Immortal Rogues #2

Archer's Arrow

If Olympus falls... Will they all pay the price?

Years ago, Artemis was sent off on a quest. It should have been easy—after all, it involved finding Fenrir of the Norse gods, and finding lost things is what she's known to do. Olympians don’t take kindly to insult, and his attack eons ago on Hades resulted in a price on the Norse god's head.

As Olympus' bounty hunter, Artemis is more than suited for the task at hand. And yet, Fenrir has eluded her time and time again. Now, frustrated, she’s down to her last tricks… and it's only through a twist of fate that she ends up stumbling on the elusive Norse god.

But is he truly the villain Olympus seeks? Or was there more at stake when he’d attacked Hades, more than either of them know? Perhaps even something nefarious enough to bring on the end of the world as they know it…

The last thing Artemis needs is to lose her focus and start caring for the mercurial, withdrawn god and the demons he keeps wrestling within. Especially when his own pantheon starts hunting them, and things go from messy to straight-on chaotic.

When push comes to shove, will Artemis hand Fenrir over to the Olympians to face his punishment, or stand by him and risk losing everything she’s ever known?

As a big fan of Alexa Whitewolf’s Rogues Extended Universe, I’m always eager to dive into a new release in the world. Be it shifters, vampires, or deities, I am here for it. While I love each in a different way, the deities have had me curious throughout, leaving me desperate to find out more. After enjoying Secret Shadows, the first in the Immortal Rogues series, I had high hopes of what the rest of the series would offer.

Archer’s Arrow, the second book in the Immortal Rogues series, certainly delivered. Alexa Whitewolf once again demonstrated her ability to take the known and spin it in unique ways. We’re given deities we know and love, then things are twisted in ways that are rarely seen. By mingling the mythologies together, Alexa Whitewolf has given a story that is sure to hook a variety of readers. As much as I love Alexa Whitewolf’s ability to add unique spins to known mythologies, that is not the only gripping part of Archer’s Arrow. There is an addictive story contained within that has you curious about the bigger world, details that leave you turning the pages at a rapid pace. Add in the great characters, and I could not put it down.

Without a doubt, Alexa Whitewolf has once again delivered an addictive story that has you eager for more. I cannot wait to see what the third book brings.

“Archer’s Arrow” is the second instalment on the “Immortal Rogues” series by Alexa Whitewolf, a paranormal fantasy series that mixes mythology, fantasy, very snarky gods/goddesses, and romance into a highly entertaining read, funny and fast-paced with a solid mythological background. The story blends Greek and Norse mythology with Romanian epic folklore into an organic plot that works surprisingly well for the story.

While is perfectly possible to start this series right here, I would warmly recommend to also read the first instalment – before or immediately after this is up to you 😉 – to get briefly acquainted with the Fates (Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos) rewriting story to right some wrong… whatever wrongs they intended to right… they result is anything but ‘right’, and be direct witness of how they mess with Hades life. However, let us put Hades aside for a brief moment and concentrate on Artemis, the actual MC of this story and her quest to find Fenrir and exact retribution for the attack of the Norse on Hades. As the official Olympus bounty hunter the assignment should be right on her ally, but as everyone knows – or at least suspect 😊 – nothing is straightforward when the Gods are involved, and playing broker between two pantheons is a thankless job at best. And the issue becomes even more complicated when she finally finds Fenrir only to realize that he doesn’t exactly fit the bill of the ‘arch-villain’ the Greeks have him proclaimed to be.

Alexa Whitewolf interlaces factual mythology and folklore, both Romanian and Ancient Greek, with fiction elements to create a wonderful story. Her version of the Olympus is fantastic, not only true to the mythology but credible, fresh, entertaining. All characters are very well-crafted, credible and interesting, infused with a fine kind of humor, credibility, charisma and intelligence, fully invested into a fast-paced, action-packed, original and interesting story from start to finish.

Artemis is a bounty hunter. She was hired twenty years ago by Hades to find Fenrir. Fenrir is a Norse god and the son of Loki. Fenrir is accused of attacking Hades in his wolf form and killing Hades’ best friend Pegasus. It has taken Artemis many years to track Fenrir since he does not use his god powers. Artemis is a woman who believes in justice.

Fenrir has been fighting a darkness in him for years. He cannot lose control because if he does an unimaginable evil will be let lose. He has hidden in the mortal realm for many centuries. He has done this by not using his powers. He has learned that when he uses his powers it attracts evil creatures that are after him. Those creatures will kill innocents.

