Men of Echo Ridge #6

Echo: Vendetta

Rate this book
I’ve been dead for ten years.

That’s what the world believes.
That’s what Victoria Cross believes.

She walks into Echo Base furious, wounded, and hunted by the Committee I’ve been dismantling from the shadows. She looks at me like I betrayed her.

I let her think I was executed.
I let her grieve me.
Because staying dead kept her alive.

Now the Committee has destroyed her network and marked her for death. Kane orders us to work together, and I don’t hesitate. Walking away was never an option not when I’d burn the world to protect her.

Every mission strips away control.
The chemistry is still dangerous.
The trust is broken.
And the enemy is closing in.

Victoria wants blood.
I want strategy.

But vendetta doesn’t care who survives.

If we make it out alive, I’ll have to prove I’m not disappearing again and decide if a second chance with the woman I never stopped loving is worth the war it will cost.

She lives in Florida with her pack of loyal basset hounds (who firmly believe they run the household), and when she’s not writing steamy scenes or plotting revenge for her latest heroine, she can usually be found riding horses, walking the beach, or chasing her next adventure on the river.

Echo:Vendetta is Victoria Cross’s story, and the woman is even stronger then i already thought.
She survived the loss of her brother James,as well as the loss of the man she loved,Roman Frost.
And she used those losses instead of allowing them to cripple her,to let her drown in grief.
The woman she is today is built on those losses, and her goal since has always been to make the ones responsible pay.
Until the man she grieved for all those years comes back, just in time to pull her out of the line of fire…..
Her entire network has been destroyed, and now that they’re coming for her,Roman knows the time has come to reappear and take her to safety.
To give her a chance to retaliate, with the people she’d been feeding her intelligence to.
And hopefully with him….even if she hates him for making her think he was dead all those years.
What they had back then may have been lost, but he still hopes for a chance to gain something new, something better.
Victoria’s love for Roman has been reduced to ashes, but beneath those ashes something still simmers.
And while working closely together again, planning her vendetta against the Committee,it slowly builds into something she doesn’t want to examine just yet.
But if there’s one thing Roman has learned in those years,it’s patience.
He wíll wear her down and get her back…..even if it kills him,for real this time!

Victoria is a powerhouse,a woman you can’t do anything but admire, even while you empathise with her for the losses she’s suffered.
Roman is a man you can’t help, but love….he was supposed to be dead, and it made him stay clear of the woman he’s loved for so long, thinking it was the only way to keep her safe.
And it cost them both so much…..

Knowing the last book in the series,Echo:Code,is coming makes me a little anxious.
It’s Tommy’s story,and i’ve gotten a little hint of what lies ahead.
I know the team is strong,i know the team has been smarter than the enemy.
But what the enemy is planning has me bracing for what’s to come…..

This is a Second Chance Romantic Suspense, and this is the sixth book in the Men of Echo Ridge series. I have read the first five books in this series before picking up this book, and I do think this series is better if read in order. This book is the story of Victoria Cross and Kane Frost. Victoria Cross has been a secondary character throughout the other books, and I am so happy to get to know her. I loved her character. I really loved the second chance romance in this book, and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. I cannot wait to see how this series wraps up. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

A dead man walks into her room and suddenly everything she's done is at risk. She built her network to battle the very people who "killed" him and now they are killing her assets one by one and they're coming for her. Vix can't forgive Roman for letting her think he was dead, but now he's here and he's determined to protect her and just maybe get her forgiveness. A cat and mouse game with the Committee which Echo Base is battling as well. Can she accept their offer to protect and help her? Will she ever forgive Roman? I loved the way Roman provided just what Vix needed despite the 10 years he's been "dead". I just couldn't stop reading! Victoria has been through so much in life her brother's death scarred her deeply but losing the only man who made her feel protected, loved and safe consumed her with even greater grief. Yet, she refused to be broken, instead of succumbing to her pain she used it to rebuild herself becoming stronger, smarter, and far more lethal, she built an entire network based on that pain and transformed into vengeance personified determined to make the Committee pay for everything they took from her.

