1.5 stars, I was interested enough to go to 70% of the book, but then I just lost my mind.
You have the MMC. I can't call him a hero because he is the WORST. The first we see of him, he is out of control angry because his daughter got hurt at school. He does not ask why, what happened, how she is, how she's feeling - absolutely ZERO questions before he threatens the principal, the teacher, the entire school with his massive billionaire power. It's unreal. How did a 34yo person get in charge of an empire losing his mind like that? I guess the author wants to show us he really loves his daughter, but he didn't even ask his daughter how she was!
Enter FMC. She's massively rich herself and has her own foundation. She was the teacher helping out that day, and did a great job. MMC threatens her and tells her she has to now spend her summer teaching his kid. What the what? FMC fortunately is not an idiot and doesn't agree. She does agree to have kiddo come to her charity foundation to help out. Said foundation is for women's health, but this 12yo kid loves it.
So the MMC is horrible, but I like the FMC, so I continue to read. Turns out that the FMC tried to kiss the MMC when they were kids. MMC felt rejected for an unknown reason as FMC says he pulled away. I never understood. What's creepy about this? They are FIVE YEARS APART. So that's not a big deal today, but a 13yo and an 18yo? Yuck. I honestly could not get past this for most of the book. Probably because they kept bringing it up.
Fast forward to later on in the book where they both want to buy the same hotel. FMC is warm and loving and has a good relationship with hotel owner. MMC practices the same techniques that won him POS of the year in the school office. He threatens the hotel owner with destroying his hotel if owner doesn't choose him. Really. Where did this guy get his MBA and how does he stay in business?
It was at this point that I said "enough." Who likes this book? Who thinks this dude is a good guy or even a horrible guy turned good. He is NOT. Even his grand gesture at the end wasn't even his - he took it from his brother! Also, what is going on with the title? And the next book about the brother? Apparently he has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars gambling. I guess he's the charmer (eye roll). I just cannot get over who would like this kind of "hero."
For my positives, I will start with that I truly did appreciate the strength in the FMC. I also did love the MMC daughter, she was very likable and someone I was cheering on through out the book.
As for the negatives, the characters hatred of each other was very frustrating. The animosity came from such small reasons from so long ago, it just didn’t qualify into what their relationship should be now. I am not usually an enemies to lovers reader, so maybe I’m just not used to this style? I did finish the book, but overall left it feeling ‘that’s fine.’
I’m starting to really like this author haha, so much that I look forward to the next release. I liked the relationship between Aria and Evie and how she was a mentor to her. And she’s Hawaiian too!!! I’m Hawaiian, so it was amazing to see the representation. Wish more billionaires can be like this haha.
Sebastian and Aria have a love hate existence they love to have each other, then they are competing with each other for a hotel that they both want. Aria for nostalgic reasons, Sebastian for what else but bussnes of course. But during the course of this book it changes in a way neither expected it to.
I wonderful story without the gratuitous sex that takes entire chapters to wade through. I love a good romance but have grown tired of the long drawn out sex scenes that seem to be filler to stretch the length of the book and do nothing to further the story. This is NOT that! A wonderful story, engaging characters and a thoroughly satisfying ending!
Shattered Crown is a cute story without a bite to it. It bordered close to boredom and I was not impressed. Overall it is ok but it took me way longer as it should to read this book. I'm not sure I will read the second book, maybe in a few weeks I will give it a try. Oh, and if you look for any kind of spice, well, there is none.
All I can say is hated the main character Aria. She was a spoiled rotten little rich brat. I couldn’t finish reading her because she was pretty much a turn off from the being. She needed to learn to speak about the issues instead of running away.
Almost a DNF. Grumpy Billionaire meets feisty heiress, a misunderstanding a decade ago has them hating each other. forced to spend a fortnight together in Hawaii while they bid on the same hotel. sounds great right, except the story folded faster than a napkin.
She was a busy woman running a non profit. He was a single dad who gave up on romance. His daughter brought them together again. She hating him and he definitely disliked her. Do they make it as a couple or does it blow up in the end? Read it and find out!
Drug on too slow! Didn’t like the h. At about halfway skipped to last chapter. Didn’t bother reading epilogue cuz it appeared to be a lead in to the next book. Not continuing the series.
I enjoyed th story. At least it wasn’t full of th em getting busy and the lady wasn’t some poor soul with no money or back ground and needed to be saved.
I love this book. I loved the enemies to lovers plot line with strong hatred. I love the build up of tension. The settings were beautiful, characters like able, and just a fun read.
