Ten years ago, the man I loved vanished. I thought he abandoned me. I survived anyway.
I built a life without Massimo Manetti. Married the wrong man. Raised my son in silence. And buried the truth so deep even I almost believed it didn’t matter.
Then my world was torn apart.
My son and husband were taken. And the only man powerful enough to get them back is the one who never knew he was a father.
Massimo rules Las Vegas with blood and control. He’s ruthless. Possessive. Dangerous. And he’s demanding answers I’m not sure I’m ready to give.
Because saving my child means trusting the man I never stopped loving.
I won’t beg. I won’t break. And I won’t lose my son.
As enemies close in and old betrayals surface, I have to decide if giving Massimo the truth will save us… or destroy everything.
Merciless Sinner is a dark mafia romance featuring second-chance love, a secret baby, forced proximity, a powerful antihero, and a heroine who refuses to kneel.
* For readers who like their romance dangerous and possessive—with a hard-won HEA.
Love made them dangerous. The lie made them merciless.
Jenna has spent years surviving a life she never truly chose. She’s a wife in public, a prisoner in private, and a mother holding every broken piece together for the son she’d burn the world to protect. When her carefully managed life is ripped open, the only man powerful enough to help is the one man she never stopped loving.
Massimo rules Las Vegas with control, violence, and a heart he buried long ago. He thinks Jenna betrayed him, and she thinks he abandoned her, but when she comes back into his world desperate and wounded, every old lie starts cracking open. What's between them isn’t simple, and neither is the love that survived it.
Forced into each other’s orbit again, Jenna and Massimo have to face what still burns beneath the rage. Their chemistry is brutal, their trust is fractured, and their need for each other cuts deeper than either wants to admit. As danger closes in, his obsession turns protective, and her fear hardens into defiance.
Jenna grows from a woman surviving inside a controlled, performative life into someone who chooses truth, protection, desire, and love on her own terms. Massimo shifts from a ruthless, emotionally sealed man who mistakes pain for betrayal into a protector and partner forced to face grief, love, and the cost of what was stolen from him. Their relationship moves from mistrust and unresolved desire into a volatile, deeply committed bond built on passion, truth, and protection.
A dark, ultra-steamy mafia romance about second chances, buried truths, and the kind of devotion that turns protection into a vow. It’s about surviving betrayal without losing yourself, choosing love in a world built on power and silence, and a woman who won’t kneel beside a man who’ll destroy anything that touches what’s his.
The Elevator Pitch: A woman trapped inside a polished political lie is forced back to the ruthless man she never stopped loving when her son is taken. He rules Las Vegas with blood and control, but the truth she carries could break through every wall he built around himself. As old betrayals surface and enemies close in, their buried love becomes both the wound and the weapon.
New books, new characters, new rules of the game, and an enemy lurking in the shadows, this is how this intense and emotional story begins, captivating you from the very first page.
Jenna has suffered too much, she once opened her heart, believing she would finally have her happy ending but fate dealt her a cruel blow, convinced that the man she loved and still loves abandoned her she had to piece herself back together with a broken heart. She did what was necessary to protect the only thing she had left of that love: her son, she married out of duty, survived as best she could and found in her little boy the strength to carry on but ten years later the past returns and this time her son is in danger.
There is only one person who can help her, only one option Massimo, the man she hasn't seen in ten long years, Massimo has changed too life has made him powerful, a king, judge and executioner. A decade ago he too gave his heart away and ended up destroyed convinced that the woman he loved betrayed him at his lowest point, for him Jenna left him behind as if nothing had mattered but now she's back and she needs his help, she needs him to save their son, their son, the secret Jenna kept for years can no longer be hidden.
The reunion is as painful as it is inevitable, both carry deep wounds, both believe they've been betrayed that pain is felt in every line, every word, every memory. The time apart wasn't easy and now Massimo must face not only danger but also the truth, his anger upon discovering he has a son is completely understandable; years were stolen from him, irreplaceable moments, everything he can never get back, even so it's also impossible not to understand Jenna because they were both victims of external manipulations that tore them apart.
The road is not easy but Massimo manages to save his son, from there another battle begins confronting his feelings for Jenna, because despite everything he never stopped loving her, and she never stopped loving him. Jenna remains the only one capable of seeing beyond the tough man who rules Las Vegas and Massimo is the only one who can make her feel loved, valued, and strong.
They both know they must talk, that they need to rebuild what was broken if they want a chance at family, the truth of the past slowly comes to light as they try to reconnect however their enemies never rest. From the shadows, they continue to move their pieces, threatening to destroy everything they are trying to build and stripping Massimo of his power.
