Theodor "Theo" Rosely is man who is successful and confident. He's also someone who likes women a lot. So much so that he has his regulars, scheduled for days of the weeks, leaving one day open for random hook ups. When he goes for a doctors visit, his best friend, he realizes that he needs to make a change in his routine in order to alleviate stress. He starts swimming again, which he hasn't done in years. But that one change in his routine causes him to become obsessed, or shall we say "Tempted" by the woman who swims daily next to him in lane one, Cassie.

description

She's not the typical woman he goes for, she's frumpy and slightly overweight. But he is drawn to her against his will, at times not being able to work for thinking of her. It takes a year and a shocking revelation for him to speak to her.

description

Things happen where he starts to slowly eliminate his regulars from his life. Especially once he finds out his personal connection to Cassie, where he has all the access to he could want. Though he's seen her almost daily for a year and is finding out more and more about her, what does he really know about this woman? And who is that man she was hugging?

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The journal entries at the beginning of each installment are fascinating. But the prologue, which is more like where we end up and the story is how we go there, has ben confused. I guess I will need to keep reading in order to understand.

This was actually really good!! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I found that Theo's sexual comments were just too much at times, but this is completely a personal preference! More people need to read this, although now I'm impatiently waiting for book #2!
"Do you see the guy standing behind the chrome, three-tier towel rack, staring out at the long length of the lap pool like a creeper, or pedophile? The devastatingly handsome man with short, dirty blond hair, but long enough for you to hold on to while he's fucking you? That dumbshit is me."
Moments like this had me laughing while reading this! While his sexual comments were a bit much at times I really loved the fact that the book was told from his perspective. I found there was similarities between Theo from Lane One: Temptation and Will from Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren. It might just be because I read Beautiful Player recently though. Regardless, I really liked Theo's character. I feel like there's a lot more to him that us as readers just don't know yet. I can't wait to learn more about his past/character.

Cassie/Maria was an interesting character and such a tease!! It was quite obvious there was chemistry between her and Theo but every time things started to really heat up between them she'd stop it. I really can't wait to get my hands on Lane One: Seduction and find out what Cassie was doing at the church and who the mystery blond man is!

Wow! I honestly don’t know what to think about this book! I devoured in just a few hours, so I obviously enjoyed reading it, needing to know what was going to happen. But it is so unlike anything I have read before.

This story is told from Theo’s point-of-view. Each chapter starts with an entry in his journal and then he tells us the story. Theo is an asshole, plain and simple. He is rich, arrogant, and sleeps with any woman he finds attractive. Until suddenly he finds temptation in the first lane of the swimming pool at his health club.

“I’ve never been this bewitched by a woman before, and the thought terrifies me…”

And his mysterious temptation is nothing like his usual conquests. She is heavy, has curves, and is shy.

We watch as Theo stalks and obsesses over Cassie before finally making a move. Only Cassie is not like his normal pursuit. She is determined, has a strong will-power, and while she finds Theo attractive, she is unwilling to just give in to him.

