Arden’s back with a new mystery, new paramours, and this time he’s even hotter.
Summer has come early to idyllic Lilbury, and Arden Forrest isn’t the only one awoken from hibernation after the long winter.
The village is abuzz with news of a forthcoming by-election, which has several surprising faces running for a chance at Parliament.
However, rivalries abound, and tempers flare as the race – and the weather – heats up. It’s not long before tragedy occurs, and Arden stumbles over his least favourite thing: a dead body.
Who murdered the aspiring politician? What connection did they have to Lilbury, and why is Simon, the village’s handsome handyman, personally involved?
It looks like to find the murderer and stop his one-time flame from taking the fall for it, Arden is going to have to solve the mystery, risk his life, find the dangerous killer and face his all-time worst fear: excessive sweating in public.
James Quentin is a UK-based writer of romance, crime, and murder mysteries ...and a bit of satire, maybe some thriller if he's feeling daring. Hell, even some smut if he doesn't feel too consumed by red-cheeked shame that day.
If you like sarcastic main characters who are more real than manic pixie, a bit of self-indulgent inner monologue, and ruggedly handsome love interests that seem to be sans shirt more often than they should be then you've come to the right place.
Oh, and there's usually a murder to solve, too. That's important. Shouldn't forget that.
Loved it. It was good to be back in Lilbury. I don't think this take place a great deal of time after the last murder. Feel so sorry for Arden , always in the middle of things and friends wanting him to help them solve the mystery. I never guessed the killer and it was a surprise. Sure hope there are more Lilbury stories coming.
I was excited to dive into this after loving The Lilbury Murder, and truly could not put this sequel down.
Quentin delivers a brilliantly crafted whodunnit that both celebrates parodies British soap operas and murder mysteries, while participating in both genres. The result is a genuinely suspense-filled page turner that blends camp, drama, comedy, heart, and camp again. You’ll get lost in the world that he’s built and love (or hate, or find yourself attracted to) the characters that inhabit it.
