Silent Heir: A Dark College Romance

Rate this book

She comes for justice. He gives her nowhere to hide.

Rowan arrives carrying old violence in her body and one purpose in her mind: make the men tied to her sister’s death answer for what they did. She’s guarded, scarred, and done waiting for the world to do the right thing. Justin lives inside a darker kind of justice, where control is everything and mercy rarely survives the truth, but the moment Rowan steps into his orbit, obsession takes hold.

As the past claws its way back into the present, their connection shifts from suspicion to fixation, from raw physical tension to something far more dangerous because it starts to matter. Rowan has to face the men who shattered her life, along with the guilt and grief that have shaped every choice since. Justin is pulled deeper into her rage, her restraint, and the parts of her most people would rather not see.

Rowan grows from a woman driven by survivor’s guilt, rage, and the need to expose what was done to her sister into someone who still holds onto her fury while letting herself want trust, desire, and a future beyond vengeance. Justin grows from a man who knows how to control violence but not how to live beyond it into someone who learns that devotion, restraint, and emotional presence matter just as much as force. Their relationship evolves from suspicion and obsession into a bond built on choice, protection, sexual trust, and hard-won intimacy.

A dark, ultra-steamy romantic suspense story about a scarred woman turning trauma into purpose and a morally gray protector learning that devotion means more than force. As grief demands truth, they build trust, intimacy, and something real while confronting the violence, corruption, and power that shaped them.

The Elevator Pitch: A scarred young woman returns to the place that helped bury her sister’s death, determined to force the truth into the open no matter what it costs. The man who steps into her path belongs to a darker kind of justice, and what begins as suspicion turns into an obsession neither of them can contain. As old violence rises and power closes ranks, they’re pulled into a connection fierce enough to threaten everything they thought kept them alive.

Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥 Ultra-Steamy / Erotic Romance

I am so very happy Justin finally gets his HEA 🖤 My heart broke for him in Creeping Lily. He deserves this happiness with Rowen. Gah! Rowan deserves her happiness with Justin 🖤 Silent Heir is gripping, heart wrenching, dramatic, action filled, empowering, violent, spicy, and loving. It grounded me, pulled me apart, drug me through the whole gamut of feelings, some I was not prepared for—I remain nonetheless. Silent Heir left raw edges scattered throughout my chest. They will take time to smooth and fill. This is one of the ones I’ll revisit, reread. *** Recommended ***

I love Iris's style of writing, the words just flow onto the page seemingly with ease. Poignant, addictive, engaging stories that have strong females, and protective men who stand with their women, possesive without being too dominant.
Silent Heir is no different, Rowan is a college student, quiet, unassuming, but underneath she is fighting to get answers , and justice for destroying her whole family ten years prior. To find the three men responsible. She comes across Goliath a vigilante secret organisation that is also looking for answers, trying to find out who has come across them, nobody should know who they are, or who they are. Justin inherited Goliath, amd Rowan has now got his attention.
So much going on, I was gripped, couldn't put it down , searching for answers. Twists and turns leading to Rowan becoming unstoppable, meeting the Goliath team and becoming part of a new family.
Justin is a perfect man for Rowan, strong, protective, yet dangerous when needed. He gives her the answers and jsutice she deserves, stepping up for her when needed.
I was sad to reach the end, but glad everyone at Goliath was happy. After reading Lily's story previously this was the cherry onn the top for Justin, now hoping for Silas's hea.
Briilliant author who keeps you hooked in whatever story she writes!.

I honestly didn't know what to expect from this book when I began my journey into Rowan and Justin's world. Iris Cannon does a great job with character development and the reader starts to learn pretty quickly who Rowan and Justin are....who they TRULY are.

Rowan is anonymous, and has pretty much felt that way since her sister was murdered. Rowan was just 12 years old, but 10 years later, it still consumes her life.

Justin is the head of Goliath - a secret organization geared toward justice - albeit vigilante justice at times.

When Rowan poisons one of her sister's attackers, Justin gets involved. I would say this is inevitable since they are absolutely destined to be together!!!

This book contains romance, friendship, drama, and heartbreak, just to name a few things. But I promise there is a HEA ending and you will fall in love with all of these characters just like I did!!

