ARC review ~ Thank you Ever After Pr for the arc!
I went a bit back and forth for my rating on this book before settling that I felt this was a 3.5⭐️ read for me.
Overall I really enjoyed the concept of this. We have Harper (who 5 years ago signed up for a reality dating show that basically ended up changing her life and not for the better, it made her out to be the villain of the season, causing massive hate online for her) and Chance (the villain of his season) both returning to the show for its 10th season with other former competitors. An algorithm pairs them together and declares them "Perfect on Paper" (also the name of the show) and we follow their story over the course of 10 weeks of filming.
It was a fun summer read. What I wish was done a bit better was that this book time jumps between chapters (usually a few days when the show was filming) and I really wanted more of a continuous flow to the story instead of being told what happened during the time period skipped. I didn't feel a connection between our main characters until at least the half way point and I wanted a but more build up to that as well.
f you're looking for a fun read or a nice palate cleanser, I would still absolutely recommend this book for you! Like I said, it was a fun summer read and even with what I said above, I really enjoyed it!

The villain edit redemption we deserved!

Came Here For Love by Cassandra Diviak is everything I want in a contemporary reality TV romance — messy, meta, bingeable, and so full of heart.
The premise:
Five years ago, Harper Rhodes was that girl on Perfect on Paper. At 21, she took the villain edit hard and the internet made sure she never forgot it. Cue self-imposed exile, financial ruin, and a lot of unresolved trauma.
Now Season 10 is doing an All-Stars: Villains Edition, and Harper is forced back to clear her name and save herself. The twist? She's paired with Chance Averill — another villain seeking a second chance. He's creative, funny, annoyingly good at strategy, and plays his cards way too close to his chest. He's also everything she didn't know she wanted.
What I LOVED:
This is Villain x Villain, Forced Proximity / Paired Together, Strategic Dating, Redemption Arc / Second Chance at Fame, and Enemies to Lovers Slow Burn done perfectly.
Cassandra absolutely nails the reality TV machine — the confessionals, the producer manipulation, the way editing can ruin a 21-year-old's life. Harper's journey from "broke but not broken" to reclaiming her narrative felt so real and healing. And Chance? The wild card with a secret softie heart? I was kicking my feet.
Their chemistry is slow-burn chaos. You never know if they're strategizing or actually falling, and that tension? Delicious. The banter is sharp, the villa setting is pure summer sunset vibes, and the found family you get from the other "villain" contestants made me tear up.
Read if you like:
• The Bachelor / Love Island but make it bookish
• Redemption arcs for morally grey girlies
• "We're playing the game until the game plays us" romance
• Funny, creative MMCs who are secretly obsessed
Minor note: I wanted ONE more full epilogue scene after the final rose — I'm greedy for these two.
This book made me laugh, rage at producers, and swoon hard. Harper and Chance really did come here for love, and I came here for a 5-star read and got it.

BETA REVIEW:
I absolutely adored Harper and Chance’s story. From the very first chapter, it was clear that Harper was going to be one of those FMC’s that I could truly get behind. It was clear that she’d been wronged in the past, and this was her opportunity to gain back the life that she’d lost from that experience.
Cass’ writing style was incredible. I think that the way she wrote both Harper and Chance really added to the entire story. The tiniest details showed so many things in their relationship and how Harper was healing from her past.
I love it when a book can make me laugh, cry, and feel all the things. CHFL definitely did that. It was such a rollercoaster. There were moments when my jaw was on the floor, moments where I was laughing so hard my insides hurt, and wholesome moments between our main characters but also the entire cast of Perfect on Paper.
CHFL is the perfect beachy, summer read, full of yearning slow burn romance and sizzling drama so hot you’ll be squealing.

