Read to see if it was better than the manga and it was much worse. Soulless fantasy pastiche and lifeless wish fulfillment (and not even very rewarding wish fulfillment).
This is an isekai (go to another world) (reincarnated) short story and manga. I´ve read Volumes 1-11. Believe that so far have 12.5 volumes. Positive is the fact that it focuses on the skills learned, artifacts looted or gotten and does not prolong incessantly the fights, quests, etc. The eating of the main character Rou, for skills, gluttony, etc. takes about half the volumes, about 10-15 is the sexual conquests, prima noctis (both male and female elfs for instance) of his captives, hot baths fetish and need to make money and become rich. Negatives. Holy war isn't really necessary or believable (around volume 9) Why do all the nations come together under the Holy Empire to fight against main character and his Parabellum group. Double standard, main character Rou protects women and children, but cannibalizes ugly women and eats anything and everything possible (humans, monsters, enemies, artifacts, weapons, rocks, etc.) Doesn't let his elders have rape encounters with human women, because he monopolizes them all, etc. Drawings and illustrations could be a lot better. No maps to help with the quests and better understanding of the story. Food and gluttony centered. Because it is a journal type story of the life of a mutated goblin, story so far is about a year and a half in "real-time". Most translations (especially those from russian and not original japanese) are terrible.
I really enjoy the evolution of monsters via Rank Up and the skills the protagonist gains with Absorption and his combination of spells, as well as the equipment and gradual getting stronger. I think the later volumes get a lot more repetitive and not as interesting with things like a focus on sex, alcohol, managing his city profits, but the beginning first volume is very good and enjoyable at least. Dropped the later ones though.
I really hate Japanese light novels, but I try them anyway every so often because I don’t like to generalize. This one is yet another terrible one. I sort of knew it was going to be but I wanted to take it off my recommend list.
Years ago I read some of the manga version of this and found it tolerable. I wouldn’t recommend that either, but I don’t remember it being as awful as this.
As an isekai the book is okay, maybe just a tad too busy and too fast-paced to truly captivate the reader, however, it has potential, it is up to the author to put new life into it. If it's a bit rewritten I will definitely reread this.
This is an interesting story in my opinion, a unimportant guy is reborn a monster in a new land after getting murdered and powers up to survive and builds a monster army to help him. He starts as a lowly goblin and through battles ends up being one of the strongest monsters in the forest building his base of operations to start out to conquer and eat everyone and everything one step at a time.
