*** TROPES ***
- Romantacy
- Forbidden love
- Magic
- Forced Proximity
- Fated Mates

*** THOUGHTS ***
So I'll admit I wasn't too sure about this one at first. I find that academy type settings are either really good... or really terrible. And I have to say this one was really good. I became invested in the characters rather quickly... and not just the FMC and MMC but the side characters as well. This is truly a well rounded story and you get drawn in rather quickly. There are also some unexpected surprises that definately makes you want to keep reading. And the ending... I have no words. I definately want to find out what happens in the next book!

*** QUOTES ***
"If I don't survive this, know that I love you Lowan O'Dallyn. It's come slowly, rumbling under me until it exploded into this oblivion. It's the one thing I concede to, willingly dooming my soul for a single taste of your touch and if my only dute was to protect your truth, I would happily endure the agony every night for the rest of my existance, just to have the privilege of watching you glow. You have wrecked me wholeheartedly, daughter of Theroson. I am yours, every last piece of me."

*** SPEED ***
It took me about two weeks to read.

I was asked to read and review this book but, as Romantasy is not my favourite genre, I wasn’t expecting to get much enjoyment out of it.
However, I was pleasantly surprised how readable and accessible it was. I found myself absorbed in it and I’m looking forward to the next few books in the series.
Well thought out characters and plot lines.
I’d recommend this to lovers of the genre and anyone who wants a good read.

✨ARC Review ✨

“I wonder what he sees. Wonder if he gets this feeling the same as I do, that we are two souls meeting, for the first time but also the thousandth.”

✨ Academy setting & trials
✨ Multiple love interests & fated mates
✨ Animal companions
✨ Found family

This book hooked me so fast. It’s immersive, fast paced and the world building goes down very easy. The academy setting raises the stakes immediately. I love a book that throws you straight into the danger, politics, and questionable alliances.

“I thought that Morgal would be laced with poison, doomed to a destiny of having a pair I did not love. To find love here in the man that will be my king is everything.”

Lowan is such a great lead, determined, sharp, constantly juggling more than any sane person should, and still holding it together. And the friendship group, Ari, Seren, Tavor, & Fen really steal the show. Proper found-family energy that makes you want to pack a bag and move into the academy with them.

“To ruin his chances for the throne now would be to ruin my own. I am prepared to fight for him the same as he is for me.”

There are “mate” bonds floating around, but nothing feels straightforward. Lowan’s relationship with Renan seems almost too easy, while Dacre… gives off some seriously hot complicating energy. The tension is so good and the slow burn is worth the wait.

“I swore to Brayn, to my mother… that I would find it impossible to love someone I had just met… but meeting you, it felt like finally saying hello to someone I’d already loved for a lifetime.”

The animal companions are easily one of my favourite parts. They are all magical, and their bonds actually matter to the story. Twitch had me obsessed and deserves her own novella.

“I don’t care where you come from... I am just going to say that you are safe, your secrets and your truth.”

The stakes get higher with every chapter and by the end I genuinely had no idea where things were going, in a good way. Very much that “okay I need book two immediately” feeling.

Thank you to Eboni Ocean Sky for letting me read this ARC 🫶🏻

Chaos, vibes, and opinions are all my own ✨ please give credit if you share.

The Law of Blue Silk was such an enjoyable read, and easily one of the strongest ARCs I’ve picked up in recent months. The world is vivid, the magic system is engaging, and the blend of trials, fae politics, and found family dynamics kept me invested from the start.

This book delivers everything you’d expect from a trial based romantasy: beast bonds, magic, yearning, spice, royalty, secrets, and high stakes competition. I found myself genuinely rooting for Lowan throughout, and the author does an impressive job weaving together multiple plotlines and character arcs — especially for a debut with this level of complexity.
My main challenge was the structure of the POVs. The story spends a significant amount of time with the FMC before shifting into multiple perspectives, which took a moment to adjust to. While I enjoyed each POV, some transitions and narrators were quire similar, but with chapter headings for each character, it wasn’t difficult to follow.
That said, the bonds, the trials, and the twists were all highlights. Several moments genuinely surprised me — not an easy feat in a genre full of familiar tropes. The ending in particular caught me off guard. I’m still deciding how I feel about it, but it certainly left me eager for the next instalment.

