It is in the footnotes where the real gems of knowledge are hidden within this book. The Acton and Brown series of books are must have resources for anyone exploring the surface of Cornish Mines. The books combines recommended walks with historic backgrounds and technical explanations

It is those explanations that can be found in the footnotes; explanations provided by the leading expert on Cornish engines, Kenneth Brown.

Unfortunately, time has now passed since publication, and therefore, some of the descriptions of the  remains and public access is becoming dated as buildings decay or are preserved. Despite of this I would highly recommend this book and its companion volumes to anyone wishing to discover more about Cornish Mines. Grab a copy when you see it!

If the series is ever republished I would love to see them reorganised into geographical volumes. Meanwhile, here is a list of the mine sites covered in Volume 2:
