finished it.
I’d absolutely recommend it if you like meaningful stories that also teach you something important about history and humanity.
Far-reaching Shadows is a beautiful story that weaves together the lives of Helleh, Rosie and Penny. From the horrific depths of Auschwitz-Birkenua, you feel the power of the universal langue of music. Memories are stirred, tragedies are uncovered and heart strings are pulled. The story unfolds bringing their lives together in an unforgettable way. I was unfamiliar with the impact music had during this time period. I learned so much while being drawn into the lives of the characters. I didn’t want the story to end.
This is a powerful and intriguing book, that covered a very dark period of history. I was eager to find out what happened to the characters and I felt invested in their stories. The plot was well developed and there were some unexpected twists, which kept the story interesting and well paced. The author created a wonderful story, that explored difficult topics sensitivity. I really enjoyed reading this book, and would recommend it!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Although a heartbreaking story I couldn't put the book down. The characters are sensitively presented and explored so you really feel you know them. A terrible time in our world history presented so that the reader could feel the raw emotion and horror people living in that time felt. Highly recommend this book and wish all the very best to Fiona with her future writing
A beautifully written book. Following different characters at different stages of their lives and how they all interacted with each other. Very sensitive and well written drawing you in to their different lives. Hard to put down at the end of a chapter. Can’t wait for her next book.
