This is more about Fall and pumpkins and Autumn, but not so much about Halloween.
I need to do my research better. I got this thinking it was by Paulette Bourgeois and it’s actually based on one of the TV episodes. It’s hard to know, but Paulette’s name wasn’t on the cover. I like stories by the originating author and once it’s by others and it’s just about money, then I don’t care to read it.
Still, this was a sweet and cute little story. Franklin has a big pumpkin growing and he wants to enter it at the Fall Fair, but for some reason they aren’t having a Pumpkin contest, this year is a big squash contest. How silly. Franklin doesn’t go. His sister does and she wants to win best Princess, but all the girls are dressed up as a Princess and no one notices her. She comes home crying. Franklin craves out his pumpkin and turns it into a chariot for her. It’s wonderful. I love that kind of stuff.
The nephew thought this was ok. When he likes Franklin and when he doesn’t depends on his mood. He thought Franklin was smart to think of something to do for his sister and it looked cool he thought. He said it was a little long, but it was an ok story and he gave it 3 stars.
This story is based on the television character Franklin. This particular story is about a large pumpkin growing in his yard. There is a Fall Fair in town and all his friends are submitting things and hope to win a blue ribbon. Franklin is not sure what he can do with the pumpkin until his sister comes home crying. He helps make his sisters day better and in the end wins a blue ribbon in his own unique way.
(This is a Level 2 Reader so not as complex or long as most of the Franklin books.) In this book Franklin and his friends are all getting ready for the Fall Fair and all want to win a blue ribbon. Franklin finds that he's growing a pumpkin and decides to take care of it daily to get it the biggest. But in the end he does a wonderful thing with it for his sister Harriett, a wonderful lesson for children on how to care for each other.
The ending of this book did not turn out at all how I thought it would, and it was a pleasant surprise. Franklin put his pumpkin to good use for the Fall Fair!
