Jade Masterson has been pretending and hiding for almost four years; her unique abilities making her afraid to get close to anyone. When a sudden and suspicious house explosion tragically kills her parents just days before her eighteenth birthday, Jade is thrown into a spiral of survivor’s guilt and paranoia. But it’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you…
The sinister Prism Foundation is hunting Jade for her powers, and secrets and lies make it impossible for her to trust her remaining family and even her closest friends. Jade is forced to turn to a stranger for help, the gorgeous and mysterious new kid in school, Jonathan Jakes.
Jade never expects to fall for the enigmatic Jonathan, a guy who has secrets of his own… Secrets that make him the worst kind of enemy—one that will earn her trust only to destroy her by breaking her heart.
An eternal optimist, Pat has been spinning stories in her head ever since she was a little kid -- stories of romance, intrigue and adventure. A former figure skater, jazz pianist and journalist, Pat discovered her passion for writing fiction and screenplays and never looked back. Her book, Ring Around My Heart, was named Best Contemporary Romance by RT Bookclub Magazine, and Pat's script, Escape, won the Page International Screenwriting Competition.
When she's not at her computer, you'll find her hiding out in a movie theatre, hiking in the Cascade Mountains, or training her feisty Golden Retriever, Fiona.
One of the best Para-NA's I've read in long awhile!
In a moment, Jade's life was changed forever. Always a bit of an introvert, she's used to being on her own and being independent, but when her life blows up around her, she's forced to flee everyone and everything she knows to outrun an organization intent on nabbing her for the powers she's tried so hard to suppress and hide. With lies and danger around every turn, Jade is left with no choice but to trust a guy she just met and can't get out of her head, but he and those he's involved with may prove to be more dangerous than anything.
I loved this somewhat standoffish, strong and snarky heroine, and the action was utterly gripping from beginning to end. Action, adventure, romance and wit; Escape has a little bit of everything.
Definitely recommended for adult fans of action-packed para-YA and NA. The sex scenes make it a little steamy for true YA readers, but I think mature YA fans will really enjoy the world and characters Ms. White has dreamt up.
