Sir Gerald is having great difficulties with Caroline, his eighteen-year-old ward. He has always been a doting guardian, shielding young Caroline from the truth about the differences between men and women and what they do behind closed doors. But now Caroline has become much too curious for her own good, to the point where he must bring himself to punish her repeatedly for hiding in closets in an attempt to witness the pleasures he takes with his mistress.
At his wit’s end, Sir Gerald calls upon the services of Dr. Reginald Brown and his colleague Dr. James Fairleigh. After a thorough, intimate examination, the physicians decide that since Caroline is of age, it would be appropriate for her to become acquainted with the pleasures a man can bring a woman. Instead of marrying her off to someone who won’t give her the freedom Sir Gerald can afford, the men decide that Dr. Fairleigh will personally oversee young Caroline’s erotic education.
After Caroline is made to observe Sir Gerald’s couplings for the first time, however, her wide-eyed innocence stirs Dr. Fairleigh far more than he thought possible. When she implores him to take care of her, the young doctor finds himself promising that he will. Before he knows it, she has utterly claimed his heart, and he can’t imagine her being given to anyone else. But can he rescue Caroline from Sir Gerald’s plans for her before it is too late?
Publisher’s Note: Innocence Examined is an erotic novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes, medical play, anal play, exhibitionism, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.
Emily Tilton, whose books have hit number one on Amazon in six different erotica categories, wishes she could live out her fantasies of submission the way her characters do.
Emily's erotica is a narrative version of her nearly lifelong quest to reconcile her submissive erotic orientation with her ethics. She writes erotic romance, but her books are always frankly and unashamedly about sex, because writing about sex helps her understand that fundamental part of her life better. She hopes maybe it does the same for her readers.
Over the many years since Emily became aware of her sometimes unbearable craving for spanking, ravishment, and all the shameful things that go with it, she has tried to come to terms with that craving in more ways than she can count. The first of the ways was by reading, voraciously, every piece of BDSM erotica she could find.
Eventually, she read "Story of O." As is reflected throughout her work, it changed her life, though the change has been gradual, and continues to this day. The idea that other women might share the lusts she has by turns been ashamed of and defiantly proud of, that a woman like the real Pauline Réage might write so beautifully of those lusts, and work them out so thoroughly and even pitilessly on a character, put Réage's famous pencil in her right hand. Or, to put it in the terms of EXPLORATIONS, which she considers her magnum opus, it put her left hand on the keyboard of her laptop and her right hand in her lap, if you know what she means. Emily started to write spanking stories.
Plot. What plot? There's no plot, just lots and lots of debauchery. Also, don't get me started on Dr. Brown whatever theories. I'm here exclusively for the sexy times 😜
Emily Tilton has tried to expound the philosophy of the right of the phallus of a natural man having the right to fuck whomsover he chooses as long as she can be made agreeable, and in whatever orifice he chooses, and he also has the right to whip, cane, spank or birch his female as and when he chooses. Shades of de Sade, methinks.
Hmmm, many modern feminists would go to town on this.
The story basis is the attempted and planned seduction of an 18 year old virgin by older men, but then attraction and love gets in the way of lusts, when one Dr James Fairleigh arrives on scene...which will win, traditional society, love and emotion, or a new philosophical theory put into practice? Readers find out. There’s sadism, humiliation, and the need for the females to be not only submissive but also to have masochistic tendencies.
Now negatives, the first chapter especially is in need of editing...I highlighted a few pick ups. This makes the first chapter a ... do I read or abandon this story, situation. Secondly, the supposed philosophy comes out in parts, no full philosophy given to start, and in a way I think that would help readers make more sense of the complex storyline. This is not one to rush, skim or scan read...it takes a little absorbing.
Historically, it’s reasonable.
The Victorians were hypocrites, the apparent morality of that era in public compared to much that went on in private is partially reflected here. Sodomy/buggery was illegal...but anal and oral sex were quite common practice and a form of contraception, certainly among the middle and upper classes. This is also reflected here.
If edited better I would give this four star, if only for the interesting attempt at a variant philosophy that I think the Marquis de Sade would have loved. However, as it stands, three stars from me.
I found this one just too confusing. I couldn't figure out why there were so many men around nor keep them straight. There were even so many women. Oiy! The idea of this is good but too many characters just kept me distracted instead of engaged and voyeurism is NMK (not my kink) so that did not appeal at all. IF that is your kink then you might enjoy this one for the scene's alone - certainly there are enough of them.
Yet again a rather interesting story by Madame Tilton.
This one leads me to a debate with myself about women's status in romance. Obviously the story is erotic, very much so, but it's also a romance where paradigms are exaggerated and distorted by the erotic context.
