Bridesmaids and Broomsticks

Rate this book
Hazel Lark's life is low drama, controlled magic, and absolutely no romance-just the way she likes it. As a witch who knows exactly how messy feelings can get, she prefers her wards strong and her heart well-protected. That is, until her coven encourages her to become a bridesmaid in her best friend Lena's wedding. It should be simple-what could go wrong? Well, her ex is the best man.

Wyatt Beaumont is laid-back, charming, and surprisingly grounded for a man who is looking for an escape of his own. Being forced into a political marriage by his family was not in his five-year plan, and he's anything but excited over the ordeal. What he needs is a distraction, preferably entertaining.

After a disastrous miscommunication, Hazel is on the hunt for a hot date to the wedding. And Wyatt? Pretending to be Hazel's boyfriend for a few weeks is just the distraction he needs. But between charged glances, flirty banter, pre-wedding rituals, and Hazel's antagonistic ex doing his best to stir trouble, pretending starts to feel dangerously convincing. As lines blur and walls come down, Hazel and Wyatt must decide whether they're just playing a clever game-or risking something neither of them planned to give away.

This was such a pleasant and fun read! It made me laugh, too! I felt like I needed something lighter after some of the darker reads I've had recently and this was just perfect. The characters are extremely like-able, and I felt that the storyline was actually a bit different than other romances. It was a unique take on a witchy story! Definitely pick this one up! 🤎

Fake dating + magic + wedding drama? Say less.

Bridesmaids and Broomsticks is a cozy witchy romcom with a soft, slow-burn romance. Hazel, an empath, gets tangled up in a fake dating situation with Wyatt Beaumont, and of course… feelings get messy. Think forced proximity, emotional tension, and just enough magic to make it

What really shines is the emotional core. Hazel’s empath abilities add depth to her journey, making it not just about romance, but about healing, self-worth, and learning to open herself up again.

Overall, it’s soft, a little angsty, and full of heart—perfect if you’re in the mood for cozy magic and slow-burn chemistry.

I would like to thank Beyond The Books PR for the chance to read it before release date.

If you love fake dating and cozy witch vibes, add this to your TBR 🖤

"Not quite. I like romance, yeah, but not the rehearsed, Instagram-filtered kind. More like finding the perfect beignet during a thunderstorm. It's messy and unexpected, but worth the powdered sugar all over your shirt."

Swoon! That quote is the whole book. And I was absolutely here for every single bite of it as I read this ARC. Thank you to Beyond the Books PR for a chance to read for an honest review!

Hazel is a witch, an empath who keeps her wards strong and her heart locked up tight, and as someone who knows exactly what it feels like to carry everyone else's emotions around like uninvited luggage, I felt her exhaustion in my bones. When Larkspur writes "what it was like to wake up every day, drowning in other people's emotions and feigning being fine" I had to put my kindle down for a second and just breathe because it's me.

And then there's Wyatt. A gentleman wrapped in a sultry suit, armed with charm and a surprisingly soft heart. The Creole vibes throughout this whole book gave me the most delicious nostalgia for my favorite comic book couple and I loved every second of it.

The coven in this book deserves its own standing ovation. A beautiful Black coven written with love, authenticity, and zero stereotype. We need so much more of this in fiction and Larkspur delivered it so naturally it felt like coming home.

Fake dating. Chosen family. A meddling ex. Spice that earns its place. And a line that stopped me cold: "You don't owe forgiveness to people who only feel sorry once they're caught. You don't owe softness to people who twisted your kindness." Gah. That's my mantra this year.

This gumbo spiced pot of a book gets five stars and an 18 on the d20. The only reason it's not a natural 20 is that some moments felt slightly repetitive, but honestly? I'd eat this again tomorrow.

I'm giving this book a 4.25 ⭐️ rating.

Hazel, the FMC and witch, left her home that she shared with her roommates and best friends, because she needed to 'turn off' the noise in her head as well as to get away from her ex boyfriend Aiden. She moves to Louisiana to rebuild her life and start fresh.

Wyatt, the MMC and witch, is engaged to Celeste but not by choice. It's an arranged married that was decided years ago. Neither want to be married to each other, but are doing their duty as witches. This arranged marriage is to happen soon, as they are supposed to 'produce' the perfect witch, a perfect balance.

Hazel needs to find a date... fast, for her best friends wedding but has no prospects. All she knows is he needs to be super hot to make Aiden jealous and to prove to her friends that she is OK and that she has moved on with her life.