This one was very different from what I usually read, but I had the best time reading this. I loved Harper and Chance. I was rooting for them from the very beginning.
We follow our FMC Harper Rhodes, who at the age of 21 appeared on America's hottest dating tv show called Perfect on Paper. Unfortunately, that did work out well for her, she became public enemy no 1. After receiving threats, she went into hiding.
Out of cash and left with no minimal options, she has the opportunity to go back into the show for its 10th season and clear her name. She gets paired with Chance Averill, another villain seeking redemption.
Will they both find what they were looking for or will they leave alone again?
I loved Harper's character, boy oh boy has she been through some sh!t. Harassed constantly and receiving death threats. She is sick and tired of hiding. She is sweet and smart but very closed off. The Harper that enters that show isn't the Harper that leaves 10 weeks later. Her character growth was amazing!! 👌🏽
Chance, I loved him. He was kind and patient. He stood up for those who didn't stand up for themselves. He was a steady comforting presence in the show. He had also been painted as a villain in his previous season and took this opportunity to show people who he really is. He's very creative and clever.
He knew very early on that Harper was his girl. 🫠 and whenever he called her 'sweetheart' I was melting every time! The sweetest man!
The yearning and chemistry in this book was fantastic. They both felt it but have both been burned before so their walls were up. But when they came down, these two didn't hold back.
There were quite a few spicy scenes in this book. 🥵🔥
The setting of this was great each pair had their own condo and then would head off to do different activities in different locations. Loved going on all the adventures with them. And watvhing the relationships grow.
The plot was amazing. The pacing was good. I was constantly like 1 more chapter, that turned into several. I didn't want to stop I needed to find out what was going to happen.
Ooo the drama and plot twists in this book!! If you like reality tv shows, then I think you will eat this one up.
The ending was perfect! Couldn't have asked for anymore.
Highly recommend this one.

So grateful to have received this as an ARC!! I absolutely lovedddd reading this book. This book was inspired by different reality dating shows and people who become so engaged in these different forms of entertainment that they slowly forget that the people on their screens are real humans with feelings. Listen, we are all guilty of getting absolutely hooked on these shows and creating our own assumptions based on a few edited hours. However, some people take this way too seriously and to the extreme, working over-time to create the perfect villains to their narratives.
That’s exactly what happened to Harper and Chance. During their own respective seasons, a mix of production, editing, and the blood thirsty audience made these two seem like absolute villains. What the audience doesn’t realize is how much this impacted Harper, essentially secluding herself for years after endless hate, stalking, and death threats toward her and her family. Five years after her season, the old show produced gets exposed for manipulating the narrative and the new producers reached out to several old contestants to come back for their Redemption Arc at finding love.
This book was such a fun and heart pulling read. I truly felt for Harper and loved watching her open herself to air her side out, being vulnerable again, and also not letting her previous experiences stop her from reaching a hand out to new friendships and love. Watching Harper dip her toes in the water and slowly warm up to the other girls and truly going to essentially experience life and give herself a second chance felt so heartwarming. The way Chance also respected this and gave Harper her space while also watching and supporting her from her side was absolutely fucking incredible!! Those two have my whole heart and they made me giggle plenty of times. I definitely felt like I was watching this as if it were its own true reality show and I love the inclusivity and addition of different stories and outcomes of their relationships.
If you love reality tv and heartwarming redemption arcs for those contestants you wish people saw the same spark you saw or wish people loved as much as you, then this is exactly what you need this summer!

I absolutely loved the main characters and really empathized with them (more than once, I identified with Harper).
The story is told from Harper’s perspective, so you can clearly see how she evolves as the weeks on the show go by.
And it’s not just the main characters, the supporting characters have also won a place in my heart.
The chemistry between Harper and Chance is obvious from a mile away, and while it’s true that you have to wait for a specific challenge for them to realize it, once it happens, you won’t be able to put the book down.
In short, if you’re looking for the perfect book for this summer and love reality shows like Love Island, this is the one for you.

