I grew up in a little village in a quiet corner of Alberta and my first love was reading. I loved how a simple book could teleport me for hours at a time to magical places. I loved reading and devoured books. I remember when my parents would drive to the city I would beg to be allowed to buy more than one book.
They taught me about the importance of hard work, so I put my heart and soul in every novel I write, “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right,” is what my dad always said. I took those words to heart and I am always trying to perfect my writing.
I no longer live in a little village but my love of reading has only grown, my shelves are lined with books and I have notebooks filled with ideas for novels I hope to one day write.
Outside of writing, I enjoy cosplaying, drawing, painting and spending time with friends and family.
This one took me a minute. I had to sit and just absorb everything that happened/ is happening/ could happen. In class book two fashion a lot of loose ends were tied until they were severed and we’re left watching the aftermath. The intensity of this was cranked up beyond what I expected and only continued to ramp up. I’m still in shock with how it ended and rattled I can’t jump into book three immediately!
Fantastic! This was such a great story. The world building was excellent and it flowed so smoothly. I loved this one so much more than the first one. The first one confused me a bit, but this showed the growth in the authors writing. It was beautiful, and intriguing. The story really pulled me in and kept me engrossed. Absolutely loved this one
Im blown away with the improvements in this story. The plot and fantasy elements are still as intricate and interesting as they were in book, even more so now as the world is being expanded. The writing improved leaps and bounds. Its a bit more refined and has added depth to it. I genuinely felt like it was a whole different book than the previous one. Im so glad i gave this author another chance and can't wait to see what else is in store.
Great read! Big improvement from book one, too. Very good follow on plot wise and character wise. Vibrant, messy and fun
The pacing in this book is excellent, and it hooked me fast. That’s rare.
The expansions in the worldbuilding and politics are great. I really enjoyed those.
I really don’t know what I’m talking about on this front, but the blend of modern classic fantasy feel and badass action seems like quintessential sword and sorcery
There are a few things I don’t love, but that probably stems from the whole book being a bit too fantasy for me.
Solid read. If you like fantasy, you’ll LOVE this. If you were on the fence about continuing with the series, this is your sign to keep going. You won’t regret it
This sequel took everything I loved about the first book and raised the stakes emotionally, politically, and personally in the BEST way 👀⚔️🖤
Kingdoms are fracturing. Alliances are failing. Secrets are spreading through the court like poison.
And the entire time, there’s this constant feeling that war is coming no matter what anyone does.
What really stood out to me in this book is how emotionally complicated every storyline feels. Nobody is making easy choices, and every decision seems to cost the characters something important.
Quinn’s arc especially hit hard for me.
He’s torn between loyalty to his people, the need to clear his name, and the pull of the relationships he’s built along the way. Watching him struggle between duty and personal desire made his storyline feel incredibly layered and real.
And honestly?? The political tension in this book is SO good.
The alliances feel fragile from the start, and every conversation carries this underlying fear that one wrong move could destroy everything. You can feel the instability growing chapter by chapter.
I also loved seeing Embree, Marilla, and Scion’s perspectives expand the story even further. Each of them is carrying impossible pressure in different ways, and their choices add so much emotional weight to the larger conflict.
Then there’s the mystery surrounding the court, the rumours about King Reagan, and the looming return of the Velryn 👀🔥
The deeper the characters dig into the truth, the darker and more dangerous everything becomes.
And the Being in the shadows?? Absolutely terrifying.
The pacing keeps the tension building constantly, balancing political intrigue, emotional conflict, and looming war in a way that makes it almost impossible to stop reading.
✨ If you love: • epic fantasy with multiple POVs • court intrigue and fragile alliances • emotionally driven political conflict • looming war and ancient threats • character relationships tested by impossible choices
This one is intense, emotional, and full of the kind of slow-building dread that keeps you completely hooked ⚔️🖤
