Four-time Carol Award winner Jenny B. Jones writes contemporary romance with wit, sass, and Southern charm. Since writing for both women and teens leaves her with very little free time, she believes in spending her spare hours in meaningful, intellectual pursuits, such as watching E!, going to the movies and inhaling large buckets of popcorn, and writing her name in the dust on her furniture. www.jennybjones.com

Having Jenny B Jones words on my kindle again made my heart happy. I wanted to devour this book instantly but took my time to savor Duke and Tillie’s story.

This heartfelt, hilarious romance was worth the wait in every way! Duke is seriously hands down the best book boyfriend and best book friend. This man let Tillie know in every way just what she means to him. Even through the miscommunication he held his temper and rectified his mistakes in an instant.

I am hoping this book at the end is setting up what I pray is the next book because I can tell that is going to be an instant must read.

A little more than three years ago, I stumbled upon a novella that was mostly set in England and had a pair of opposite gender best friends, but being new to Bookstagram, I didn’t know if anyone else had read this. Fast forward in time, I see a trusted friend had recently bought a paperback by the same title and author to the story I still remembered with much fondness…founding out that it had been modified slightly but at its heart was the same story I remembered, I knew that I needed the updated version!

This story centers around Tillie and Duke on their trip across the pond for one of his teammate’s weddings! While this seems straight forward, the engaged couple are his best friend and ex, who he wants to show them that he’s quite comfortable with their relationship status as he’s with Tillie now. But is he really?! Half true, Duke has gotten Tillie to agree to a fake relationship to fool everyone including himself! Tillie is all for the frivolity of festivities and even force smiles around the bride, who she never got along with. But over the week the best friends have the resolve and feelings put the test. Perhaps this might be the time that they take some risks.
I still love this story! While only minor changes were done and some additional things were thrown in, I’m still throwing pompoms around like parade candy! These two are so raw and real that you can feel everything! While I haven’t read other stories by Jenny B. Jones, I can easily see myself adding more of her books to my TBR! Job well done on reminding of how lovely this story is. At the end of the day I think I can safely say, we all hope to have a love and connection as strong as Duke and Tillie’s!

I really loved the first two books in this series. i will say this started out really good but at 40% in this felt oddly flat and repetitive. I hung in there and finished because I really really enjoy all of Jenny B. Jones' books. But I couldn't stay engaged here.

Content: Kissing only. No triggers.

Happy reading!

I originally received this as a free copy from the author and later reread the extended version on Kindle Unlimited. I genuinely loved the added content. The friendship, the chemistry, and all the chaotic shenanigans made it such a fun read.

There is a classic miscommunication trope, and when the misunderstanding is finally revealed, it becomes a little chaotic but in a way that’s still humorous and entertaining. I also loved getting a glimpse of the siblings from her other series. It made me miss them and hope we finally get the next book soon.

Overall, this one was charming, funny, and full of heart.

Quotes:

“You’re the Power Ball, Tillie. You’re the pot of gold. You’re the championship ring. You’re…” I struggled to think of another metaphor. “You get the idea.” “I do.” “You’re my first pick, always. Do you get that I’ve loved you for years?” Her eyes glistened with happy tears. “I’m starting to.”

I love the author's writing voice and wit. I wish she had another title in the works! There was a lot of humor and wit packed in this shorter read. However, all the elements to make a good story were here and not rushed just because it was a shorter book. The two main characters dialogue was gold! Pure gold!! My only caveat is the one bed mini trope. Just not a fan. However, admittingly that is a personal preference. The Hero was a grand gesture guy but it was done in a non over the top way. A more sweet and subtle way. I am also not a fan of grand gestures because sometimes it can feel a little fake in a story but this did not have that feel at all. He was a great guy so in love and I loved reading about them coming together. (I did think he did his best friend a little dirty by not telling him what his fiancee was up to.) A fun and witty read.

3.5 ⭐️

This was very cute! Duke was top tier book boyfriend material! Tillie was… a bit of a spazz, but I think her heart was in the right place. Her complete meltdown at the end was cringy though. Overall, this was a quick, sweet friends to lovers.

Cute at times but the novella format resulted in a romance that felt way too rushed. I did love what I assume was a little Easter Egg about a future full length book in the series though..
