Aspen Fallon’s life imploded the day she caught her boyfriend, Zach, with another woman. The betrayal could not have come at a worse time. She had just uprooted her entire life and moved with Zach to his small hometown.
Stranded with nowhere to live and nowhere to go, Aspen is forced to start over.
Enter Brooks Calloway, a rancher, businessman, and Blue Haven’s most eligible bachelor. He offers Aspen a job, a place to stay, warm meals, and something she hasn’t felt in a long wanted. Brooks is everything Aspen never knew she needed.
There is just one problem.
He’s her ex-boyfriend’s father.
As Aspen builds a new life in Blue Haven, Georgia, finding friendship, purpose, and a sense of home, her feelings for Brooks grow impossible to ignore. But loving him could cost her everything.
Will Aspen stay and fight for the life she’s always dreamed of, or will she leave Blue Haven behind with her heart broken by both Calloway men?
This is book 1 in the Moonlight Ranch Series. It is meant for readers 18+.
D.C. Kile lives in Georgia with her husband and 2 kids #TwinMom. If she's not writing romance, she's reading it. She also enjoys all things Harry Potter, cooking shows, a good HGTV make-over, and day dreaming about future vacations.
This book was so freakin’ good!! I couldn’t put it down. It’s a super slow burn but in the best possible way! I was on the edge of my seat and all giddy because of how well written the slow burn was.
Every character, including the side characters (besides Lacey and Zach) were likable and realistic. The main characters Aspen and Brooks were definitely my favorite. I mean who doesn’t love a well mannered cowboy? 😍
I seriously can’t wait to read the next one and will definitely be checking out more books by D.C. Kile!
If this is how the series starts, just go ahead and sign me up for all of them right now. I picked this up at 1pm on my lunch break and didn’t stop until I finished it at 11pm. I literally could not put it down.
🐴 Ex-Boyfriend’s Dad 🤠 Age Gap (14 years) 🐴 Found Family 🤠 Forced Proximity 🐴 Boss x Assistant 🤠 Small Town Romance 🐴 Forbidden Romance
The only thing that kept this from being a full-on obsession for me was that when they finally crossed the line, it felt a little rushed. Don’t get me wrong, it was 🥵, but after all that buildup, I just wanted a tiny bit more time to savor it.
Brooks had my heart from the very beginning. He became a father so young that the age gap didn’t feel as big as it could have, and honestly? Aspen deserved someone like him. His relationship with Zack was already so strained, and you could feel how torn he was between wanting to fix things with him while also not wanting to walk away from Aspen. It hurt to watch.
And Aspen...I loved her. She was strong, grounded, and never once felt like she needed saving. She had already been carrying so much, especially in her relationship with Zack, and the moment he betrayed her, she let herself feel it and then she chose herself. No back and forth, no second-guessing. She saw him clearly for who he was and walked away. That kind of strength will always hit for me.
And Brooks telling her she should never be on her knees for him...that he’d spend forever on his worshipping her??? Ma’am. 🥵 Any shred of self-restraint I had disappeared. Brooks launched himself straight into my top-tier book boyfriend list.
The found family element just made everything better. There’s something so satisfying about watching broken pieces come together into something whole, and this story delivered that so well.
I’m already so invested in this series and these characters. There’s so much potential here. I’ll be here for all of it.
