Lost in the Lyon's Garden: The Lyon's Den Connected World

Was it too late for love, now that she had found it?

Lord Benjamin Thompson and Miss Victoria Whitchurch met quite accidentally under an umbrella on a rainy day in London. They collided as they darted around the corner of a building, but neither realized the ramifications of their meeting. Miss Whitchurch was in London to locate her missing sister, a fallen woman who had cost the Whitchurch family everything. Lord Thompson was concentrating on his family’s lack of clues as to who shot his father. Neither understood how fate had just changed both their lives forever.

After a near fatal encounter outside the infamous Lyon’s Den gaming hell, Thompson could not shake the idea that his family of trained agents for the British government had overlooked something important. There had to be more clues to discover, and, unlike his brothers, men of action, Thompson was a man of reason. Of analysis. Of humanity. He knew them all well, and they had never failed him previously, but when additional encounters with Miss Whitchurch proved the woman was in danger, he turned his sense of reason on ways to protect the lady. Little did Thompson know, their lives had overlapped more than he expected.

Seamstress and former music teacher, Miss Victoria Whitchurch is on a mission to find her sister after Cassandra left her illegitimate son in the room the sisters had once shared, walking away from her responsibilities in typical Cassandra fashion. Yet, London is so large, and Victoria has never known city life beyond Bath. She means to protect the infant boy entrusted to her care.

The tall, sexy English lord may be clueless about her feelings for him, but Victoria knows he is the only one who can keep her and the child safe. As a vengeful killer targets both Thompson’s family and hers, desire and something more draws Victoria and Benjamin closer. Together, can they discover justice for the child and safeguard their newly created family?

Lost in the Lyon’s Garden by Regina Jeffries is another story in the saga of Lord Malcolm Duncan’s adopted sons. Except for the rather cumbersome recap of the previous book, which should have been seriously edited, this was a decent book. The focus is Lord Benjamin, who had attended medical school in Edinburgh before joining the others in working for the Crown. Lyon’s Den enters the story as Lord Malcolm is shot outside the famed gambling den. While some of the brothers chased the perpetrator, Benjamin focused on keep Lord Malcolm alive until the doctor could arrive. He was successful, although Malcolm’s recovery was slow. Meanwhile the brothers searched for clues. At about that time, Benjamin met a lovely young woman when he offered to share his umbrella during a downpour. He was immediately smitten, but both moved on to the rest of their lives. Until they met again. In the garden at the Lyon’s Den.

This is a good story, imbued with multiple story lines for both Benjamin and Victoria. Victoria’s sister had believed the lies of a local lord and ended up with child, and then, ostensibly looking for work, she left the baby with Victoria. Benjamin was always available to help. He was a good character, less ostentatious than some of his brothers. It was obvious to Lord Malcolm and his brothers how he felt for Victoria long before he figured it out. Plenty of action. Plenty of comings and goings; endings to other stories. Victoria found a place in society with her marriage to Benjamin and everyone rejoiced. It was a good story, if a little muddy in parts.

Lord Benjamin Thompson is on a mission to find and bring to justice the man responsible for almost killing Duncan, his mentor and head of their spy ring. Unlike his brothers, Thompson is logical, thoughtful, scientific in his analysis. He knows they’re missing something. While darting around London on a rainy day, he almost runs over Miss Victoria Whitchurch. They meet under an umbrella, and their lives are forever changed. With each encounter, he discovers Victoria is a lady in trouble. She’s searching all over London for her sister but to no avail. She is caring for her sister’s young son, whom her sister abandoned. As his feelings grow for Victoria, so does the danger. A ruthless killer stalks both himself and Victoria. Can Thompson succumb to love while hunting down the killer or will he lose everything he cares for?

Lost in the Lyon’s Garden is a riveting historical romantic suspense I couldn’t put down. This is book four in Regina Jeffers’ series in the connected world of Lyon’s Den, and it is worth reading. The stakes are high as the story unfolds. The descriptive narration is gripping and pulls the reader into the story. Readers who enjoy multiple side plots will love this book. The romance is sweet while the suspense becomes the main thrust of the story. The more I read, the faster my heart raced.

The characters, especially Benjamin and Victoria, are reason enough to read Lost in the Lyon’s Garden. Regina Jeffers is an expert when it comes to character development. She takes two people who are desperate for the truth and adds romance to the mix. I connected with both Bejamin and Victoria. While at first, they might seem opposites, together they bring out the best in each other. I stayed up late reading Lost in the Lyon’s Garden. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

This was a patient and gentle story between Benjamin and Victoria. I enjoyed how they were both thoughtful people with a strong sense of religion and faith, which is pleasantly different from the common hist-rom tropes right now. The book was meticulously researched, and I thought little details like the way the lamp worked was nicely woven into the story, to give us some historical tidbits without overwhelming the story. I enjoy the friends-to-lovers connection, and I always adore found family. Both of the MC's slowly developing a relationship with an unexpected baby (that didn't belong to either of them) was charming and I enjoyed every minute of it.