Unexpectedly, Hazel meets a man, Wyatt, while in line at the coffee shop. He overhears her on the phone with her best friends and volunteers for the job of being her 'pretend' date for the upcoming wedding that she didnt ask him to do. She's like no way, she will find her own date, until she doesn't. She agrees that yes she needs his services after all. So for 2 weeks they pretend that Wyatt is her sexy, loving and devoted boyfriend.

That's all that I want to give away on this story. You HAVE to read this for yourself! Its such a cute, fast paced, fun read. I really think anyone who reads it will feel the same.

As Always.... HAPPY READING!!!!

Thank you to Beyond The Books PR and the author for the eARC!💕

Hazel is hesitant to attend the wedding of her best friend as her ex is the best-man.
Meanwhile, Wyatt is forced into an arranged marriage and just needs to a little distraction.
Wyatt happens to overhear Hazel's phone conversation with her friends and agrees to be her fake wedding date.
Lines blur, feelings grow. Are Hazel and Wyatt still playing fake or have the stakes turned real for both of them?

This is the second book I have read from Lily A Larkspur and I have to say that she is now one of my favourite romance author😍
I absolutely loved this book! The writing is exceptional I wasn't bored one bit. The fun filled flirty banter between Hazel and Wyatt had me giggling all the time. I resonated a lot with Hazel, her characterization is so perfect. As someone who also quietly distance myself when I think I am being too much, I felt so seen. And where can i find a man like Wyatt please?🤌🏻
The plot also explores so many other themes such as loyalty, ups and downs of friendship and family dynamics, it was all given equal attention. And the slow burn is so good❤️‍🔥
Overall, if you are looking for a light-hearted romance with fake dating, open door, flirty banters, slow burn with a pinch of magic, I highly recommend it.

I loved this book. It was a whole load of fun, angst, magic and drama, and I was loving every page of it.

The characters of Wyatt and Hazel were full of hidden depths and conflicts. I loved their meet-cute, Wyatt eavesdropping on Hazel's conversation about needing to bring a date to her friend's wedding and just offering himself up on a delicious Magical Cajun platter for her.

The steady, slow burn of their relationship was delicious. Wyatt was such a strong and steady presence, whilst Hazel was spiralling. Her magic power was the ability to read emotions in the room, and when many emotions start spiking all at once, it’s too much for Hazel, and she crashes, but Wyatt is always there by her side. He can silence them, but he chooses not to mute her, but help her ride the crest and come down calmer.

The dynamics of the friend group were interesting; Hazel always felt like she was too much for the others. Her ex was a definite a-hole, and you always got the feeling there was more behind their break-up, and the conclusion of the book brings this to the forefront and shifts the whole group dynamic. I felt the conclusion of this drama was played out well, those at fault getting what they deserved. I did feel a little sorry for a certain young man; he didn’t deserve his outcome, but there really was no other course. I’m so glad Wyatt and Hazel came through the terrible drama and finally got their HEA.

Bridesmaids and Broomsticks by Lily A. Larkspur was a delightful, charming read. I was captivated from the first page and enjoyed every moment.

I absolutely adored our FMC, Hazel, and our MMC, Wyatt, isn’t so bad himself. They meet by chance in a coffee shop (where Wyatt eavesdrops on Hazel’s phone conversation) and have pretty instant chemistry, even if Hazel wants to deny it at first. Wyatt, being the confident, somewhat cocky man he is, gives Hazel his number, which she’s certain she’ll never use, but life has a way of making decisions for us sometimes, and this is one of those times for Hazel. She tries to ignore Wyatt even though he’s charming, funny, and handsome, but when she realizes she needs a date to an old friend's wedding, she decides to enlist Wyatt, in the hopes of making her nasty ex jealous, and things go from there.

The characters, story, and setting in Bridesmaids and Broomsticks are perfection. Larkspur’s writing is beautiful and does an amazing job of drawing you in and making you feel like you’re right there with Hazel and Wyatt as they navigate the wedding, their own problems, and their growing attraction and connection to each other. The story flows naturally, making it entertaining and easy to read. It’s perfect for when you’re looking for a sweet escape read that is deeper than your average romance.

My Synopsis & Review
Hazel has moved away from her coven to heal & refine her empathic abilities. They reunite for a wedding in NOLA that puts her in close quarters with her douchebag ex-boyfriend. She enlists the help of a handsome stranger, Wyatt, to act as her boyfriend. Two weeks among old friends and a new companion leads to many revelations and surprises.
Hazel and Wyatt have big decisions to make before the arrangement ends. And Hazel's coven may never be the same.
This story is much deeper than it appears. It explores the limits and facets of loyalty. It is a slow game of "will they, won't they" between Hazel and Wyatt. But it is a surprisingly deep and sudden connection. There's equal attention given to the coven dynamics and the growing pains of friendship.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. The romantic tension was satisfying with just enough spice (TW: c**k usage). It is a slow paced emotional ride that made me reconsider my own friendship dynamics. It's a cozy healing, self-discovery story with romance along with way.