Will Artemis realize that everything is not as it seems? Did Fenrir attack Hades and kill Pegasus maliciously? Is there something bigger going on? Who or what are the creatures that attack them? There is lots of action to keep you on the edge of your seat. Many twists and turns that will keep you entertained and wanting more.

The sparks between Fenrir and Artemis just sizzle. Their passion is hot and consuming. Their chemistry devours them and they connect at every level. Watching them fight their feelings and then finally giving in to their passion was riveting. They know their feelings are real. They are made for each other. They have steamy scenes together where they are consumed by desire. I loved the pairing of Artemis and Fenrir. Fenrir is adorable. He is very concerned for Artemis. He is caring and protective. He will do anything for her. Can Artemis make Fenrir realize that he is worth saving? That she would do anything for him too.

This is the second book in the Immortal Rogues series. The book was amazing. The author weaves a story that captures you from the start. This story flows and keeps you turning the pages. The world that the author has built is amazing. There are so many wonderful characters and unlimited possibilities. The author has brought together the Greek, the Norse, the Celtic, the Mayan, the Egyptian, the African, the North American, the Chinese, and the Middle Eastern characters from their legends and mythology together. The interactions between the different pantheons is very intriguing. It is lots of fun to see them argue and collaborate together for a common enemy. The ending has you craving more. I cannot wait for the next book in the series which will feature Anubis and Rhea. I received a free copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really liked this book. I liked all the plot twists and that all the pantheons are in 1 series and they are able to co-mingle. It is VERY different from the normal mythology based fiction that I have read. I loved Artemis and Fenrir together and thought their relationship was really sweet. I can't wait to see more of it in subsequent books. Hades is always a favorite of mine. Just about every book I read with him in it, from Katee Robert's Neon Gods, to this book (and the first book in this series), I have a soft spot for dear Hades. So misunderstood. I like that Artemis makes the mental connection that Fenrir and Hades are birds of a feather. It made me smile.

I also just love the shape shifting ability. In some mythology, Fenrir is unable to claim a human body and it's interesting to read about how he is more of a shifter and less of just an animal. I will say that I was confused between shifts some times. I would THINK that Fenrir was in his human form but then we would switch to Artemis's POV and she would say that she saw a huge black dog and then I would back track and reread Fenrir's POV as though he were a wolf. It didn't throw me off too bad and it didn't inhibit the story BUT, I did get confused from time to time.

Other than that (and that is the reason for 4/5 honestly) this book was great and so was the first book in the series. I also want to point out that this book reads as close to a standalone as you can get while having the series be co-dependent. Meaning that I feel like I still would have understood about 95% of this book without reading the first book. Do I recommend that? No... but you totally could. I don't think you could read the third book without reading the first 2 though. That is where the co-dependency feels like it's really going to come into play. We shall see!

I absolutely love Greek mythology. The Immortal Rogues doesn't only have elements of this, but of other mythologies as well, from Norse to Celtic to Egyptian mythology. It was amazing to see the author try and piece out each of them, creating a story that connects all of them together.

The series was sort of like a fan fic of the myths and folklores. It was not a retelling, because a lot of the components of the myths were written. Not just adapted, but outright lifted from the original myths with a few altercations here and there. It was interesting, especially when trying out different ways to plot the characters' fates (like in the first book, Secret Shadows, which was about the beloved classic tale of Hades and Persephone).

Archer's Arrow is the continuation of Secret Shadows and I highly believe that the two should be read together and in chronological order, though they can also be read as standalones. The first book about Hades started the series, and the huge plot which began with his story continues on to this book where Greek goddess Artemis was sent out to hunt the Fenrir, the wolf-god of the Norse mythology.

Out of all the mythologies, I never dreamed of Artemis and Fenrir being roped into one, let alone whose destinies cross with each other. This was a new take from the previous book, and for the unexpectedness, I give due credit. I wished there was more meat to both the characters because it would be really interesting to see them interact with one another knowing their full character history and personalities rather than just telling the story as they go where their paths collided.