Now everything is at risk her network has been breached, her world is crumbling and her life hangs in the balance, in the midst of this chaos, someone she thought was dead reappears Roman. The man who faked his death returns, completely altering the course of her life.

Roman was always good at his job and the sacrifices he made came at a terrible price faking his death was, for him, the only way to protect Victoriaeven if it meant breaking his own heart. From the shadows he watched over her saw her suffer her loss and also saw her rise, grow, and become unstoppable, now that everything is at risk he decides to return to protect her once more, even though he knows nothing will be easy.

Victoria still has feelings for him but the pain remains and she's not willing to be hurt again, as she tries to salvage what's left of her network and take down the Committee, she understands she can't do it alone. She needs help; she needs Echo, agreeing to join the team means something more difficult than any mission working alongside the man she still loves.

The tension between them is constant, Victoria fights her feelings, tries to build walls to protect herself, while Roman accepts the price of his decisions and knows that regaining her trust won't be easy. Even so, he doesn't give up, he loves her and is willing to show it with actions, with patience and with every step he takes by her side.

Little by little, between missions, memories and shared moments they begin to reconnect, the pain is still there but so are the feelings that never truly faded. Victoria understands that her heart always belonged to Roman, even though trusting again involves enormous risk, Roman for his part shows her that this time he's here to stay.

Together, they become an unstoppable force once more, they not only confront the Committee but they also rebuild what they once had. In the process Victoria finds something she thought was lost a family in Echo and a place she can finally call home. She is no longer alone.

The end is near and all the pieces are in place, the final battle against the Committee promises justice, closure and the chance to heal all the damage done. Victoria is ready to collect every debt not only for herself but for everyone she loves.

This book is filled with intense emotions, love, pain, tension and incredibly beautiful moments. Victoria and Roman's evolution is amazing to read, they both had so much healing to do and they achieve it in a very special way. In the end, they not only reunite as a couple but also as a team, ready to face whatever comes and build a future together.

Without a doubt, discovering Delta's writing has been one of the best things and this story completely confirms it ❤️

Echo: Vendetta

Mindblowing, intense, an action filled storyline that will spike your pulse rate. Victoria fascinated me from her first appearance in the Echo series and now it's her story. The ultimate Iron lady with her vast information base and assets. She thought Roman was dead, but when the Committee started to kill off her assets one by one, Kane sent Roman to extract her. He thought he protected her by pretending to be dead, she saw it as betrayal. Working closely together with the Echo team their working rhythm is still intact, but trust needs to be rebuilt. The years did not diminish their piping hot attraction, but he had to patiently wait for her walls to come down. As much as she wants to have her vengeance she needs to look at the bigger picture, to kill Volkov won't bring back the dead, but dismantling his structures etc the reach to curtail Webb and the Committee will hit hard. Once again Delta's meticulously designed details and scenic writing were mesmerising and kept me glued to the book non stop reading. Decidedly a phenomenal series which will come to an end with the next book.

After much thought…

I couldn’t give this book the full five star rating. Without any spoilers, here are my reasons.
This is the second book in the series where a lost love reappears after betraying the trust of a woman by disappearing. This is also the second book where the relationship is between an intelligence agent and an operations expert.
In the previous books in the series the fact that Cross hates the collective because they killed her brother is stated frequently. If Roman existed and worked with Echo Ridge, they would have known that Cross also believed that the collective executed her MI6 partner even if they didn’t know about their closer relationship. That loss should have been mentioned with her brother in previous books.
I was also getting annoyed by the overuse of the word patience.
I found it hard to accept the existence of Roman and hard to like Cross.
I plan to read the final book when it comes out, but I’m not looking forward to it as much as I was before book 6.

I have been waiting for Victoria Cross' story. Victoria has been such a strong, no-nonsense, and incredibly smart asset to Echo Ridge throughout the series. I didn’t expect the second-chance romance angle, but I really liked how it revealed her pain and vulnerability. Roman’s determination to break through her wall, especially knowing he feels partly responsible for them, added a level of depth to their story.

