Imperfectly perfect.



Imperfectly is the fourth part of the All the Rewards series, where Stiles and Derek decide to take another step in their relationship. Their first time together is perfect in its imperfection: real, awkward, sweet, and affectionate.

Derek’s reassurance of Stiles made my heart melt. Loved that part!

"You’re here, in my home, in my bed, because I want you here. I want you here. Not some other guy with steel abs or whatever your brain is trying to tell you that you should have if you want to sleep with me. Can you at least try to accept that?”
“I don’t get it,” Stiles admits, “but I guess we all have our little quirks.”

Man, I love KouriArashi’s writing. She is able to apply a sense of reality and relatability into even the most simplistic of story ideas. Things always seem to turn out well (thank-god, because I get grumpy without a HEA), but there’s always a feeling of awkwardness and discomfort in the telling of her stories, that gives them a weighty quality worthy of a professional author (hell, she’s even better than half the professional authors I read).

The 4th part of this series follows Stiles and Derek in their eager discovery of penetrative sex. I really liked the way this storyline was handled. Both Derek and Stiles are “butt-virgins” and they decide the best way to go about taking this big step in their relationship is to observe some “quality porn” to guide them in their sexual discovery. Once they get a few helpful porn pointers (try saying that 5 times fast) and decide on the best way to proceed, they attempt to have sex. Things don’t go smoothly. There is awkwardness, pain, shame, embarrassment, as well as soothing and caring reassurances. I really liked this turn of events. It made things realistic. In real life, things rarely go according to plan; including sex. Don’t get depressed though, they find their stride and the sexy times are had in abundance.

Awkward and stilted first time sex. This installment is little more than a PWP - oddly enough this isn't the sexiest PWP that could have been put forth, but maybe somewhat accurate for a first time venture.

Clever solution to the issue of Stiles being a bit young and too uncomfortable with penetration. The question that I was left with? Is that the norm then? Or will Derek try to top Stiles again, sometimes in the next months of sexual activity? Curious minds want to know.

It is just like Stiles to do intensive research on the topic and come prepared with various solutions. And Derek was so sweet to compliment and reassure Stiles... really liked that. Seemed very real.

I liked how Derek is funnier in this version. And it doesn't seem like a trait of his personality, more like a response to being around Stiles. The teenager just brings the best out and Derek can't help being more open, more cheerful, more talkative.

It's too short to make me fall head over heels but still nice enough!