The author's favorite contexts seems always the same. Young women crave to be punished by men and submit to their will. When you know that and you had accepted it you can fully enjoy E.Tilton stories. I do. Most of the time. Because the interesting parts in E.Tilton books are her theories beyond the obvious desire to share her taste for the BDSM with the reader. It could be quiet annoying sometimes, which is not the case here, but always surprising. So, even if I don't share E. Tilton's tastes, I can only respect her work, which is provocative, arousing and seriously fun.
A lot of characters involved, but this book really built the whole scene with dramatic flourish leading to a thrilling conclusion. In this book a young doctor assigned to spy on our Dr. Brown becomes a convert to the cause and we see all th characters come to terms with the more "natural" lifestyle they all desire to live
I enjoyed this book, it had a lot of good elements to it and often well described sexual encounters. However, the language was often hard to follow and the ending a bit rushed!
An interesting book. A lot of back and forth as to what to do with Caroline and not a bad story overall, but definitely written to be an erotic, arousing, sexual book.
The warning on this book is correct, but should be more specific as well as the books description. This review hopes to clarify the extent of its content.
This book does not have a traditional lovey dovey happy ending- so if you like the “... and they lived happily ever after” ending (like I do) this is not your book.
The 3 stars given are based on over all writing and character development- not on content.
Ok. I must admit... I do enjoy stories with an element of BDSM and some taboo subject matter.. although through this book I have found that I enjoy it on a much lighter and much less psychological level than this book puts forth.
At first I couldn’t pin point what it was that bothered me about this story, then after really thinking about it I believe it was the idea that the starry eyed and trusting main character was so unknowingly taken advantage of both psychologically and physically that I wasn’t too comfortable with. Also the callousness in which she’s treated and shown no real love... I just didn’t find it arousing- though some might!
**It is good the know that the story plays off the fact that in the Victorian era many different philosophies of self discovery and living were being introduced to society and some of them were just plain messed up and backwards.
The story revolves around a beautiful, sheltered and innocent 18 year old girl, her guardian and a very extreme and intense masochistic philosophy called “The Way of Natural Men” which is a philosophy of life where women are “play things” and only meant to satisfy men’s bodily needs for any and all sexual pleasure and various carnal cravings. According to the philosophy a woman’s “Natural Owner” is to punish her as his needs see fit to ensure continued her “natural” need and desire for submission and obedience. For this she is to be ensured sexual pleasure as reward and as a way to satisfy her owners natural need to show caring- any pleasure beyond this is at the owners needs and discretion.
The Story:
At first, the guardian shields his ward from the non-traditional elements of his household in order to give her a more traditional future (i.e. A husband and children) but after 10 years in his care, the now woman, becomes curious and starts poking around for answers to her questions about her body and other various things she’s now noticing in the household.
The guardian asks the doctor who developed this extreme masochistic theory of living to help answer the girls inquiries. The doctor brings along his trainee doctor to show him, and to help convince him of his theory.
After her sexual readiness is examined, It is decided by the doctor that this girl is the perfect wanton female specimen and that the best, overall, course of action is for her to be trained in the ways of this extreme theory and ultimately brought to the remote island where a colony of his faithful followers and their mistresses will be moving (including the girls guardian) to live as they please. She is to be used in a special ceremony to christen the island.
The trainee doctor, who falls in love with the innocent girl at first sight is, in fact, swayed to agree with the doctor’s new and extreme theory but is secretly unsure about the doctors idea of the “special ceremony” and intends to save her from it.
After participating and assisting in her training, the trainee doctor decides to become the girls “Natural owner” and does saves her... sort of.
I’m glad I read the book though. I opened my eyes to what I like and don’t like in an erotic novel, which is very helpful :)
This book/series is very HOT for me. In this book Caroline is learning about what goes on between "husband and wife". In the Victorian time the innocent believed this only happened in the marriage bed. Caroline is schooled in "real" life (at least the world that Sir Gerald is trying to create) - BUT with a lot of submission with pain and humiliation. Sir Gerald is creating a community where all men have the "right of the phallus." Caroline learns (man I hate to say this in today's world - because I don't believe it) that the men in her world have the right to exercise their natural masculine rights over the female. But this book is full of submission and punishment. HOT - HOT - HOT! I totally love the books in this series (my 2nd book). If the rest of the books are as great as the 2 I have read so far - this is a series to be devoured!
I enjoyed the idea of the experiment, I think gothic England at this time was very into experimentation. The training involved, ownership and degradation were shown in a light of acceptance in accordance with ones desires. Good job