Thank you @authordckile and @theauthor.agency for the ARC! 🤍📚✨
This book hooked me right from the start. Betrayal, starting over in a small town, and a forbidden romance that should absolutely not work… yet somehow feels completely inevitable. Aspen Fallon’s world falls apart when she catches her boyfriend cheating on her, right after she’s moved her entire life to his hometown. Suddenly she’s stranded, heartbroken, and trying to figure out what her next move is. That’s when Brooks Calloway steps in. Brooks is the kind of hero who quietly shows up when someone needs help. A rancher, businessman, and the town’s most eligible bachelor, he offers Aspen a job, a place to stay, warm meals, and the kind of stability she desperately needs. But there’s one massive complication. He’s her ex-boyfriend’s father. The tension that creates is immediate and impossible to ignore. Aspen knows getting close to Brooks could blow up everything, yet the connection between them keeps growing stronger. What starts as kindness and support slowly turns into something deeper, and watching that emotional shift unfold made this story so addictive. Brooks completely won me over. He’s protective, steady, and genuinely cares about Aspen’s happiness and independence. Their relationship isn’t rushed. It grows through shared moments, trust, and the feeling of finally finding someone who sees you clearly. I also loved the small-town setting of Blue Haven. The friendships Aspen builds, the sense of community, and the life she begins to create for herself make the story feel warm and grounded even with all the drama simmering beneath the surface. Of course, loving Brooks comes with serious consequences, and the stakes keep rising as Aspen has to decide whether to protect herself from heartbreak or fight for the life she’s finally starting to believe she deserves. This book gave me: 🤠 Protective rancher hero 🔥 Forbidden age-gap romance 🏡 Small-town second chance at life 💔 Betrayal and healing ✨ Finding love where you least expect it Broken Boundaries is emotional, swoony, and full of tension. Aspen and Brooks’ story proves that sometimes the most unexpected relationships are the ones that change everything. And if this is just the beginning of the Moonlight Ranch series, I am definitely ready to head back to Blue Haven.
I was immediately drawn in by the premise of this story. Aspen is the kind of FMC I really enjoy reading about. She has a good head on her shoulders, she’s straightforward, and she refuses to settle for anything less than what she deserves. I admire that kind of confidence and self-awareness in a character.
Brooks feels very similar to Aspen in a lot of ways. He’s also direct and selfless, though he’s struggling with navigating his relationship with his son while still giving his now ex-girlfriend a place to live. That situation added an interesting layer to his character and the choices he has to make.
The tension between Brooks and Aspen builds steadily throughout the story, and I found myself on the edge of my seat each chapter wondering what would happen next between them. This is definitely a slow burn! One thing I did find myself wishing for was a scene of them having one of their conversations while riding horses in the evening. Their trail rides are mentioned several times, and I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during one of those moments to dive even deeper into their chemistry. But I wouldn’t consider it necessary for the story.
There is a side character whose actions made them hard to like, but I will always appreciate a good grovel. This one wasn’t anything over the top, but I did like that a certain character didn’t just give up even when it was clear he didn’t stand a chance anymore. It made him slightly more tolerable… just slightly.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was one of those stories I looked forward to picking back up whenever I had a chance to read, and I’m excited to have discovered a new author to follow and anticipation for the next book!
I was so excited when D.C Kile announced the tropes for this book. I absolutely loved The Penalty, her best friend's dad, age gap romance so when she announced she was writing an ex’s dad romance I knew I needed it.
I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to receive an arc of this book.
Aspen has recently relocated with her boyfriend to the small town of Blue Haven, Georgia. When her boyfriend Zach suggests she gets a job working at his father Brooks Calloway’s ranch she doesn’t expect to fit in so well there.
Her new small town life implodes when she finds Zach cheating on her, but Blue Haven’s most eligible bachelor is there to help land on her feet. With a place to stay, meals to eat, and a job suddenly Aspen is feeling something she has struggled to feel in a long time. Like she is wanted and belongs.
Unfortunately for her, it’s all because of the one man she should want nothing to do with, her ex’s dad. He’s forbidden in more ways than one including being her boss, and her ex’s older dad. But yet she can’t deny the pull she feels towards Brooks. For the first time, it feels like she could have everything she has ever wanted but is she ready to face the consequences of getting it.
Let me say, I ate this up. I couldn’t put this book down.
The slow burn between Brooks and Aspen was painfully delicious. The pull and attraction between them was at a constant simmer. I was absolutely hooked while I waited for them to finally give in to the attraction and chemistry between them.
I adored Brooks’ character. He was such a kind and caring man. He was passionate about his ranch and helping out his community. He treated Aspen like she was queen and the most precious gift. No matter how awful and strained his relationship was with his son, he was always always ready to help.
And Aspen, I had such a soft spot for her. She had gone through so much for being young. She was strong and independent and used to relying only on herself.
I absolutely love a found family trope and the found family vibes in this book were so strong. I loved how quickly everyone within Blue Haven accepted Aspen and made her feel welcome.
It was an absolute pleasure reading this book. I loved the small town vibes, the characters, and the overall story. While I do love a slow burn, I would have loved more time to experience more of Brooks and Aspen’s relationship. They made a great couple and I couldn’t help but root for them both to get their happily ever after.
