Rate this book
Born without an orb, His Highness the Prince of the Eastern Sea Ao Ao has spent his life mocked for his powerlessness. Determined to change his fate, he ventures into the human world in search of the fabled dragon orb, said to grant boundless strength. His search leads him to a modern-day academy built upon the pearl’s last known resting place.

Disguised as a student, Ao Ao goes on a quiet mission that takes an unexpected turn when he meets the exchange student, Reinhardt—a charming yet secretive young man who seems to know far more about Ao Ao than he should. As the two set out to uncover the orb’s whereabouts, threads of memory, fate, and something far deeper begin to intertwine between them.

In a world where dragons walk unseen among humans, one lost past may hold the key to both their destinies.

I was not expecting this to be so funny. It got a few laughs out of me for sure. The chibis and humor were adorable but dont drown out the interesting plot. I cant wait to read more!

“His face pops into my head as soon as I close my eyes. But I’m pretty sure I’ve never met a guy like him, even during my vagabond phase.”

description

Let me start my review with the cover. The art is okay, but I didn’t really like the fonts they used. My bigger issue is the high-gloss texture. I’ve loved the feel of previous books from Rosmei, so this one surprised me a little. The glossy finish made it feel lower in quality to me, which is a shame because the book still looks nice at first glance. It’s not awful or anything, but it was definitely something I noticed right away.

For the story, I first thought this was going to be a very angsty manhua. After reading and flipping through the pages a few times, it actually felt a lot fluffier than I expected, aside from a few more emotional parts. I didn’t mind that, though. Ao Ao is charming, and I liked how his weakness affects how he sees himself. His search for the dragon orb feels personal because it connects to his confidence, his family pressure, and his need to prove he isn’t useless. Reinhardt also caught my attention because he feels like he’s hiding a lot. Every teasing or protective moment between them made me wonder what he already knows.

I also liked the contrast between the two main characters. The academy setting gives it a cute, school-comedy feel, but there are still little hints of secrets, past memories, and unfinished history underneath the lighter moments. The art inside was okay for me too. It’s pretty enough and easy to enjoy, though it didn’t completely wow me. This first volume feels more like a foundation for what’s coming, so I wasn’t fully hooked yet, but I did enjoy the characters, the soft romance, and the mystery around the orb. I’m curious enough to continue and see where Ao Ao and Reinhardt’s story goes next.

Experiencing this manhua in print format was such a delight!

To start off, the print quality is incredible, from sturdy cover with french flaps to high quality paper inside which made all the art look good. The layout - or however the panel arrangement is called in graphic novels - looks professional, and it's not reused from any other edition, as this is the first uncensored one in existence for this particular title. Now onto the story!

I'm already familiar with the story, so I know what's coming, but to focus on what's covered in this first volume, the setting is a mix of modern fantasy with so far a dash of historical flashbacks, and there will be more of that the further we go into the story in the next volumes. For now, our MC and ML meet at school; while the school is ordinary, these two are anything but. Both are dragons who share some kind of past that one of them doesn't remember, and the other seems plagued by. The mysteries are all set up, complete with a side couple who also share a past we're not aware of yet.

The plot is intriguing already in this volume, but way more is coming, trust me. As a whole, the story is a perfect blend of humor and angst, even though more of the angst will be coming in later volumes. It's hard to compare to any other story I've read because there's nothing like it, but for simplicity's sake, the amnesia and dragons parts of it may vibe with Nanchan fans, while parts of the historical flashback that will be coming sometime later may appeal to 2ha fans. Of course A Tale of Two Dragons has its own original flair that you just have to discover for yourself.

Last but not least, the translation doesn't disappoint. It flows well and there are no typos.

There's a lot going on here, and it's sometimes inconsistent in tone (too many dramatic moments interrupted by chibis/humor), but I enjoyed it and it made me laugh. There's also enough mystery and intrigue, plus a compelling secondary couple, to keep me invested.