This is a dark, haunting, and deeply emotional story that lingers long after the last page. This is not just a dark college romance. It’s a raw exploration of grief, survivor’s guilt, justice, and the fragile hope that love can offer in the aftermath of trauma. Iris T. Cannon has a way of writing emotion that should honestly be studied. You don’t just read what the characters feel; you experience it with them. Her darkness never feels exaggerated or fictional; it feels real, grounded, and painfully human. She always makes me cry… even when there’s a happy ending. And this book absolutely wrecked me in the best way.
Having read Creeping Lily, I was already familiar with this world of survivors reclaiming their stories. In Silent Heir, the focus shifts to survivor’s guilt; the devastating weight of living when someone you love didn’t. Rowan has carried that burden for ten years. Ten years of grief, anger, and quiet emotional paralysis. She doesn’t believe in systems or justice anymore, and after everything she’s endured, it’s hard to blame her. She’s determined to seek accountability on her own, even if it destroys her.
Justin Collins, now the head of Goliath, steps back into the story with quiet intensity. He isn’t a traditional hero. He’s controlled, disciplined, and capable of great violence, but he keeps it leashed. What makes him compelling is how he shows up for Rowan. He listens. He protects without suffocating. He respects her space and her pain. He becomes her anchor and safe refuge, the one person who doesn’t look away from her scars but sees them fully. He’s not a knight in shining armor, more like a knight in restrained, dark armor. Maybe not a good man in the traditional sense, but the kind of man a broken world sometimes needs.
The emotional themes run deep: secondhand trauma, grief, atonement, justice, and the way loss can freeze a life in place. This isn’t a typical love story. It’s painful, heavy, and at times devastating. Even the HEA feels a little bittersweet because of everything it took to get there. The road to justice is filled with shocking truths and difficult choices, and the emotional payoff is hard-earned.
It was also powerful to see familiar faces again: Lily, stronger and fiercer than ever, along with Titan, Bethany, and Silas. This world continues to explore what happens when systems fail and when powerful people escape consequences. It makes you wonder whether a real-life “Goliath” is something we all secretly wish existed.
At its core, Silent Heir is a story about survival and the kind of love that doesn’t fix everything but makes survival possible. The kind of love that steadies you, grounds you, and reminds you that you’re not alone in carrying the weight.
I loved this book... truly, deeply loved it. Iris T. Cannon’s stories feel like fresh air in a chaotic world, even when they hurt. And this one hurt in the most meaningful way.

Rowan Hale has spent a decade haunted by grief that festers, anger that simmers, and a soul caught in the slow suffocation of survivor’s guilt. Justice is a hollow promise to her, something that failed her when she needed it most. And after everything she’s suffered, it’s hard to argue otherwise. So, she stops believing in systems, in mercy, in redemption. Instead, she becomes something quieter, more dangerous—a reckoning. If the world refuses to punish the guilty, she will do it on her own terms, even if it costs her what little remains of herself. Justin Collins enters like a shadow cast too close to the flame. Now the head of Goliath, a secret organization that thrives in the spaces where justice collapses, he is a man carved from control and restraint. When tasked with investigating an incident on campus, circumstances lead him straight to Rowan. From the moment he sees her, something shifts; something inevitable, almost fatalistic. He watches and follows her, trying to figure out who she really is. However, Rowan gives him nothing. But while Rowan sees only ruin, Justin sees something fierce. A strength she thinks died long ago. Justin is not a savior. He’s not soft, not gentle in the ways stories like to pretend. He is disciplined, lethal when necessary, and always holding violence just beneath the surface like a controlled burn. But with Rowan, he becomes something else, something steadier. He doesn’t try to fix her. He doesn’t demand her healing. Instead, he stands beside her in the darkness, unflinching. He listens. He protects without caging. He understands that love, for someone like Rowan, is not light, it’s shelter. It’s choosing to stay when everything else has already left. This story lingers in the space where justice fails and power goes unchecked, asking a dangerous question: when the system breaks, who has the right to become the consequence? It makes you wonder if something like Goliath is not just a fantasy, but a quiet, collective wish. At its core, Silent Heir is not about saving someone. It’s about surviving with them. About a love that does not heal wounds, but learns how to hold them. The kind of love that steadies shaking hands, that anchors you when the past threatens to pull you under, a love that whispers you are not alone in the dark. It’s gripping and brutal, tender and unrelenting. A story soaked in grief, laced with violence, and threaded through with a romance that burns low and deep rather than bright and easy. This is not a love story that offers comfort without cost. It’s heavy. It’s painful. And even its hard-won ending carries the weight of everything sacrificed to reach it. But that’s what makes it beautiful. Because somehow, against the odds, it still finds a way to endure.