The ending left me hanging, wanting more. This story was unique and steamy and kept me completely captivated while reading. I cannot wait for the next part and to see the story from Cassie’s point-of-view. ~ Tiffany, 5 stars

~~~
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. The whole book is in Theo's POV and he is an interesting guy. I'm still confused over the prologue, though I'm assuming I may get answers about it in the next book.
Theo is a businessman who really cares about his heath and likes to work out often. Since he still has a lot of stress, he starts to swim again. This is how he meets the girl in lane one. Theo likes women, and Cassie is not someone he would go for, yet he is very intrigued by her.
For a year he stalks her and watches her at the pool. He starts to see other women less and he has yet to say a word to her. All they do is swim next to each other. What will it take for him to finally make a move?
Cassie is attracted to Theo, but she won't give in to him. She knows what kind of guy he is, or at least the guy he used to be. She doesn't just want to be another one of his conquests. Theo is not used to this reaction from women.
The book ends on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read what happens next. There are so many questions left unanswered. I'm not sure what Theo will decide to do with the situation he has been handed. Can he prove to Cassie that he can be the guy for her? I also am glad that we will be able to see from Cassie's POV in the next book. ~ Leah, 4 stars
This was a blind pick on my Kindle, obviously a freebie I downloaded at some point (I download everything except blatantly pretentious religious themes and anything with "alpha" in the title because it's always some boring variation of horny werewolves).
Dude is a douchebag. Everything thing about this novel is skeevy and uncomfortable.
Strike one was when he noted that it's not his fault women sleep with him - their relatives should just tell them to shut their legs. The second was the ridiculous descriptions of Cassie in her bathing suit. The third strike was when he basically said, "You wanted it," and that was a perfectly legitimate excuse to him for her "no" not to really mean "no." Fuck you, dude. I try not to swear on Goodreads, but seriously, fuck you.
I finished the book, and frankly, I'm glad it ended before anything significant happened. From this angle, I can pretend that the author allows Cassie to retain her self-respect and stand her ground.
Ugh, ick.
Sorry, this is a first taster, a freebie read, which turns into a series of four...with cliffhanger.
The guy Theo is a douchebag. Rich, vain thinks he’s god’s gift to women, has no respect for them, they are there to slate his lust, they are commodities to be used for his pleasure...then strangely curious, he becomes infatuated, at first in derogatory fashion, about an overweight woman swimming in the pool next to him. He’s curious and fighting curiosity and attraction every inch of the way.
Marie/Cassie seems a nice enough lass, who's had a lousy start in life and looks like she and Theo may end in a relationship.
Run woman...
He’s creepy. Can’t see him with his current attitudes to women and children having any genuine friends especially a doctor who knows what he’s like...shallow and vile in personality, but covered in attractive packaging, a male user...you know the sort.
The writer needs a decent editor...I will leave a couple of highlighted examples open, so you can see if this would irritate you, as a reader, as it did me.
1.5 stars as I won’t be reading more to see what this ends as. However, if it had been a one off novel I may have bought it if reasonably priced and had a better review to post. As is...not so.
Хм... для небольшой эротической новеллки про девственницу и ух какого секси-самца - перебор драмы. И у нее в жизни фигня и у него. Очень многого автор не объясняет, что мне не очень нравится. И лепит (ну лично для меня) нелепостей, типа, того что у нее есть машина, но нет дома, потому что будучи ребенком который рос от одной приемной семьи к другой, героиня много заработает, но оставляет себе немного денег на еду, а остальное отдает в приют. Спит то у друзей на которых работает (няней), либо в ЦЕРКВИ, где ей разрешают ночевать. Но при этом , как только она решается соблазнить друга, идет по магазинам, покупает нижнее белье, платье, идет в салон... прям странное отношение у героини. Тут меня автор смутила. То есть когда хочет она деньги из матроса достает? Плюс, имея комплекс связанные с лишним весом, она на протяжение двух лет ходит в спорт-зал и бассейн. Я, кончено, понимаю, что приоритеты у всех разные, но не лучше быть толстой, но иметь крышу над головой? Вообще, пишет Джастин классно, но что-то в этот раз история мягко говоря странная.
Пока оставлю без оценки. Буду читать дальше.
I was unsure about this book as I started it. First of all, it's a cliffhanger, and I hate those. But I knew it going in so I only have myself to blame for being ticked at the end. But it took me a few chapters to really get on board with the book itself. It was just different from the author's other works.
The book is strictly from the guy's POV, and through most of the early chapters, he wasn't very likable. It took a while for me to be won over and for me to become interested in Theo's story and HEA.
But, I'm intrigued and can't want to read the continuation of this story.
~ 5 Interesting Beginning Stars ~
So I have to say that Justine has left me scratching my head with this one….and not in a bad way. She has me so curious as to what is going to happen between Theo and Cassie.