It’s a rocky road for both operatives as they work through their emotions amid nonstop action, danger, and suspense. Even after the warehouse incident, I was still holding my breath. I highly recommend the series since each book builds on the larger storyline, but if you jump in mid-series, read at least one or two prior books to get your footing in Echo Ridge. Rating: 4.5 Stars

I have been so looking forward to Victoria’s story and it was worth waiting for. A second chance romance like no other and very different to the other Echo Ridge stories. There was much less physical action but so much more intellectual action and the intensity was off the charts. Finding your first love ten years after he supposedly 'died' is huge, but added to finding out your entire network has been exposed and most of your people killed would be enough to destroy most people but not Victoria. Reading this story is like being in a John Le Carre movie full of atmosphere and brilliant minds and is so completely absorbing you don't want it to end.

Victoria and Roman were together in the past, until he died.
Now, he is back on her doorstep to extract her before the Committee finds her.
This is a slow build to a complicated mission to compromise the Committee which leaves a tantalizing hook to the next book. There is plenty of action and romance to keep you turning to the end. Previous characters slip seamlessly into the story and enhance the story.
This is another great story and stepping stone to the promising climax to the series.

I’ve seen glimpses of Victoria Cross over the course of the Echo Ridge series and I enjoyed her story. It’s not an easy read; it starts with death and violence. I thought the development of the plot and characters was well done and it really held my attention. The continuity was good and I thought the storyline flowed well with no repetition or timeline gaps. I like the way things came together for Victoria to get some necessary closure and for her and Roman to get their HEA.

This one I think was the most intense of this series. Victoria starts off in the series as just an intelligence person they buy info from not particularly close to them and to be honest I don’t think they fully trust her. I dont think they are completely sure where she gets the intelligence she sells them but since the intel is good they pay for it. But then the committee comes for her and they send the one man to save her that she thought was dead. The one man she loved.

I was riveted . Victoria and Roman make a formable team, even though he allowed her to think he was dead. The worldbuilding was phenomenal. I liked the critical thinking and what they planned with the Echo Ridge team.

The flow was good. POV of each. And of course eventually steam to the romance. Here acceptance to life in the mountain and her acceptance of Roman was worth it. Can't wait for the conclusion of the series with Dar.

Amazing. I wanted Victoria Cross’s story. It was so well done. Interweaving her backstory into the plot of this series was clean. She and Roman have such chemistry and connection in every interaction. Passion and spice

along with intense strategy and violence. This plot continues to build on itself. Just well done.

This instalment of Echo Ridge is driven by Victoria Cross.
The woman who has helped Echo Ridge and it's occupants against all things to do with The Committee!
She is compromised. All her hard work for the last 10 years is being dismantled by Volkov, an operative of The Committee, who works closely with Webb!
The Committee are set to destroy her network and her, until a ghost from her past knocks on her door.
Former MI6 partner, Roman Frost stands on her door step, except he is supposed to be dead. She watched his assassination....Feeling violated and lost, Victoria cannot believe that Roman remained dead for 10 years...letting her grieve a partner not only professionally but also personally.
So starts their story after a 10 year hiatus.
And Roman is there to extract Victoria before The Committee forces find her.
And he takes her to Echo Ridge.
Watching in real time, her network through Europe being destroyed one link at a time, with her unable to protect her assets leaves Victoria wanting Revenge.....
So Starts Victoria's Vendetta, with the aide of Echo Ridge and its occupants, to bring Volkov to his knees and be one step closer to stopping all things Webb and The Committee.
Fast paced with a lot of angst, which I loved, as Vix (Victoria) and Roman try to remain civil as she comes to terms with him being alive for the last 10 years and not letting her know.
He had his reasons. He wanted to protect her....but instead he brought about her fury and her unable to forgive him.
As they had to work closely together, Kane wanted to make sure that they would not compromise the mission, as all who were near either of them could feel the tension.
But ever the professional, Vix was able to work as directed and perform in the field with Roman. Compartmentalising her feelings towards Roman and using her anger to anchor her.
Roman, having loved her since he first laid eyes on her has always been close by over the years ensuring her safety when he could.
He begins to dismantle her walls brick by brick, and this slow burn 2nd chance finally takes off after their first mission, with adrenaline running high, they take pleasure from each other. About time, but Vix is still determined to make Roman work hard to win her affections back. She is not ready to forgive.
Whilst all good Echo Ridge books have plenty of drama and romance, this book also did not disappoint, but definitely had Angst in spades!! Victoria was a hard nut to crack, but once Volkov was brought to his knees, both Vix and Roman had set new boundaries.....that they both agreed was right for them. She spent every night with him and he wasn't letting her go any time soon! A beautiful well deserved HEA for them both.