Thank you to D.C Kile and The Author Agency for the opportunity to receive an arc in exchange for an honest review. I’m so excited to get more of this series 🤍
Thank you to D.C. Kile and The Author Agency for my advanced copy for an honest review.
I absolutely devoured this book. From the very first page, I was pulled into Aspen’s world and instantly felt at home on Moonlight Ranch. The setting, the friendships, and even the side characters made this small town feel so real and welcoming.
This is the first book in a new series by D.C. Kile, and it made me an immediate fan. We follow Aspen as she moves to the small town of Blue Haven for a fresh start with her boyfriend, only for life to quickly take an unexpected turn. After losing both her relationship and her stability, she finds herself working at Moonlight Ranch for Brooks, her ex-boyfriend’s father and eventually living there as well.
What unfolds is an unconventional, forbidden romance filled with tension, growth, and undeniable chemistry. Brooks is the ultimate possessive cowboy…protective, steady, and completely swoon-worthy while Aspen is sunshine, sass, and resilience all wrapped into one. Their dynamic is equal parts heartfelt and hilarious, with witty banter that had me laughing out loud and emotional moments that pulled at my heart.
The character development throughout the story felt natural and satisfying, and I found myself wanting more time with all of them. Lines like “nah, not illegal. It’s called an upgrade rebound” and “kissing her feels like an out-of-body experience like this is where I’m meant to be” perfectly capture the humor and romance that make this story so addictive.
If you love forbidden romance, cowboys, small-town settings, age-gap dynamics, found family, and stories about starting over, this one is a must-read. I’m already looking forward to the next installment and will definitely be picking up more from this author.
New author and series to me and it was so good! Broken Boundaries by D.C. Kile is the first book in the Moonlight Ranch series. I LOVEEEE a good age gap! But then you add a small town, a found family, spicy steam AND he’s her ex boyfriend’s dad and I AM THERE FOR IT!
Aspen Fallon’s world falls apart after moving to a small town with her boyfriend and finds him cheating on her. This girl is so sweet, she’s strong, she’s always taken care of herself and I loved how she knew she deserved so much more and wouldnt settle. Having nowhere to live, enter Brooks Calloway. The gorgeous cowboy who also happens to be her ex’s dad. He owns a beautiful ranch and offers her a job and an adorable little cabin to stay in for as long as she needs. Brooks is gorgeous, he’s so sweet and caring, he will do anything for anyone AND he’s the town’s most eligible bachelor! He cooks for her, he takes care of her, sunset horse rides yes please♥️ These two try to fight the connection they feel. Concerned about how her ex will take it and just what people will think with their age gap. But these two cannot fight it! There is so much slow burn and angst that cant be ignored! And when they finally give in, yes Aspen, this is a REAL MAN! And his dirty mouth, yes please! Steamy hot!
Broken Boundaries is heartfelt, swoon-worthy, and full of delicious tension. Aspen and Brooks’ journey shows that the most unexpected connections can end up changing everything. Can’t wait for more of this series!

🎀Thank you D.C. Kile and The Author Agency for my arc!
Brooks and Aspen’s story completely pulled me in. Aspen moves to the small town of Blue Haven with her boyfriend Zac, hoping for a fresh start, but things quickly unravel when she catches him cheating. Left with nowhere to go, she ends up working for, and eventually staying with, his dad, Brooks… and that’s where everything starts to get complicated.
The tension between Aspen and Brooks builds so naturally. There are so many reasons they shouldn’t give in but the way they gravitate towards each other feels inevitable. The way Brooks looks after Aspen, from cooking for her to quietly checking in, was just so soft and comforting. And the way they look at each other? Like they’ve found their person, even when they’re trying to fight it.
This was such a sweet, heartfelt read. Aspen and Brooks were both genuinely good, caring people, which made their connection feel even more special. Nothing about their relationship felt rushed. It was built on real moments, real conversations and a growing trust that made everything feel authentic.
I absolutely loved the ranch setting too. Their trail rides together were such a standout and I honestly wished I could be there with them.
When they finally give in to their feelings, it feels so right. Yes, there’s spice, but it’s their emotional connection that really shines and makes everything hit that much harder.