A Melancholy Hum Beneath Every Line

This book pulled me in by its moody, lyrical tone and the way it blurs the line between justice and something far darker. From the very first pages, it felt like a story that wanted to be felt as much as read.

My favorite quotes:
So I end up at the Slay Pen. A world outside the world. A place that exists because people like to pretend monsters don't need somewhere to breathe. Masks hide faces. Money hides sins. The rule is simple -pay enough, and nothing is off-limits.

But none of it matters, because time is a debit collector I don't negotiate with.

I want history rewritten with a black marker so thick it bleeds through the page.

"Bad things happen to good people in the dark."

What it is about:
Justin Collins is the new leader of the secret organization Goliath, whose dangerous legacy comes under threat when reporter Rowan Hale starts exposing its secrets. Disillusioned by a justice system that failed her, Rowan hunts the guilty on her own terms—until crossing paths with Justin pulls her into a world of obsession, shifting power, and dark intimacy. As secrets unravel, she learns he’s not the villain she expected but a man willing to burn the world with her.

What I loved:
📝the quotes prior to each part, especially in part 1"When justice fails, something darker takes its place. And when justice won't come, someone has to bring it."
✍️amazing writing style, very smooth reading, even poetic at times
🦸the vigilante-themed storyline
😏I felt the hum throughout the book, a flavor of melancholy... or revenge?
✅how the words ring through, example "We've spent years teaching people that justice is slow, selective, and negotiable. That harm is contextual. That consequences depend on status."

What I struggled with:
some elements were inconsistent:
🟰she supposedly has OCD -does certain things in threes - but then, no mention anymore 🤷‍♀️
🤔she has visible bruises from being choked, but no mention of her voice being hoarse
❓how did she get sexually experienced, if she made every effort to remain invisible

Holy darkness Batman! This book was crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzyy. I believe it’s the continuation of Creeping Lily which is another dark romance by Iris T Cannon.

In this crazy train of a story we meet Justin and Rowan.

Rowan is a college student at St Augustine’s University. Home of the predators who’s action get swept under the rug because money buys power but also silence. Her life has been a tragic wave of loss, one after another. Her older sister was brutally attacked and murdered, her mother drank herself, literally to death and then her dad left because he couldn’t handle life. Leaving Rowan alone in the world as a teenager to figure out that she only has herself to count on.

Justin has taken over running Goliath, a company that “handles” problems for the universities but also helps families in the aftermath of those problems. The weight has become a living, breathing thing for him lately and he is tired of the drama. Until his path crosses with Rowan and now he can’t bring himself to watch from a distance. He is obsessed with this girl who tries so hard to be invisible while taking her own brand of justice out of the people who killed her sister.

This was a very hard story to get through due to the trauma Rowan endures. Please read the trigger warnings. Not only is it spicy but it’s dark. The content around her sisters death is violent. Includes rape, torture, murder, rage and drugging.

Iris T Cannon is one of my favorite authors and I love digging into her stories. They capture you from the start with mischievous behavior, longing and lust. The characters feel like someone you know and have been a friend of your whole life. It’s easy to get lost in the world she builds and it sucks when it’s over.

If you like dark romances start with Creeping Lily then read this one. They are amazing and while this one is technically a college romance there isn’t a lot that happens in a classroom or on campus. The book is not centered on the atmosphere of school but rather what happens when no one is watching.

📝 Short Summary
Silent Heir by Iris T. Cannon is not an easy story, it is one that gets under your skin.
At the center of the story is Rowan, who has lost something unimaginable. She survived while others did not. That fact alone is eating her alive. Guilt follows her constantly, memories resurface without warning, and her past feels alive and threatening. Her inner struggle is so vivid that you can almost feel it yourself while reading.
Then she meets Justin. By chance, yet somehow it feels like fate. There is an immediate spark between them, but it goes deeper than attraction. He does not just see the broken woman she believes herself to be. He sees her strength, even though she lost sight of it long ago.
Together they are pulled into a whirlwind of growing closeness, rising love, and the unavoidable confrontation with old wounds. The big question lingers throughout the entire book. Will he fight for her? Or will she find the strength within herself to face her demons?
This book is raw, dramatic, and emotionally deep. Not a simple love story, but a story about loss, courage, and how love does not save you, it stands beside you.