Tropes
• Fated Mates
• Beast Bonds
• Dual POV
• Enemies to Lovers
• Shadow Daddy
• Fae & Magic
• Forced Proximity

Who should read this
• Readers who enjoy trial based romantasy with high stakes, magical competitions, and a strong sense of danger.
• Fans of fae politics, royal intrigue, and stories centred around reclaiming a throne.
• Anyone who loves found family dynamics, group bonds, and character driven teamwork.
• Readers who appreciate multiple POVs and ensemble casts, especially in sprawling fantasy settings.
• Those who enjoy familiar romantasy tropes — fated mates, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, beast bonds — but still want a few twists that genuinely surprise.
• Fantasy readers looking for a fast paced, immersive debut with plenty of magic, secrets, and emotional stakes.

I don’t know what to say except my heart is torn in two. I’m still reeling from the gut wrenching finale of this book. I don’t know if I can formulate the correct words, but this book is a piercing blade that cuts so deep, it will be a long time for recovery. The cover fools you into thinking it’s a whimsical, soft, novel. When in reality we are given a brutal, jaw opening, gift of a novel. The beauty of the novel is that it continually surprises you, and fills you with readers anxiety (what I refer to as being on the edge of your seat).

The world itself is a masterpiece, I felt drawn to the each of every aspect presented. I can picture the water, the cliffs, the stone circles. It’s a beautiful backdrop for trials built on blood and destruction. While it may have been a little difficult to get into the story, once I started it, it was all I could think about. It’s difficult to pinpoint my favorite part of the story since I have several. But I love how each competitor chooses their beast companion, and the bond is almost instantaneous. That being said, Twitch and Jaze are my favorites.

Lowan is a character full of heart and humility. She’s never shy to stand up for her friends, and for trying to make her kingdom a better place. I loved the friendship between Lowan, Ari and Seren, they are the next golden trio! I loved how they experienced conflict, and at times distanced themselves from each other, giving it an actual realistic portrayal of friendship. What made it better is that no mater what, they always stood together in each challenge. While I love a bookish MMC, Dacre stole the show and completely blew me away. Definitely a male that makes the slow burn worth the wait.

This novel is a beautiful piece of art, and it’s been crafted by a master author. I had so much fun digging in and getting to know the characters more. Any fan of romantasy will devour this book, and anyone wanting to get into that genre will equally enjoy it. Thank you so much Eboni for letting me arc read this, and I can’t wait to see this series grow.

If Hunger Games, Fourth Wing, and Bridgerton had a baby it would be The Law of Blue Silk. The book starts of in the city of Therosin with Lowan and her group of friends heading off to compete for a throne that is already rightfully hers. The group is as thick as thieves and despite all they go through they are there for each other and support each other. All of them are highly trained, lethal fighters. Hence the line "Pretty," "They are bloody lethal."
Lowan our main FMC may come across as quiet but she has so much to say, she shines her light for all to see and her magic is powerful. She comes into her full strong self during the book. Dacre is a MMC and that man has it all. Magic, speaking into other minds, a piece of my heart, touch her and die type yet he is the calm to Lowan's storm. The spice between these two is phenomenal. Their relationship touched my in a way only a good author can do.
Tavor may not be the mmc but he stole the show for me. Tavor is loyal, filled with the best one liners as well as touch her and die. The "side" characters are anything but that in this book they each have their own past and help to make the book what it is. The time at Morgol, has different trials and some epic fight scenes, betrayal, magic, love and it had me not wanting to put it down. The presentation of pairs is absolutely breath taking and trying hard not to spoil it but damn Tavor is the man.
The author leaves little breadcrumbs through the story and the spicy parts don't distract from the epic world building. The writing had me in a Blue Silk spell. The Law of Blue Silk is in a world of it's own and I ate it all up. It has so many twists and turns that my head was spinning. The ending well I don't think I have the words to describe it so now I must pick my jaw up off the floor and process my emotions. This book now hold a piece of my heart. Reen Girl for life!!