The latest in the Men of Echo Ridge series, this book focuses on information broker Victoria Cross and her former MI6 partner (and love interest) Roman Frost. There are two concurrent plots running throughout that weave together spectacularly despite the intensity they both carry. These characters are more guarded than most, with their pasts shrouded in covert shadow and emotions held tightly in check. There's tension between the MCs resulting from choices Roman felt compelled to make... choices Vix obviously disagrees with. Despite the tension interpersonal, they were forced to work as a unit to accomplish a task which would move forward the objective of Echo Ridge as well as a personal vendetta of Victoria's. Success would depend upon teamwork, and thus, dealing with their personal tension.

This book carries a recurring theme from previous works that (still) doesn't set quite well with me. Reunified former lovers (though labeling a single shared night as such seems presumptive here) who were separated because of MMCs choices and now FMC carries angerness and bitterness despite still loving him. It's the 3rd of the series with this description, and thus the relationship plot was much weaker than the action plot (IMO). Like the others, Roman received blame without understanding or consideration for his perspective. Honestly, from his perspective a decade earlier, I think he made the only call he could - and not out of control like blame wants to assign, but fear. Again, as with this whole review, that's my opinion. Still, 3 books without the FMC - or team - acknowledging what it cost the MMC gets under my skin (not in a good way). We are repeatedly reminded how NOT acting costs her, but what about him? That's the question floating in my head long after closing this book. Given there's only the finally book remaining I will read Echo: Code, simply to complete the series (and I'm interested in Tommy). At least I know it won't be a second chance love story given the lead-in. My rating reflects my frusteration with the tropes repetition and the obvious character (or gender) bias. The writing/editing was great, and the action plot was compelling. 3.5⭐️ rating is due to those factor's strength.

I received a copy of this book as a gift and voluntarily provided this review.

You know the quote about a "woman scorned"? Well what do you say about a women about to be exterminated? Victoria Cross is about to rain down a whole lot of hurt on those who are trying to get rid of her.

Victoria Cross has factored into all the books in this series. As an information broker for Kane and the rest of his Echo Ridge Team, Cross has built a massive intelligence network. It was how she coped after seeing the love of her life be executed and the loss of her brother, both actions of the Committee. For 10 years the gathering of contacts and communication have been her life. Suddenly it is all being taken away as the Committee under Webb go hunting her. But a knock on her door in London is about to change her world even more, when then man she though dead is on the other side.

Roman, her partner and the man she loved, did not die. But he stayed dead to her over the years only to show up as a ghost from her past. Typical man who thought he could protect her by staying dead had been keeping tabs of her over the years while working with Kane. But now her life is in danger and Roman can no longer sit on the sidelines watching.

And thus begins the cat and mouse game as these two, with the help of Echo Ridge, try to bring down the European branch of the Committee. The strength of their success will depend on being able to work together. But how do you do that when one of you feels such a deep betrayal, while at the same time, watching all the connection you made in the European Intelligence game be killed, having all your assets stolen and the anger you feel towards the man you love all collide together?

This is fast moving story as Cross and Roman work together to stop the European branch of the Committee. It means multiple trips between Echo Ridge and cities in Europe as they build the house of cards with the goal to ensure it tumbles down once and for all. And when you work together closely as these two do, will Cross's anger turn to forgiveness and love? I think we all know the answer to that.