Lane One : Temptation is the first novella in a series of Novellas. This book was different from what I have read of Justine's before. What I did enjoy about this book and every Justine Elvira book I read, is her writing style. She has the ability to create a story and characters that I am completely drawn to. This book was no different, she grabbed my attention right from page one and held it until the final sentence. Now as you can probably guess, this book does end with a cliffhanger, being that it is in a serial. It's not a nail biter so you could read this book now and be okay with ending until the next one is released. One thing I loved in this book was that she wrote it completely from Theo's POV, I'm a sucker for the male POV ;)
This is very quick read, one that would only take a couple hours max to read. This was a great starter book for this serial, we didn't learn a whole lot in this book. What we do know is that Theo is unexplainably attracted to this girl who he sees at his health club who is always swimming in Lane One. He is so obsessed with getting to know her, he actually turns kind of stalkerish….lol, he openly admits this to himself too. I don't know how I feel right now about Theo. I found myself rolling my eyes at him quite a bit during this book, but I don't dislike him. I think I just need more information on him and his background to really feel the connection to him. I feel the same way about Cassie. We don't learn anything about her background. She is a interesting character in that she was very hot and cold with Theo in this book. I am so curious as to what her back story is. I am anxiously waiting the second book, to hopefully find out more about these two and what really did happen at the end of this book (you'll need to read this book to understand that statement).
One aspect of this story that grabbed my attention was that Cassie isn't the typical bombshell heroine. She is, as Theo would call her, frumpy, but as the story unravels we find there is more to her and that she is beautiful in her own way. It's not often that I read a book about a girl who is slightly overweight and doesn't have model type looks. This to me made her feel real and relatable. I definitely want to know her secrets.
This book is definitely a teaser meant to wet your appetite for more. Justine created the element of mystery to keep you coming back for more. I would recommend this book if you are a fan of Justine's books….This is definitely something new from her.
“Why the hell am I hiding behind a towel rack stalking a woman I don’t know, and who is most definitely not my type?”
This story is the first part in a serial from Justine Elvira and I can honestly say it has a ton of potential. The entire story is told from Theo’s point of view and is mostly about the curvy woman at his health club that he has been infatuated with, They swim next to each other everyday and although she is rounder and not as strikingly beautiful as he usually goes for he cannot get her out of his head. He even goes as far as to change his entire daily schedule just to be near her for a while longer.
“I had no idea how long I watched her that day, but I knew I should stop. This was becoming unhealthy”
Something is up with Theo and I need to know more. That is the basically how the end of this story left me feeling which I guess is appropriate for a serial. I can’t tell if something is off mentally with him or he is somehow damaged from strained relationships with his family but something has left him slightly off and just need to know! Since this book is told from his point of view a ton of it is his inner dialogue, giving us a taste of his crazy without divulging too much
”You see. I’m sick. Maybe . . . Probably . . Slightly disturbed. Paging the nearest Psych ward.”
Overall, this was a fast and crazy glimpse into a almost stalker/obsessed mans brain and I am excited to see more of where this will go!
I was given a arc in exchange for my honest review.
This book is seriously unlike anything I have ever read from Justine or anyone. And possibly my new favorite read of 2014!
From page one it captivates you and keeps your interest piqued . Theo is one sexy , rich, alpha. And he has a secret.
He slowly starts to fall for the sweet and "frumpy" girl in lane one. For almost a year he watches her and slowly becomes obsessed with her every move. He finally works up the nerve to talk to her and they realize they have more in common than they would of have ever guessed. The two are attracted to each other, but Cassie pulls away. She knows Theo's past and doesn't want to be another notch on the bed post. Theo is desperate to show her who he truly is and that he has changed and actually has genuine feelings for her. Will she let him have a chance?
He follows her throughout the whole story and its very mysterious and humorous. It keeps you guessing and gripping your Kindle the entire time. I loved every single minute of this book. Could not put it down once I started. I know everyone will love it as much as I do. Cannot wait for part 2!!!
I did not read any reviews before reading this and now I'm thinking I should have... because I have no idea what to make of this.
I usually like male POV books, but only if I can actually stand they guy. I just couldn't figure out what Theo's deal was. He comes off as a creepy manwhore who does everything he can to avoid meaningful relationships with the exception of his goddaughter (and he's criticized for not spending time with her, but he clearly does since he's got a car seat for her in his own car), he's overstressed, obsessed, and has friends who are quick to criticize despite their own faults. Weird. I kept thinking that this would turn funny, but it's just awkward.
Cassie is interesting, but hiding something and runs hot and cold which is neither becoming nor intriguing. I may not like Theo but he didn't deserve to get punched in the junk.
