This is the first book in a new series, and my word what a start Silas and Betsy Mae’s story it.
Betsy Mae is in town and staying with her nana, who with her friends is dabbling in a touch of matchmaking, as one of them gets her a job in a boutique. One her first day Betsy Mae realises that the man she flipped off in traffic, is Silas, her boss, who is determined to keep his late mom’s boutique going.
This is a well written story which has family, friendships, emotions, reverse grumpy / sunshine, matchmaking, opposites attract, hilarious shenanigans, workplace romance, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Sunshine and the storm cloud
I loved, loved this reverse grump-sunshine, opposites attract, workplace, fish out of water romance. The story had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, and spice as seen through the eyes of two very intense, strong and passionate characters. Get ready for the fireworks. It just made me happy to read about these two characters dealing with the messy parts of life with all their relatable insecurities. I was feeling all the big feels as they worked through their stuff. Betsy is a surly, goth clothing wearing, multi pierced storm cloud. She drives across the country to live with her grandmother after getting kicked out of her apartment by her cheating boyfriend. Upon arrival, she is handed a job at Silas’ clothing boutique. Silas is a polo wearing southern gentleman with a default setting of happy who lives in the small town of Heaven. He owns the coffee shop in town and the women’s clothing boutique started by his late mother. He’s terrible at selling women’s clothes but determined to make it work. He hopes his new hire will be the answer to his problems but perhaps he was overly optimistic. Betsy’s first impression was not very ladylike and borrowed heels and clumsiness make for an unforgettable second impression. As a meet cute for this couple it was comedic and romantic perfection. Betsy is simply the chaos to Silas’ calm. Despite the early and surprising attraction it is a bit of a journey to get to their HEA. It comes complete with a whole lot of baggage unpacking and character growth sprinkled liberally with snort worthy laughs and swoon worthy moments. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit uncomfortable in their skin because they don’t feel like they fit in or are worthy, like Betsy and Silas. So I love when they finally see their truth and they get swoon worthy HEAs. I loved Silas and Betsy’s relationship and the way they fit so well together and embraced their differences. I am excited to read more stories in this series and spend more time in this southern town full of quirky and interesting side characters.

Normally storm clouds come rolling in but not this one as it comes crashing in!
Betsy is not your typical Southern Lady instead she prefers dressing in black with many piercings - whilst flipping people off! Where as Silas prefers to look like a frat boy in polo shirts & khakis and has the manners of a Southern gentleman.
After deciding to leave Hell in Auburn Hill, Betsy arrives in Heaven to look after her Nana. Betsy Mae gradually let's her barriers down. For once she allows herself to make friends which she never realised she was missing. She then decides she wants her boss Silas with no strings benefits.
Can Angels & Devils truly exist together??

I'm almost positive this is and will be for a while, my fab book by this author. Although I have liked or loved almost all of this authors books, she is currently one of the few authors that I read arc's for. This book resonated so much with me. This author writes books that although very humourous, they gave facets that are very true to human life. I've been able to learn things about myself by reading and looking back at her books, especially this one
This book is definitely one I recommend, and I especially like that a lot of her series are interconnected standalones, so you still understand what's going on if you miss a book or two or a series.

This is a perfect story to brighten your day. The characters are fantastic with a story that keeps you turning pages and wanting more. You find yourself belly laughing and falling more in love with the small town Just don’t drink while reading…just in case you snort. This is a one click read you don’t want to miss.

Betsy and Silas. Opposites attracts grumpy sunshine romance. I think I was smiling or laughing throughout the whole book. Loved Betsy’s fiery personality. The town of Heaven with all the lovely welcoming people really made the story. I can’t wait to see whose is next and get more glimpses of the towns folk. Perfect ending.