Despite everything they fight together, they open up, they are honest, they heal wounds and they rebuild trust, their love never disappeared. It was only buried under pain and deceit, and when two people love each other so intensely, the path always finds a way to open up.
They manage to heal, to reconnect and to become a family, Massimo finds redemption and completes his life alongside Jenna, his son and his quirky group of friends because yes Massimo's friends are unique and bring very special moments to the story. Jenna, for her part, finds in them a family that protects and supports her and with Massimo she regains her strength and her capacity to love.
Although this book ends with them together the story doesn't end here, the enemy is still present, the rules of the game have been established and a new threat is brewing in the shadows, now they must all fight to protect their family and secure their future.
And the best part is that this is just the beginning, because the next story will be Gabe's, a character who shows great promise in love or obsessed with a forbidden woman. We'll have to see if he achieves his happy ending, although everything suggests that his path won't be easy but it will definitely be worth it.
Overall, this first book in this new universe has been intense, emotional and very captivating. The protagonists' pain is palpable in every moment, and their love story, both past and present, is deeply moving, the evolution of both characters is very well developed, making the story even more enjoyable. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

MERCILESS SINNER is the first instalment in Bella Ray’s contemporary, adult EMPIRE OF SIN dark, erotic, romance series, a spin off, set in the author’s SAVAGE KINGS OF NY world. This is Las Vegas Mafia leader Massimo Manetti, and assistant Jenna Kingsley -Whitford’s story line.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Massimo and Jenna) MERCILESS SINNER follows in the aftermath of the abduction of Jenna Kingsley-Whitford’s ten year old son Amauri, and her husband Carter Whitford. Massimo and Jenna were high school sweethearts and an horrific betrayal would bond our couple together in more ways than one but when Massimo vanished from Jenna’s life, she discovered she was pregnant, and was forced to marry someone she didn’t love. Fast forward to present day, Jenna’s husband and son are abducted, and the only man she trusts to find her son, is the man she believes left her alone. Massimo Manetti is a fair but cruel Kingpin , the head of the Manetti crime family on the Las Vegas strip but the arrival and appearance of a desperate Jenna Whitford proves his heart remained frozen even in the face of horrific news until Massimo learns the existence of his son, a boy he never knew, but a boy he was determined to raise as his own. As Massimo and his crew begin a deep dive into the abduction of his son, Massimo will uncover a trail of betrayal from outside and within.
The world building follows several intersecting pathways that culminate in the ultimate betrayal for our story line couple. A rise to power for both Massimo and Jenna’s father Senator Kingsley meant a potential war for our heroine’s heart but Massimo will discover the Senator’s actions have long killed any of his daughter’s affections, leaving a woman determined to find her son, and exact revenge on everyone who did them harm.
The relationship between Massimo and Jenna is one of second chances; a rekindling romance that was destroyed by power and greed, and the ultimate betrayal by the people they trusted. Massimo and Jenna believed they were abandoned by one another in their time of need, never knowing the truth until a long forgotten memory and a random conversation sets into motion ten years of vengeance. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, controversial, questionable and desperate secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Jenna’s son Amauri, and her husband Carter Whitford; Jenna’s father Senator Preston Kingsley, and part of his security team Sean and live-in assistant Marianne Hale; Massimo’s men Enzo, Alessio, Gabe and Damiano, as well as the return of Stephano and Oksana Conti (Ruthless Kings/Savage Kings of NY). The requisite evil has many faces .Betrayal comes from all sides.
MERCILESS SINNER is a slow building story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, secrets and lies, dysfunctional family dynamics, relationships, friendships, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is dark, dramatic, and edgy with plenty of contemplation, reflection and introspection; the romance is seductive and forgiving; the characters are desperate, determined, and charismatic.
I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping dark mafia romantic suspense from a new to me author that kept me hooked from the first to the last page. The well-crafted plot is fast-paced, action-packed, has second-chance, forced-proximity, and secret-baby tropes, and is filled with pent-up emotions, action, twists, suspense, danger, violence, and spice. I loved the protagonists. Massimo is definitely a powerful, possessive antihero who views emotions as a weakness. Jenna is strong and determined in her own way despite her past. Their feelings for each other and the tension between them were palpable throughout the book. I also liked how their characters developed in the course of the story. The book ends with a cliffhanger and I‘m looking forward to Gabe‘s story.
