When the investigative podcast I work for gets a request to look into a cold case off the Carolina coast, there are a hundred reasons I should say no. But some cases find you for a reason, and this one hits too close to home to refuse.
Hatterwick Island is beautiful and insular and hiding something far deeper than one missing girl. The closer we get to the truth, the more dangerous it becomes—for the investigation, for the people I'm working with, and for me in ways I can't afford to examine too closely.
Jace Hollingsworth is island royalty with twelve years in the Navy and eyes that don't miss much. He's got good instincts, and he's already suspicious of me.
I have good reasons to be careful.
But the longer I stay on this island, the harder it gets to remember why I was so determined to keep my distance—from the case, from these people, and from a man who sees more of me than anyone has in a very long time.
Harper Jackson has rescued her co-workers from a hostage situation, battled ninjas, and stopped international espionage—in her head anyway. Now that she’s no longer busy devising ways to make staff meetings more entertaining, she’s pouring that imagination into tales of breath-stealing, small-town romantic suspense. She believes that peach cobbler with ice cream is the best dessert ever and has a black belt in taekwondo to back it up. She lives in the Deep South with her husband and three canine furbabies.

Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents.
OMG!! This is NOT what I was expecting. Im flabbergasted but in a good way.
We start off with Jace in uni picking up his sister from a mental institution his father put her in after nearly drowning and her bestie being taken.
Jace is home on the island watching his friend being sworn in as the new police chief. It's a long time coming considering Rio was accused of Gwens disappearance. We meet Layla, a photojournalist for a podcast who helps with unsolved cases. The other disappearance case came across her bosses desk and she was assigned to it. She has her serive dog Koa with her and she is trained by an FBI agent for all possible scenarios. But Layla is there to owe it to Gwen.
Everyone in Jaces circle was meeting with the investigator that was coming to help them do a deep dive into Gwens case. Jace clocks that Layla has been in some sore of past trauma on how she reads the room, and people plus the tattoos that hides scars. Layla has everyone go thru the details of that day. Willa finally remembers what happened that day and blames herself. Jace, Layla and Rio follow leads and those leads dont result in much but smtg happens to each person they talk to...confidence or not. While reviewing some of the tapes that were sent to the family after Gwen was taken, Layla makes an error and has to fess up that she was on the boat....she was one of the girls taken. This opens a whole new can of worms. Deep diving into Financials and backgrounds turns up some horrible new information about powerful people and that information costs people their lives. Can Jace and Layla get what they need before they become the next victims?
This book had me hooked from thr 1st chapter and ugly girl crying. Not in a million years did I expect how this played out. Well down!! 👏
Jace and Layla clock each other the minute they run into each other on the island. There's something in the way they carry themselves, the alertness in their eyes that recognizes the other. There's also a physical element, but it remains on a slow burn, that nonetheless burns intensely. They both have secrets, secrets that when are revealed - let's just say mind blowing is an understatement. Jace's protective tendencies, Layla's walls - a combination that sounds impossible on paper, but could be magic if they allow it.
I've been waiting for Jace's story since the very beginning of this series, and damn it did not disappoint in any way, in fact, far exceeded every idea I might have had about who he'd fall for, and how everything would conclude. Layla is this mysterious, watchful and fiercely strong heroine. I can't imagine how she survived everything she went through, but she came out on the other side with a backbone of steel and walls higher than the sky. Then she strolls into Jace's life and he's down so bad, even though they move at a slow burn but smoldering pace. I'm seriously sad this is the conclusion to this series, but Harper saved the absolute best, most epic story, the best couple for last. Their relationship is both physically and emotionally fraught, with the intensity increasing every minute, especially once they're in all that close proximity. The over arching mystery, the why of everything, is finally revealed, and let's just say, the twist about killed me. Talk about a bombshell revelation, but when I look back on it, it makes sense. The whole crew is here this time, all the previous couples, lending support for our final couple, and I felt the peace, the warmth, and love that's finally inhabiting the island, and I know their futures are going to be bright.
ARC provided by Wildfire Marketing Solutions for an honest review.
I’ve read Harper Jackson a few times before, so I already knew I enjoyed her writing.
But romantic suspense?
Ehhhhhh.
It’s not usually the section of the romance buffet where you’ll find me loading up my plate. 😂 Give me mafia men, masked stalkers, hockey players with questionable morals—THEN we can talk.
But every once in a while, one sneaks up on me.
And this one? I was INVESTED.