The found family element was woven in beautifully and added so much warmth to the story. I’m definitely keen to see where the rest of the series goes and to read more about the side characters.
What is it that makes a mixture of an ex's dad who's also a cowboy the absolute cream of the crop? I just don't think it gets any better 🤷
Aspen uproots her life to move back to her boyfriends home town with him. The only people she's familiar with is his family and his mum has already made it clear she's not a fan. So when her boyfriend Zach turns out to be a cheating pile of horse shit Aspen is forced to find somewhere else to live.
Enter one for the finest pieces of cowboy daddy yumminess in the form of Brooks, Zach's dad. He does what he thinks is the honourable thing to do and offers her the small cottage next door to stay in, seeing as his son is the reason for her current predicament.
It doesn't take long before the sparks start flying and the attraction between the two of them becomes impossible to ignore. But to make Aspen his, Brooks has to decide if he's willing to possibly lose his son forever. And while Moonlight Ranch feels more like home than anything Aspen has ever known, can she handle the guilt of watching Brooks lose one of the most important people in his life just to be with her.
Broken Boundaries is one of those books that reminds you why we love cowboy romance and daddy vibes so much. It keeps you captivated from the start with a good pace and enough tension to keep those pages turning. I've taken a big longer than usual to finish books lately, so the fact I read this in just over a day tells me everything I need to know about how good this reads was!
Broken Boundaries was honestly everything I wanted it to be and more. I went in knowing the trope and was extremely intrigued, but I didn’t expect to get this attached to the characters the way I did, especially Brooks.
Brooks completely stole the show for me. He’s not just the typical older, protective love interest. He’s genuinely kind, patient, and so caring toward everyone around him. The way he shows up for Aspen, not just in big gestures but in the small everyday ways, made me fall so hard. He just felt safe, and I loved that about him.
The whole setup adds tension straight away, and I liked how it wasn’t brushed over. Aspen’s situation felt believable, and watching her try to rebuild her life while being drawn to Brooks made everything feel more emotional. Their connection builds naturally, and once it clicks, you can’t help but root for them, even when you know it’s complicated.
What I really enjoyed was how this wasn’t just about the romance. There’s growth, healing, and finding a place where you actually feel like you belong. It gave the story more depth than I was expecting. Plus the small town feels were everything.
It’s messy, emotional, a little forbidden, but also really soft in the best ways. And Brooks? Easily one of my favourite love interests in a long time.
Thank you to the author and the author agency for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The tropes alone had me immediately jumping on this ARC. Age gap, ex-boyfriend’s dad, cowboy ranch setting… yes please.
Aspen moves to town with her boyfriend Zach, whose dad Brooks owns Moonlight Ranch. From the start, you can tell there’s tension around Brooks since Zach never has anything good to say about him, and his mom definitely fuels that narrative.
Whew. Daddy Brooks is top tier. 🫠
After Zach and Aspen relocate from Atlanta, Zach is in the police academy while Aspen is trying to find her footing. Brooks offers her a job at the ranch, and that’s when everything really starts to unfold. As she spends more time there, she begins to question everything Zach has said about his dad.
Then comes the Fourth of July festival… and the moment that changes everything. Aspen catches Zach cheating, and Brooks steps in, giving her a safe place to land. From there, the slow build between Aspen and Brooks is full of tension, restraint, and chemistry that’s impossible to ignore.
Brooks struggles with crossing that line because of Zach, which honestly made it even better when he finally hits that “fuck it” moment. The payoff was worth it.
I also loved how Brooks handled Zach’s mom. That moment? Chef’s kiss.
This wasn’t a super spicy read, but the emotional buildup and connection between Aspen and Brooks really carried the story. They just worked so well together.
I’m definitely excited to see what’s next from this author.
I had never read a D.C. Kile book before and am very grateful, because now there is a back catalogue of books to add to my never-ending tbr pile
Aspen Fallon has just moved with her boyfriend to his hometown of Blue Haven. With the help of her boyfriend's father Brooks, she gets a job working on Brooks' ranch.
Unfortunately for Aspen, life takes a turn for the worse when she catches her boyfriend cheating on her and our MMC Brooks offers her sanctuary on the ranch.
What starts as dinner, quickly evolves into more which leaves Aspen with a hard decision about what to do with her growing feelings for her ex-boyfriends father.