I had originally thought this was the last book in the series and I will be honest, I did not want the series to end. Thankfully that is not the case. There is one more story to tell and one organization to destroy once and for all.

Amazing! I got this as a suggestion and decided I wanted to read the previous books in this series before I reviewed this. I am so glad I did. Cross's book wouldn't of been as impactful if I hadn't. Sure, you can read this as a standalone and still enjoy it, but it just better to read the previous books. The other character's books were a bit different than Cross's. You learn more and more about her in each book, and as your reading someone else's book, in the back of your mind your getting more and more excited for her book. It was like following bread crumbs. Each one collected is another piece of the puzzle that is Cross. I love a good angst story plot. This one did not disappoint. I'm glad it wasn't a quick "I forgive you" She made him gain her trust, one action at a time. Even by the end of the book, she never uttered the words "I forgive you" I don't think she is willing to forgive him for the betrayal, but she is willing to start over. I don't know if Delta meant for that way, but it's my personal interpretation. I would of been WAY more pissed at Kane and the other people who knew Roman was alive and allowed her to believe it, all the while using her for her for her intel. She was a kick ass character that took no sh*t from anyone, friend or foe. Although I think she bent for Kane a little too much. After all, he may be the Commander of Echo Ridge, but he would of failed in many of his missions if not for her.

On to Roman. He is one of those Intense character's that that his intensity is palpable. You could feel the angst between these two like a livewire. He knew one wrong move with her, he would lose any ground he had previously gained. He treated her like the predator she is. No sudden movements, chose his words carefully. Knew when to advance, and when to retreat. Patience and silence is his weapon of choice.

Overall this was a great book, and I can't wait until the finale Echo: Code comes out! Lots of steamy scenes, just enough to enjoy, but not so much if overwhelm the story plot.

This is the penultimate book in this series, a series that really needs reading in sequence.

The voice is the same, he looks the same, but it can't possibly be Roman Frost, Roman Frost is dead, I watched the video of his execution ten years ago.

Victoria Cross had been partnered with Roman Frost at MI6, he had been the love of her life and she was devastated by his death. Since then Victoria had built an international set up, she successfully brokered information, one such client was Echo Ridge.

At Echo Ridge is a team of highly trained ex military personnel whose sole purpose is to protect the public from people who would do them harm, one such set of people were "The Committee", a ruthless team who are well trained, well funded and well connected. The Committee had murdered Victoria's contacts one by one and she was now in their sights, this was the time, after ten years protecting her from the shadows, that Roman had to step in and reveal himself.

Victoria would never forgive him, she had grieved him for ten miserable years, but if she was to bring down The Committee she would begrudgingly need his help and the help of the skilled team at the hidden mountain command centre that is Echo Ridge.

This is the story of Victoria and Roman, she fighting her feelings for Roman and him biding his time as they cross Europe in their quest to bring down the Committee.

I have knocked one star off because of the repetition, there is only so many times that I can read about the smell of her hair etc, I also fount it a bit long winded at times, having said that, it is a gripping story, action packed with mounting tension and a combustive passion. I look for ward to reading the last story in the series.

I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.

There is something especially satisfying about a second-chance romance when the second chance feels impossible, and Echo: Vendetta delivers exactly that.

Roman and Victoria's story is packed with years of grief, unanswered questions, lingering feelings, and enough tension to keep the pages turning. From the moment these two are forced back into each other's orbit, the emotional weight between them is impossible to ignore. The hurt runs deep, the trust has been shattered, and neither of them is willing to let the other off the hook. That push and pull created some of my favorite moments in the book.

What I loved most was that this wasn't just a romance wrapped around a suspense plot. The danger, the missions, the intelligence work, and the constant threat surrounding them all felt like an essential part of the story. The stakes are high from beginning to end, and the action keeps the momentum moving while Roman and Victoria work through a decade's worth of pain and unfinished feelings.

Victoria is fierce, determined, and absolutely relentless when it comes to protecting the people she cares about. Roman is equally compelling, carrying the weight of difficult choices while never losing sight of what matters most to him. Together they create an intense dynamic filled with chemistry, frustration, loyalty, and undeniable love.

