This book starts with the kind of chaos that makes you sit up straight like, “oh we’re doing THIS today.” You’re minding your business, trying to rebuild your life, and suddenly you’re accidentally sexting a silver‑fox firefighter who is… wait for it… your son’s father. The man who disappeared nine years ago. The man who left you with a baby and a broken heart. The man who has NO idea he’s been flirting with the mother of his child.
And then your house catches fire. Because of course it does. Archer never met a plot twist she didn’t want to throw like a grenade.
The firefighter who shows up? Caleb Rourke. The one who claimed your innocence, vanished, and left you raising a little boy with his exact eyes. He walks back into your life covered in smoke and regret, and suddenly you’re homeless, overwhelmed, and — plot twist — moving in with him.
Peak small‑town drama. Peak forbidden tension. Peak “oh no, he’s hot AND responsible now.”
Caleb is classic silver‑fox energy: steady, protective, quietly intense, and absolutely blindsided by the truth he never saw coming. He’s a single dad, a firefighter, and a man who has spent nearly a decade trying to outrun his past — only to have it show up on his doorstep in the form of a little boy who looks exactly like him.
The FMC? She’s strong, tired, emotional, and doing her best. She’s been carrying the weight of the world alone, and you feel every ounce of that exhaustion. But she’s also messy, brave, and absolutely DONE letting life push her around.
The sexting twist? Hilarious. Awkward. Deliciously chaotic.
The reunion? Messy in the best way.
The emotional payoff? Warm, satisfying, and exactly what this couple needed after nine years of unfinished business.
This one is a perfect blend of:
small‑town gossip
firefighter drama
secret‑baby tension
forced proximity
and a silver fox who finally steps up
A fiery, emotional, small‑town second‑chance romance with a heroine who deserves softness and a hero who finally grows into the man she needed all along — all wrapped in classic Archer chaos.
I thought with the amount of books this author has and the tropes, this would be safe but it’s shit Never again He left after taking her V card, never try to contact her, he lied, lives his best life and never try to contact her! He came back to town and for two months avoid her and stay away… he flirts, he is a jerk to her, thinks about having sec and getting laid with OW, he thinks about his daughters teacher, he has a daughter never mentioned before, you can choose!
I keep reading try to find something but honestly it’s just getting worse so adios DNF 30% and never again this author! What is wrong with romance writers later? Not even romance land is cool anymore and why is like every heroine is poor and lives with two shirts and can’t afford rent? We don’t need men to pay anymore… we are going backwards… What a way to start my freaking day!

Piper is barely keeping her head above water when she makes a desperate decision that spirals far beyond what she ever imagined. What starts as a reckless attempt to solve her financial problems quickly turns disastrous when her home catches fire, putting both her and her young son in danger. Thankfully, they escape unharmed—but the firefighter who arrives on the scene is none other than Caleb, the man she once loved… and the father of her child, who has no idea he even has a son.
Piper has spent years guarding her heart. After being abandoned too many times, Caleb’s sudden disappearance—especially after promising he wasn’t going anywhere—cut deeper than she expected. When she later found out she was pregnant, she chose to face it alone rather than risk being hurt again. She never told him the truth.
Now fate has thrown them back together, and with Piper and her son temporarily staying under Caleb’s roof, old feelings quickly resurface. The chemistry is still there, but so is the unresolved pain and unanswered questions that drove them apart in the first place.
One of the highlights for me was their son. I thought he was so sweet. My only critique is that certain plot points could have used a bit more depth and clarity, while a few emotional beats felt slightly overemphasized.
Overall, it’s an emotional second-chance romance filled with tension, heart, and the hope of rebuilding what was once lost.

Sexting the Firefighter: A Secret Baby, Small Town Romance by Liz Archer is pure small-town fire — and yes, it absolutely burns in the best way. Caleb and Piper’s second-chance romance kicks off when her house literally goes up in flames and the firefighter rescuing her is the man who left her pregnant nine years ago. Add secret baby + anonymous sexting + forced proximity? I was hooked from page one. What I loved most was the emotional weight beneath all that sizzling chemistry. Piper’s quiet strength as a single mom and Caleb’s slow realization of what he lost made every charged glance and late-night text hit harder. The tension? Sinfully delicious. I stayed up way too late turning pages. Liz Archer’s writing is fast, addictive, and steamy without losing heart. If I had one tiny quibble, it’s that I wanted even more grovel — but honestly, I was too busy swooning to complain. Hot firefighter, secret baby drama, and second-chance feels that will set your Kindle on fire. Five blazing stars.
Caleb spent six months in a small town with Piper nine years ago before abruptly leaving. Now he’s back, and when he runs into Piper again, you can’t help but wonder—was finding her really not part of his plan, or is he just telling himself that?
This standalone has all the tropes: small town, single parent, secret baby, and financial struggles. Piper lost her virginity to Caleb, and only a week late she discovered she was pregnant. She’s spent years raising their child on her own, building a life while dealing with the hurt he left behind.
Watching Caleb return and try to resist the urge to reinsert himself into Piper’s life makes you question whether she can ever truly trust him again. The story does a great job exploring that emotional conflict, along with the challenges of forgiveness, responsibility, and second chances.
If you enjoy spicy emotional second-chance romances with strong small-town vibes and high-stakes family drama, this book will definitely pull you in.
I enjoyed this story, and like all of the other stories from Liz Archer, the story does not disappoint. Piper and Caleb well once a couple, but Caleb left her behind only to discover she was pregnant and becoming a single mum. Now it’s 10 years later, and Piper has a secret that she doesn’t want Caleb to knowing, but when she accidentally burned her house down, Caleb is with the fire department and the sparks are still there between them. Will Caleb step up to the plate and help her raise their son? This couple had heat between them, now will the second chance give them what they need? They eventually have their happily ever after together.