Massimo is a cold-blooded Vegas mafia boss who rules his empire with an iron fist. He tolerates no weaknesses, mistakes, or betrayals. Yet an unknown enemy threatens to destabilize and destroy his empire from within and unexpectedly his former love Jenna, who left him a decade ago while he was severely injured and married someone else, comes to him and asks for his help. Jenna Whitford, Senator Kingsley’s daughter, has come to terms with the life that has been imposed on her—as an obedient daughter, a dutiful wife to her father’s disabled protégé, and a devoted mother to her beloved son. When her husband and son are kidnapped during a home invasion—from which she managed to escape—her father, a political activist fighting against human trafficking and drug cartels, refuses to meet the kidnappers’ demands, instead seeking to exploit the kidnappings for his own ambitious ends—no matter the cost. With no other choice, Jenna turns to Massimo for help and confesses that he is the father of her son. Massimo immediately agrees to help find his son, even though he has hated Jenna ever since her supposed betrayal. Little by little, they grow closer again and come to realize that betrayals, lies, and wrong assumptions have driven them apart, all while they search for the mastermind behind the kidnappers and Massimo takes on his mysterious enemy…
Perfect for readers who love gritty, emotionally charged mafia romances packed with great imagery, action, suspense, violence, and some steamy scenes.

Title: Merciless Sinner (Empire of Sin: Book 1) Author: Bella Ray
Review: I received an (ARC) Advanced Reader Copy for MY honest review for free.
This is the first book in Bella Ray’s new series ‘Empire of Sin’, where we meet Jenna Kingsley and Massimo Manetti.
Jenna has lived a privileged life, but at a cost. She thought she had found her happily ever after with the golden boy football star Carter Whitford, but after being put in an unthinkable position and left to fend for herself, Jenna makes a decision to fight back but this comes at a cost.
Massimo was in the right place and the right time and came to Jenna’s aid. Slowly, they fell in love and Jenna gave her whole self to Massimo only for him to disappear. Jenna thought Massimo had abandoned her, and being left with no choice and an ultimatum, Jenna’s life and future was taken from her.
Jenna did what her father told her to do, married who he chose and then had to live with the one man that threw her to the wolves.
Ten years later the past catches up and her son is taken as revenge. There is only one man that can get him back… his biological father, Massimo.
The man that she hasn’t seen in ten years, the man that walked away and broke her heart, and the man that she swore she would never contact again.
Massimo is King of Las Vegas. He runs his city with an iron first and anyone that goes up against the King ends up in flames. He once gave his heart to a woman and it ended up destroying him. He swore he would never fall for a woman again, especially when no one could ever compare to her. Convinced that she betrayed him, the last person he expects to show up on his doorstep is Jenna.
After learning the truth and what is at stake, Massimo charges into action, stopping at nothing to get his son back. Ten long years he has missed out on, and he won’t waste a single second more.
Massimo and Jenna’s relationship starts off rocky because of their history and both thinking that the other had turned their back on them, but the more information that comes to light and the people that betrayed them, they come back together and become stronger because of it. Saving Amauri is their main priority, everything else can wait. But let’s not get it twisted, now that Massimo has her, he’s never lettering her and his son go.
This is a VERY slow-burn, so patience is a must on this one.
I am a very big fan of the previous series/books, so my expectations were high. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. I think being such a slow-burn, I didn’t quite get the hook that usually comes from the beginning, but I stayed and finished.
Even though Massimo and Jenna had history, ten years later I just didn’t feel the romantic connection was there, more surface level. It wasn’t hot and steamy, but a VERY slow burn. I got past half way and I think all they had shared was one kiss, so the passion wasn’t there on the pages for me.
There is also a lot of rambling/internal monologue and sometimes I had to go back just to re-read what the conversation was about.
I loved how protective everyone was of Amauri. He came across as a very gentle soul, and probably a lot wiser than everyone gave him credit for. Kids are resilient, but no doubt he will be just as fierce as his father.
I really liked the Bonus Scenes where we find out exactly what happened behind closed doors and what lead to Jenna and Massimo meeting. **Read TW**
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series with Gabe and Audra.
Stars: 3.75/5 ★ Spice: 2.5/5 🌶️ Recommend: Yes Notes: ARC received from Author
Merciless Sinner by Bella Ray is a dark mafia romance that follows Massimo and Jenna—and it’s the first book in the Empire of Sin series. I can’t wait for the next books! The plotline was amazing. Bella Ray did a great job weaving twists and turns through both the FMC and MMC’s lives, together and separately. I was completely drawn in, and I felt so bad for the time they lost because of the machinations and political games played by Jenna’s senator father—and the husband he chose for her. The way their lives kept intertwining and connecting them in so many different ways was also really well done. Massimo is the Don of the Las Vegas mafia. He isn’t physically “perfect” due to an accident ten years earlier, and that’s one of the things that kept him apart from Jenna. He rescued her, and they formed a deep connection—but when she tried to contact him afterward (not knowing about the accident), she was turned away. With so many people working against them, they both came to believe the other had simply abandoned them. Jenna’s dad wanted someone different for her—not because he loved her, but because it benefited him politically. She’s a long-suffering pawn in his games. After people come for her husband and son because of her father’s shady dealings, and Jenna realizes he isn’t going to help, she reaches out to Massimo because she knows he’s the only one who can get her son back. I loved the action and everything they go through while fighting their way back to each other—while dealing with all the outside influences in their personal lives. They do get their son back and take down some enemies, but there are still others waiting in the wings, and I’m so excited to keep going in the series. I genuinely couldn’t put this book down because it was that intense. The connections and dialogue aren’t just strong between Jenna and Massimo, but also between Massimo and his capos—and then Jenna and his capos—which really highlights the found-family element. It’s the first book I’ve read by Bella Ray, but it definitely won’t be the last. If you like dark mafia romance, lots of spice, second-chance love, surprise twists, found family, and a page-turning start to a new series, you’ll love this one.

