King's Command #2

Eastern Embrace

Rate this book
[Siren Everlasting Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Fantasy Paranormal Romance, M/M, shape-shifters, HEA]

By the King's Command... Daimyo Akihiro Shimada didn't have the hatred for humans that many of his kind did. It was a known fact that humans were weak. Every dragon knew that. When the king commands him to take a human as a mate, Akihiro is instantly smitten with Isei but fully aware that he must treat his mate with gentle care, even if his gut instincts say otherwise.

Isei Hironaka is a second son. He has no chance of ever being anything more than he is until he is forced to impersonate his brother at the King's coronation ceremony. When the new king orders him to mate with a dragon, Isei is positive his ruse will be discovered.

Mating to strengthen the bond between clan and clutch is one thing. Staying mated is an all together different story, especially when those around Akihiro and Isei believe dragons and humans have no business falling in love and they will do everything within their power to keep them apart.

Really? ? I wanted Isei to at least have his mate truly see how wrong he was during must of this book. He was forgiven so easily! I'm being generous with the extra star.... how and why was be a " leader "?? He brought nothing to the table or his people or the Clutch.

My goodness....
I wanted to see Akihiro earned that trust once more from Isei. Isei must let his mate know how truly wrong he was. He was forgiven so easily....

This book made me so mad. I just hate how the author wrote Isei's character. This isn't a love story but a story of an emotionally abused and gaslit person in a toxic relationship. I don't care how bad the "alpha" feels it is unrealistic to have a sex scene directly after Isei wakes up from a suicide attempt that left him paralyzed. I realize these books aren't supposed to be realistic (with dragons and all) but the characters should have some resemblance of normative emotional characteristics or else what is the point of the book???? I really couldn't bring myself to finish this book. DFN.

This book reminded me of the Mills & Boon Romances so beloved of the eighties. You have your strong silent alpha male, domineering over the petite, beautiful, helpless, kind, too stupid to live heroine. Said heroine usually had a high-powered job, but secretly her only ambition was to serve her husband and bear him many children. The girls in that romances had nothing in common with the strong, capable women I know in RL, and this is part of the reason why I stop reading MF romances.

Well, the human in THIS story, Isei, is the reincarnation of a M&B heroine, but with a penis. He is petite. As is mentioned infinite times. As if smallness of stature implicates weakness of heart. He cannot stand up for himself, and his strong alpha male of a mate steamroller over him time and again. And he takes it. He is protected all the time, hiding when there are fights, he is sexually harassed by another strong warrior who does not take no for an answer, and all he wanted to do was make babies and serve his mate. It frustrated me to bits. I read MM romances, because I want to read the romance between two MEN. Not between a guy and a Mills and Boon heroine with a penis.

So I would give this book 1 star, but the characters were compelling even when they were frustrating, and there was a small baby with dragon wings . That is worth a full star in my book.

After the first book in the series I expected an adventure filled story with lots of interactions between the two MCs. That is not what I found. The personalities and backgrounds of Akihiro and Isei are vastly different, as is their story.
You can understand Isei's thoughts and confidence problems as he has been treated badly for his whole life. The scene on the balcony was sad but a logical direction for his character. Akihiro's character is harder to understand. For the leader of his clutch he seems to be too easily swayed by the opinions of others. Establishing early on that he thinks of humans as weak and simple minded helps in understanding some of his actions.
If you ignore the occasional proofing errors and an annoying continuity error in the early chapters you will find well told but sad and, at times, depressing story. They have to suffer a lot of drama before reaching their happy ending.
The big continuity error was in the initial claiming scene. For two men with one hand tied together they appear to have free use of both hands quite often.
You have to have read the first book to understand some of the background about dragons and humans that are skipped over in this book.

If I could get my hands on that dumb dragon and bash his head into a stone wall I would. Isei's too. No communication in this story and the whole thing was really frustrating to read. The happy ending made me want to throw the book out of the window.

I don't really want to spoil this for people but Isei is too forgiving, and honestly too much of a doormat...

I felt many emotions while reading this book. Anger, at how awful Isei was treated by his brother, then how he was tricked into his mating by the King. I loved the relationship he had with Akihiro, until he stopped listening to Isei and started to do what others thought he should in regard to his mate.Yes I think Isei should have tried harder to state his opinion but Akihiro was not using his head. I loved the friendship that developed quickly with Tetsuo. That man had his back! The nanny? omg I wanted to rip her head off! Wanted to cry when Isei did the only thing he thought he could to stop the pain! Then when Akihiro finally gets his head out of his......and realizes what has been going on? LOVED alot what was done then. I loved this story. Even though parts made me so angry and then wanting to cry then all ..."awwwww" Loved how it ended. Let's hope Izo and the King....yeah I can't wait to read about THAT. *snicker*

I don't give 5 stars randomly!

O-M-F-G!

This was... I mean... WOW...

Human and dragon being mates it's good but it's not what makes me go crazy with this story.
The characters are well thought out, the story it's just so sad and real and touching and... *big sigh* I have just finish it and I'm so impressed and blown away.

Isei was just such a perfect example with his mate Akihiro, of how things can get confused, how decisions that you make thinking that are for the benefit of others can be completly wrong. How important it's to talk with your partner, and other things that just made me love this book so much.

For me this is one of those examples that just prooves to me how great Olivia is as a writer.

Dragon, human gay romance

The king forces a mating between a dragon and a human from adjacent territories to strengthen the borders of his kingdom. The dragon is pleased but the human is very nervous because he is the second son and not the accepted leader of the humans and his brother is not going away quietly. It starts as a love story but deteriorates as the dragon tries to isolate his human to keep him safe listening to other dragons about how fragile humans are even to the point of keeping him from his own child. Things get very bleak until the dragon realizes his mistakes, as battles rage and the human forgives. We do get our HEA.

This book was much better and different from the first book. I liked that there have been very different problems to other stories of this genre. Many times I wanted to give a fist Akihiro for hurting Isei

It was very innovative this story, the problems that happened this couple were the most surprising. This genre is quite predictable, but this story surprised me a lot.

And he mysterious king, which is as Cupid, What would happen to him? In the third book will get your own partner? I hope the next book much.

Eastern Embrace

The King mated Akihiro and Isei together. Isei was sent to the kings court by his brother who did not want to go. The king knew who Isei was and put him and Akihiro in charge of their people who are human and dragon. There was all kind of problems that they faced and come out stronger in their love in the end. I can not wait for the next book. Erin

When good authors, turn evil....

They grab you by the heart and drag you with their hero through each step of his agony. Till you can't take anymore. Like a drugged man you turn the page hoping to find the hero victorious. These ladies leave it to the last moment, when you just can't anymore, to bring the men together for a....

Well, you'll just have to read it yourself!

4 stars for Isei. I couldn't wrap my mind around Akihiro stupidity. I mean he's suppose to be a leader yet he was too easily swayed by others opinions. I think Isei forgave a bit too easily.
