“Don’t fall in love with me. I ruin beautiful things.”
Love made him this way, but life makes him stay.
Life doesn’t give a redo. There’s no rewind or pause button to take you back or stop time. Once something happens, it happened. The most tragic of those times in his life, the ones he wouldn’t get back and the moments he could never fix, reminded Demyan Avdonin of a bullet meeting glass.
The impact of the bullet doesn't break the glass into pieces, but instead, leaves behind a single hole surrounded by a spider web of cracks. Fragile cracks that, when handled with the utmost care, would splinter into shards of what used to be.
Demyan thought he had been broken beyond repair once, four long years ago.
He was wrong.
She touched the glass, unknowing of the cracks holding him together. These are the broken pieces of a shattered man and the woman who made him live.
Life made him this way, but love makes him stay.

The Final Russian Guns Novel Please Shattered can be read as a standalone title in the series but Demyan & Ana should be read first for full effect. This novel contains graphic scenes of violence and sexual situations that are not intended for those under the age of 18.
The author of too many novels to count, Bethany-Kris is a Canadian, lover of much, and mother to four sons, a glaring of cats, and a pack of dogs. A small town in Eastern Canada where she was born and raised is where she has always called home. With her boys under her feet, a snuggling cat, barking dogs, and a spouse calling over his shoulder, she is nearly always writing something ... when she can find the time.
This book was absolutely wonderful. Demyan Avdonin was a shell of a man with a sweet 4 year old daughter. His world shattered 4 years ago and he was just existing in life until Claire Braden entered his life.
There is so much angst, turmoil, revenge, awakening and loving in this story. While this is Demyan’s story, there is much involvement from Anton, Vine, Ana and sweet little Vera. The Avdonin family has always been very close until the tragedy occurs that forever changes Demyan’s life. It’s heartbreaking to see the once close father and son be reduced to avoidance and tolerance. But Claire, the patient sweet nurse, sees through Demyan and knows there is more to him than what he lets on. She begins a relationship with Vera and Demyan goes ballistic. With time and patience and an unavoidable attraction, Claire and Demyan begin to feel a connection. But life in the Russian mafia isn’t for the faint of heart and revenge is a first and foremost action that Anton and Demyan must address no matter the cost.
This book was fast paced, kept my emotions constantly heightened and it was a beautiful second chance romance. There was romance, passion, heartache, brutality, sweet moments, and finally emergence from the dark. The epilogue was absolutely wonderful. Bethany-Kris ended the series with perfection. It made me smile and swoon and though this was goodbye to the Avdonin Family, I felt perfectly content.
War was declared when Liam destroyed my world. Oh he did more then shake the foundation of the man I once was, that part of me is gone, dead and buried right along side with my wife. The person I am now he should be afraid of, he's created a monster. One who craves more then any kind of vengeance or justice. Being shattered works in my favor, no one will see the jagged edges when I strike back. He'll never see retribution coming or who I'm willing to sacrifice. (Shattered) He might take you from your apartment or even the hospital. Any where you frequent, somewhere in the open to show his power and control as if it were a way to tease me.” “And he will catch me,” she whispered.
Its hard knowing this is the last of the Russian Guns as I'm hopelessly in love with all the characters. Bethany-Kris invoked so many emotions, I laughed, cried and ranted like a crazy woman on crack. I mean its really hard putting into words. Her writing and creativity is amazing; hours spent reeling in the series and its suddenly over. Ahhhhh well that's my baggage. Anyhoo, hands down five star solid read and recommended to all alpha badass lovers! Enjoy!
I knew I shouldn't of read this book b/c of how much H loved his deceased wife from the previous book.
.
I got that Claire (h) loved Demyan (H) but sadly I never completely felt his connection to her. He does express his love & has some loving thoughts about her. His actions didn't support his great love. We get a few glimpses but I needed more. The connection between them wasn't fleshed out enough. I needed more depth.
AND this totally made me say WTF: we get no response from Demyan about how he feels after rescuing Claire. No shows of affection. No disscussion of the trauma Claire went through.