First and foremost, thank you to Ever After PR for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. I was really excited for this one because of the reality show concept due to my obession with Love Island.
While not an exact copy, Perfect on Paper is a reality show where the contestants are matched beforehand due to their personalities and beliefs, tasked with perservering through challenges over the following 10 weeks.
Overall, this was very enjoyable and I enjoyed that Perfect on Paper kept the sense of reality shows being a social experiment, but also was uniquie in that this one is not necessarily the same as any reality dating shows that are currently ongoing. The author also does a great job of pointing out the problematic side of reality TV shows as well, which made it feel much more realistic.
Since this story is told through Harper's perspective you get a great idea of what she is internally going through at the time of the start of the story and her reasoning and subsequent return to Perfect On Paper. However, my one issue is that I had trouble feeling any real connection or chemistry between Chance and Harper until after one of the weekly challenges that "swaps" them away from each other for a week. I'm sure this was partially intentional, as they are both realizing how much they care about each other, however there was no chemistry there for me until after the aforementioned point in the story. After this point where they are "un-swapped" it was FIVE STAR MATERIAL! Their connection comes to light and their chemisty was CLEAR. and the spice was OFF THE CHARTS good!!
All in all, while it was a slow start, I LOVED the concept and watching how CHance and Harper's relationship grow after around 1/3 in was just LOVELY. It is absolutely worth a read!
I will likely be re-reading this when Love Island ends bc I will miss it and this was the closest I got to what I love so much about Love Island.
While not an exact copy, Perfect on Paper is a reality show where the contestants are matched beforehand due to their personalities and beliefs, tasked with perservering through challenges over the following 10 weeks.
Overall, this was very enjoyable and I enjoyed that Perfect on Paper kept the sense of reality shows being a social experiment, but also was uniquie in that this one is not necessarily the same as any reality dating shows that are currently ongoing. The author also does a great job of pointing out the problematic side of reality TV shows as well, which made it feel much more realistic.
Since this story is told through Harper's perspective you get a great idea of what she is internally going through at the time of the start of the story and her reasoning and subsequent return to Perfect On Paper. However, my one issue is that I had trouble feeling any real connection or chemistry between Chance and Harper until after one of the weekly challenges that "swaps" them away from each other for a week. I'm sure this was partially intentional, as they are both realizing how much they care about each other, however there was no chemistry there for me until after the aforementioned point in the story. After this point where they are "un-swapped" it was FIVE STAR MATERIAL! Their connection comes to light and their chemisty was CLEAR. and the spice was OFF THE CHARTS good!!
All in all, while it was a slow start, I LOVED the concept and watching how CHance and Harper's relationship grow after around 1/3 in was just LOVELY. It is absolutely worth a read!
I will likely be re-reading this when Love Island ends bc I will miss it and this was the closest I got to what I love so much about Love Island.

Came Here For Love was such an entertaining read. I absolutely loved the reality TV/dating show setting, the summer vibes, and all the fun challenges and twists throughout the show. The behind-the-scenes feel made it even more immersive, and even though it was told from Harper's POV, it felt like I was experiencing the show from both the perspective of a contestant and a member of the production team.
One of my favourtie parts was that the other contestants felt like actual people rather than filler characters. Everyone had their own personalities and added something to the story, making the reality TV show atmosphere feel believable. I also loved seeing Harper use her second chance on the show to create genuine connections and build friendships that are meaningful.
Harper's journey was another highlight for me. Watching her reclaim her story after being unfairly painted as the villain of her season was incredibly satisfying. Seeing her rebuild her confidence and her life after everything the show took from her, while finally letting people see who she truly is, made her character arc one of my favourites.
I adored Chance. I loved how patient, kind and understanding he was with Harper, especially when it came to the hurt and trauma she was carrying around from her past experience. Their slow burn romance, the tension, and the push and pull between them had me hooked.

This book was something I was looking forward too, the cover, the blurb and the overall of it made me want to read it from the get go. Now, I will be completely honest, I loved the book but there were a few bits that I struggled with. As a UK Arc reader, this gave me almost Big Brother with Love Island vibes, and I loved that - the only thing that annoyed me was how fake the producers were, not Savannah but Dane. Like, I know its down to the view count and everything but I felt like everything was targeted deliberately at our main FMC Harper and her "match" Chance.
There were a few weeks that I admit, I did skim through because there wasn't much going on and I didn't get that true connection/chemistry between Harper and Chance until after the match swap, when they both realised the extent of their feelings. There was very little between them before that, it was a slow start but after that match swap, I really got into the book.
There were a few moments Harper annoyed me with her dilemma and constant switch from "omg, I'm so happy" to "omg, everyone hates me" but once she realises that this new version of Harper is the true her, its get go from there.
I'm not sure if I will read this again, but I may do - I just found it long, with lacking moments were it felt like time jumped without experiencing it and then some chapters a bit too descriptive.
Overall, really enjoyed the book apart from a few little niggles.

