The book was okay, but it had a lot of issues. The editing could have been better as the book drags and gets bogged down so much it loses momentum and this reader got bored and read other books before returning to finish this book. Maybe the dual authors had problems getting in sync. This book follows the general guidelines of the series , lycan finds his mate, pursues the human, forms bond, rejects their mate, suffers and then reconciliation occurs.
This book did all of that but it also had a major " must save the lycan kingdom " part that was so lengthy it was verging into a Saga. While par for the course in a lot of supernatural books I didn't expect to find that in this "Bookish" series.
This series started as a romance that used the paranormal as a hook, but as it has increased in size, and with all the author changes you never know what you are going to get from a book this series. Is it going to be a relationship book that has a message, soft porn with no substance, or the trite paranormal default type book?
What do I mean about default settings? Authors of paranormal have three default settings for their plots. They either focus ,as Christine Feehan did, on (1) troubling societal problems like abuse, human trafficking, environmental issues, etc. dressed up as a problem that vampires, shape shifters have to make them more palatable or(2) the authors write soft porn where a hapless human is taken by an alien, shape shifter, or Vamp and sex becomes" love" or (3) lastly you have books with a good verses evil battle .
Sadly, rarely do you find a series that is basically is good romance that has the paranormal as the hook but that could leave out the paranormal bits and still be a good book.
These authors have written good relationships romance books with the paranormal hook in previous books. I was very disappointed that they didn't do that in this book. Without the " supernatural \ paranormal " this book would not be viable.
Then to make matters worse this book seriously needed condensing. The author also seemed to have problems with the natural arc of the story. They just didn't seem to know where to end this book. This book needed so much help I don't understand all the 4* ratings . I guess people who like battle saga paranormal really liked it. I was looking for a Romcom with a shifter hook so I was Disappointed.
This has so many turns. We have Bewitched. We have the Good Witch. We also have Ghost. The film had angels coming for the good and Demons coming for the bad.Mostly it was a great story. There were many errors in the printing.
A fun and enjoyable romance with paranormal elements. Fated mate, magic, a curse. Falling in love while handling the situations that impede their path. Fun and well developed characters who work well together and are believable in their romance.