Demyan knew Liam was going to catch and hurt Claire. Demyan great plan was This is why the book leaves me feeling low.
I did feel heat & passion between D/C. The sex was hot.
I felt his love for Gia in the previous book. For Claire I got some glimpses that needed more depth or expression. I can not get over his plan for killing Liam.
I loved how Demyan was a bad ass mob boss. And loved his character I just didn't always feel his connection w/ Claire. I still have more to say so will finish writing more later.
The previous book 'Demyan & Ana' completely surprised me but I wasn't sure how I'd cope with this book, it was always going to be a difficult read because Demyan is so cold, distant and closed off, alienating all those around him. While it was a difficult read, particularly early on I have to say, without giving anything away at all that it was beautifully done and I felt happy with the way it ended. Again I'm not doing a summary because I don't want to spoil anything for you and while this is the end of the 'Russian Guns' series there is -
Jersey Vignettes: A Russian Guns Novella (Ana & Koldan) - February 15th, 2016
For is to look forward to, I'm so glad we get a bit more Ana and Koldan plus we'll get to catch up with Sofia in -
"Vasin" & "Sofia", Vasin Series
My only tiny complaint with this book is that one of the characters was just a little too perfect in every way, this is such a small point but in the interests of a totally honest review I have to mention it.
#### I'm adding this to the bottom of my reviews for this series. I checked the authors page which isn't something I generally do but I wanted to know if we were getting any more Russian Guns books. On the site there's 9 mini free reads/deleted scene books from this series and one in particular 'White Sand Black Beauty' is just beautiful it takes us to the second time Anton and Viviana meet, he's eighteen and rebelling against everything and then he sees her.....
It was perfect, a fucking awesome read!! I was so hooked from the first page!! I didn't want it to end!! I loved as a character Demyan from the day he borned (from previous books) and I was so happy that he had a second chance in love because he was totally worth it!! A loyal man, a Pakhan with honour following his father steps and legacy!!! What can I say for this author.....Certainly she is one of my favourites!! She knows how to captivate you .....I have read almost all of her books.....so now I can say that I am addicted to her writing, to her tales!! I love the fact that every book of hers has a amazing end! I love the fact that every book of hers includes drugs, weapons, murders, bombs, arrange marriages (a true mafia tale) but most of all, I love the fact that each book of hers includes so much love, passion and every character of each book loves hard, forever and unconditional!! Also I remember while reading my first book of hers, I could feel the respect (from the characters) that this author has for trafficking victims and that is smth that has earned me totally!!! So.....A Huge Bravo! A MUST read for sure!!!
I was lucky to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review. ‘Shattered’ is the 5th book in the Russian Guns series. It’s a standalone but to really understand it, you have to read ’ Demyan and Ana’ it’s the premise to Shattered. As a lover of all things Russian and Mafia, this is one of my favourite series and it is a good conclusion to the series. Bethany Kris succeeded in tugging my heart strings yet again with Demyan’s story. Shattered - To cause to break or burst suddenly into pieces, as with a violent blow. Or to damage seriously; disable. It took one event to change the course of Demyan Avdonin privileged and promising life to turn him into a stone cold, Ruthless/heartless Bratva boss. His name should have been right next to the meaning of the word Shattered in the dictionary because that was what he was. To have everything you have and loved taken from you in the blink of an eye would leave a man lost to the world, save for a little glow in the dark in the person of Vera who was the sole reason he was not completely lost. He had no hope of redemption and didn’t need it. Sometimes Love, comes from the most unlikely places, warms its way into your heart melts all that cold and mends a broken soul when you least expect it. For Demyan , Vera saved him but Claire Braden brought him back. Initially, I felt like Demyan shouldn’t let what happened the first time with Liam happen again with Claire. I was deeply hurt that maybe he didn’t care enough to let her get hurt and she was just a pawn in his scheme but alas my boy had a plan .And men was it a glorious and well thought out plan .Payback/Karma is indeed a bitch. I kind of struggled with Anton taking a back seat for Demyan. He will always be the boss to me (my personal bias) but Demyan did nicely stepping into his father shoes creating a name for himself, after all he was trained by the best. I loved this book like I’ve loved the rest of the RG.I loved how strong the heroine Claire’s character was she never paled in comparism to Demyan. She stood her ground and she knew the score in the kind of life he lived. I liked how she could truly see him when everyone couldn’t and was patient with his fragile heart. I also loved catching up on the rest of the family .I only wish that I could have had more from Ana and Klodan the events leading up to their marriage and the move to Jersey. Okay I know that Sofia Vasin is a secondary character but I’ve always been intrigued by her I need some kind of back story or something on her. Well done once again for a brilliant book Bethany Kris.