This was a slow burn romance with a hot cowboy and a whole bunch of small town charm. It was meeting all of the side characters within the Blue Haven and almost living alongside them which is what I really loved about this book.
Seeing our FMC Aspen thrive whilst finally being with someone who appreciates her for who she is, and enjoy the life that the ranch has to offer, which includes sunrise horse rides amongst others 😉, is really the heart and soul of this book and gave me all the feels.
This book is perfect for fans of 🔥age gap 🔥ex-boyfriends dad 🔥cowboy 🔥forced proximity 🔥small town 🔥slow burn
I am really thankful to have been given the opportunity to read this ARC by The Author Agency and D.C. Kile
I couldn’t put this book down! Aspen is a FMC that fully resonates with you, as so many women have moved to a new place for their boyfriend, fiancé or husband.
Zach encourages Aspen to get a job at his dad’s ranch during a lunch with him and after starting she realises she loves working there and has made friends with the people who work there.
Then comes the town event… all is going well until Aspen goes to find her boyfriend!
After being betrayed and humiliated by her boyfriend, she needs to decide whether to stay or to go. Brooks supports her and encourages her to stay, even offers her a place to stay. She decides to stay and continues on with her life, despite Zach trying to win her back.
Aspen and Brooks get closer and develop feelings for each other, they both fight it as they know the fallout it will cause, but it gets to a point where they don’t want to fight it anymore. They give in and realise that they are each other’s other half. It’s beautiful and perfect, but you know what’s coming… Zach is not happy.
After the massive fallout, they find happiness in each other and at Moonlight Ranch. I won’t give details from the epilogue, but this is a must read if you love a cowboy romance.
I can’t wait to read more in the series, and hopefully get more from Aspen and Brooks too!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’ll admit I originally signed up for an ARC of Broken Boundaries by D.C. Kile based on the cover alone. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a good country/ranch romance. Thankfully, this one absolutely delivered.
The story had so many of the tropes I enjoy, and it made the reading experience that much more fun. Our FMC, Aspen, is the kind of character you can instantly relate to and root for. She feels genuine and easy to connect with, and I found myself hoping good things would come her way from the very beginning.
I don’t want to give away too much about the plot, but I will say I had a great time with this book. It pulled me in quickly, and I ended up finishing it in less than 24 hours.
One of the tropes did give me a little pause at first, but I decided not to overthink it and just go with the flow, and I’m really glad I did. The story worked, and I enjoyed the ride.
There were a few punctuation and grammatical errors throughout, but nothing that another round of editing couldn’t easily fix.
Overall, I really enjoyed my trip to Moonlight Ranch and I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next books in this series.
Rating: 4.5 ⭐ Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Thank you to The Author Agency and D.C. Kile for this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
Broken Boundaries is book 1 in the Moonlight Ranch series and is a cowboy, small town, ex boyfriend's dad, romance story. Aspen moves to a small hometown with her boyfriend Zach. It's actually his hometown where he grew up on his father's ranch. Aspen and Zach get their own apartment and are trying to find jobs and get life situated. On the night that Aspen meets Zach's father, Brooks, at dinner, he mentions that he is in need of help at the ranch and Zach quickly throws Aspen under the bus and gets her hired by his dad. She isn't too thriller about it at first, but goes along with it. After getting to the ranch though and seeing all that it entails, she's actually excited. That excitement quickly sours though when she catches Zach with another woman. Now, with nowhere to go, she's forced to start over yet again. Luckily though, Brooks steps up and offers her a place to stay on the ranch. As she lives with him and works with him, their feelings start to grow for each other. The only problem is, he's her ex's dad!! The tension in this one had me biting my nails. I loved the way the story played out. You could tell right from he beginning that Zach wasn't deserving of Aspen. He immediately gave me red flags. Brooks sounds absolutely delicious. I'm a sucker for a cowboy and Brooks hit all the right marks!! I am excited to read more from this series!!
First and foremost, age gap, cowboy romances get me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Add in the forbidden, ex’s Dad bit and our filthy talking MMC, a sweet FMC, with so much tension/angst…this was an absolute recipe for steamy, taboo perfection. I loved the chemistry between Brooks and Aspen. Them falling in love just felt like the simplest thing, so natural and easy.