As the final book in the Men of Echo Ridge series, this felt like a powerful and emotional conclusion. It balances action, suspense, romance, and heart while giving readers a couple worth rooting for every step of the way.

If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers energy, second-chance romance, military and intelligence operations, protective heroes, capable heroines, and romantic suspense with high emotional stakes, this is one you'll want to pick up.

As always be mindful of trigger warnings, what I like you may not.
Happy Reading!

Wonderful addition to series, characters and the plot are wonderfully entertaining and well written
In this book Victoria Cross has been through so much tragedy and yet she still seems to use the experience that this has given her to work with others and to help those that might be in similar need. Then suddenly her world is turned on its head when a man she had believed dead for many years suddenly returns to her life so that he can actually save her from those that would do her harm.
Roman knows that Victoria is not safe that she is a target and he knows that she needs time so that the individuals that she provides intelligence to can use it to help her, to put a stop to those that would quite happily see her dead.
He is able to appreciate that she has been without him for so long and has grieved him, however she has never stopped caring for him and he hopes that given some time she may be able to feel more amenable to him, they have good memories from their past and need time to reconnect.
As Victoria and Roman work closely together to bring down justice against the committee once and for all her feelings are beginning to grow and build but she is playing her cards closely to her chest. Roman who knows her like he knows to breath and recognises that she needs time and then she will come to him, he is patient and can wait a little longer for the love of his life.
I guarantee that readers like myself will love the gentle build between these characters, it is honest and sweet and shows that bravery and love can overcome anything when the foundations are strong and Victoria and Romans story is living proof of this.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

Victoria Cross has worked with the Men of Echo Ridge for years, supplying them with intel in regards to the Committee. The Committee is a vicious organization who has hunted the men and location of Echo Base for years. Victoria has found that the people who have provided information, to her, are slowly being targeted. This is not a mistake, but a concerted effort to end her ability and efforts to destroy the committee. When those who have aided her are killed, she vows to seek those responsible and end the committee permanently. Echo: Vendetta is the sixth book in Delta James’s Men of Echo Ridge series, a second-chance suspense. Victoria Cross, a former MI6 agent who’s appeared as a side character throughout the series, survived the deaths of her brother James and the man she loved, Roman Frost. Those losses drove her to become one of the world’s top intelligence operatives. When her organization becomes a target, Roman—long presumed dead—returns to her life.

Roman has spent ten years watching over Victoria from afar, believing he was protecting her from the Committee that ordered his execution. Now he must face the consequences of the Committee’s campaign to eliminate her assets. Victoria, who refuses partners and family to avoid more guilt, finds exactly the connection she resists in Echo Team. Their push-and-pull—Victoria building walls and Roman chipping them away—could have been grating, but instead felt real and relatable.

Their reconnection is a slow burn, rebuilding both personal and professional trust. Even after a decade apart, their sync—on missions and off—rings true. Together they work to dismantle the organization that targeted them. The book balances tradecraft and action: intelligence gathering is given weight and detail rather than being glossed over, and the pace is deliberate rather than breathless. The romance is naturally integrated into the plot, and James’s worldbuilding and attention to setting kept me immersed from start to finish. The interplay of covert intelligence work and physical confrontation is particularly compelling.

Echo: Vendetta is book six in the Echo Ridge series and is an action packed emotional journey into the life and drama of Victoria Cross. The world building as in all the Echo Ridge books is intense and succinctly drawn through the cities of the Committe's European network. The technical, tactical and operational aspects of organizing a strike force to bring the Committee down will keep you tied to this story. You will not put this book down until the last page and it will leave you craving the last book in the series Dar's story. The intensity of the operation is interwoven with Victoria and Roman's story and it will be hard to read and not pick sides. I have to admit that through this series Victoria always left a bad taste in my mouth because I didn't know for sure where her loyalties were tied to. This story tells her past, and present traumas, loss, betrayals against her, passions and focus. You have to admire whst she has overcome. Be prepared for a bumpy ride as you read all the layers this book presents. Well done Delta James...well done!
