There is much for readers to love about this informative and beautifully illustrated book. Each page reveals an exciting event or part of nature while educating the audience about key details. For example, one topic covered in the book is the big bang theory. The author explains what it is, how scientists study its effects today, and what they are still learning about it. Other topics include tornadoes, stalactites, trees, the sea, and much more. This title features gorgeous full-color illustrations that provide breathtaking visuals, making it a wonderful display or gift book. It is certainly high on my list of the most beautifully illustrated books that I have read this year. The writer also includes a guided, nature meditation-style observation, which encourages readers to take deep breaths while opening their senses to see and hear the outdoors. Additionally, the audience can find a thorough index, bibliography, and further reading page to help them expand their knowledge. I feel that this book would be a wonderful bedtime read because of the soothing undertone in the language used to describe nature and the peaceful visuals. It also moves through different topics without a major connecting thread, so children need not worry about missing part of a story before falling asleep. However, it does include a few potentially “scary” topics, such as volcanoes and earthquakes, so I would recommend informing adults about these subjects before selecting it as a bedtime read.