Let me start by saying this is the best book I've read in a while and I read & review two to three books a day.
It's unusual to find an author who has such a well plotted and planned out original storyline especially with so many plot twists going on in both their business & personal lives. All the characters are well written and likable and the main character's backstories are just as interesting as their present day storylines.
I love Massamo's character and the growth he shows throughout the story. He is the physically and mentally damaged Italian Don of Las Vegas. His love interest Jenna is the daughter of a crooked Senator who meets Massamo in high school after she murders a man and he finds her over the body which he helps her bury. Not exactly a meet cute but oh how my dark side loves it! 😈
The story starts out 10 years later and Jenna is married to someone else and has a child. Massimo has become the king of Las Vegas and hasn't seen Jenna in all those years and hates her (fine line between love and hate) for the past. Bloodied and bruised, Jenna seeks him out after her son and husband are taken and her father refuses to help get them back.
I couldn't put this book down once I started and switched my kindle to read parts of it to me while I was cooking, eating and out for long walks with my dogs, which are normally my break times from reading and reviewing. This is the first time I've read this Author but it won't be the last. Just added all her series to my TBR.
I can't wait to read Gabe and the rest of Massamos' Capo's stories next!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!.

A new story in a new series by an Author that has become a favourite of mine in the last years. And guess what? I was so excited when it came to me that I couldn't wait to read it! Of course it was as I expected and more. A dark, mafia, second chance, secret pregnancy, enemies to lovers, slow burn story. The story of the main couple started 10 years prior and we get gists of it throughout the present story. Heroine, Jenna, has a 10 year old boy and is in an arranged marriage. Hero, Massimo, is the mafia boss who has endured a rather painful past that we learn details of it further in the story. Everything is in order until someone kidnaps Jenna's son and husband and she has no choice but to turn to Massimo for help. Massimo learns the truth about the boy that he's his and he does everything to get him back. Then it's a rollercoaster of revelations until the whole truth comes in the light. This story is a slow burn so be prepared. I love slow burn, not much fun of insta lust, so I enjoyed it thoroughly. I love how the tension is building and building until it explodes in the form of a kiss that leaves you wanting more. Usually I'm skeptical when it comes to big time gaps and 10 years isn't something inconsequential but the Author managed to keep my attention and make me feel the chemistry between the couple. The story is very well written with an unpretentious flow that mesmerizes you so much so that the next chapter comes and goes without even realizing it. Also I have to point out that the plot was so well constructed that I didn't notice any inconsistency even though there were several twists. I received this arc and this is my honest opinion.
I cannot say enough good things about this book. Overall 4/5 stars with only some minor things that would've pushed me to a full 5. The overall story I thought was great and flowed great, but it lacked the close the book and look at your invisible audience moments that some prior 5-star reads have given me. That being said, I did truly enjoy this book from start to finish. I had some travel and life things get in the way of this being a quicker read, but this easily could've been a 2-day read with how good the story was. The angst and lust between Jenna and Massimo I think was perfectly done and timed out just right with all of their history and back-story. Overall though this story made me really happy for how it panned out and left me ready to read book two which I know is in the works!!
I read a good bit of mafia romance books and think this one hit all the good components of those types of stories. It had the perfect fit of conflict and resolution with the added bonus of a "soft cliffhanger" to lead into the next book. With that point as well, I will say I loved the inner circle characters for Massimo. All of them I felt played vital roles and were more than just other characters, giving enough to the story that I want to know them on the same level as Massimo and Jenna.