This was such an easy one to settle into. The mix of witchy elements, wedding chaos and fake dating made it a really fun setup without ever feeling over the top.

Hazel was a great FMC, I like how grounded she feels especially with her guarded approach to emotions and relationships. It made her reactions feel believable, particularly once Wyatt starts to slip past those carefully built walls. Wyatt balanced her well, he has a laid back charm but with depth underneath, coming from his gamily pressure and looming marriage.

Their dynamic carried the story for me, the banter felt natural, their chemistry built at a steady pace and the fake dating didn’t feel forced. I also liked how the wedding setting kept things moving, with just enough tension from Hazel's ex, and an under current of something else, to keep it interesting without being overly dramatic.

The magical element added a fantasy layer without taking over the story. It stayed very character focused, which works well for this kind of romance.

Overall, a light, enjoyable read with a good balance of humour, heart and just a touch of magic.

I. Loved. This. Book.

If you are looking for a book that will give you actual, physical emotional reactions - you must get Lily Larkspur’s “Bridesmaids and Broomsticks”. This book pulled at all of my heartstrings; I laughed out loud, I clutched my pearls, I got angry and ragey, I teared up. All of the feels.

Larkspur’s writing is just absolutely beautiful. She is able to give all of her characters life and personality and depth in her descriptions and dialogues. She gives you insight into how they all are thinking - even the side characters. The plot unfolds like a storybook, and the passion between the FMC and MMC burns slowly until it erupts. Her writing lends the more intimate scenes to feel just that - intimate and sensual rather than just spice because the audience demands it. The friendships are so well portrayed and the way that the main characters go from “meet-cute” and evolve throughout the book is just absolute fake-dating rom com movie material (and I would buy those tickets in advance).

If you’re looking for a book with cozy-witchy-bestie vibes, you need to grab “Bridesmaids and Broomsticks” like, yesterday. You won’t regret it.

I totally wish I could give this book more than 5 stars -- it was one of the best, most emotionally layered works of art I have ever read!

Hazel's character called me out in so many ways I was hyperventilating every other chapter. I don't think anyone has ever written an empath character as well as Lily just did. Its not just about the emotions- its so much more and she captured that so clearly and perfectly.

And Wyatt? Talk about YEARNING. Gosh every chapter was a love letter to Hazel and I swooned.

Bridesmaids and Broomsticks is a fake dating, forced Proximity, magical, coven style romcomish book -- but really its so much more than that and possible one of my favorite books i have ever read.

Its family obligation and tragic love you think you can't have. Its learning to accept that you deserve good things and that your past doesn't define you. Its recognizing that you can accept help and feel defeat and still not be a burden.

THANK YOU to the author & Beyond the Books PR for the ARC copy of this book.

What caught my eye about this book was the cover, it was fun, bright and everything I needed after the dark fantasy I have been reading recently.

God these two main characters are so loveable! The feels were feeling in this book, I loved reading about Hazel and Wyatt work through their fake wedding date and explore their feelings whilst supporting eachother. We love emotionally intelligent mc’s🫶🏼

When I started reading this book, I thought it was going to be a very easy romance read full of all my favourite tropes, and it was…but it was also so much deeper than I originally thought!

This book explored a lot of themes I wasn’t expecting such as exploring how emotional/social battery is affected by those around you, the power of friendship and that your ex is a dick, he does not deserve your time. I thrived on this because I seen parts of myself within Hazel.

This book was such a welcome surprise and I would definitely recommend it for a feel good romance read.

Thank you so much to beyond the books PR for this ARC!!

I received an e-arc via Beyond The Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Woooo Chile! The emotional rollercoaster and whiplash I got reading this book. First off, the author did a brilliant job giving each character personality and individual voices. Secondly Bravo, you made me want to throw hands on behalf of Hazel. Hazel and Wyatt, I loved how they interacted with one another from beginning to end. The growth they were able to manifest because of one another was amazing. Even when I thought I could predict what was going to happen next, most of the time I was wrong but hey I still enjoyed the anticipation of what was going to happen as I turned each page. Yes there's magic, but that's not all that was important, it was a big part buy not the most important lesson or detail. Friendship and relationships whether romantic or platonic were most important. This book made me want to visit New Orleans even more and I was hungry for food and other things 😉 lol If you like magic, spicy scenes, and real emotions, then you can't go wrong with reading this book.

