Running into an ex-boyfriend can be murder... Avery Barks, a volunteer search and rescue dog trainer is asked to assist on a search for a lost person and she readily agrees to help. But the victim's dysfunctional family causes quite a distraction to the search efforts and may cause the loss of life. When Avery discovers a body lying on the road, the connection between the deceased and her ex-boyfriend Travis becomes a little too close for comfort and Travis quickly becomes the prime suspect. Avery is convinced he's done nothing wrong, but convincing everyone else may be a little more difficult. Lucky for them, the local residents love her playful golden retriever, Chevy, because she'll have to count on their love for her dog to help her solve the murder and possibly save lives. Play Fetch is a standalone book in Mary Hiker's popular Avery Barks cozy mystery series. With fun characters, lots of twists and turns, and lovable dogs, it's easy to see why people enjoy these books. Amazon Reviews About Mary Hiker "Always enjoy a Mary Hiker story." Couldn't put it down!

Great dog short story. I even love the cover picture. The authors previous stories read just as well. I'm definitely following Avery Barks.

Avery Barks, a search and rescue dog trainer joins the search for a missing man, is charmed by an 8 year old girl who loves dogs, and finds the body of a woman who turns out to be the wife of her old boyfriend. There’s a lot going on in PLAY FETCH in the 90 to 120 minutes it requires to take in the narrative that author Mary Hiker has sandwiched into eleven concise chapters.

This quick read will never be in contention for a Pulitzer or be made into a movie by MGM but the Hallmark channel might be inclined to option it for one of their two hour murder mysteries. This read is an okay way to kill (no pun intended) a couple of hours on a lazy afternoon.

Avery and Chevy save the day, again. Both are, of course, delightful characters. The new little tyke, Anna, had important parts in this story and was fun to see her playing with Chevy.

Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Haunting. Page-turner. Scary. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

Not bad

It was a strange story. It felt a bit rushed at times, and I wouldn't really call it a Cozy mystery story. Avery seemed to lurch from one dilemma to the next.
But I enjoyed the interaction between Avery and her dog, Chevy, and between Don and his dog Ace. And I enjoyed the ending too.

Love this series!

Dogs, murder mysteries, likable characters, interesting plots and more dogs, what's not to love? I really like learning more about search and rescue dogs and I love the location, which I am familiar with. A quick and easy read. Thank you Ms Hiker once again!

Ok story but so very short that neither the murder mystery nor personal relationships really get flushed out. It all seems very quick and superficial; even another 50 pages would allow more details for the author to provide.

Excellent book

Excellent book. Surprise twists, Chevy is a fun dog, his owner has good instincts solving mysteries. I like how she connects everything together

Short but good

I hope for me this isn't the newest thing books you can read in under half an hour. I personally like longer books. I the was good though.

I like these quick and fun reads in this series. No really gruesome scenes, no expletives just some fun and of course --Chevy the dog. I am a sucker for a dog story and mystery rolled up into one. What better way to pass the afternoon.

Good but short

I enjoy but am bothered by this series. Although mystery is always solved in an interesting way it ends abruptly each time. With each book only about 80 pages I suggest you join kindle unlimited for a free month and just read them all free

Quick fun read. Dogs, mystery and no blood and mayhem, well except for the dead person. But they always die without a lot of gore so that’s ok
