One, other people couldn’t see the monsters the way she did.
And two, the monsters didn’t like being seen.
Merry has struggled with the gift of Sight her whole life, caught between two worlds and never knowing how they fit together. When the people of Brooklyn start mysteriously going missing, she knows that the monsters have something to do with it.
Ithuriel is still stinging with the shame of his fall from grace when he learns that more and more denizens of Hell are being summoned to Brooklyn. Fallen he may be, he will stop at nothing to keep the demons from taking over the city.
Belial gave up on Heaven a long time ago. All he wanted was to live amongst the humans in peace, but now he finds himself caught up in a dangerous plan that will shift the balance of the world like never before.
In a world of angels and demons where nothing is as it seems, this thrilling urban fantasy debut will have you second guessing everything. Hope is crushed, alliances are cast aside and betrayal cuts through the heart as the Second Coming trilogy begins.

Emma Gerts is an academic librarian living just outside Canberra with her dog and two horses, writing obsessively in every free moment, and indulging in her hobby of buying books.
Esme Stevenson is a veterinary nurse by day, living just outside the Blue Mountains with her dog and two horses. She writes in what spare time she can muster and reads whether she has the time or not. You'd be forgiven for thinking they're the same person. Many have made the mistake before.
Their debut novel Revelation is the first in an action packed urban fantasy series The Second Coming.
A wonderful debut, with well-drawn characters inhabiting an intriguing plot which rolls along nicely. Like the Nicolas Cage film City Of Angels, but exciting. I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy.
Full disclosure here - one of the co-authors is my daughter. Also full disclosure- I am a librarian and lecturer in information studies and as total ‘book person’ I would probably not leave a review at all rather than leave an insincere one. I found I was unable to put the book down as I approached the final chapters. The pace and action are compelling and exciting. The well drawn characters soon became alive in my head thanks to the believable dialogue and the descriptive writing. Of course Ithuriel is my favourite- how could he not be? Four stars rather than five because I wanted a bit more resolution at the end. I realise this is part of a trilogy, but I wanted a little more satisfaction to round out part one. As a debut novel this is a very strong effort that speaks of more excitement to come.
Look I am old and tired with a stressful job and 2 kids, so it's not very often I stay up past my bedtime reading, but here I am at 11pm writing a review after finishing this book. Because I could not put it down.
I absolutely loved this from start to finish. It was so refreshing to read a book where I genuinely liked the characters and felt emotionally invested in what happened to them (along with conflicted by that because when you said morally grey, you really meant it). The plot kept me hooked from the get go and the pacing was impeccable.
Cannot wait for the rest of the trilogy and I promise to be one of the first in line for everything you write in the future <3 Well done and congratulations on an incredible debut.
This is a fantastically crafted story, guiding you along to a touching conclusion while leaving you wanting more. The story builds up to a point where I could not help but keeping turning the page wanting to see if my theories were right and how the characters would react.
The world building is lovely, taking the familiar and adding touches of the fanciful to create something wonderful. The way the world is reveal also feels natural thanks to the different character perspectives and their level of knowledge.
The characters are flawed in ways that are compelling and feel right for them. Their choices can feel frustrating at time but they are always right for the character and keeps the story grounded.
Very excited to see where this stories goes as there is so much potential! A fantastic start to a trilogy.
Fantastically crafted plot, and ✨genuinely✨ interesting characters. Merry felt like a girl I could actually be friends with. Her relationship with Jen was so lovely and honestly a little enviable!
Belial was hands down my favourite character. Like, his lines literally made me laugh out loud on at least three separate occasions. He and Ithuriel had some great banter!
Asteroth is Demon Mommy. No I’m not sorry for saying it. Sue me.
I usually struggle with urban fantasy, but Revelation didn’t feel like that; it felt like watching an episode of Supernatural. I laughed, I cried, I yelled at the characters. All good things. Exactly what I love in a fantasy story. I’m also usually quite fussy with endings, but I think this first instalment left off at just the right moment to keep us hooked and eagerly awaiting the next book. I’m hoping the next book delves into Merry’s backstory and history more! ETA?
My only critique would be that it could have used another line edit. In saying that, it’s entirely forgivable. I’ve read several traditionally published books that I /swear/ weren’t line edited AT ALL so like, whatever. I don’t even know why I’m mentioning it, actually. Please forgive me, I’m incredibly tired 😂

3.25* This is not my usual genre but my besties wrote this and I'm so proud to have read it 🥰 and the namedrop 🥹
This was a fun and easy to follow story with great pacing and a bit of a mystery vibe. I'm a character girlie and this absolutely delivered. I wanted to punch Barachiel in the face instantly. Merry is fun and feisty, Ith is endearing and delightfully tortured, and Belial is my problematic favourite. Down bad, flirty, snarky and morally grey? Just my type. He'd probably have chemistry with a telegraph pole. As a romantasy girlie I was absolutely clinging to my MM crumbs and am looking forward to seeing that develop.
What a fantastic debut novel! Told mostly from the perspectives of the two main characters - Merry, a young woman just trying to get on with life, despite the fact that she can see "monsters" (as she's called them since childhood) that no one else seems able to. And Ithuriel, a mysterious golden stranger who runs into her, literally. In the angels and demons genre, with suspense and mystery aplenty, it's a page turner right to the end of this first installment. I can't wait for the next book in the trilogy!
Oh my god. I have no words. This was brilliant. It had the right pacing, the characters were all likeable and I found myself breezing through it with ease. It was a pleasure to read. The dynamic between Ithuriel and Belial was excellent and very entertaining, the budding friendship between Merry and them both is setting up for a most interesting series!
You have a very loyal reader in me and I’m very excited to see where this goes 💕