All in all, loved this book and would recommend to any lover of second chance or mafia romance books. I think it would be a good first jump into a mafia book as well for anyone debating if the genre is right for them :)
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This book was a truly enjoyable read, earning 4 out of 5 stars. While it didn't quite have those "close the book and look at your invisible audience" moments that push a read to a perfect 5, the overall story was fantastic and flowed beautifully. Despite some life and travel interruptions, the compelling plot made this easily a two-day read. The development of the angst and lust between Jenna and Massimo was handled perfectly, timed just right given their history and backstory. Ultimately, the story's resolution was deeply satisfying and left me eagerly anticipating the confirmed sequel.
As a fan of mafia romance, I can say this book hits all the right notes for the genre. It expertly balanced conflict and resolution and included a "soft cliffhanger" that sets up the next installment perfectly. A significant highlight was Massimo's inner circle; these characters felt vital to the story, going beyond mere secondary roles. They contributed so much that I'm just as invested in learning their stories as I am in Jenna and Massimo's.
In conclusion, I loved this book and highly recommend it, particularly to lovers of second-chance or mafia romance. I also think it would serve as an excellent introduction for anyone considering diving into the mafia romance genre.

This is the beginning of a new series from author Bella Ray. I fell in love with her character and writing style last year when I devoured her first series. While you do not need to go read the other series first, some of the old series' characters and plot points show up in this book. But, again, you do not have to read the other series first.
Jenna and Massimo were in a relationship 10 years ago. Although, she was in an arranged marriage to someone else. There are parties working behind the scenes (on each side) to keep Jenna and Massimo apart. Jenna thinks he disappeared on her, and she finds out she's pregnant. Of course, that moves the date of her pending marriage up because her father is in to politics and "image" (eye roll). By the time Massimo "resurfaces" she's already married.
Later, Her son and husband are kidnapped and she turns to Massimo to help rescue them. The secrets behind her pregnancy and son, and Massimo's "disappearance" begin to come out and there is betrayal between family and friends every where with Jenna and Massimo as the target.
This is a slow slow burn, but there is an HEA. It ends on a slight cliffhanger in regards to the next "sinner" book.
Bella is an author I often recommend for those new to the mafia romance genre and well as those who have been into it for a while.
I received a copy of this book as an arc in exchange for an honest review
I got blessed with this intriguing ARC and MERCILESS SINNERS hooked me straight from the start. Brutal descriptions and all.
The FMC, Jenna, is resilient, emotionally strong, and fiercely protective. She is also a devoted mother to Amauri, who truly is her entire world. Her calculated decisions make her so compelling & it’s one of my favorite things about her character.
The MMC, Massimo, is your classic dark romance mafia anti-hero. He is ruthless, guarded, and intensely intimidating. His weakness? Feeling everything too deeply, trusting almost no one, and living by loyalty over love. But beneath that hardened exterior, the readers see a man capable of unimaginable devotion and sacrifice.
Amauri shines, too. He’s more than just the child of our leads. He’s a symbol of hope, love, and the stakes that make every choice Jenna and Massimo make matter. Watching his world shaped by love and protection gives the book calm amongst the chaos.
If you love dark, addictive mafia romance with emotional depth, unresolved history, and raw, complex characters, this book is an absolute must-read.
Sneaky little quotes that will stick with you: ~ "This is different. This is personal. This is raw." ~ “They live until he’s breathing safe air.”
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I could not put this down. Read the whole thing in a day.
The pair first meet at an extremely traumatic time in Jenna’s life. Massimo steps up & helps Jenna in the aftermath, & from there love blossoms. But Jenna is the daughter of a politician, & Massimo is a low level player working his way up in the Vegas Mafia - where his Uncle is Don. Keeping their love secret is essential, but when Jenna discovers she is pregnant & Massimo disappears, she’s forced to marry her ex boyfriend to avoid scandal for her dad. Heartbroken over Massimo & carrying his child, Jenna coasts through life for the next 10 years.
However Massimo didn’t just disappear from Jenna’s life willingly; he’s spent the last 10 years recovering from an “accident” that nearly took his life, rising up to Don after wiping out his Uncle & creating an emotionless life after the woman he loved abandoned him.
But when Jenna comes steamrolling back into his life, asking for help after her son was kidnapped & revealing the truth about his paternity; Massimo does what any Mafia Don who’s heir is threatened does & steps up.
With all the lies & misinformation between them; are they able to speak their truth & be heard by the other?
This is a dark mafia romance with a secret baby, forced proximity & found family that takes possession of you & won’t let you go.
Merciless Sinner is what happens when love is gutted, twisted into something unrecognizable, and then forced to breathe again.
Massimo and Jenna were destroyed long before this story starts. Not by each other, but by lies, control, and people who decided they were better apart. Ten years of that damage does not fade. It festers. Jenna builds a life out of sacrifice just to keep her son, binding herself to a man she does not love, surviving something that was never meant to be her life.
