Are you really alive—or just very committed to the part? Welcome to a cheerfully grim little manual for the “recently deceased,” a black-humored guide that treats modern life like a prank worth laughing at.
Through mock interviews with the dead, absurdly practical “tips for a happy death,” and sharp, compassionate observations about fear, habit, and joy, this book holds up a mirror to the living—without moralizing or melodrama. Warm, witty, and surprisingly uplifting, it uses dark comedy to reveal what matters most, offering gentle, laugh-out-loud insights that stay with you. Equal parts fake handbook, philosophical prank, and feel-good riff, it won’t tell you how to live—but it might just convince you to enjoy the role you’ve been cast in.
Perfect for those who enjoy: - Clever satire - Uplifting books - Dark Humour / Dark Humor (or Black Humour / Black Humour depending on your location)
Diam Consta was born in Athens and being genuinely attracted to a wide range of disciplines he was able, from an early age, to build relationships with a diverse group of people and be exposed to divergent viewpoints, which well suited his personality of openness, acceptance and an incessant thirst for the “different”.
From the age of 16 he started traveling abroad, as much as he could. After completing his Design studies in Greece, he moved to France to study French literature. Four years later he relocated to London to begin his career in finance. His creative spirit remained alive regardless of his employment environment, participating in painting and photography exhibitions (solo & collective) and continued to travel within Europe, in Asia, North Africa, the United States and Central America.
He started writing more than 15 years ago, initially in Greek and French and then exclusively in English. All his books to date are fiction with almost half of them being poetry and the other half novels. His literary work is focused primarily on allegories and symbolism with as much humor thrown in the mix as possible. He uses an unassuming writing style, suitable for all ages, making a deliberate effort to help the reader be transported to reality-altering fictional situations, whilst emphasizing the dominant role emotions play in all aspects of life.
Book Review: Getting Better at Being Dead by Diam Consta
I jumped at this opportunity to read this unique novel by Diam Consta. It blends dark humor with deep philosophical ideas about life and death. The book encourages readers to reflect on the meaning of living while exploring how people cope with mortality and emotional struggles. Lawrd knows I struggle.🙌🏻
One of the most interesting aspects of the book is its use of dark comedy. Which I’m absolutely fascinated with!!! Instead of treating death only as something tragic, the author presents it with irony and wit. This approach makes difficult topics like trauma, identity, and emotional numbness easier to think about while still keeping the reader engaged.
The story focuses more on the characters thoughts and experiences rather than a traditional plot. Through their challenges and reflections, the book shows how people sometimes move through life feeling disconnected or lost…. Think he wrote a story about me 🤭… By facing these feelings and confronting the idea of death, the characters begin to understand themselves and their lives more clearly. Overall, Getting Better at Being Dead is a thoughtful and unconventional novel. While its darker tone and philosophical themes may not appeal to every reader, it offers an interesting perspective on mortality and the importance of living authentically. Readers who enjoy reflective and darkly humorous stories may find the book both intriguing and meaningful like I did!! I look forward to seeing what Diam Consta writes in the future!!🖤

Absolutely hilarious...the title, the chapters, the hints and tips, the interviews...couldn't stop laughing. I seem to remember the description saying something like "for those who like to laugh and then wonder if they should have laughed about it!"...just terrific! It stays very true to the spirit of Monty Pythons, Blackadder and the likes but it's not farcical or overly intellectual. I think that the best element of this book is that it describes the negatives of modern life without "giving advice" or "preaching". It's going to surprise a lot of people, in a very pleasant way, I think. Massively recommended!!!
P.S. Autre chose magnifique…les titres des chapitres…super...vraiment super...j’adore cet humour !
It really goes to show how much humour books (especial the Dark humour ones), make you think. I totally loved the spirit and writing of this one. Very light-hearted, extremely funny (especially the "hints and tips" and the interview with a dog....hahaha, amazing, just hilarious) and incredibly positive. It is so refreshing to read a book that makes you laugh and emphasises on a "keep it together" spirit, instead of cliches. Yet another Consta book, I really loved. You should certainly give it a try, dark humour at its best!!!