"i is a big boy" we all remember that sweet little boy who was all the time watching his father. we loved him when he was born, when it was his "happy birthday" and his father wasn't there and even when anton teached him how to use a weapon. we watched him with gia ever since they were kids, until she was taken away from him. and so, a new chapter begins in demyan's life. "Shattered" started four years after gia's death, years in which demyan was not demyan, just a shadow of the boy he used to be. but all that changed when he met claire. their love story was so beautiful. they were right for each other. demyan, unlike how he was with gia, with claire was able to be himself, no pretense. their love grow slowly just as their mutual trust. my favourite scene in the book was the hotel scene. i think that was "the" scene for them. it was there where they connected the most - and yes, they had sex too. i liked liam's death - it was painful- but i hated claire suffered like that. demyan's declaration of love was the sweetest speech in the book, even if it wasn't romantic, but it was so like demyan to say it like that. The epilogue was marvelous. we get to see them after five years, and from anton's perspective. that was a good idea to end the series, to see anton one more time. i wish it wouldn't end here, i wish we could see roman avdonin too, because i bet he would be a hell of a boss. he was very much like anton, a lot of similarities between them. and since anton was absolutely perfect, roman would be too. This was an amazing serie and i'm glad i got to see the Avdonin family over those 30 years. i got an arc copy for a review. (less)
I simply cannot hide how much I truly enjoyed this series. From the characters, to the story line to the raw emotions it created.
After reading the novella Demyan and Ana I knew going into Shattered would be painful. The novella was painful already, like gut-wrenching painful. So I had to prepare myself for this book. Throughout Anton and Viviana's story when Demyan was born we saw glimpses of his personality and it was a cheeky one. He was smart for his age and he was growing up to be a trouble maker yet always a smartass, cheeky and quite laid back from what I recall in the Novella too.
But that changed after the traumatic event and when I started Shattered, Demyan was completely different to how I remembered him to be. He was nothing like his father, only a few personality traits here and there but when he's in boss mode. He was a shell of a man, keeping people and bay as well as his feelings. He was cold, an asshole, ruthless, brutal, pretty damn scary. He was so close to his family before but even they couldn't break through the shell Demyan had created around him self. Gia's death completely shattered the man he was before. The only person that got to see a glimpse of the man he once was, was Vera. His daughter. And she was a very perceptive little kid.
He had so much anger in him. And he took that anger out on all the people that cared like Anton and Vine. I felt so bad for them, and him of course because of what he went through. But Anton and Vine were his parents and they felt helpless. But I must give credit to Viviana for putting her foot down when Demyan crossed the line. I love that woman! Still strong and fierce as ever. And as for Anton, I LOVE HIM!! He was still boss, but he took a step down for reasons, but his family meant everything to him. That man, he knows how to love and care for those that matter to him and he wasn't afraid to say it like it is. I'm so glad they were such a prominent part of the story. He laid it out to Demyan when it needed to be said and done. Their relationship was truly admirable. As well as the relationship Anton had with Ana. The wedding scene, for example, the moment between Ana and Anton really had me in tears. I have to say, it's one of my favorite scenes in the series.