First off, Piper and Caleb need to have a few lessons on basic biology. They’ve got chemistry down pat. That said…
A few anonymous sexts, a house fire, secret babies, a hit man from Boston, a stolen fire truck…this one had it all. While we know Piper and Caleb will end up HEA, this one took a little longer to get there. This was my first romance with an insurance inspector character.
The 🌶️ scenes were 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. Pipe and Caleb are well written. I’d have liked them to come together as a couple a little faster but…hey…this was a solid read. Especially if you’re someone who likes a firefighter.

Piper is reunited with Caleb when her house burns down and needs a place for her and her son to stay. While the attraction between them has never left their past puts them at a distance. Trust is all but gone and secrets remain. The tension that emanates from this situation was entirely entertaining. How long can two people with a connection so strong avoid each other? I also enjoyed the added mystery of danger from an outside party, which added some heart pounding moments to this exciting read.

Oh, my stars Liz had me hooked looking at the cover and reading all about Caleb and Piper starting with the very first page. This is a book that is sinfully delicious and hot. I am going to need several cold showers after I finished reading this AMAZING 10-star book just so I can cool down. I have been telling my friends to read this book because it's magnificent. I stayed up way late just so I could finish reading it. So, grab a cold drink of water and start swooning over Caleb the HOT firefighter that will keep your heart pounding.

Great series. Single mom, Piper, started sexting “Anonymous “. Little did she know that it was her ex and her son’s father. When an accidental fire burns her house down, Caleb responds to the scene. Caleb returns to the small town of Maple Crossing, Maine to raise her daughter. Running into the love of his life again and offering her and her son a place to stay may ruin everything. Loved it.

When she start reading you can't put this story down
Once I opened this book I had to read it to the very last page. The characters were so good And seemed realistic. The storyline was what I expected it would be but then towards the end it took a twist and had me so eager to finish the book and find out what happened. This is a sign of a good author who writes with heart And loves to keep the reader going. So to me that's a good author
This was a ok read. I’m always flabbergasted when there is an age gap and the guy still seems immature. Yes, he loves his daughter, but the things he did just didn’t fit with a respectful firefighter or maturity from age. The FMC just got on my nerves. While this story may be perfect for many, it just never really got there for me.

Piper and Caleb have a second chance at love nine years later after he rescues her from her burning home. Both are now single parents, with her son Sonny and his daughter Ellie. The first few chapters gives you an idea of the threads of the story, but there are still answers and a couple of twists to come as you read. A great story.

He was once the most important person in her world - until he set it on fire. Nine years later he reappears in her life, but now Piper has a secret that Caleb can't find out about - Sonny, the child she had after he left. The spicy heat between them has never died, but will it be enough to ensure them all a future?
The story is about two lovers who were suddenly separated and meet nine years later. The female character continues to have doubts about a males characters love for her and keeps a large secret from him. I was a little bit disappointed, in the way the female character continue to whine throughout the book.

This is a great story. The characters are amazing. I loved the realism and vulnerability that the characters displayed. The plot was very interesting and definitely kept me guessing until the end. I loved the twist that the author put in there. Watching all the cards fall into place was very satisfying. I highly recommend this story!

Liz gives you drama, secrets, heat, and 2nd chances. You get drawn in to Caleb and Piper story right from the beginning. Liz's stories never disappoint.

This was simply not the book for me. FMC held herself in such high regard that most of the shit she flung at the MMC had me rolling my eyes. I was waiting for an epic groveling session on her part but fucking nothing. She just got let off all the pretty big fucking situations she created.

I loved this easy-to-read story of Caleb and Piper. Their second chance comes when her house is on fire and Caleb (her ex) the firefighter is there to rescue her. Will he find out about their son?
