But first Milliner must solve the mystery at the Kingston house, where Liz Goldfine may have committed a heinous crime, and the dark depths of the lake harbor teenage secrets.

Timothy James Brearton lives in the Adirondack Mountains with his wife and three children. He's loved thrillers and police stories for most of his life. HABIT follows broken cop Brendan Healy down the rabbit hole of a human trafficking conspiracy. DEAD GONE delivers Florida cop Tom Lange into a criminal underworld and THE KILLING TIME introduces FBI agent Shannon Ames, a country girl in the big city.
This book claims to be a suspense thriller you won’t be able to put down. That’s a lie. I got to the halfway mark and couldn’t bear to pick it up again. It is just so incredibly tedious. The writing is incredibly long winded, going all around the houses to get to the point. A suspense thriller with a huge dose of the supernatural should make you feel you dare not go to sleep at night. This one actually put me to sleep.
T.J. Brearton has a way with words and writes great, true to life, chilling suspense books. But for my tastes, Highwater is my favorite Brearton novel. It is original and unpredictable, compelling and gripping, and the characters are unforgettable as well as magnetic. I could not wait to find out the ending because I really cared about them.
The supernatural elements add magic and intrigue. And finally, the atmospheric mystery is woven into the fabric of the story so well that I got goosebumps sometimes, and felt warm all over at others.
Well I read the other reviews and they said if you like Stephen King, this book is for you. And I bought it and read it anyway. It was good but disturbing. Some current issues like fracking were interesting, but you have to be in the mood to read books like this. I watch weird shows like Grimm so monsters are not new to me but the one in this story was really really weird.
There was a time when I couldn't put it down as the cover states. I have to change to light reading after a story like this because I was so disturbed. READ All the reviews before purchasing. Good but scary.
There's this cop name Thomas who's investigating Elizabeth and Chris who had a child together and his name is Caleb. They start seeing things and hearing voices also Elizabeth's boyfriend Jared goes crazy.
I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this book when I initially got it (it was free) but found that I was drawn into it very quickly. A very enjoyable and engaging read!
I have liked everything that I have read by him and I really enjoyed this one it is really different and I found myself really feeling invested in the characters
This isn't the type of book I typically read...and if I do, I become disinterested after the first few chapters. I was pleasantly surprised by this book, and it was actually difficult to put down! This was a well-written, intriguing story, and I enjoyed it very much. And allow me to be a nerd for a moment and mention that the editing was superb (very hard to find anymore in e-books).
This is a supernatural story mixed with some sci-fi essence, and it is really good. A beast, a baby, fire, and flood not to mention the interesting characters make up an intense tale that is woven around life, death, and God. Excellent!
This one just didn't hit the mark for me. The story was ....interesting, but seemed to go nowhere. I found there to be too many POVs and everything was very fragmented. I just expected a horror/ thriller to be , well, horrific and thrilling. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this was neither.
I can’t even put into words how bad I found this book to be. Throughout the whole story I never really figured out what the authors point actually was and in the end the book just left me utterly confused. I literally had to force myself to keep reading it; I only finished it because for some reason I really don’t like not finishing a book - and maybe because I had some unrealistic hope that when I finish it I wouldn’t be quite as confused anymore... I was wrong, it just got worse. That really was a waste of time.
I'm not sure how to rate this. I like horror, I like mystery, I like most. I just know what this book is. It rambled on, jumped all over the place. That works for some books, it didn't for this one. 20 something "boys"? A 3 year old "baby"? Was there a plot? When did Tom's story end? After his death or after his conversation with a grown Caleb? I for one will never re-read this, it was painful enough the first time.
I didn't get this book. I thought it was about good vs evil but how knows. It was switching from different peoples points a view. There was a boy who was supposedly miscarried but instead he was given to other people only for his DNA to be that of his original parents. Then there was this evil in the lake that had been there since the being of time. It was controlling people and trying to get out. Just crazy!! I kept reading it just to finish and I am glad I finished.
This book was really odd and strange but really good at the same time. I am still now sure i understand what the ending means. You really have to pay attention, there are so many small things going on in the book and the story jumps from person to person, but I still enjoyed it and found the book to be good. It follows a cop who is in the middle of things and a woman who lost a baby along time ago and has alot of wierd things happen all in a small amount of time. Really good read.,
This book reminded me somewhat of Stephen King's Tommyknockers. An equally implausible plot bordering on the edge of reason. Even so, a interesting read. The suspense builds to a satisfying conclusion. This book is not for everyone but for those who enjoy the genre, it is time well spent.
It is a fast read, and for some reason I had to keep reading. Can't say it was especially rewarding to read, but a good vs evil sort of diversion. Will I read more by this author? Maybe.