That said.... there were a LOT of side quests here. I usually read by dipping in and out of series, depending on my mood and the tropes, and I don't mind filling in the blanks or getting bits of characters from other books. But here we had pages of description of Benjamin's adopted brothers, two other side romances, politics, other family members, and... a lot. Benjamin and Victoria were not on page together until after 10% in, then Benjamin goes back to focusing on his many other side quests. The story that I expected from the blurb did not start until a full third of the way into the book, and then still we had a lot of other things going on.

This was smoothly written, with the sort of elegant style of traditional Regencies. The world-building was vivid, and I enjoyed the main characters. I do prefer a more focused plot with a little more togetherness from the love interests, though.

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

I wouldn't call this a Lyon's Den novel, it's more Lyon's Den adjacent. I mostly say this because the scenes that do take place in and around the Lyon's Den could have done so in just about any other place in the city. And there was zero matchmaking by Mrs. Dove-Lyon. As a story just by itself it was also just okay. It felt like it suffered a little from an identity problem - it just did not know what type of story it was trying to tell. It is part of a larger story that has other stories that have already been published (which sometimes made it difficult to keep track of who was who and what exactly was happening in their storylines), then it's a romance, then it's a separate mystery involving Victoria's sister. I also felt like there was a lot of male judgment toward Cassandra even though it's clear in her letter to Victoria that she loves the baby. I wish there had been some sort of reunion between Victoria and her father - and her mother is all of sudden turned into this terrible person with very little build-up. I am assuming Cassandra's murder is all part of the larger mystery but it was disappointing that it kind of went nowhere in this story. The other murder that takes place in this story also went nowhere and did not really make sense in the grand scheme - why would this killer decide to murder someone Victoria barely knew and who had nothing to do with anything else going on? I may read the final book in this series just to see if all the loose ends are tied up.

Lost in the Lyon's Garden is the next book in The Lyon's Den Connected World

Victoria Whitchurch is in London looking for her wayward sister after she was ruined by the spoiled and ill-mannered son of Lord Harold Betts. As she searches, she is directed to The Lyon's Den where Casandra might have taken a position but literally runs into Benjamin Thompson one of Duncan's adopted sons. Benjamin is there searching for clues as to who shot his "father" but finds Victoria instead. He will take her under his wing when he discovers her exhausted caring for her sister's child.

The two mysteries while not tied together as far as we know are woven into a friends to romance story. It is a slow-paced story with lots of side stories due to the many characters in the family. While Victoria's is ultimately solved, we think, Benjamins search for who shot Duncan is not and will likely be in the next book.

I enjoyed the characters very much. But I found that there wasn't enough of Mrs. Dove-Lyon in the story for my liking. She is one of my favorite characters in the Lyon's Den. Despite there being many characters, and a lot of ground to cover, making Mrs. Dove-Lyon more prominent is essential to the series. She doesn't have to be a MC, but less of a side note is preferable.

Another of Lord Duncan’s sons has his HEA. This series within a series is different , whilst Bessie does appear she’s very much a minor character. This book takes place in the same time frame as the previous books so events do overlap but the author very cleverly doesn’t give any spoilers. I really liked both Benjamin & Victoria & enjoyed their slow burn romance. Both have vicar fathers so have strong beliefs, he’s so protective not only of Victoria but of all his dependents. She’s intelligent & is very family orientated. A gentle romance with danger & intrigue.

This is book #4 in a series by Regina Jeffers within the Lyon’s Den Connected World series. I highly recommend reading this series in book order. The main mystery of who shoots Lord Duncan starts in book #1 and continues with hints of who did it in each of the following books.

Lord Benjamin Thompson and Miss Victoria Whitechurch meet by accident when they run into each other on a London street. As their lives start connecting, Benjamin finds himself becoming protective of Victoria and her nephew that was left in her care. Will Benjamin be able to keep Victoria and the baby safe so they can start a life together?

I absolutely loved Benjamin, Victoria and baby Ethan!! Their story was truly charming, very sweet and downright delightful!! I loved how Benjamin and Victoria slowly formed a friendship then started developing feeling for other!! The book is well written and I enjoyed how the book focused on the events from previous books but this time from Benjamin’s point of view.