Get ready for some good ole fashioned Southern charm with this adorably sweet and hilarious rom-com from Markia Ray!
Heavens to Betsy is the first of what I hope is many books that takes place in Heaven, Mississippi- this sweet small town that is filled with the kind of adorably quirky characters I love from Marika. And in this story we get this fabulous opposites attract and reverse grumpy sunshine romance between Betsy- the quintessential black cat from the West coast as she relocates to her grandmother's home for a fresh start and Silas- who almost has to be the ultimate southern gentleman.
Everything about this book was so fun to read. It's light without being bland, it's silly and has character without being too over the top and I simply fell for all of the characters, well with an exception or two- but they kind of deserve it😉 I almost forget that there is a little bit of an age gap between Silas and Betsy because their chemistry was so spot on. Their banter and Betsy's eternal habit of flipping Silas off just added to the flirty tensions as these two work together despite the several bad first impressions between them.
And while I adored Betsy and all her snarky charm- the way her character blossomed as she allowed herself the opportunity to lower her walls and put her heart out on the line thanks to Silas and his smooth southern sweetness. But it wasn't only Betsy that bloomed but Silas did in a way too- Betsy gave him this other type of confidence that wasn't there before that helped him stand up for himself in a way that he hadn't before. These two kind of melded together like a perfect yin and yang.
That's even before Silas dropped the wooing Southern gentleman part of his persona and brought out the bossy dirty talker 🥵 Betsy may have thought she could handle a no strings fling with Silas- but the way that he flipped that switch she should have known that there was gonna be no escaping the lusty pull when that man can treat her like a princess and then make you wonder if he'd kiss his grandma with that mouth.
I sure hope this isn't the last time Marika takes us to Heaven- I'm having too much fun there!

The book is… fine. The concept itself is actually pretty appealing—a goth female main character paired with a perpetually smiling male lead has a lot of potential. However, the story leans heavily into Southern culture, and as someone who isn’t American, I couldn’t tell how accurate it was supposed to be. At times, it gave me The Stepford Wives kind of vibe—like a polished but shallow, almost artificial community.
The story follows Betsy Mae, who moves to Heaven after being dumped by her ex. She’s always struggled financially and socially, so this move is meant to be a fresh start. She goes to live with her Nana, who plans to leave her the house. Through her Nana’s connections, Betsy Mae lands a job working for Silas—ironically, right after she accidentally flips him off and nearly hits him with her car.
Despite that rough first impression, Silas is drawn to her. He recognizes her talent and believes she can help his boutique thrive, so he keeps things friendly. Over time, his interest becomes more genuine—he grows fond of her and even appreciates her goth personality. Betsy Mae, on the other hand, is only interested in a friends-with-benefits arrangement.
One thing that didn’t sit well with me is how Betsy Mae’s new “friends” try to change her. They push her toward becoming more of a traditional Southern belle, which feels forced and insincere. Instead of embracing who she is, it comes across like they’re trying to reshape her to fit their expectations.
Overall, while the premise is interesting, the execution didn’t fully work for me.

Silas is a true southern gentleman. He exudes charm, kindness, and chivalry. Betsy recently moved to Heaven, Mississippi from Auburn Hill, CA (aka Hell) to be with her Nana and get back on her feet after a breakup. She is a little goth, has piercings, is bold, vocal, and a bit cranky. Together, these two make for a fun story as they learn to work together, become friends, and then add a no strings relationship that quickly has both of them tied in knots.
I laughed and giggled out loud through this whole story. Silas needed someone to believe in him and his dreams. Betsy becomes the unlikely candidate who fights for him. Her evolution as she embraces friendships in the small town and her feminine side is remarkable. She comes into herself without abandoning herself to fit in. She grows emotionally and lets down justifiable walls around her heart. I loved her character. Her Nana was a special secondary character who showed her love and support while nudging her along. Her new friends tease and support her along the way.
This was a fun romance with laughs, hot times, and a boat load of southern charm and dialect. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

