The Secrets We Inherit

Rate this book
When boyfriends Nick and Jamie trade their nomadic influencer life for the romance of a crumbling Victorian manor, they imagine lazy mornings, shared dreams, and a home they can finally call theirs. But Wood Ford Manor has been waiting for new hearts—and it hungers for more than love.
Whispers curl through the hallways like secrets meant only for the dead. Shadows gather in corners, watching them with intent. And as the house begins to pull at the threads of their bond, Nick and Jamie discover that some ghosts don’t want vengeance… they want company.
Trapped between a love worth fighting for and a haunting older and darker than either of them imagined, the men must unravel the manor’s past before it unravels them. Because in a place built on stolen lives and silent suffering, devotion becomes both their weapon—and the danger that might doom them.
A lush, gothic LGBTQ+ romance steeped in yearning, dread, and the fierce, fragile love that refuses to die even when the darkness rises.

The Secrets We Inherit

I’m from the northwest of England and my husband’s family come from the Llandudno area of North Wales so the places and some of the themes encountered in this book are familiar to me. John has written a thrilling and modern ghost story complete with gothic elements going back over 150 years ago interspersed with elements of local legend and history that go back even further. Nick and Jamie are well written, well rounded characters and this is not just a ghost story but a loving representation of their relationship and development.