I kinda hope she's seeing someone else and then maybe this story will take a turn for the better.
Only 20 pages in to this 90 page serialized story. Cannot read any more of this story. The story is so unbelievable that I will delete it from my on line eBook library. This is a rarity. I have stopped reading and deleted maybe 5 books. The story and/or the writing has to very bad for me to do this.
Don't waste you time with this book.
Yeah. I’m hooked on these characters and can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Cassie is very like able and Theo, he is a jerk but also very like able, in my opinion. I can’t wait to see where this relationship goes. They are both playing cat and mouse right now.
This book drew me in as the synopsis sounded familiar because of the rich hot alpha male that is a mystery and loves extremely attractive women that only ever appear in books or films. Lol
But it also drew me in as the book sounded different as well as familiar. I loved that the hot guy who loved super model type women ends up captivated and very interested in a "frumpy" slightly over weight and average looking women.
I loved that this book was different to any other book I had read because of the women being "average." This made the story a lot easier to relate to as not everyone in the world are stunning model types. I absolutely loved the author took the route of a average girl that the millionaire likes, rather than following "the pack" with how the women usually is and unlike any book I have every read before.
Theo sees a mystery girl one day swimming in "lane one" and for over a year he secretly watches her and starts to fall for her. Theo has not idea what is drawing him to her as she is nothing like his "type" but he can't stop watching her and doesn't no why. Slowly Theo starts to become obsessed with everything about "lane one" girl and one day finally gets the courage to talk to her.
Cassie is "lane one girl" she is one big mystery and we are told nothing about her story. This peaked my interest as it wanted to no more about Cassie and what her story was. She wasn't the super model type but she was still gorgeous in her own way inside and out. She was smart, kind, mysterious and very very strong. Her character was wrote brilliantly. She had so many layers to her personality that reading about her and peeling back her layers was very interesting.
When Theo confronts Cassie she is immediately attracted to him and neither could understand the pull they have towards each other. Cassie however is not interested in the pull between each other or the chemistry between them that's sizzling off the pages as she's not interested in being a notch on a big players bed post.
I completely understood why Cassie made that decision, but I loved that Theo didn't take no for a answer and that he wanted to prove to her that he meant everything he said to her about his feelings for her and he truly tried to change to prove he was true as well. This made me fall completely in love with Theo. you could see his intentions were true to Cassie and he meant every word he said to her, but that didn't mean things went straight forward as they both held secrets.
I really enjoyed this story and especially the mystery surrounding it. I loved that it was different, but familiar also. The story had quite a bit of humour and Witt in it as well which made the story even better in my option as one minute I'd be laughing and the next my heart would be aching.
I applaud the author for writing a book that more people could relate to and that the author makes you see true beauty doesn't have to be physical, but true beauty is inner deep.
I loved the true meaning behind the whole book and was very happy to read a book where inner beauty shines throughout the whole book, not physical beautify.
The story was defiantly a page turner and a great story. Can't wait until book 2.
I am a huge fan of serials and love Justine Elvira's work. When I read the synopsis I was definitely intrigued. After reading the prologue I was completely sucked in because I needed to know what the heck happened and was very curious about the hero in this story.
Theo is a Manwhore. He honestly gives new meaning to the word. He has his regulars that he sees on a weekly basis and leaves one or two nights open for a different woman who is lucky enough to be taken home by him. Ok given his manwhorish ways, his arrogance and cockiness I'm not sure I would consider myself lucky enough to go home with him. But Theo thinks differently and apparently so do the women.
But while he has had many women there is one that has caught his eye. Someone who is completely different than any woman he has been with. He can't even explain or understand his obsession with her. And yes it becomes a bit of a stalker obsession where she is concerned. But he cannot help himself. This mystery woman swims at his health club every day in Lane one. And for the past year Theo has watched her. Even swims right next to her because she is all he can think about. His frequent booty calls to his regulars have even started to become less and less. Imagine that!
Theo finds that him and Cassie, his mystery woman have a friend in common. And while he knows he should stay away it is nearly impossible. He finally gets the chance to talk to her and it he knows that she is attracted to him as well. But Cassie also tends to run hot and cold when it comes to Theo and he is not really sure what her deal is. But he is determined to get her to go out with him. Will he be able to convince her to give him a chance?
