The third companion book to AURORA's discography, featuring an extra 16 pages of exclusive material.
"I named my first album All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend to help welcome the sadness into our lives more as a friend than a part of you. Because I think we’re better at being good to our friends than we are to ourselves. Especially when we feel that we are made of things we dislike.
This book will be a bit different, since I could not for the life of me find the original book of thoughts and poems surrounding my first album. But I searched and I scrambled. Through hundreds of other notebooks and photographs. And for most of the pieces included, I wrote down what I could remember of stories and emotions surrounding the journey this album took me on." - AURORA
This fully illustrated book has been curated by AURORA as a celebration of the 10th anniversary of her 2016 debut album All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend. It features beautiful pages from her early notebooks and sketches, alongside specially written commentary, exclusive photography, behind-the-scenes footage from early concerts and music shoots, and full album lyrics.
Aurora is one of my most favorite artists ever. Her debut album "All My Demons Greeting Me as A Friend" had saved me countless times as a teenager. Attending her concert here in Manila, Philippines was definitely one of the highlights of my entire life that I will never forget. Her book like this, the companion book of her album "The Gods We Can Touch", is the first physical book I purchased from a music artist.
Evidently I love everything about her. I love everything about this book. I love her explanations about each song in this album and it was nice to reminisce her debut era and learn her thoughts, feelings, and poetry in that time of her life. Now I want to listen to the whole album again knowing the deeper stories behind each song. And I definitely will.
If you're a Warrior and Weirdo, this is a must-read. A must have, I think. It's just a special book. Like Aurora. Thank you, Aurora, for everything you are and do.
I connected with Aurora's music around the STEPS era. Somehow, AMDGMAAF is the least explored album for me (doesn't mean I haven't listened to it a thousand times. The others, a couple thousand probably). I enjoyed this book because I like how adult Aurora reflects on her beginnings as a musician. And I also love to find new ways to connect with her art. Her words always tickle different parts of my mind and soul. Her music always makes me feel lucky to be alive and have functioning ears and an understanding heart.
Is it too much to ask for IOADK and ADKOH books now?
I snagged my second signed book from AURORA and what a treat it was! I became a fan of AURORA long after this album released, so I think I had the most to learn from this book. She is a creative spirit and she inspires me to embrace my creativity more fully.
She mentions that she lost her original notebook where she wrote her her original songs for her debut album so unlike the previous, she actually writes more detail and context about her thoughts and emotions. I extremely loved the book and appreciate her being so open by sharing such private thoughts and being so vulnerable with us fans. That personal page at the start really hit me and reminded me of how I also write in my own journal. Thank you really Aurora. You’ve done so much at such a young age but the wisdom of how we should treat our demons is applicable for all ages. I hope we do treat them as guests and visitors and friends more than treating them as a part of ourselves. Thank you Aurora!
Aurora is my favorite artist of all time. While I didn’t become obsessed with her music by the time this album came out, songs like Warrior and Runaway have been a part of my life for a long time, maybe even close to the release of the album and they spoke to me. It wasn’t until years later I truly discovered the world of Aurora and fell in love, but also felt connected. Reading this book is incredible to know the feelings she had at the time and how she has grown and learned from them, not only as an artist but as a person. Aurora has always found a way to speak directly to me in her music, reading this, I can see why.
A recall. Aurora remembers and webs her past, trying to connect and make sense of pictures, lyrics and drawings. Giving a new and unique way to show the behind of an album. The previous books followed the same structure (lyrics - pictures - research), this book feels new, refreshed, i'm not reading the 2010-2015 aurora, i'm reading a mature aurora connecting with her younger self. In here, Aurora provides her new perspective, her words are marked with the wisdom only time can bring upon us.
Beautiful, intimate look into the very personal first album and its process. Thank you for sharing, Aurora. That first "journal" page hit so close to home. It was touching, it looked like a page out of my younger self's journal. Thank you for making me feel like I'm not the only out here who has had such feelings. Your openness with your emotions is something to look up to.
This is a book that will make you sit and stare for a while once you've finished it. What can I say? Wow. Even if you've never heard Aurora's music, I recommend this book. Her poetry and philosophy will stay with me forever. I will try to quote some here I'd I can.... go listen too!
So amazing going into her mind of the first album that made her an artist! Love the stories behind the songs and the pictures! I’ll always love AURORA.