Honestly, you can’t help but love Aspen; she is so sweet and kind, just looking for a place to call home. With no family of her own really, she follows her boyfriend to his hometown. Then the unthinkable happens, when she’s finally starting to settle in her boyfriend cheats on her. At this moment, Brooks(her ex’s Dad and her boss) steps in and does everything in his power to help her. I love that Aspen stood her ground and didn’t entertain her ex’s attempts to win her back. She has constantly been a on her own, so it was amazing to see her put her needs being taken care of by someone who truly sees her.
Brooks truly would do anything for her; the late night rides home, home cooked meals, and sunset rides together. The more time they spend together the more both their feelings and attraction grow, however difficult it may be for him due his strained relationship with his son. It isn’t easy for him, but he realizes a life without Aspen is no life at all.
“I do. I choose you, Aspen. Every single day, I choose you.”
A huge thank you to D.C. Kile and The Author Agency for the early copy!
I was immediately drawn in by the premise of this story, and Aspen is the kind of FMC I usually love. She’s confident, self-aware, and unwilling to settle, which made her easy to root for right away.
The slow-burn tension between Aspen and Brooks is a highlight. Their connection builds naturally, and Brooks is definitely swoon-worthy—attentive, caring, and always taking care of her… until he doesn’t. There’s a moment where he falls short, and while it’s resolved fairly quickly, I found myself wanting more emotional weight and buildup there.
That’s where the story didn’t fully land for me. It had all the pieces for deeper angst and longing, but it never quite leaned into them. I kept waiting for more depth in the emotions, backstory, and stakes, and it just didn’t go as far as I wanted.
I also wish we had gotten more on-page moments, especially during their evening horse rides. Those scenes were mentioned several times, and it felt like a missed opportunity to really show their chemistry instead of just referencing it.
Overall, I enjoyed this as a sweet, steamy, easy read with strong chemistry and a likable heroine. It just didn’t fully deliver on the emotional depth I was hoping for.

I absolutely adore DC Kile and her books and Broken Boundaries is no exception to that. I absolutely adored Aspen and Brooks and this is a great way to start a new series.
Aspen, our FMC has been in a relationship with Zach for two years. They have recently relocated back to Zach’s home town. Aspen begins working for Zach’s dad , Brooks, at the ranch… until her world is flipped.
Aspen is now navigating a new life, one that doesn’t include Zach. She working and living at the ranch and hanging out with Brooks and girls the ranch.
Aspen and Brooks get closer and develop not only a friendship but something deeper that neither expected. Both fight it in the beginning because of not only their age difference but because of Zach. Eventually the heart wins and they give in
What will their friends say? How about Zach and his already strained relationship with his dad ?
This was a slow burn with tension, and light spice. This book is on the shorter side so if you’re looking for a good book you can fit in this is one to add to your TBR
Yes I’m reading another single dad book. Sue me. In my defence—it’s an ex-boyfriend’s dad this time…
I LOVE D.C. Kile and was genuinely ecstatic to dive into a cowboy romance set in a brand new world from her—and she did not disappoint. This book was such a fun, easy, light read that still managed to hit emotionally where it counts.
Aspen, my girl… she’s a little flighty, a little scared of her own feelings, and honestly? Relatable. We’ve all been there (or at least I have). Watching her navigate her emotions, even when she’s unsure or holding back, made her feel very real and easy to root for.
And Brooks??? He is to die for. The way he shows up as a father, even when his son is constantly pushing him away, just melted me. You can really see how much he cares, and his growth—learning to not only be there for others but also prioritise himself and his own happiness—was so satisfying to read.
This is definitely more of a slow burn compared to other D.C. Kile books I’ve read, and I’d say it’s a bit less spicy too—but honestly, it works. The tension, the build-up, the emotional connection?? It’s all so well put together. Chef’s kiss.
I have fully fallen in love with Blue Haven and Moonlight Ranch, and i already know i’m going to be obsessed with this series. I cannot wait for book 2 and to read Beck’s story!
I absolutely loved it! I was on the edge of my seat, eagerly wondering whether they would come together or not. The writing was beautifully crafted and filled with emotion; it truly felt as though I was right there with them.