This was my first time reading a book by this author, and I might be hooked! I liked this book way more than I thought I would. It had angst, secrets, magic, drama, and fake dating. It has almost everything you need and want in a romance!

I love how relatable the characters were. Hazel, the FMC, has been gaslighted almost her whole life. Been told she is too much and has felt like a burden. Wyatt, the MMC, doesn't make her feel that way; he makes her feel safe and seen. He stands up for her and supports her even when crap is hitting the fan.

This was such a cute and fun read! I really enjoyed the characters and the story! I will say I would like more of Wyart and Hazel. I would like to see their life later on. I am hopeful there will be more books, and we will get to see these characters again… maybe not Lena.

Thank you for the ARC. I enjoyed the book, and all opinions in this review are my own!

Omg this book is fun a lighthearted read that blends romance, humour, and some witchy magic into an entertaining story.

It follows the bridesmaids navigating wedding chaos, friendships, and unexpected supernatural twists, making it both relatable and oh so whimsical.

One of the strongest aspects of the book is its characters. Each bridesmaid has a distinct personality, and their interactions feel natural and engaging.

The friendships are relatable, with tension, support, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments

The writing style is easy and enjoyable, making it a great choice for a relaxing read.

The pacing is steady, a little repetitive, especially in the romantic elements. But the charm of the characters and the humour make up for this.

If you want a fun magical read come and join hazel and Wyatt as they navigate fake dating and all the mess that comes along .

This was a soft, light and cozy romance, kept me entertained till the last page. Wyatt was charming and fun-loving, searching for something real. I loved their slow-burn connection, emotional development and especially the flirty banter.

Hazel attracted people's emotion, which was sometimes messy, tangled and quite uncomfortable, but Wyatt worked as a stabilizer and always stood by her side like a real boyfriend.

The ending was completely satisfying also a little shocking, but I truly enjoyed this one.

This book was evenly paced but some chapters were really slow and I also found it a bit repetitive when it came to Hazel's feelings and emotions. Though it was a nice one with a refreshing concept and I would definitely recommend it to those who love a little magic, a witchy friend circle and swoon- worthy romance.

Thank you beyond the books pr for sending me this ARC copy

Bridesmaid and Broomsticks by Lily A. Larkspur is a fun mix of fake dating, magic, wedding chaos, and just the right amount of mischief. The premise hooked me right away, and I enjoyed the whimsical vibe woven throughout the story.

This is definitely a slow burn, which worked well in some places but felt a bit drawn out in others. Wyatt was easily my favorite part of the book—charming, patient, and just genuinely likable. He really carried a lot of the emotional weight for me.

Hazel, on the other hand, took some time to warm up to. I had a harder time connecting with her at the beginning, but as the story progressed, she showed more depth and growth, and I ended up appreciating her journey more by the end.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read with a cute romance and magical touches, even if it didn’t fully sweep me off my feet. A solid 3 stars for a light, entertaining story.

I loved Lily’s debut novel so add the New Orleans setting for Bridesmaids and Broomsticks, I had high expectations for this and Lily didn’t just deliver, she mastered! I absolutely devoured Hazel and Wyatt’s story.

It had a quirky grown up ‘The Princess and the Frog’ vibe which I am so here for with added emotional chaos, magical mishaps and because it’s for the adults, some spice too 🔥

The banter? Sparkling like a freshly charged crystal.

The tension? Thicker than a potion brewed under a full moon.

The fake dating? So convincing I started questioning reality itself.

And in all of that, there was something deeper brewing too - vulnerability and trust - which just gave an endearing rawness 🥺

This book is a charming, easygoing read that delivers comfort and entertainment. The book is messy and unexpected a light hearted paranormal romance.

The story follows a magical backdrop where witches, romance, and wedding festivities collide. As relationships unfold and emotions surface, the narrative focuses on love, personal connections, and the chaos that comes with both magic and weddings. The story has limited character development and lacks emotional depth.

Larkspur’s writing is simple, conversational, and accessible. The narrative doesn’t rely on heavy descriptions or complex language, which makes the book highly readable.

If you are in the mood for cozy magic and slow burn chemistry then you should pick this book up.

Wedding Drama ✔️
Fake Dating ✔️
Witches ✔️
Set in New Orleans ✔️

This novel is set in New Orleans and describes it so well, you will feel like you are (without the humidity). Hazel is our FMC and a gorgeous coming into her own witch. While our MMC Wyatt is tall, handsome, and speaks Nola cajun. These two enter into a fake dating situationship to help Hazel with drama from her coven at an upcoming wedding. Drama definitely follows.
I thought this novel was really well written. I loved all the culture and how authentic it felt. Hazel's emotional turmoil and growth was well developed throughout the novel.
Some parts felt repetitive which slowed the pacing down quite a bit but when the twist happens, everything blows up in true wedding drama fashion.