This book immerses us in the world of reality TV.
What I particularly appreciate is that the group is already on its second season on the show, so we get to skip on the basics of how it works and go straight into the action. Harper, who was portrayed as a villain during her previous season, is trying to redeem the image that was projected of her. The same image that ruined her life for five years. Because of this, I felt like we didn't see the real Harper during the first few weeks; she comes across as shy and guarded, holding back rather than letting loose and really trying to connect with her match.
It took me a while to fully warm up to this character. Although Harper’s story is interesting, I didn't really start to feel attached to her and Chance until about 40% in. At times, I struggled to tell whether the emotions were genuine. Then again, this is a reality TV game, so perhaps it was intentional to hold back a bit in order to not make the outcome too obvious. I would have liked a bit more depth in the relationship between the two main characters, and perhaps a little more drama among the group of contestants.
I appreciated the author's approach to the subject matter. Each week features activities, a small confessional segment, and a mystery guest who stirs up a bit of chaos. Also, without giving anything away, I liked getting a glimpse into the role of the production team. We all know reality shows are controlled to some extent, and this story accurately reflects what we see on our own screens.

This was such a unique, cute romance book to read! If you’re a realty TV dating show fan, then this book will be right up your alley! Think Bachelorette mixed with Love Island vibes. It was such a cute book to be read as a palate cleanser. It may have taken a smidge to get started, but once it did, I really ate up how you got the feeling of watching this play out on your tv. Right down to the awkwardness of first impressions, first dates, and challenges. And of course, the drama!
This was a little different twist because all the contestants are coming back as an “all star” cast. Harper was made out to be the villain on her season, and has been holed up in her little bubble of the world ever since. But she wanted another chance at redemption and go to show the world that she wasn’t as awful as she got portrayed. Her best suited match was Chance, and for Harper, it was attraction at first sight. I enjoyed this as I was reading it, but after I sat with it a bit after finishing it I realized it actually missed in several areas for me :/
Specifically, I wish we got more of an insight into *why* our FMC was considered a villain on her season. Even though she didn’t watch, she surely could have had a bit more insight herself into what happened, and being in the dark with her made it difficult to understand the severity or lack thereof. I also feel like we could have used a bit more info about how Blevins was fired and how things came to be for the new season, maybe a bit more reality TV behind the scenes vibes and producing. Instead it all felt a bit superficial.
Because the MMC was also labeled a villain on his season with no real insight, I kept waiting for the shoe to drop with him too… and then it never did. I was preemptively giving myself the ick and waiting for a third act breakup that never came (which normally, fuck third act breakups lol). So I think this would have benefitted from a bit more look into how messy the previous seasons *really* were. While we got the newspaper article at the top of the book, I lowkey kept wondering if that was *accurate* or also a spinned story.
As a reality tv connoisseur, I think it touched all the key parts of these shows without really diving under the surface, which I wish it did. I still enjoyed reading it, and I ended up liking the main characters together, but I realized when I finished reading I didn’t really *care*. It was kind of like watching a couple on those shows that play it safe and you’re like yeah okay you’re compatible but whatever LOL

The way these two communicated with one another, even with cameras running, because they’d both been done dirty in the past, was really refreshing.

Now my issue was that, I did not really see the chemistry between the main characters. It mentions how some of the characters start speculating whether if it is all for the cameras or if it is genuine? on that note, How can we know if it is for all the cameras or not if we don’t see much of the main characters and the side characters full conversations when there are too many gaps between the days and it felt like we were only being told that they spent time together in the span of the 10 weeks. Which is why i had a hard time connecting with the chemistry between Chance and Harper. Overall, This has a lot of potential but the romance lacked the depth i needed to see in their relationship.