As with the previous books the book does not cliff hang the romance between the two main characters, but the main mystery of who shot Lord Duncan is still not resolved. I feel that we are getting closer to finding out who is behind the shooting with only one book left in the series. I truly love this series and look forward to the next book in it!! I highly recommend this book!!

This book didn't really feel like others within the Lyon's Den collection. This particular series contains a mystery that continues to drag on through an entire family of "sons." This novel seemed extremely repetitive as so many details from the previous stories were given a lot of time. The main couple spent more time apart than together. Their romance and connection was boring at times because neither admitted or hinted to their feelings until near the end of the book. I liked Benjamin and felt empathy for him, but his nature proved boring for a hero at times. The mystery overtook the romance, and while I like to get a reminder of previous facts, this book contained more of them than the original story. Maybe I would feel different if the books weren't part of the Lyon's Den series and what is usually expected with those stories.

I received a copy of this book from Net Galley and am voluntarily leaving this review.

This book should be titled to make a long story short? Too late!!
We have Lord Benjamin Thompson and Miss Victoria Whitchurch met quite accidentally under an umbrella on a rainy day in London.
Their lives intersect often including more than one encounter in the Lyon’s Den.
This story is somewhat of a maze as the previous brother’s stories intersect!
But it is simply that Victoria Whitchurch raised by Vicar values her faith and upbringing and does more than her Christian duty for her sister and Family! Benjamin feels the same!
They both survive family tragedies and Victoria finally accepts him! But there is a lot going on before Benjamin even gets the courage to ask!
It is unfathomable to me that Victoria wants to wait 6 months to wed a truly honorable, handsome and wonderful man to mourn a selfish sister who only looked out for herself!
Then it ended on a cliffhanger!???

Lord Benjamin Thompson another of Lord Macdonald Duncan sons bumps into Miss Victoria Whitworth in the rain and offers her his umbrella who is in London searching for her sister.
As Benjamin and his brothers investigate who was the mysterious man who shot his father he gets involved with Miss Whitworth he finds he is attracted to her and invested in her problems.. He and is brothers both investigate the missing shooter and her missing sister Benjamin getting more attached to Victoria.
This delves more, deeply than some of the authors other Lyons, club novels into the mystery of who shot Lord Duncan.
I am looking forward to the next installment

Another of Lord Duncan’s sons gets “leg-shackled !” And still the mystery continues, though it is a little clearer what is going on. I adored Victoria’s heart for people, especially her wayward sister. Benjamin is one that has stolen my heart with his love of protecting and saving people . Though their relationship felt stilted at times and no real pizzazz to their emotions, it was a very enjoyable read. The writer does a fabulous job of capturing the baby’s antics and keeping all the characters in play. She does a wonderful job of weaving all the stories in this series together, seeing bits of one story aligned with what is going on in another. I can’t wait for Aaran’s story next! Lovely read!

I received this story for free and these are my own views.

This historical romance is part of a series by the same author, as well as being connected to the Lyon's Den world. Because the stories in the series of books all occur at roughly the same time they will make much more sense if you read them all. Each one does have a story of it's own though.
I have read them all so far and am definitely going to read the next one when it's released.
Danger follows the family of our hero, but they don't know who from. So we get mystery as well as danger. Our heroine is a very capable young lady in difficult circumstances. She has her own mystery to solve.
They are all wonderful characters.
Great fun.

This is a well written story. It covered a lot of ground, and I assume some of the brother side stories are other books. Not knowing for sure, made it a little difficult to follow until I got completely used to all of the names of the characters. I wished the book had been more about Victoria and Benjamin. There story is very sweet. Benjamin is such an upright character who cares deeply for everyone. Victoria is dedicated to her family which I'm not sure I would have been considering all the responsibility put on her.

Lord Benjamin Thompson and Miss Victoria Whitchurch met when they ran into each other on a rainy day. Victoria is in London trying to locate her sister. Benjamin is trying to find clues to the person who shot Lord Duncan. They next meet in the garden at the Lyon’s Den. Both are there to find information for their individual searches. Weary from working late and caring for her sister’s baby who was left in her rooms, Victoria collapsed. Not knowing her direction, Benjamin, true to his protective self, took her to his home. This begins a wonderful slow-burn romance that comes to a happy ending. This is an interesting story with mystery and suspense. Benjamin and Victoria have much in common. Both their fathers were vicars. They are intelligent, caring and protective of others, and devoted to family. A lovely romance and an intriguing mystery.

Benjamin and Victoria literally bump into each other in London. He is intrigued by her. Victoria is alone in London working as a seamstress and searching for her unwed pregnant sister. When she finds a newborn baby in her apartment, Victoria knows she needs help. Benjamin steps up to help with the baby as well as the search for her sister. He must, however, keep his family safe from an unknown predator. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