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see what happens. But truthfully I am not sure how I feel about Theo at the moment. I don't mind the reformed bad boy who sleeps with anything that moves. But he has taken Manwhore to a new level. I liked him I really did because at times you see a different side of him. Especially when he is with his best friend’s little girl and seeing how much he loves her. But then he opens his mouth again and ruins it. But he is trying and you can feel that he likes Cassie and that she is becoming more than just a quick lay to him. He really wants to get to know her. I'm waiting and hoping that he can truly change his ways and be worthy of Cassie. I hope we get to see these two characters grow and also see more about their past. Cassie is a very interesting character and cannot wait to find out more about her past. And I need to know why is Theo the way he is with woman? Looking forward to the next one.
You know what? I genuinely liked this book. I didn't love it. I wasn't desperate to get to the end, but I did enjoy myself along the way. Initially, I found there was too much of a focus on Cassie's weight, both from Theo and the people around him. Yes, I get it, she's a bigger woman trying to lose some weight--must it be brought to my attention every ten seconds?
description
Theo is a jerk. A huge, misogynistic jerk. Seriously. There are glimmers of redemption toward the end of the book, but I assume he'll grow as a character the more we read about him. Anyone who doesn't realize he's a complete ass about women within the first chapter is just... It's so painfully obvious how terrible he is, and it makes me both sigh with frustration and appreciate him for sticking to his truth. If you're not a huge fan of him in the first two chapters, you're not going to enjoy the rest of the book--plain and simple.
Like Theo, I found Cassie to be a really intriguing character. I loved the way she worked for what she wanted, and her softness contrasts nicely with Theo's assholery. However, I did feel that she was giving him mixed signals (just a little bit), and was a little annoyed with her actions toward the end of the book. But then again, it's hard to be mad when you don't know what's happening in a characters head. The next book, from the blurb at the end, seems to be from Cassie's POV, so that may shed some light on her as a whole.
All in all, I was happy with the book. Solid writing quality from the author. It was short without feeling like things were rushed, and it's the first romance I've read in a while from a male POV. I won't be racing out to grab the next book anytime soon, but I'll definitely be adding it to my to-read list for the future!
"Lane One: Temptation" by Justine Elvira is book one in the series about Theo and Cassie. Theo is your typical wealthy businessman who has multiple beautiful woman at his beck and call. Cassie is an overweight woman who swims everyday at his gym in lane one of the pool. When he finds himself next to her one morning while swimming she catches his eye, he doesn't understand why because she's at least a size 20 and his normal woman is around a size 8. She's obviously poor judging by her swimsuit, but yet he can't stop thinking about her; so much so that he rearranges his schedule in order to always be there at the same time. When he finds out that she works for his best friend he goes out of his way to see her as often as possible, having thoughts of getting her in his bed. Cassie is attracted to him but will she fall into the same trap as other women?
I really enjoyed getting inside of Theo's head and reading is stalker entries in his journal. I can identify with Cassie on some levels so this book had me hooked from page one, and is a series I want to finish reading. It does end with a cliffhanger, so reading the other books is a must.
I love Theo! He's one of my absolute favorite kind of "Heros". I also love the fact that this story is from his POV. (Justine has that down pretty well.) I only wish he would have made some kind of move toward Cassie earlier in the time frame. Cassie's a larger girl and is losing weight while swimming. (I don't know where her self esteem was, but I do know where mine was at my largest.) The push and pull between Theo and Cassie is palpable once they actually begin to interact with each other. Unfortunately, she works for his best friend - who told Theo to keep is hands to himself and stay away from Cassie. I know that there is still a lot to uncover about the background of these two , and I can't wait to see how Justine brings it about.
I am not a fan of serials, and was really not happy that this was one. I'd much rather have an entire book at once. However, I love Justine's writing and her characters will have me hanging around for more. This was a great beginning for whatever is to come. If you haven't already - pick it up!
This book is an awesome start to what I know will be an awesome series.
We meet Theo & Cassie, Theo, your stereo typical man whore, he’s used to getting what he wants, when he wants it so it’s no surprise he takes obsessive stalking to a whole new level when he sets his sights on Cassie.
And Cassies having none of it, she’s not your stereo typical barbie model either, she’s a little over weight, ordinary and innocent and has zero interest in Theo and let the hilarity begin because Cassie holds her own, she’s not giving in and becoming just another one of Theos conquests and of course this just drives Theo more insane.
We get funny, we get hot, we get secrets and it grabbed me at page one and I couldn’t put it down, I just wanted to know more so gaaaaahhhhhhhh the ending left me hanging and I can’t wait for part two lets see if Theo & Cassie can reach supernova on the hot-o-meter, whatever the outcome I think sparks are gonna fly!