This book was really fast paced, honestly I couldn’t put it down. I really loved the story, the characters, the writing style, it was really a great read to read in the summer.
Harper made the worst decision of her life five years ago, signing up for a dating show - Perfect on Paper.
She was only 21 years old and she became the number one enemy to the viewers. Their constant harassment forced her to exile, she never figured out why the world turned on her.
Now, recent developments force Harper to make an uncomfortable choice, if she wants to clear her name and save herself from financial straits, she must return to Perfect on Paper as a competitor for the tenth season, the ALL STAR SEASON.
She is then paired with Chance, another vilain seeking a reputation overhaul.
Harper and Chance became really close, but she has another problem, he is close to what she desires in a partner.
Harper came here for love. Hopefully, Chance did too.
I really loved the characters, Harper and Chance were my favourites.
Some moments made me really angry, because the production made some things against Harper again, and I didn’t liked it.
She is so cute, ni really loved her.

I always have so much fun with reality TV themed books and this was not the exception!
From the beginning we get little glimpses about Harper's present life and the cause of it while focusing on her reasons to be on this new season of the show. This is her second chance at love and her chance at redemption.
I enjoyed the descriptive aspects, it really makes you understand the logistics and behind-the-scenes about the inner workings of reality TV. I liked how it shed light on the negative side of this type of shows and I think it captured pretty well the idea of having misconceptions and clouded judgements to what we see in social media.
Harper and Chances chemistry reflects the journey of finding yourself with lots of cameras and microphones and people around you 24/7 while living with an absolute stranger. It's awkward and weird and it takes time growing a connection like this. Harper has been burned, not only in the romantic sense but also on the human side, she received the worst side of people and is cautious but hopeful. I enjoyed her positivity and bravery and how she slowly became stronger at facing other people's opinion. Chance is charming and considerate, he's quiet but very insightful. Since we only get Harper's POV his thoughts started as a mystery but he communicated very well through his actions. Overall this was a very slow burn with fun challenges, angsty situations, quiet chemistry and the kind of intimacy that builds slowly but strong.

Once again, this author drew me right into this read by the gorgeous looking front cover - it's a super cute looking romance and I loved the colouring which gave me all the summer vibes.
I actually read book one from another series by this author back in Feb last year and remembered really enjoying the read, so I was excited to dive into this one and hear Harper's story.
I've read a couple of reality show reads recently - admittedly, a couple of thrillers, but still!

Poor Harper had been on the show previously and through whatever manipulations, she had been cast as the villain, causing a social media frenzy of hate.
With a future ruined, desperate for money, the invite to come back for the shows tenth season special, couldn't be ignored.
I think I stopped watching these shows because I just couldn't handle the drama anymore, so it didn't suprise me that this was the angle we focus on through this book.
But when Harper meets Chase on the show - a fellow pariah - they decide it's time to redeem themselves.
I loved both Harper and Chase and really had high hopes for them to have a happy ending.
The way that we saw their vulnerabilities laid out to their fellow competitors, each other and the wider audience, really made me emotional.
This was such a fun, but heartwarming story and the perfect quick beach read - or like me, weekend garden read.
I actually read book one from another series by this author back in Feb last year and remembered really enjoying the read, so I was excited to dive into this one and hear Harper's story.
I've read a couple of reality show reads recently - admittedly, a couple of thrillers, but still!

I am not a massive fan of reality dating shows (like love island) so initially I wasnt sure if this book would be my vibe or not but I did really enjoy it!
This book follows MFC Harper who had previously been on a dating show, was made out to be the villian through some very clever editing and then had to basically hermit herself for 5 years due to the online harassment. The only way to try and clear her name is to go back on the show and try again to fall in love.
The MMC Chance had a very similar experience on his series of the show and was also made out to be the villian. Surprise surprise, the 2 villians get paired up together and have to share a bed and live as a couple for 10 weeks.
I did really enjoy the plot and was rooting for so many of the characters (theres a few who I was not a fan of at all!!) and I loved reading about Harper and Chance and how their slow-burn romance blossoms. I enjoyed the challenges they had to complete as a couple (think love island challenges) and there were a few twists and surprise characters who just made the plot that little bit more tense.
I finished the book in 2 days, it is such a lovely summer romance, and if you like a reality TV show then you will love it just as much as I did.