She dresses in black, he dresses like a frat boy. Their pairing seems impossible but getting to know them and watch them grow together was so fun. Betsy is so forward to Silas' near stoicism when it comes to his feelings and his past hurts. I love that Betsy's personality didn't drown him and allowed him to come out of his shell and be himself (and his surprising spicy side). Betsy sure knows how to make an entrance into town, her new life, and her new job. She’s so far out of her comfort zone there’s no known zip code, but she’s got to make this new life in Heaven work for herself and her beloved grandmother. Silas is her first victim, who then becomes her boss, her hookup, and over time – her lover in every sense. I adore him, he’s almost too perfect but not quite over the edge. He runs his late mom’s boutique because it meant so much to her, but he knows he’s not dialed in and things are getting desperate. Betsy is really out of her comfort zone there in the South, but she’s good at marketing so he realizes quickly that he needs her. More, he sees her, and that is what makes him utterly irresistible. Underneath her grumpiness and black clothes lurks someone who wants to find her place, and Silas is determined to give that to her. Their adventures are pretty hilarious at times, and her unwitting adoption by the town and her friend group is fantastic – she is just enveloped. The balance the two find is what everyone dreams of, and it’s achieved in that uniquely Marika way. I think this is her best release in a while, and I’m really looking forward to this series.

This story was so much fun to read, it was a slow burn, "stop looking at me" kind of story that ended nice & spicy!
The secondary characters in the book are every bit as amazing as the mains & I can't wait to see where the stories go from here!

Finding her people
This beautifully sweet story was a mixture of laugh out loud moments, some heartbreaking moments plus tender and steamy moments.
Fun, serious and loving times throughout the storyline kept me happily reading along to the end.
Upon meeting his new employee Silas was shocked with the strange woman whose first appearance in his boutique ended in disaster.
Betsy’s day could not get any better - her first impression at work was mortifying plus then realising that her new boss was the person she flipped off in her car the day before.
From that day on their interactions were rocky with plenty of banter and angst, but as time passed their feelings morphed into so much more.
Will the town of Heaven open their hearts to this unusual woman that has invaded their lives?
Can these two polar opposites fall for each other and find their happy ending together?
Such a great start to a series with wonderful characters and a great storyline.

I picked up HEAVENS TO BETSY thinking I'd get a lighthearted romcom with a few chuckles and a swoon or two. What I didn't expect was to snort laugh so hard I scared my cat and nearly baptized my Kindle with coffee!
Silas Winthrop is the nicest man alive - a golden retriever in khakis and polo shirts. He's polite, charming and way too happy for his own good. Betsy, on the other hand, is a grumpy city girl who flips him off in traffic before realizing he's her new boss (I love her)! Their chemistry is hilarious and sweet.
Betsy's sarcasm meets Silas's endless optimism, and somehow it works. The small town setting of Heaven, Mississippi, is full of nosy neighbors and funny side characters who make everything even more entertaining.

She left the town of Hell (aka Auburn Hill) and has just arrived in Heaven to help her Nana. She hasn't even settled in yet when she finds out she starts a new job in the morning.
Silas lost his mom to cancer about a year ago, and he has taken over running her boutique, Harp and Hemline. He takes pride in keeping the boutique open and catering to the middle-aged women in town. Marika Ray has delivered a wonderful read with her latest book in Heavens to Betsy, the first book in her new Southern Charm series. Everything about this book was just top notch, the characters, their story line, the small town southern city, and the writing to bring it all together. Betsy Mae arrives to Heaven, MS to live with her grandmother wearing all black in the high heat of summer in the south. And Silas is a man trying to keep his late mother's clothing boutique dream alive. At first these two seem like they are going to keep butting heads but then something happens they both take a turn to like what the other is delivering. I loved reading and watching these two come to terms with what they really want from a significant other all while dealing the southern charm, the southern humidity, and friends and family that like to only slightly intervene. I can't wait for more from this series and this author.

At first glance he isn’t sure that Betsy is the solution however he can’t deny that she might just be what the shop and he needs.
Betsy and Silas bring out the best in each other and even though they are very different they find the perfect balance in each other. The interactions between them are humorous, the heat between them intense and the great cast of secondary characters only make this story more enjoyable.

This is the funniest book I've ever read by Marika Ray. I've been a fan for years, but this is the first time I've laughed out loud, tittered and giggled throughout the entire book.
Betsy has arrived at her grandmother's house, broke and homeless. She's a California goth girl and she's arrived in Heaven, Mississippi in a car with faulty brakes and little else. Her grandmother's friend has landed Betsy a job at a boutique in town. Not the best match - they sell ruffles and pastels, she's at home in black jeans and tank tops.
Her boss is pure south and he's running the boutique that was his mother's before her death. They should not be a match made in Heaven, but somehow they are. But not until she makes friends and finds out what she really wants in life.
This is a great, sexy book that I really enjoyed.