{criminal Minds meets romance; M/F;dual-pov; explicit}

Rowan, the FMC, is in law school, and she is quite persistent in finding truths.
“ No-one even looks at me. Either they’re too high or I’m too ugly, I surmise. Both prospects delight me.” Rowan is a vigilante, and she writes an expressive diatribe on the need for vigilantes when politics fails. Her scars gives us clues that Rowan was attacked and feels the need for justice. I root for her sometimes. “... history shows us one thing very clearly: once people stop believing in the system, they don’t ask permission to replace it.” How you cope with grief after trauma ? For Rowan, she stalks her abusers in search of justice.

Her antics cause Justin, the leader of a secret vigilante organization, to investigate. He is worried that Goliath, his company, is being targeted, and he finds Rowan after some investigation. Their banter can be delicious:
“I want to know why you’re here,” I say, honest enough to be dangerous.
“Congratulations,” she replies. “You still don’t.”

The plot stalled for a while as the romance gained focus. Each main character spent time explaining how the other felt, and I am no fan of that popular writing style. But the ending returned to focusing on why Rowan was seeking justice. I was bored through most of the emoting, but the ending gave some closure to the plot.

The Romance
“Traumatised girls don’t stop wanting. We just learn “to value consent more than fantasy.”
* 55% open door spice
* Hefty amount of limerence
* Older characters

I do think the writing style is excellent and appropriate to a justice-oriented romance 🤗!

Silent Heir is the second book in the interconnected dark college romance series and follows the theme of survivor's guilt, justice, and revenge when the law doesn't hold up. The story continues after Creeping Lily and follows the story of Justin, who is now the head of The Goliath, a vigilante group on helping victims. He’s tasked with investigating an incident on a college campus. While there, he encounters Rowan, a seemingly ordinary college student who harbors a secret. Rowan has been haunted by her past after she survives an attack on her and her sister when they were younger. Justice doesn't prevail and the culprits are never arrested or taken to court because of their connections and power . Rowan is left devastated, alone, and unable to trust so as she gets older, she becomes stronger, angrier, and determined to get her own justice. Rowan's war on revenge and Justin's quest to investigate soon intertwine and their path's become connected. As they work together, new scandals on the college campus and truths come to light as the story explores what happens when systems fail and powerful people avoid the consequences. This was such an amazing book, and I think this one is my favorite of the series. From the first book, I didn't know how I would like Justin, but I was glad I got to explore him more in depth. He is intense, controlled, discipline, and working to find justice for those that need it the most. I also loved to see more of his complex relationship with his sister. Rowan is such an interesting character. She walks a delicate line between seeking revenge and yearning for someone to rescue her from the depths of her emotional turmoil. Having learned to live alone and guard her heart, Justin begins to dismantle her defenses. She finally finds someone who can protect, support, and love her while also granting her the space to heal and rediscover herself after the devastating loss of her sister. In this safe haven, she can confront her emotions and rebuild her life with Justin and his friends. This emotionally charged and heartbreaking plot unfolds into a truly captivating story that culminates in a satisfying and rewarding conclusion.

🔥🔥🔥

Finally we get Justin's story! If you read Creeping Lily, then that is where you will first meet Justin, but you do not have to read that book first to enjoy this one.

Summary:
Rowan is out for revenge because of her past. She takes no prisoners when it comes to the people she plans to destroy. Justin is the head of Goliath, a secret society that is part vigilante and part clean up crew for problems at the local university. When a high profile alumni is poisoned at an event, Rowan lands right on Justin’s radar. What he cannot figure out is who she really is behind the mask. And why he suddenly feels like she belongs to him. One thing is clear to him though. He has no intention of letting her go.

I was so happy this ended up being Justin’s story. I loved him in the first book, so it was great finally seeing him get his happy ending with Rowan. Rowan was a strong FMC and I liked how stubborn she was with Justin. He follows her. Watches her. Tries to figure out who she really is. And she refuses to give him anything. Digitally she is a ghost, which makes her his biggest puzzle to solve. Especially when he starts wondering if she is connected to the recent cases he was asked to contain at the university. He definitely did not expect to get attached to her. I loved watching both of their stories unfold. In the end, both characters deserved that happy ending.