First things first, this is book SIX and the conclusion of the Wayward Sons series, and I definitely think this is one where having the history from the previous books would make the payoff even better. There’s a larger mystery surrounding Gwen’s disappearance that has been building throughout the series, and this is where everything finally comes crashing together.
At the center of it is Layla, a photojournalist working for an investigative podcast that takes on cold cases.
She arrives on Hatterwick Island to investigate Gwen’s disappearance.
Except…
Layla has secrets.
Like capital-S SECRETS.
From the beginning, there was something about her that had me going:
👀 Ma’am. What exactly are we hiding?
She’s hyperaware of her surroundings. She reads people incredibly well. She has scars she keeps covered. Her service dog, Koa, is trained for situations that immediately make you realize there is WAY more to this woman’s history than she’s telling anyone.
And then Harper starts peeling back those layers.
EXCUSE ME?!
There were several moments where I thought I knew where this story was going and quickly learned that I, in fact, did not know shit.
😂
And then there’s Jace Hollingsworth.
Former Navy. Protective. Observant as hell. Patient.
Basically the absolute WORST man to encounter when you’re desperately trying to hide something.
Because Jace clocks Layla almost immediately.
He knows she’s withholding information. He recognizes behaviors other people overlook. He sees the way she watches rooms and evaluates threats.
But what really made me love him was that he didn’t treat her trauma like a puzzle he was entitled to solve.
He noticed.
He waited.
And he let her decide when she was ready.
Sir???
🥹
Apparently green flags can occasionally do things for me. Who knew?
Their romance is definitely more of a slow simmer because the mystery takes up a significant part of the story, but I actually think that worked here. Layla needed someone who wasn’t going to bulldoze through every boundary she had simply because he wanted answers.
Jace gave her space while simultaneously making it very clear:
You’re not dealing with this alone anymore.
And I ate that shit UP.
But the mystery was what really surprised me.
Because like I said—I’m not a huge romantic suspense girl.
Sometimes I find myself reading them thinking, Okay, but can everyone stop investigating things and kiss already?
😂
Not here.
I genuinely wanted answers.
What happened to Gwen?
Who knew what?
Why are strange things suddenly happening to people connected to the investigation?
Why does it feel like someone REALLY doesn’t want them digging into this?
And most importantly…
WHAT THE HELL IS LAYLA HIDING?!
Every new piece of information opened another door, and behind that door was apparently another door, three skeletons and somebody else’s goddamn secret.
The deeper they dug into Hatterwick Island, the more sinister everything became.
This beautiful little island?
Suspicious.
These powerful families?
Suspicious.
Everybody breathing?
At one point, SUSPICIOUS.
😂
And when Layla’s connection to everything finally starts coming into focus???
I was SAT.
There are some reveals in this book that are absolutely better experienced knowing as little as possible, because Harper did a great job making me question where everything was headed.
And then we have KOA. 🐕😭
Protect Koa at all costs.
That is my son now.
I don’t care.
His relationship with Layla added so much to her character because you see just how deeply he is connected to her sense of safety. And naturally, watching Jace understand and respect that relationship only made me like him more.
The found-family aspect was another huge win. Because this is the series finale, we get all the previous couples and the entire Wayward Sons crew coming together as everything reaches its conclusion.
These people don’t just say they’re family.
When shit hits the fan?
EVERYBODY SHOWS UP.
We love a ride-or-die friend group.
And that ending???
Baby.
Harper said, Oh, you wanted answers? HERE ARE ALL OF THEM AT ONCE.
The final stretch had danger, revelations, betrayal, old wounds being ripped open and pieces finally clicking into place.
Was romantic suspense suddenly dethroning dark romance for me?
Let’s not get carried away. 😭
My morally gray psychopaths are safe.
But did Harper Jackson remind me that sometimes your girl can venture outside her usual habitat and have a damn good time?
Absolutely.
And now I have another problem.
Because finishing book six apparently means I need to go backward and read the other five.
This TBR is never seeing heaven.

I came for the romance and somehow ended up interrogating an entire fictional island from my couch.
Nobody was above suspicion.
Except Koa.
Koa is innocent, perfect, and I will be taking no further questions. 🐕❤️
Okay, I KNOW. I am ridiculously late to this party. 😂 Carry On Wayward Son is the SIXTH and final book in the Wayward Sons series, and somehow I decided the logical place to begin was apparently at the very end.
And you know what? I had absolutely no trouble following the story.
The problem is that now I desperately want to go back and read the five books I missed because this was SPECTACULAR.