Now, the changing factor in Demyan's life was Claire. Slowly, I read how Demyan's mind set was changing. And everything he thought he hid well was slowly making an appearance. Claire got under his skin, she made him feel and I am grateful for that! Claire was such a bold character. She was insanely brave, and also had the i-won't-take-your-crap attitude. She did not once try to replace Gia and instead tried to make Demyan comfortable enough to speak about her openly. She never hid behind Demyan but she stood beside him, fiercely and determined. I just loved how their relationship progressed. It wasn't forced, but slowly they learned to trust each other. They had such great chemistry and always brought the best out in each other. Also, One thing that I really liked was how Gia wasn't shone out of their lives. Demyan recognized the faults in her but he never down played his love for her. He simply said it was a different kind of love. Now that was important to realize!
Once again, I just want to say how much I truly, truly enjoyed everything about this. The first half of the book was more Claire and Demyan's growth in character and relationship. And then the second half is when shit get's dirty. The second half is where everything turns messy and you realize how much of a disgusting monster Liam Dolan was.
The epilogue was so bittersweet. I was in tears, but I'd say they were happy tears to be honest. It was in Anton's perspective and I thought that was the perfect way to end. Him and his family. Things started off because of him, and it ended with him too and it tied everything up beautifully. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a Mafia/mob related book with great aspects of family, Love, drama, action, mystery thriller. For me, personally it had all those factors and I can see myself rereading this again in the future.
Honest to god, each book that I read by this author is somehow better than the last - and that's saying something because it starts off really fucking good. I am very, very sad to see this series end. It somehow crept up on me, and I'm really glad it did.
The first half of the book is quite uneventful, and I was wondering why I was even reading it, but then BAM! I'm not going to say any more than that. Having read all of her Mafia books, I think I can honestly say Demyan is the strongest of them all - but then again, you can't really compare them because of their circumstances and everything else.
I was a lucky girl who received an ARC and this review is bittersweet.
Shattered was beautifully written and I was on book high after I read the last page. Claire was the right person to break through Demyan. And the best mother for Vera to have. She was their sunshine.
Did I feel it was the end? For an ordinary reader's persepctive, it was. Everything was perfect! I couldn't argue with that. But! I'm not an ordinary reader. I'm an Avdonin fan. They became my favorite the first time I read The Arrangement so it's really hard to accept that Shattered is the final book. I don't want to say goodbye to them. I'm still hopeful!
As for Bethany-Kris, need I say more? She writes awesome stories. She is one of the best indie authors I found in this book world of ours. And I won't let her stop writing them!
"We’re all monsters, sweetheart. Some of us just hide it better than others.” ~ Anton
Although the book was well-written, I couldn't connect to the main characters. Why? Because the author had put so much emphasis on this amazing connection between Demyan and Gia - something they've shared since before they can even remember. But in this final book, all of a sudden I'm supposed to believe that it really wasn't such a strong connection because he only feels that with Claire?? I have loved the previous books but I really wish I hadn't read this one. I didn't like Claire at all. And when she went to Gia's grave and started sprouting off about how Demyan now sees Gia for what she really was (which is not perfect) and that she (Claire) is the perfect one for Demyan so ha ha! Okay....so she didn't say it like that but that's how it came across to me. It just made me hate Claire even more. So very disappointed with the way the series ended. I should have just stopped at the end of book 3. At least then I wouldn't be so fucking mad!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Not sure how I felt, i do Know it took me awhile to get through this because i sometimes struggle with BK writing style, i just couldn't really connect with either MC.
Like Father. Like Son. I was given an ARC for an honest review Shattered is brilliant, sexy and so much more. In order for you to truly enjoy this novel read the novella Demyan and Ana.
Claire + Demyan= Emotional Rollercoaster Demyan has had a rough couple years ever since the love of his life was killed in retaliation for taking revenge on those who hurt his family. He has been raising his daughter, Vera, on his own for the past four years. The Demyan his family knows no longer appears; his heart has been hardened. Demyan shows you what he wants you see, even if he doesn't show his affection openly to his daughter, Vera, who he loves her more than anything . Showing your emotions especially your Achilles heel to your enemies will cost you more than you can imagine and Demyan knows firsthand. Until one day this woman that his daughter takes a liking to makes him feel something reawakens parts of the old Demyan slowly makes its way back.
But the past returns, an old enemy resurfaces.
There's explosions and Anton (of course) and much more.