Spice? Well, that is where I had to take a half star off. There is some, but so minimal and not as detailed as I usually read in more dark romances. I wouldn't suggest this book for the spice, but more the plot and story.

Overall, loved it and can't wait to read Silas next (he better be next)!

Silent Heir – Iris T. Cannon

I went into this expecting a typical college romance, but it turned out to be so much more—completely different from what I anticipated. The writing flows smoothly and seamlessly, making it easy to sink into the story once it finds its rhythm. It took me a couple of chapters to get my bearings, but after that, I was completely hooked.

This is a deeply emotional read. Rowan and Justin are not your typical main characters, and that’s what makes them so compelling. Rowan absolutely broke my heart—she’s fiercely independent to the point of isolation, resilient yet clearly carrying heavy emotional scars. She’s broken, but never weak. Justin, on the other hand, seems calm, controlled, and put-together on the surface, but there’s a quiet intensity in how he’s drawn to Rowan and his instinct to protect her.

The atmosphere throughout the book is moody and slightly detached, which really enhances the emotional weight of the story. The storyline itself pulled hard at my heartstrings—I did cry—and it also touches on themes that feel very relevant today, especially the imbalance of power where those with resources often act without consequences.

I also loved the supporting cast—the friendships and family dynamics added warmth and balance, showing genuine care and support between the characters. And the epilogues? Absolutely perfect.

This is one of those books that lingers with you long after you’ve finished.

Rating: ★★★☆☆
A strong start that unfortunately loses its way.

I really wanted to love Silent Heir more than I did. Iris Cannon starts us off with an incredible hook—the first 50% of the book is tightly paced, atmospheric, and had me genuinely curious about where the mystery was heading. The setup promised a high-stakes payoff that kept me turning pages late into the night.

The Turning Point
Unfortunately, the plot seemed to die off almost entirely in the second half. What began as a driving narrative slowed to a crawl, and the tension that Cannon built so effectively at the start just dissipated.

Redundant Reflection
The biggest hurdle for me was the internal monologue. There was far too much character self-reflection in the latter half of the book. While I appreciate getting into a protagonist's head, the constant rehashing of their feelings and doubts felt incredibly redundant. Instead of the plot moving forward through action or dialogue, we spent chapters spinning in circles inside the main character's mind.

Final Verdict: If you enjoy deep, internal character studies and don't mind a slower pace, you might enjoy this more than I did. For me, the brilliant setup of the first half deserved a much punchier conclusion.

Silent Heir by Iris Cannon delivers a dark college romance that’s equal parts intense, emotional, and impossible to step away from. Cannon’s writing immediately pulls you into a world of secrets, power plays, and unhealed wounds hiding beneath polished campus life.
The central relationship is magnetic—charged with tension, chemistry, and a slow‑burn unraveling of the characters’ guarded interiors. The hero is brooding and mysterious without feeling one‑note, and the heroine’s resilience and vulnerability create a compelling contrast. Together, their dynamic drives the story with a perfect mix of angst and emotional payoff.
The atmosphere is moody and immersive, with just enough darkness to raise the stakes without tipping into gratuitous territory. The pacing is well balanced, keeping the plot moving while still giving room for character development and relationship depth. A few moments feel fast or intense enough that you want a beat longer to breathe, but it never breaks the momentum.
Overall, Silent Heir stands out as a polished, emotionally rich dark academia romance. With addictive writing, layered characters, and a storyline that keeps tightening its grip, it earns a strong 4.5 stars and leaves you eager for the next book.

Welcome to an emotional, cathartic, slow burn, back burner romance. FMC-Rowan is a woman long enraged with little to lose and on her path of vigilante revenge when she pings on MMC-Justin’s radar. Though this one got repetitive, I found it to be diverse and dang do I love a woman on a revenge mission. Maybe I’m jaded, maybe just a realist, but I definitely related with Rowan’s lack of faith in the justice system. I wish the story explored the depths of the characters more, they read as one dimensional to me. Thanks to BookSprout I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Besties… This Book Ruined My Sleep

Alright Besties… let’s talk about the first chapter of "Silent Heir" because Iris T. Cannon really said no easing into the chaos tonight. I was only a few pages in and already sitting there like, “Well… guess I’m not sleeping.” 😅

Rowan Hale is fueled by pure feminine rage, and honestly? I was Here. For. It! Her flashbacks and diary entries were absolutely gut-wrenching.😫 The way her trauma, anger, and grief unfold felt so raw and immersive that I couldn’t stop turning pages.