Then it all comes apart.
Amauri is taken. Her husband is taken. And Jenna goes back to Massimo because there is no one else. Not even her own father is willing to save them. Power matters more than blood, and that betrayal sits heavy over everything.
Massimo is still merciless. Still possessive. Still the kind of man who does not let go once something is his. And Jenna was always his.
What they have is not healed. It is not soft. It is anger and grief and want tangled together until it turns into something consuming. The truth does not fix them. It just removes the last barrier keeping them apart.
This is not redemption. It is inevitability.
Dark, suffocating, and brutal
This story will be living rent free in my head for a very long time.

It honestly feels like Bella Ray took my perfect dark romance and wrote it!! Her books always hit exactly what I love, like she turns my own ideas into stories. Merciless Sinner being the start of a new series (Empire of Sin) just makes it even better, and this one has everything: a love torn apart for ten years by lies and manipulation, with Jenna and Massimo paying the price for choices that were never truly theirs. That moment when she goes to him, after being denied by her own father, who treated her life and her son’s life like collateral, just to save their son had my heart racing. The slow burn, the tension, the pain… all of it was addictive, and I loved every second of it. I also loved the brotherhood feel and seeing familiar characters, and Jenna was exactly the kind of heroine I adore: strong, smart, and driven by her instincts as a mother, with her whole world centered around Amauri (the sweetest boy ever) after believing Massimo abandoned her. And Massimo? A ruthless, dangerous Don who rules with fear, yet becomes fiercely overprotective of Jenna and their son despite everything he believes about the past. The tension between them was unreal. It genuinely made my pulse race. And through all the lies, betrayal, conspiracies, threats and stolen choices, their second chance felt completely deserved.
Wow Wow Wow this is a book you certainly don't want to miss. Jenna gave up on love ten years ago. She married the man who sold her to save her unborn son. Now she needs the help of a man she swore she'd never speak to again. Massimo lives his life day by day. He runs Las Vegas and maintains control of his men. Ten years ago his life changed he still cares the scars it left him with. It's the only thing that still affects him, her betrayal. Knowing she married the man who hurt her. One day he'll get his answers. Except that day has just come. Jenna stands in front of him pleading for him to save her son. He has enough to deal with, his business is being infiltrated. Why should he help her she betrayed him. Walked down the aisle with another man. But then she says two words that change everything. Your son. This is a story of lies, secrets, regret and vengeance. Can he ignore what she did to save their son. Will she every find out why he left, just walked away without a word. Who really knows the truth. Is there any chance of forgiveness. Or are there more enemies waiting to come into the open. I loved everything about this story. The loyalty, trust, love and most of all forgiveness is so compelling and believable. I can't wait for Gabe's story next. Will we find out just who The Collector is
This was an incredible read. It’s one I didn’t want to end. 10 years ago there was a football player who sold his girlfriend to his coach for play time to impress scouts. This coach attempted to rape the girlfriend (Jenna) but instead of getting what he wanted he got what he deserved. Jenna ends up killing the coach. Not knowing what to do next a young man (Massimo) approaches with a plan. They bury the coach and keep a secret. Massimo comforts Jenna in the aftermath of the killing. Life happened and they are separated each thinking the other left without a word. Jenna was pregnant with Massimo’s baby. The ex-boyfriend has an accident on the field and is paralyzed. Jenna is forced by her politician father to marry the paralyzed ex-boyfriend or have an abortion to further his career. She chose the marriage. 10 years later Jenna’s son is kidnapped and she is forced to go to Massimo (who is now the Don in Vegas) and ask him to get her son (Amauri) back. He’s hesitant because he thinks she left him when he was broken in an accident and she’s forced to tell him the kid is his. From there all hell breaks loose. Massimo rescues their son. Betrayal and lies are found out. The day of reckoning is inevitable, people pay for Jenna, Amauri and Massimo’s lost time together. This was a really good read that ends in a HEA. It is very well written. I highly recommend reading it. 📖❤️🔥
Bella Ray is clearly a talented writer, and Merciless Sinner shows her ability to craft an immersive world with strong descriptive detail. However, at times the story felt weighed down by that same strength—there were moments where the narrative got lost in over-description, which led me to skim in places.
Jenna and Massimo, the main characters, were fine, but I struggled to truly connect with them. They felt a bit lacking in spark, and overall their dynamic came across as somewhat flat. The long, slow-burn romance didn’t quite work for me either—it leaned into repetition and could have benefited from tighter pacing. And yes… we definitely don’t forget they were apart for ten years—because it’s mentioned a lot.