This book was amazing and your in for a wild ride. Even though this can be read as a standalone, I recommend you read the Russian Guns Series from the beginning to get the full experience.
Shattered is everything that I expected it to be and sooo much more. After having read Vivianna and Anton's story, I would have never thought that any other couple would be able to match up to their level of chemistry but Demyan and Claire certainly do not disappoint...
After Gia's death, Demyan is left completely alone to take care of his little girl Vera. He withdraws into himself since he blames himself for the death of the love of his life. Claire's entry into his life is abrupt and leaves him confused since he cannot help but be attracted to this quiet beauty who leaves him breathless.
Claire and Demyan's story is about second chances in life but most importantly, this story shows us that it is possible for one to love again. I really loved Claire and Demyan's unexpected chemistry, how sparks fly when they're together.
Shattered is the perfect end for the Russian Guns series and I've got to admit that I loved each and every one of the books in the series. It is one of the best mafia romances that I've the opportunity to read!!!!
Please read Demyan and Ana by Bethany-Kris prior to Shattered.
Demyan is living a life he thought he always wanted as a mafia prince. However, now he isn't really living life just existing. He is shattered. After tragedy, his defense is to cut out all people who care about him. He is going through the motions. He hides behind his life of crime. The only sense of humanity in him is his feelings for his daughter, Vera. Then he meets Claire. Claire refuses to allow him to hide. She is in his face forcing him to see her...to see life continues after tragedy. Can Claire help Demyan put back the pieces of his shattered life? Does he want to be whole again? I waited on bated breath for the continuation of Demyan's story. Bethany-Kris takes a tragic love story from Demyan and Ana and puts a complete twist on it. I enjoyed every page. The moments of Demyan's shattered soul are heartbreaking. Thank you, Bethany-Kris. The Russian Guns series is a uniquely wonderful series. I recommend it to all readers who enjoy romance with suspense.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book. I am a huge fan of this series and this book did not disappoint. Demyan is cold and ruthless. Which was fun to read. His interactions with Vera though, She is his world and it's amazing to see it. I would recommend this series to anyone. All 5 were great reads. This book is one of my favorites. The epilogue was perfection. I really enjoyed reading that. One slight criticism that I had was that I wish there was more Ana and Kolden in it. I expressed this to the author and she told me that there is an Ana/Kolden piece that she is writing for charity. I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that. I'm not ready to leave the Avdonin family, so to hear that we get another piece makes me very happy. Thank you Bethany-Kris for another installment. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next.
Received an arc of shattered, girls you don't want to miss this when it's released, brilliant book by Bethany Kris last one in the series, loved Demyan sad for it to end but looking forward to Bethany's next adventure in the mafia world x
I prefer Anton's story. This was little boring, less action, heroine like Mother teresa. Loved the daughter and Koldan. Most important, the connection was missing, when did they fall in love I did not realise only. With Anton my god it was so amazing. The feelings were crazy.
This was an emotional read. Demyan went through a hellacious ordeal but the character journey he goes through was an amazing read. I felt for him in so many ways and I'm so glad he finally found happiness.
I am so sad that this is the last book in this series. I have loved every book, but this has to be my favorite. I just couldn't put it down. I hope this writer will come out with more of this type of genre. I would highly recommend her books.
Demeyan is a shattered soul especially after what he's been through! Life breaks us and brings us back to life .... sometimes things aren't always how they seem!!! Amazing book, amazing series!!!!
I haven't read a tactical Bethany-Kris novel in a while. I loved the mafia aspects and I was just starting to pay more attention to the romance element when it ended.
There was a lot of "you were thinking it, but you said it" moments, which is understandable because it was either that or the usual, 'I am an asshole and I wanna love you but I am still pining after my dead fiance and mother of my child.' I preferred the former.
I also love when I am right and though we didn't dive too deep into the friendship lost and where it broke, I liked that we didn't ghost the issue of Gia's death and how it impacted the relationship between the Avdonin and Larvov family. Because, even though we never really got to know her, she was clearly a BIG part of Demyan's life. If anything, I wish we got to understand their relationship more because try as they might, there was essentially a lot of Gia bashing from every one in this novel. Ivan included.
