Global Warming......Really?? Yes, Really!! For the remaining doubters the authors carefully list in detail all of the popular reasons to dismiss the risk of Global Warming. Then they proceed to subject each reason in turn to factual analysis which demonstrates that particular reason to NOT have a scientific basis.
The critical message from the book.......We face a very scary future for the World without extensive, coordinated, multilateral action steps to reduce/eliminate added contributions to the layer of CO2 blanketing the Earth.
To guide us...... in addition to taking the reader through a clear straightforward description of the scientific "hows and whys" of Global Warming, the authors lay out a doable strategy and set of actions that will allow us to preserve the Earth as we know it. Simply put, the solution is two-fold:
Across the Board Electrification and Replacement of Fossil Fuels with Electricity supplied from renewable sources. The task is not simple, but the technologies required are available today and further technology advances are on the way. Most of the trillions of dollars involved worldwide will be used to replace aging or obsolete facilities.
In addition to accelerating the current rapid expansion of renewable energy sources and converting end-use energy applications to electricity from these sources, we must have a stable national electrical grid plus strengthened and expanded local electric distribution systems--much like our national highway system for vehicles that was constructed starting in the 1950's.
The authors surround these central issues and calls to action with fascinating details of how Global Warming and Climate Change come to be, the "Latency Principle" that dictates that we will face a certain amount of warming even with aggressive actions to reduce/eliminate CO2 emissions, and the many priority steps that can and must be taken if we are to preserve the Earth in the future as at least a close approximation of how we know it today.