That said, there were elements I genuinely enjoyed. The camaraderie between Massimo and the capos was a highlight, and I loved how naturally Jenna was accepted into their world. One of the standout aspects for me was the developing bond between Massimo and Amauri—it added a softness and emotional depth that I appreciated.
Overall, this is a readable and enjoyable book, even if it didn’t fully connect with me on a deeper level. I’m still interested enough in the overarching storyline that I plan to continue with Gabe’s book to see how everything unfolds.
This book had me completely hooked from the very first page. The intensity, the emotion, and the depth of the story pulled me in so effortlessly that I couldn’t put it down. Massimo and Jenna’s relationship was everything—raw, complicated, passionate, and painfully real. I didn’t just read their story, I felt it.
The way their love unfolded alongside the pain, trauma, and loyalty woven into their world was written so beautifully it felt almost cinematic. Every moment—whether it was heartbreak, tension, or tenderness—hit with full force. Their chemistry was undeniable, and the emotional weight behind their journey made it impossible not to become fully invested.
What truly stood out was how perfectly balanced everything was: the romance, the friendships, the darkness of the mafia world, and the vulnerability of the characters. Nothing felt rushed or out of place. It was all crafted with such care that I found myself completely immersed in their lives.
I was desperate to see how their story would end, but at the same time, I didn’t want it to be over. That bittersweet feeling says everything about how powerful this book is. It’s not just a story you read—it’s one that stays with you long after the final page.
This book was a five star read for me and I can’t wait for the next book!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ok listen- I wanted to apply for an other book on Booksprout and then saw this gem and had to read it
This book??? Yeah—no thoughts, just obsession.
And I don’t say that lightly because It takes a LOT to impress me, but this one had me in a chokehold.
The plot? Insane (in the best way). So many twists, perfectly set up, and every character actually feels real. The backstories hit just as hard as the present timeline, which I’m obsessed with.
Massimo??? I’m unwell. A broken, dangerous Italian Don running Las Vegas with emotional damage and anger issues? Say less. And Jenna??? Girl really said “I just killed a man” and he said “let me help you bury him.” I ate it up. 😈
Then we jump 10 years—she’s married with a kid, but to someone else! He is the king of Vegas, and they hate each other. When she shows up again, bloody and desperate because her husband and son are taken and no one will help her?? Yeah. Chaos.
I could NOT stop reading. First book by this author. Immediately added everything else to my TBR.
Highly recommend. No notes. Just vibes and emotional damage.
Holy! Cow! Just when I thought Bella Ray had reached her highest height with Ruthless King she comes back with Merciless Sinner! This is a step above Savage Kings of New York. It is grittier and even harder (Not that the Savage Kings were soft) Massimo is a hard, cold man who runs his organization with an iron fist. Jenna is a Senators daughter whose life isn't a happy one. When her son is taken she has no choice but to go to Massimo and beg him to get him back. But Jenna is no wilting violet...like some think her...she is tough and smart but more importantly she is a mama lion and will do anything to get he cub back. When Massimo finds out Amaury is his son nothing will get in his way to find and bring him home. This book has twists and turns to keep you guessing right to the end. Everybody gets what's coming to them...good and bad! Fantastic read! Fascinating characters. Gripping storyline. Superb world building. Bella Ray has swiftly become one of my favorite authors! 5 stars...I really wish I could give more!
What a freakin story! Merciless Sinner is book 1 in the Empire Of Sin series and this author has brought it in spades! This is Massimo and Jenna's emotional, dramatic, intense journey. It has all of the elements I look for in a great read and then some. This story is wrapped up in lies, secrets and betrayals and the more that came to light, the further down the rabbit I fell. Being a second chance romance just adds more intrigue to the story because nothing is as these characters think it is. This story is so beautifully written and has all the feels, good, bad and everything in between. Absolutely 100% recommend Merciless Sinner and I absolutely will be doing a reread.
"Life doesn't snap back into place all at once. It settles. Slowly. Carefully. Like something fragile learning how to trust gravity again."
"You are my truth," he finishes. "My family. My redemption. My home."
"Love does not make you weaker— It makes you precise."
"Suffering is only meaningful if it lasts. And I collect in installments."
Massimo & Jenna's story is AMAZING... I was hooked from the very first chapter & had a hard time putting it down, I loved it so much!!
The angst...and tension... the push and pull... the chemistry.... the way they just fit together in so many ways... 🤌💋
The book is told in Dual 1st person POV... and I love how you get to see a bit of the past here & there as you go along, it helps you understand things a bit more.
The book is fast paced... it didn't drag at all along the way, even though it's a pretty good sized book. And, of course, I LOVED the ending. I love how Massimo loved on Amauri from the moment they met & how Amauri treated him in return... it's a sweet relationship.