And then there’s Justin Collins. Their connection is definitely a slow burn, but considering Rowan’s past, the patience and quiet determination Justin shows made the tension between them even more powerful. He doesn’t try to fix her rage... he understands it… and that makes things deliciously dangerous.

What I expected to be a dark college romance turned into a full emotional rollercoaster with secrets, revenge, and suspense layered through every chapter. Iris T. Cannon’s writing pulls you into every scene so vividly that before you know it… the book is finished and you’re sitting there like, wait… that’s it?! Oh and the 2 epilogues... Chef's kiss!😘

I swear, I haven’t read an Iris T. Cannon book I didn’t enjoy... and Silent Heir is absolutely another one to add to your shelves.😉

Vigilantism — Anarchy or Accountability?

Silent Heir is a dark and profoundly emotional journey of loss and grief, survivors guilt, and the traumatizing effect of justice that’s never served. Of finding a love that grounds you and offers a lifeline. Pulling you from the past and ensuring you never again have to carry that weight alone.

For over a decade, Rowan Hale has endured suffocating survivor’s guilt and the weight of a justice system that failed her and her family. She now stands ready to dole out accountability—on her terms, of course!

Justin Collins—the new head of Goliath—is controlled violence in a suit. After meeting Rowan, he understands her pain and stands ready to burn the world down for her. He becomes her shadow protector—her shield, her sword—her peace in the storm.

This book was actually really good!!! It definitely has some dark themes, so please check the TW's. The story follows Rowan who is the survivor of an attack where her sister didn't survive. This started a journey of vengeance and justice. Wanting to take down those who were the monsters in their story and ruined their futures. I loved the fact that she was strong and vigilant playing the long game… Then enters Justin. Rowan was placed on his radar and he grew attached to her, wanting to know more but for reasons outside of his original thought process. He was a man with power and money. She came from nothing and was left alone to fend for herself. The story unraveled so crazy truths and had a serious plot! I loved the romance that developed and the HEA was truly amazing! I wanted more but so glad I received the ending both Rowan and Justin deserved!

This was an ARC and I am giving my honest review

I'm convinced Iris T. Cannon writes it, and I'll eagerly devour it. After reading Creeping Lily, I knew I had to get my hands on this book and read Justin's story. The way this book pulled me in and kept me captivated by the thrilling, intense, suspenseful plot and these incredible characters, I was instantly hooked and invested.

It's the type of story that will cut deep and put you through an emotional ride. The way the plot is layered and how it's told and sets everything up with the best build-up to the incredible ending, it's just so addictive. It goes beyond the typical dark college romance with Rowan and Justin's characters written with complexities that make them feel so real and mature. I loved them together, and their story will stay with me.

This dark college romance is an engaging and emotionally layered romance that delivers a strong blend of intrigue, tension, and character-driven storytelling. The premise is compelling, pulling you into a world of secrets and hidden power, while the slow unraveling of the main character’s past keeps the stakes interesting throughout. The writing does a great job crafting a moody, immersive atmosphere, and the central relationship builds with a satisfying mix of restraint and intensity. While certain plot turns feel a bit predictable and could have been explored more deeply, the strong character dynamics and steady pacing make it an enjoyable read. Overall, it’s a solid four-star book that offers both emotional depth and just enough suspense to keep you invested.

Thank you BookSirens for the wonderful book!

Most of us already knew and loved him from Lily’s story, and I’ll admit—there was a time I was fully rooting for him to be Lily’s love interest. But after reading this… yeah. The author really did give them both the perfect endings they deserved.

As much as I loved Justin’s dynamic with Lily, seeing him find his own match in Rowan just feels right. Their story takes its time, especially when it comes to dealing with trauma, revenge, and Rowan’s backstory, and I honestly loved that about it. It’s definitely a slow burn, it takes a while for them to become an item, but the journey there is so worth it.

If you like emotionally heavy stories that don’t rush healing and actually go step by step, this one is for you!

