I became absorbed in this story very quickly. Following the story of Kate who is abducted and tied up, drowning tied to something, running around on rocks before rescued at the last possible second.
She then recuperates with Nick, at his isolated lighthouse, her physical wounds getting better but amnesia is holding her back. Is Nick all he seems? When his friend Steve shows up, having found her identity, muddies the waters further.
The book then follows Kate as she tries to discover what happened to her and why.
It has a great cast of characters and you aren't really sure if you can trust any of the. I hoped that Jane would be trustworthy as she seemed like a good soul. Samantha seemed like the very worst of current influencer society.
The location in the very north of Scotland was beautifully written and the authors love for this area shines through his words.
The isolation of the lighthouse was fantastic and the comparison of the simple life to that of the excess people with money lead. There is also an element of eco groups protesting against a testing lab, and I think how the author ties this off is brilliant.
A brilliant exploration of who you are as a person, who you believe yourself to be compared to that of colleagues, friends and your partner. Jack also has a great way of ending chapters on cliffhangers so you keep reading.