I liked the characters. I thought they were super cute together, he liked her right from the start. Though I feel something was missing...I wanted to get to know them better.

As someone who is absolutely obsessed with reality TV (albeit I have bee terrible at keeping up with it), I just knew I had to read Came Here for Love. This book tells the story of Harper Rhodes, someone whose life was ruined by her participation in a dating reality show, especially as the editing of the show made her the wrongful villain in someone else's love story. Five years later and we follow her journey as she goes back to the show that ruined her life. And... I was underwhelmed.
First of all, the book failed to give me any good reasons as to why she chose to go back despite waking up one day and deciding to do so. Not to mention, this book does a pretty bad job of showing you things. I felt as though I was being told them, and I don't appreciate books like that. And this pattern continues throughout the story. We are told time is passing, we are told friendships are blooming, that information is being shared and a love connection is being built but... I did not see much of it. The relationship felt flat and I kept expecting more.
Was I entertained by this story? Yes. Would I recommend it to people? Not really. However, I could definitely see the potential – I just don't think we tapped into it.

I am so glad I’ve been branching out from my usual romantasy and mafia romances, because the contemporary reads I’ve picked up lately have been fantastic — and Came Here for Love is definitely one of them. It’s fun, emotional, and filled with just enough mystery to keep you flipping pages, desperate to understand why certain things happened. Cassandra sets the tone immediately with a news article that seems small at first… but absolutely matters.
At the center of it all is Harper, a former reality TV contestant whose life was completely derailed after being painted as the villain on her season. She’s shunned for reasons she doesn’t fully understand, and this book becomes her second chance — not just at rebuilding her reputation, but at reclaiming her confidence and her voice.
Then there’s Chance, an architect from LA and our other so‑called “villain.” Their first meeting sparks something instantly, and Cassandra gives us that delicious, angsty slow burn that makes every chapter feel intentional. And can we talk about the chapter title names? There’s just something about them that adds an extra layer of charm and anticipation.
The dolphin scene had me smiling like an idiot — pure serotonin. But what really made me fall for Chance was how he shows up for Harper. He supports her without smothering her, gives her space when she needs it, and actually listens. It’s the kind of quiet, steady love that feels real.
Harper is hesitant to open her heart again, and Chance keeps his intentions close to the chest, but watching them navigate that tension is half the magic. Their chemistry is intense, their dynamic is layered, and the emotional payoff is so worth it.

First of all, I love the setting and storyline of this book. It was a fun plot, a setting I personally know so well after watching many reality love tv shows and I thought it was something different I haven’t seen much of before! I also loved how we got to see Harper’s redemption on being the villain in her season, to what she was now. I thought Harper had a lot to unpack, I loved her genuine and very connectable personality, and I liked that she was never over the top, or that she tried to be someone she wasn’t.
I did struggle with this book, while it was fast paced I found Harper and Chance to lack chemistry, and that unfortunately had me feeling disconnected from the overarching theme. I thought the book was very descriptive, which was great but I admittedly did struggle with it as I felt at times there was too much explanation in there but if you are into that, then this book would be perfect for you!
Overall, a cute read. Perfect for a summer trip, a read by the lake or at the beach or for something warm and fuzzy!

This book made me giggle so hard in every chapter 😍I loved it so much especially that it's a reality show themed storyline. I loved Harper's strong yet soft character, what she's been through was awful but I'm so glad she literally rised up and reclaimed herself, love that for her 🥹 And then there's also our green flag male lead, Chance. This man made me swoon all over!! The connection between the two was so good it makes me scream whenever something good happens to them or whenever they're just being themselves. Also glad they were paired together sinc eboth of them had mostly similar experience in the show.
Also glad that some misunderstandings were communicated well given how Harper was anxious to re-join the show. And happy for her because she was able to face her fears and find out the truth of what really happened to her in the past and finally have that closure and move on from what happened.