Rating: 3.5⭐️ (I chose to round up to 4 here)
Spice: 1-2 🌶️

Thank you to the author who let me have the chance to read this as an eARC, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and really enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this book a lot, the characters, the general storyline, the setting, all of it. This is going to be a very interesting series and I’m already curious to see what happens in book 2 of The Drowning series.

I thought there were some great moments of tension between characters and I liked that this was a fantasy with drama and stakes.

The drop in rating was purely down to a small aspect of the storyline involving side characters. It was something that personally just didn’t work for me as much but this didn’t affect the overall enjoyment of the book. The fact it played a small-ish role is why I was happier to round up to 4 stars as a rating rather than down to 3 stars which I often tend to do.

Some tropes or info:
Romance, Fantasy, Forced Proximity, academia setting, morally grey characters, violence and bloodshed, magic, fated mates, political drama. Some spice / open door moments.

Also - there is a background for one character (not main) that involved assault. This may be something some readers wish to know before reading

What an amazing story! Based on the book’s title and description this was not the kind of story I was expecting at all, and I loved every second of it! I was drawn in right from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down. The story itself is creative, the world building immersive and detailed, and the magic system unique. The characters are written well, complex and flawed. The side characters are just as important as the main characters and you can’t help but route for them (or silently wish for a slow end, if you know what I mean). I loved the plot so much. I had no idea what was going to happen next. I had my suspicions but there are so many plot twists and turns it wasn’t always predictable. The ending had my jaw legit hanging open and I had to reread it at least 3 times to make sure I read it right. I am so excited for the next book, and I’ll need to have a physical copy of this one on my shelf.

If you love romantasy, enemies to lovers, found family, fated mates, forced proximity, animal companions, and fae and magic then I definitely recommend this!

Thank you so much to the author for a gifted advanced reader copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review, and all thoughts are my own.

The Law of Blue Silk is a hauntingly beautiful romantasy layered with secrets, danger, and quiet tension that never lets you feel fully settled.

With immersive worldbuilding and multiple POVs, the story centers on Lowan—a fierce, lost princess meant to rise. Set in Morgol, an academy designed to crown the next queen and king, the narrative unfolds through deadly trials, corruption, and whispered truths that slowly unravel everything you think you understand.

What stood out most was the atmosphere: every chapter carries an undercurrent of suspicion, making you question motivations, alliances, and choices alongside the characters. The found family dynamic is powerful, the romantic tension simmers, and the emotional stakes are deeply tied to the fate of the world itself.

The ending left me reeling in the best way—equal parts emotional and unsettling—and solidified this as a story that lingers long after the final page.

If you enjoy romantasy with found family, enemies to lovers, fated mates, morally gray choices, and high-stakes consequences, this book deserves a spot on your TBR.

Hands down my new favourite romantasy! I was completely swept up in this world.

I don't have the words to do it justice. It's phenomenal, *chefs kiss*, my new obsession...

The story and world-building are so immersive and just keep unfolding, revealing more and more as you go, and I loved every second. Fae, magic, animal companions, magical academia, enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, brutal trials, and oh so many secrets… honestly, what more could you want?

And the characters? Incredible. Lowan our FMC is powerful, fierce, and resilient, but the side characters shine just as brightly. They have so much depth that you care about them just as much. Special shoutout to my boy Dae - plus Twitch, Ari and Tav, who I absolutely adored.