Aspen had never really experienced a family. After two years with her boyfriend, he asked her to move to his hometown. She was uncertain about how she would adapt to small-town life, and finding a job proved to be challenging. That’s when Zach suggested his father might hire her at his ranch. Initially, Zach thought she wouldn’t enjoy it, but Aspen ended up falling in love with the ranch and didn’t want to leave, even after discovering Zach's infidelity.
Brooks believed he had raised his son well, given the limited time he had with him. When he found Aspen after she caught Zach cheating, he knew he had to take her somewhere safe. He understood that Aspen deserved to be treated well and loved properly.
Aspen was a lost girl in search of her place and a true sense of home. I admired her desire for Brooks and Zach to have a healthier father-son relationship.
Cowboy ✅ Age gap ✅ Ex’s hot, filthy rich daddy ✅ ohhh yeah…this was RIGHT up my alley 🔥
Aspen packs up her life and follows her boyfriend to his hometown so he can chase his cop dreams…She needs a job. Enter her ex’s dangerously irresistible dad 😏
And let’s just say…it doesn’t take long to find out her ex is a cheating butthole…leaving Aspen stranded…or so she thinks. Because guess who just happens to have a place waiting for her right next door? Yeah. THAT dad and boss 😉
Aspen? She’s in her take no excuses, give no forgiveness “you blew it” era. YES GIRL…as you should. Girl Power!
And Brooks?? 🥵 whew this MAN! This panty melting man. Filthy but absolutely adorably sweet. I couldn’t get enough.
You already know with an ex’s dad situation, the drama is simmering the entire time just waiting to explode and this one keeps you hooked every second.
Also, can we talk about Jazz for a second?? Because I NEED her story immediately. She was hilarious, chaotic in the best way, and completely stole every scene she was in. Gimme gimme!!!
I can’t wait for more in this series. 🔥
Thank you The Author Agency and D.C. Kile for the advanced copy to read 🫶
This story is the kind of messy, emotional rollercoaster that pulls you in fast and doesn’t let go. From the explosive opening—catching her boyfriend cheating at the worst possible moment—to being stranded in a town that was never truly hers, the setup is instantly gripping. The FMC is easy to root for, and her journey of rebuilding her life feels both raw and empowering. While the MMC is steady, protective, and layered in a way that makes his connection with the FMC feel genuine rather than purely scandalous. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the slow build of their relationship adds emotional depth instead of rushing into drama.the central conflict—falling for her ex’s father—can feel a bit predictable at times, and some of the tension relies on familiar romance beats. A few moments could have used more complexity, especially when dealing with the emotional fallout and social consequences of their relationship.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Broken Boundaries by D.C. Kile is a fantastic Small Town, Cowboy, Ex-Boyfriend’s Dad read. It’s a great start to the Moonlight Ranch series and delivers a truly swoon-worthy romance.
Aspen Fallon is such a relatable, sweet heroine. She didn’t deserve the betrayal from Zach, and I loved watching her rebuild the life she’s always wanted in Blue Haven. Brooks Calloway, Zach’s dad, is the ultimate cowboy hero—protective, kind, and irresistibly charming. I loved how he cared for Aspen and slowly showed her what she truly needed. The slow burn between them adds real emotional depth, their chemistry is undeniable, and the “we shouldn’t, but we can’t resist” tension kept me hooked the whole time.
The story perfectly balances small-town charm, found-family vibes, emotional growth, and just the right amount of spice. I was rooting for Aspen and Brooks from start to finish and can’t wait to see what D.C. Kile writes next in the Moonlight Ranch series!
Thank you to D.C. Kile and The Author Agency for the ARC.
Broken Boundaries by DC Kile Moonlight Ranch book 1
Wow, this one hooked me in right from the start! The forbidden dynamic was so good and because of the slow burn between Aspen and Brooks their relationship was so enticing 🥵😮💨 Aspen gives up everything to move to a small town with her current boyfriend. Her world comes crashing down after a crushing betrayal. Shes alone and stuck n a place she barely knows anyone. But being the baddie she is she embraces her job at her now Exs Fathers ranch. Brooks ranch is everything to him. He’s a country man through and through and works hard. He’s been trying to repair his relationship with his adult son for years and his son has finally moved back to their small town. Brooks steps up for Aspen after his son and destroys her. Hes tries for so long to not give into the feelings he has but eventually he can’t hold back and when that burn hits it’s hot!! 🔥 I absolutely adore all the side characters in this one, and can’t wait to see what happens next!!