✨Arc review✨ this book at first glance is a fun, fake dating, strangers to lovers, he fell first, witchy, cozy romcom but it is so much deeper than that, this book is about two people finding their person, it’s about our FMC coming to terms with the fact that she isn’t “too much” for someone to love, she just hadn’t found the right person yet, it’s about learning to love yourself and reconnecting with friends who never truly left. It’s about our MMC learning that he can live his life for him, he doesn’t have to bend to the will of family just because that is what is expected of him, he just needed to find the right person to show him that. Overall I adored this book! Hazel is feisty and real and Wyatt is so swoon worthy! 🩷🫠⭐️

This was a fun read! Had The Wedding Date vibes but witchy!
I loved being in New Orleans, the setting was perfect for this type of story. Easy going and magical. I could imagine Wyatt’s smooth French Cajun accent as well. I loved their banter too!

Hazels story was a hard one but important. She really needed to learn how to stand up for herself and I loved that Wyatt was there in the way that she needed and he ended up being what he himself needed as well!

Perfect for those who enjoy:

🩷 Fake dating
💛 Wedding date
🩷 Open door
💛 Forced proximity
🩷 Flirty banter all the way
💛 Magic!!!

Thank you for the arc from beyond the books PR.

The dedication immediately pulled me in and honestly set my expectations pretty high. The themes around Black girls being told they take up too much space really resonated with me, and I could see what the story was trying to do with the FMC and her powers through that lens.

Unfortunately, the story itself did not fully land for me. The world and vibe were cute, and I liked the MMC more than the FMC, but I never became emotionally invested. For me, it felt caught between cozy fantasy and a romance with emotional depth without fully leaning into either.

Meeeep! I loved how Hazel and Wyatt met in this book! She is on the phone with her girl gang coven, listening to them all babble about one of their upcoming weddings. One small problem: Hazel's ex-boyfriend is the best man, and Hazel has no desire to attend.
Wyatt is looking for an escape from his controlled and planned out life. Pretending to be Hazel's boyfriend may be just the lifeline he needed.
If wedding dates, fake dating, forced proximity, magic, flirty banter and spice are among your top tropes, this one is for you!

Hazel, a witch with empathy powers, needs a date for her best friend's wedding - STAT. Her horrible ex is the groom's best friend and her entire coven is about to descend on New Orleans in a few days. Lucky for her, Wyatt overhears her conversation and offers himself up for fake-dating duty. Hazel is hesitant, so used to holding herself back from anyone and everything that might cause her emotions and powers to flare, but Wyatt charms her just enough to make it believable. The fact that he's an emotional anchor is a huge plus. Can they make it through a chaotic 2 weeks with her friends and her ex?

LOVED this book! I loved Hazel so so much. I was so sad for her that she felt like she had to leave her friends, but I was so glad that she stood up for herself and found what she needed. And Wyatt! That man could charm money out of a rock. He SAW her, but didn't ever need to save her. He just gently took care of her and I was smitten. I loved the New Orleans setting. It was perfect for a witchy wedding! I would 100% recommend this book to lovers of contemporary romance or paranormal romance, who are down for grumpy (with a reason) x charming, and want to swoon over a Cajun French-speaking witch. It would be perfect for someone who loves "The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches" or other books like that, but with a little more spice. 😊

I had such high hopes for this one. Like witches, fake dating, slow burn, I thought it would be a good one. The vibes just were not there for me. I struggled to finish it.

There was a lot of French that I didn’t understand and I feel like it took away from the dialogue for me. The slow burn was a slooooooooow burn.

The fake dating wasn’t terrible, and the way they fell for each other did feel organic. I was presently surprised by the ending and Celeste’s move, and Wyatt’s father’s acceptance.

I picked up Bridesmaids and Broomsticks for the witchy fake dating vibes and stayed for absolutely everything else. The magic felt so real and lived in, the coven gave me serious found family feelings, and the Creole atmosphere was so richly written I could practically feel it. But Hazel and Wyatt wrecked me in the best and most wonderful way.

Hazel is written so honestly that i saw myself in her more times than I am comfortable admitting and Wyatt is the MMC that just loves you quietly and consistently that is just so beautiful to read.

This book is so much more than its tropes it's about learning you deserve love and asking for help doesn't make you a burden and that the messy parts of you deserve love too.