I love Claire. I love Demyan. I love Claire and Demyan together but all I know of their personalities is from Demyan as a child and what little he showed in the prequel. I also know that Claire tries to fly under the radar, really loves children and would love to save or free as much trafficked persons as possible. They work as a couple, we just didn't get to see or enjoy them as one. Their intimate moments were more like moments of healing so the usual first dates and childhood tales weren't discussed in front of us.
It was strange seeing a not only grown but cold Demyan. I keep remembering the little boy with Rocco by his feet. While I didn't mind, I missed that carefree part of his personality even though his and probably everyone's conversation in this novel with Anton were the best parts. Them discussing sex was more interesting than the sex itself. Sorry.
Vera is equal parts cute and hilarious. She was the line and glue that joined and held the characters of this novel together and whenever she opened her mouth, you were sure to be entertained.
In spite of all this, I believe the best chapter in this novel was the epilogue. I can't think of a better wrap on Little Odessa and the Avdonin clan. Anton Avdonin is rivaled by none in this series.
Health scares, death and the ushering of a new generation. A quiet but violent story on revenge, love, life and family. This novel was more than Demyan, Claire and revenge for Gia. It was the conclusion and future update fans needed.
After the devastating ending of the previous book with Gia’s tragic death, it begins with a Demyan who is different than before. Iced in the inside and cold on the outside, the only person with whom he lets his facade fail a bit is his daughter Vera, who is now 4 years old. His relationship with his father Anton, formerly one close and confining, now is more one from Pahkan-soldier. Demyan doesn’t want to experience again the pain of losing a loved one to his enemies, so he keeps everyone at arm’s length all the time. The surprise that awaits him comes from Claire, the step niece of the man who took everything from him and the half sister of the man who raped his sister Ana. Claire looks for the Avdonins to find out what happened to her brother Cavan, she feels guilty by his actions since similar things had happened in Detroit, especially to one of her best friends and she feels that if she had acted before he could be stop before. Anton and Viviana don’t blame her and want her to be a part of the revenge plan against Liam. Viviana has also let her spend time secretly with Vera, but when Demyan finds out about this and her true identity, he really gets angry with his whole family, he feels betrayed. But Vera has already grown fond of Claire, so he decides to allow her daughter to spend time with her. At the same time he begins to know her better and to feel attracted to her, a feeling with which he tries to fight but ends up failing. His relationship with Claire is very different from the one she had with Gia. Gia didn’t approve of his life with the Bratva and they live in a kind of a bubble while Claire accepts him as he is, both the good and the bad in all aspects on his life. A perfect ending for this family that begins with the love story of Anton and Viviana and that they ended up as grandparents of 5 children. Although in this book Anton gives us quite a health scare, which is why Demyan takes his place as Pahkan. This book will shatter your heart and put it back together.
I always read something before the 'Russian Guns', but when I saw the blurb to "The Agreement" I just had to read the parents (Demyan and Claire's) book.
Hero - Demyan, oh my gosh!!! Our H, lost someone so important to him, which led him to become cold and emotionless. He kept everyone at arms length. But the relationship he had with his daughter, just brought tears to your eyes. They both had there own understanding that no one knew or saw.
Heroine - Claire, was a kickass heroine, who saw beneath the cold-hard exterior our H, had going on. She made him see, that he was worth loving.
My views - Oh man did I love this one. Bethany Kris, definitely has a way to make you love every damn H. The chemistry between the H and h was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. And the love he had for his daughter was so beautiful.
Good end to the second set of books in the series.
*Spoilers*
I'm glad that things worked out how they did but MAN did she break my heart a million times over.
BORRIS!!! Really?!
And the whole last chapter I was scared that either Anton or Vine were going to die horribly and suddenly. She really knows how to keep you on your toes! I wish there had been a bit more Koldan and Ana focused chapters but I get she wanted to focus on Demyan. I will definitely re read these in the future. She knows how to play the long game with hidden tidbits here and there.