I still enjoyed reading the book as I found the writing hilarious and deliciously cringe-y. It was entertaining as hell and the pace was just right. Artemis and Fenrir have this soft kind of chemistry which made me like them as a couple despite the lack of density and development of their characters. The twist was okay, but the POVs really distracted me from the story. The narrative was in first person dual POV of Artemis and Fenrir, but one of them changes forms during their internal monologues and it was confusing at times when reading from a certain POV only then to be informed later on that it was on the POV of the character in another form.

This series was a great attempt to coalesce all those mythologies from different countries with their different cultures, but as much as the author has chewed more than she could bite, it was a bit lacking. A good scaffolding would be ideal, to try to integrate each group of individuals from one myth to another, and not just deliver them expecting the readers would already have had the sense to know their backgrounds on the get go.

That being said, it was a fun read and I'm ready to explore more of this untamed fan fic world of the deities.

This book had all the elements I never knew I needed in a book. Greek, Norse, Celt, Egyptian, and many more mythologies represented. I was drawn in from the start and didn't want to put it down. When it ended my first thought was that I need more. There is a bit of a cliffhanger, but it is for the overall story arc.

This book focuses on Artemis as a bounty hunter, and Fenrir her bounty. Yes, the Greek goddess Artemis and Fenrir the Norse wolf. She has been looking for him for 20 years to bring him back to Olympus for some crimes he committed there against her Uncle Hades. When she finally catches up to him, their story unfolds dramatically and a lot of secrets are uncovered. I LOVE their enemies to lovers story arc. They both are fierce in their own ways but when you put them together, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Artemis has a quest, to find Fenrir and bring him to Olympus. It's been years, but Artemis doesn't give up, until she finally finds him, running a bar in Ireland.

She is determined to bring him back, but his story doesn't fit to what she heard. There must be more going on that either of them knew about. And there is something about Fenrir that makes her nervous, the way he makes her feel.

In Archer's Arrow, the mythologies are mixed - gods know about each other but generally stay on their own lane, mostly. It's not my favourite thing, but in this story, it works so well. :) There are gods and schemes and romance and so much more.

It's a fast read, the kind of book you can read in one sitting, preferably on the beach. :)

received from the author, all thoughts and opinions are my own

Archer's Arrow is book two in the Immortal Rogues, I would recommend that you read the first book to get a better understanding of the world, but it's not necessary, book two can be read as a standalone.

I really enjoyed this book, it was not at all what I was expecting. Artemis and Fenrir as enemies to lovers was not something that I thought could work but it does. I enjoyed the twists and turns in this story. I can't wait for the next book to see what couple will take my attention.

I liked this story that mixes a few different types of gods together to give a god enemy to lovers story. Fenrir and Artemis area riot together. Entertaining and fun to read I had a hard time putting it down. Had to see what would be thrown at them and how it would end. And what they would discover along the way.

Wow! What a rush! Loki has always been my least favourite Norse god so nothing he does (bad) surprises me but Odin really disappointed me when I learned he was not ignorant of what Loki had done. Zeus has always been a 'my way, or the highway' kind of guy, but his closed-minded attitude here really takes the cake. I can't help but wonder if he too knows more than he's letting on.

I love it when more than one pantheon is included in a story and I love greek and norse mythology. To have them included in one series was great. This was the second book in the series and I'm going to have to get books 1 and 3 to really enjoy the series. I found myself glued to the story and couldn't put it down. There is a bit of a cliffhanger. I highly recommend you read the first book so you can get a better understanding of the world but you don't have too to enjoy this book.

Never in my wildest dream did I think I needed this book with a little bit of Greek mythology and a little bit of Norse mythology and throw in some romance.

I absolutely loved that the fate from Greek mythology you know made an appearance at the very beginning of the story trying to correct a mistake they made in the previous book hoping that it would’ve worked itself out but that didn’t necessarily happen.

This was the first book by Alexa White Wolf that I read and I will say that it had the right amount of mythology the right amount of romance, mystery/suspense throw in your bit of enemies to lovers and bounty hunter and you get this story. You also get to see several other mythological gods from other cultures who are all tied together with the story that builds upon itself and I cannot wait to see what the next installment in the series is going to be because they somehow it ended I am seeing a bit of Egyptian mythology thrown in.

Let me not forget to mention this und not able to pull between Artemis and Fenrir, where they don’t always want to be together because they can’t stand each other but they feel drawn to each other. And don’t want anything to happen to the other, and always looking for them in any situation.

An amazing second book that will take you to another world. Paranormal and fantasy and maybe some romance to make this an outstanding story.