Merciless Sinner by Bella Ray was an exciting and intense read. Set in the heart of Vegas, Jenna and Massimo's journey to their HEA was filled with tension filled obstacles, but all were worthwhile.
Jenna and Massimo fell in love young. And while their love affair was covert, they were mislead and torn apart by people they trusted. Now, ten years later, Jenna's love for her son and her desire to protect him is the only thing that keeps Jenna in a loveless marriage.
The catalyst for the reunion between Massimo and Jenna is perfect and soon she reveals that her son's father is Massimo. And, hell hath no fury like an angry mob boss
I really enjoyed Ray's writing. Just when you think you've figured out a layer of the story, there's a pivot to more treachery and betrayal. The consistency of Jenna and Massimo's connection stays clear though and the romance finally kicks in after some delicious sexual tension.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Let me start by saying this is one of the best books I’ve read in a while—and I typically read and review two to three books per week. This was my first book by Bella Ray, and I enjoyed it immensely. I couldn’t put it down and ended up reading straight through the night.
Bella Ray has a captivating writing style that pulled me in from the very beginning. Merciless Sinner, Book 1 in the Empire of Sin series, is a slow burn that truly rewards patience. I loved how the author wove twists and turns throughout both the FMC and MMC’s lives—individually and together—which kept me completely engaged.
I was fully drawn in and absolutely loved Merciless Sinner. The emotional moments really hit hard, and I found myself flying through certain parts just to see what would happen next. Overall, this was a surprisingly sweet and earnest mafia romance with strong characters, great communication, and a plot that kept me invested from beginning to end.
I’m excited to continue the series.
I received a free copy of this book from BookSirens and am voluntarily leaving this review.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Loved reading this book, the trigger warnings I loved, it was so hot, dark and so so good I read it in one sitting. Her father forces her to do things by threatening to take her son away. She was forced to marry the person she hated.
Massimo Manetti- he fell for a redhead then he disappeared, now back he rules Las Vegas, he runs the Casino, and the mafia, everyone knows who he is as he is feared by most he is ruthless, dangerous, killer, and the head of the organisation. Someone is trying to set him up with laced drugs, Enzo is Massimo's right hand man he has scars on his face and like Massimo, he is ruthless, dangerous, killer.
Jenna - is not your average girl, she doesn't take crap from anyone. When he disappeared before she could tell him, someone found out who the father was about her son or did they know anyway. She needs his help after her son and husband were kidnapped, know one was spared when he found out her secret, but will he forgive her or not.
This is the first in a new series, and this is Massimo and Jenna’s story. Jenna has always loved Massimo, but he disappeared without a word, and she was forced to continue with her life. Now Jenna in an arranged marriage, with a 10-year-old son, and Massimo is a feared, ruthless, possessive, dangerous, and controlling, Las Vegas mafia boss. When Jenna’s son and husband are taken, Massino is the only one who can help, but he is demanding answers. This is a well written slow burn, action packed, emotional roller coaster, with betrayal, lies, secrets, tension, danger, suspense, intrigue, forced proximity, survival, touch her and die vibes, enemies / lovers, revelations, second chances, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, twisted, and unpredictable, dark mafia romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Massimo and Jenna have a complicated relationship. Their son is taken and she literally stops at nothing to get hm back. Massimo, however, wasn’t even aware he had a son..
"You're going to war," she wagers. "I'm going to get my son."
Massimo is hard and ruthless but I melt when he finally gets to interact with his son.
Jenna shows how caring she is. She gives so much compassion to someone that doesn’t deserve it. But in the end, the guy kinna does.?
There is a couple bonus chapters on BookFunnel that explain in detail what happened to Jenna and how she and Massimo meet. I enjoyed how he interacted with and helped her in the situation.
Bella Ray never disappoints!! There are some crossover friends from our previous series, the savage kings of New York!
Basically if you like dark romance, dominant, morally grey mafia men… you will enjoy this. It is a slow burn book but I enjoy there is a plot to the book and it’s not all… smutt 🤷🏼♀️
I don't know where to start... The story is generally very good and I liked it, but it's long and at the same time there were strange moments. Let's not start with the thoughts of the characters, which are 80% of the book... There are not so many conversations between the characters as we read their internal and independent thoughts and sufferings... I skipped so much because at one point they started repeating themselves and believe me I didn't miss anything... Only after 20+ chapters did they start talking and find out who lied to them, the rest of the time it was just self talking.... Then FMC and MMC haven't seen each other for 10 years FMC comes and says "you have a son" and immediately MMC believes and you don't even ask what he looks like or doubt if it's true, she's married after all.... I really want to start the next one out of curiosity about Gabriel, but I'm afraid it's just thoughts again....