Full of charm and small town love, Heavens to Betsy was a joy to read!
Silas and Betsy Mae were so much fun. I absolutely loved their reverse grumpy/sunshine dynamic. Their banter was brilliant and funny, the chemistry was hot and their nicknames - frat boy and storm cloud - were perfect for each other.
Betsy's character evolved and grew, and while her edges softened I was so happy that her grumpy didn't completely disappear. Silas is the swooniest Southern gentleman and I loved seeing him charm the frown off Betsy's face.
I adored seeing them quietly support eachother to overcome the challenges and heal their scars.
Heaven, Mississippi is the most adorable small town; the world building is just brilliant. The town is quirky and so are some of the residents, the friends are supportive and it oozes Southern hospitality.

This book is hilarious! Betsy Mae (or B as she thinks of herself) is from California and this girl is like a fish out of water in the South. She lands in Heaven, with her Nana, and somehow, her all black/Goth-like style just doesn’t seem to fit. But trust me, eventually, fit she does.
Nana and her friends, what I like to call the Southern Geriatric mafia, try to ease Betsy Mae into the Southern way of life. One friend, Birdie, even gets her a job working for Silas Grey. Talk about a sweetheart; a true Southern gentleman. Well, maybe except for in back rooms…but you’ll have to read this book to understand. Absolutely adorable story! Sweet and heartbreaking (at times) and heart-mending. And funny. I loved these two – double first names and all!

Betsy is clumsy, grumpy and has a beautiful heart - she takes care of her aunt. She’s had some recent trauma and is trying to start new…but definitely opposed to finding romance….so she says.
Silas is hilarious and has met his match. Betsy is his new employee so he has to keep his feelings about her to himself. She pushes his buttons and he pushes right back. The banter between these two is fantastic.
They let their guards down and let the feelings come in and it leads to some off the charts chemistry and shenanigans.
Love their nicknames for each other - Frat Boy and Storm Cloud.

This is a sugary sweet southern romance with a hint of edgy from a Cali girl.
Betsy is in Heaven and trying to find her place. Silas is struggling to keep the boutique his momma ran up and running in her honor.
Opposites really do attract. And it was lots of laughs and awww along the way. Silas is a true southern gentleman and Betsy is a tough nut to crack. But his personality wears down her walls and it’s a great time.
Also all the side characters just add so much to the story. I especially have a soft spot for Mr. Barnett. It’s a great story and a sweet time with the characters.

This looks like it is going to be another must read series for me because this book won my heart with ease. Southern charm, humor, sassiness, heart, emotions, drama, rich feelings, spiciness and a little drizzle of poignancy flow like silk as Betsy Mae and Silas's romance blossoms. The chemistry zings, the banter is witty as these two create moment after moment that has you smiling big and laughing out loud or having your heart aching with the sweetest ache or pretty much just falling head over heels from the get-go. Sometimes opposites attract and some couples are just meant to be and when it is a perfect combination of both you can absolutely find it in Heaven.

This is book 1 in Ray's new Southern Charm series, and I am here for it! Ray delights in this well written and wonderfully balanced romcom. Full of fun with the best of sweet romance, steamy chemistry and all the laughs! Our main characters are Betsy and Silas. Ray introduces us to the small town of Heaven, MS and being raised in the south, this town feels like home! Betsy is the grump that balances out Silas' happy. Light and fun but captivatingly addictive. I loved every minute of this read and I can't wait for more southern charm in this lil town of Heaven!

Cute, Fun, Spicy, & Silly
This book has a little bit of a lot of things in it and it’s just fun. Set in a small college town in Mississippi she moves from California to help her grandmother.
Shes handed a job at a small boutique in town and makes a FABULOUS first impression on the man running the shop lol

Betsy has moved from hell to heaven, and although it’s a bumpy start, she really comes into her own. Silas is a southern gentleman, who meets his match when Betsy starts working at his boutique.
I really enjoyed the push and pull with these 2, as always it was written perfectly.