Wow is all I can start off saying. This book sucked me in from the very start. I wasn't sure what direction it was going to go but I loved the journey. Rowan & Justin have both lead very different lives but their life experiences brought them together at the right place & time. The world building was well written & back story especially for Rowan was detailed. They both put everything out there knowing how quickly life can be taken from you. I highly recommend this book! I don't want to say too much & spoil it for anyone else. But it was a top read. Sometimes we just need someone to hold us & keep our broken pieces together.

I just didn’t fully gel with this story. Don’t get me wrong—the writing isn’t bad. At times, the prose felt repetitive, but overall it was still solid. The POVs were easily distinguishable and didn’t sound the same, which I appreciated. The concept itself is strong, but by the halfway point, it felt like while I knew about the past, Goliath, and the club, I didn’t really know the characters. At times, things felt more clinical and distant.

Personally, I wouldn’t label this a college romance; it reads more like a vigilante romance to me. You may very well love this book, and as I said, it had a clear arc and some genuinely good moments. I just really value deep character development, and for my personal taste, this felt a bit lacking in that area.

I devoured this book in one day, what an emotional story.
Rowan is a law student and a journalist at St. Augustine University. She is alone, completely on her own with no support. Her sole purpose in life is to get revenge on the three men who attacked her years ago.

Justin is the leader of the Goliath group; we met him in Creeping Lily the first book. He’s called the Dean’s office to help “control” the fallout of the near fatal poisoning of an alumni.

I love the development of Rowan, from being alone to finding her “found” family. Justin helps Rowan complete the mystery of her past and then helps her build her future.

Five stars read.

Story 4.75 ⭐
Spice 3.5 🌶️

Silent Heir is a dark revenge college romance where only Rowan is actually a college student. Justin is involved in security, and does find himself becoming a stalker early on.

Rowan is looking for those who have done harm to her and her sister in the past, and the identity of one of the perpetrators remains a surprise until much later in the book.

Personally, I would have liked to see Rowan involved a little more in the end of the revenge plot than she actually was. Other than this, it was a fast-paced dark romance that was not as heavy on the spice as is commonly seen in the genre.

Silent Heir is a dark college romance story. It is well-written and emotional.

Rowan is a college student. She has had a difficult life filled with pain. She was left alone as a teenager after her sister and mother died. Her life is now something she has to do alone and she relies on herself.

Justin runs a company that deals with problems at colleges. Once he meets Rowan he can't stay away from her. He becomes obsessed with her and tries to avenge her sister's death.

I loved how strong Rowan was. Her story was filled with emotion. I loved how Justin was so obsessed with her. I look forward to the next story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🌶🌶

I enjoyed the plot of this story the most! Both Justin and Rowan would be considered morally gray in their own ways. Rowan is out for revenge after a traumatizing experience when she was young, and her story just got worse as time progressed. She is smart, beautiful, and intuitive. They meet by happenstance, and how they are able to work together and solve the missing pieces from her past is a heartbreaking but redeeming story.

If you are looking for romantic suspense with a HEA, this is the perfect read for you. There are some heavy triggers in this story, so proceed with caution if you are sensitive to anything on the trigger list. I'm looking forward to reading more stories by her, including Creeping Lily, which is interconnected.

Watching Rowan trade her badge for a reporter’s notepad to hunt down monsters at St. Augustine is the kind of feminine rage I live for. Justin isn't your standard campus hero; he’s a leader of a shadowy organization who prefers his secrets kept under a heavy layer of power and expensive silence. Their connection is a slow-burn disaster waiting to happen, built on a mutual appreciation for scars and a shared desire to watch the world burn. It’s gritty and gothic, trading typical university drama for a deep dive into trauma and moral corruption. While the pacing takes its time to let the tension simmer, the payoff for this broken pair feels earned. Want a story where the hero matches the heroine’s darkness rather than trying to fix it? This is your next read.

ARC came from thd author via Book sirens.

Yet another awesome read from this author.
This is the second book about the men of Goliath, and their darkness being overthrown when they find their true loves.
I thoroughly enjoyed Creeping Lily, which was also an ARC, and this story continues on, with a similar vein, but this is Justin's story.
Rowan appears to be your typical college student, but she's hiding a big secret. She's taking revenge on those she believed killed her sister.
But, nothing is cut and dried in this dark world , and the twists and turns are bountiful and plenty.
I loved this story, it has great characters, and the plot keeps the reader on their toes.