A lot of romantasy can feel predictable lately, but this one kept me on my toes right until the very end.

Even though I have an ebook, I’ll definitely be adding a hard copy to my shelf.

The only downside? Now I have to wait for book two and I so desperately want to read it!

It has taken me a while to write this review, as I am still in awe of this story. It is absolutely fantastic and a beautifully written romantasy.

It had me hooked from the first couple of chapters and I had that excited giddy feeling about what was about to unfold. I am a lover of realm building plots and this nailed that brief for me.

To top it off the characters are amazing and all had their place within the story. I loved the strength in the female characters along with the male characters who are selfish at times but they all stood out as individuals.

I need to find out what happens in the next installment and I am so ready.

If you love romance, forced proximity and morally grey mmc run and read this!

The Law of Blue Silk is a refreshing take on the academia setting. By introducing a situation where the students are actively looking to pair off on top of their other endeavors and where those pairings have influence on the end game brings a fresh perspective to the genre.

The lore was rolled out perfectly throughout the book so as to keep you entertained and also wanting more. I really enjoy a good animal companion and if you do too this book has a great one. I instantly fell in love with the beautiful setting and enthralling worldscape and I'm sure you will too, hopefully we get more in this world in the future!

Oh my gosh I just finished this masterpiece and I am GUTTED. This was such a unique book with such different characters. It is written in multiple POV and at first I wasn’t so sure about it, but after a while I really liked reading the different POVs.
Lowen is such a strong FMC and she has what it takes to be such a good leader. Even though she can be a little naive. Just like every girl who likes boys.
Daecre is a smoke show. He is an amazing MMC and he is true to himself. I really like the son of Hell itself.
I can’t wait for book 2 and see where the story goes from there.

I stayed up WAY too late to finish this story, and then immediately messaged the author expressing my utter devastation. Thankfully, book 2 is in the works because I was a wreck for days and couldn’t pick up another book… One of the best ARCs I’ve read in a while, and considering this is a debut novel, I expect to see the author’s name become widely known.

The setting was amazing. The world building was natural and the academic setting fit in with little explanation. I loved the magical and political systems as they felt quite fresh and unique, as well as the goals of the MCs.

Speaking of the characters, wow! I felt a strong connection with the FMC right away, and that MMC, Dacre, is absolutely swoon worthy with his dark, broody persona. Lowan, the FMC is a fighter, trained to be a lethal weapon and truly needs no saving. The secondary characters were also a delight with their witty banter and unique personalities. It was refreshing not to have too many side characters, but to be invested in the ones that were presented.

The spice was minimal and tastefully done to avoid overshadowing the exceptional plot and characters. There are little easter eggs hidden throughout that really helped drive the story and made the final scenes so impactful.

I cannot wait for book 2 to continue this journey! I will be adding this book to my trophy shelf as soon as I can. If you are a fan of Bridgerton, Fourth Wing, and excellent banter, this one is for you!

Thank you for the advance copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I honestly can't get the characters and this story out of my head - and I had the absolute pleaseure of getting to read The Law of Blue Silk a while ago now! Think Bridgerton, meets Fourth Wing, meets the Hunger Games. That's the vibe, and it completely delivers.

The Law of Blue Silk is engaging from the very start, more-ish throughout, and with an FMC and MMC who are endearing, intriguing and layered. But what really sets this apart is that the story isn't lost without them - the side characters are fantastic too, with their own depth, their own emotional investment, their own storylines I actually cared about. I think it's something Fourth Wing does really well, and TLBS absolutely nails it too.

My favey is Fenegan - sweet, but deadly protective 😏🗡️ - and then there's Dacre, whose build throughout the story was so subtle it was total brilliance. Let's just say I have very strong feelings about who our FMC is meant for 😏

Unique plot, amazing characters, and classic romantasy vibes done to perfection. Waiting for book two feels like pure torture - I need more now!🩵