This is only my second book I’ve ever read with the ex-boyfriend’s dad trope and I think I’m slowly falling in love with it! This book was also based on a ranch in a small town which are two other tropes I love.
Firstly, Zach is trash. Brooks is an angel though ✨
This book was very easy to read. I binged 75% of the book in one sitting, and I can only do that with books I’m loving because I have the attention span of a gnat. The entirety of this book had me hooked, and I think that was because of how much this book revolved around the found family trope. Aspen’s experience on Brooks’s ranch and the way she straight away became part of the family was beautiful to read about, especially considering she didn’t have any family or friends at the beginning of the story.
This book was very entertaining and enjoyable and I will be definitely checking out more of this author’s work.
Read if you love: Age gap romance Ex boyfriend’s dad Cowboy/ranch Forced proximity
New to me author! Loved this story! Ya'll know I'm a sucker for an age gap!
Aspen and Brooks were everything I wanted, and honestly the way I devoured this story, just sign me up for the rest of the series!!
I don't usually like when stories start out with the FMC dating someone else, but in this sense it definitely worked for the plot and I am in full support of it. It definitely gave Aspen a alternative perspective and made her more equipped to deal with the fall out of sleeping with her exes dad.
This love story felt so deserved for Brooks. After what he went through with his sons mom and how good of a man he is, had me cheering from the gate!
Everyone needs a friend like Jasmine, I can't wait to read her book! She was a hoot the entire story! Definitely loved the found family aspects of this story, it rounded every thing out really well.
Can't wait to jump back into this universe!
Ranch Romance Age Gap (14 years) Exes Dad Boss x Assistant Found Family Forced Proximity
Cowboy✔️ Small town ✔️ Ex-boyfriend’s dad…… ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
I was hooked from the second I read ex-boyfriends dad, but it was all the yummy tension, the “we shouldn’t”, and the sweet found family that Aspen finds herself being accepted into, that made me stay.
When Aspen finds herself heartbroken after catching her boyfriend cheating on her, she has no choice but to take Brooks up on his offer and stay in his old cabin on the ranch.
What Aspen never expected was the way that she slowly starts to fall for him. Between the small ways he shows he’s thinking of her, to the way he steps up and protects and cares for her like no one ever has. It’s hard to deny what’s so obviously right in front of them.
As much as Brooks wants to fight his attraction in order to try to mend his relationship with his son, he can’t deny the way that Aspen awakens something inside him that he thought was long buried.

This book has it all! Age gap, a good looking cowboy, forced proximity, boss x employee, ex’s dad I mean it has everything!
You will absolutely find yourself rooting for Aspen and Brooks. The chemistry between them is undeniable and the “will they, won’t they” was perfect!
I 100% understood Brooks and his hesitation; his feelings and hesitancies were very valid. But this man…he cooks for her and he cares for her and we can not forget the jealousy! I LOVE me a good jealous MMC…I eat it up every single time!
I loved Aspen our FMC honestly she was so dang sweet and kind you just wanted to root for her and her happiness from the beginning. I loved how she fit in on Brooks ranch so effortsly as well as making friends and finding her family.
This was my first book from D.C Kile and I will look for more of her books!
Thank you to the author and the author agency for the arc of this book
This was my first time reading DC Kile and it definitely won’t be my last. Broken Boundaries is the first book in the Moonlight Ranch series.
This cover was the reason I signed up for an advanced copy. It is just absolutely stunning. Then I read the tropes…yes please. Age gap, yes. Ex boyfriend’s dad, YES! Cowboy romance, yes. Workplace romance, yes.
Imagine moving to a new town with your boyfriend not knowing anyone, only to have your boyfriend cheat on you. You have no where else to go and your new boss, who is also your ex boyfriend’s dad, offers you a place to stay. He is everything you’ve ever wanted but is completely off limits…or is he?
I absolutely devoured this book. I loved the slow burn between Brooks and Aspen. Their friendship morphed into a beautiful relationship that they both tried to avoid. I loved how easily they fell together once they accepted their feelings.
Thank you D C Kile and the Author Agency for the advanced copy. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