Harper Jackson had me completely glued to the pages. This was the kind of romantic suspense where every time I thought I had figured something out, another secret surfaced, another clue changed everything, or another twist sent me in a completely different direction. I kept telling myself I needed to know just ONE more thing, and before I knew it, I couldn't put the book down.
Layla is a photojournalist who works on cold cases and arrives on Hatterwick Island as part of an investigation into the disappearance of a teenager named Gwen. What I didn't realize going in was that Gwen's case has been woven throughout the entire series, with this final book bringing the larger mystery to a head.
Even without reading those previous books, I was completely invested.
And Layla? Ohhhh, Layla has SECRETS. 👀
It becomes obvious pretty quickly that there is much more to her than she's willing to reveal, and I had so many theories running through my head. I knew something was coming. I thought I was prepared.
I was not prepared. 😂
That's all I'm saying because this is absolutely a story where you want to experience those discoveries for yourself.
Then there's Jace Hollingsworth. Former Navy, observant, protective, patient, and yes, incredibly hot. 😂🔥 What I loved most about Jace, though, was how he handled Layla. He knows she's hiding things. He sees through more of her defenses than she's comfortable with, but he never acts as though he's entitled to her secrets simply because he's interested in her.
He waits.
He gives her room to decide when she's ready to let him in, and that patience made me love him even more. Watching the trust develop between them while everything around them becomes increasingly dangerous was one of my favorite parts of the book.
And the tension between these two?
OFF. THE. CHARTS.
Their connection builds alongside the investigation, but neither part of the story overshadows the other. The mystery kept me furiously turning pages while the relationship between Jace and Layla gave me characters I genuinely cared about underneath all the danger.
But we also need to discuss Koa. 🐕❤️
Layla's support dog was easily one of my favorite characters. I loved him so much, and his presence brought another layer of warmth and emotion to Layla's story. Koa deserves his own little five-star review as far as I'm concerned. 😂
I also really enjoyed seeing the entire Wayward Sons group come together. Each previous book follows a different couple, and even though I didn't have the history with these characters that longtime readers will, their friendship and military brotherhood were so easy to become invested in. These are people who will show up for one another when everything goes sideways, and seeing everyone involved as the overarching mystery finally comes together made this feel like a true series finale.
And WHAT a finale.
That ending was explosive. The secrets, twists, danger, tension, and final pieces of the mystery coming together had me on the edge of my seat. I'm being deliberately vague because there is no way I'm ruining any of those reveals for someone else.
Carry On Wayward Son gave me everything I want from romantic suspense. A gripping mystery, secrets everywhere, twists I didn't see coming, an isolated island setting, incredible tension, a patient and protective MMC, a complicated heroine, characters worth caring about, and a conclusion that actually delivered.
I walked into the Wayward Sons series six books late and walked out wanting to go straight back to book one.
Harper Jackson, consider me officially hooked. Auto-buy author status achieved. 🔎🌊❤️
Thank you to Harper Jackson and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the gifted advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved, loved, loved this beautiful tale of romance and healing woven into an intense suspense tale. The story packs quite an emotional punch as the plot unfolds and the connection and love deepens between Jace and Layla while the tension and danger slowly ratchets up. I was completely hooked from the word go. I read it from start to finish without sparing a thought for anything beyond those pages. Jace grew up on Hatterwick Island from money and privilege. He only is close with his sister Willa (Won’t Back Down). He works in military intelligence in the Navy and is on the Island working the drug/human trafficking case. Layla is an investigative reporter and photographer who works for the Unaccounted podcast which looks into cold cases. She comes to Hatterwick Island to help in Gwen Busby’s cold case at the request of Gwen’s cousin, Madden (On the Other Side). There was immediate physical attraction between Layla and Jace as soon as they see each other, all before they start working together. Despite their reluctance to get involved for so many reasons, the emotional connection between them was nevertheless built moment by moment and interaction by interaction until their hearts were as intertwined as their purpose. Separate from the fantastic romance part of the story, the suspense and mystery was just as captivating. I was on the edge of my seat wondering whether we’d finally learn what happened to Gwen and trying to figure out the clues. I loved this series and now that I know the answer to the mystery, I’ll need a re-read to see what I missed on the first read through.
While this book can be read as a standalone, there is an overarching storyline through the entire series. To get the most from the story, do yourself a favor and read each of these fantastic books in order.
Okay, I KNOW… I am ridiculously late to this party! This is book six AND the conclusion to the series, and somehow I jumped in at the very end without reading the first five. And honestly... I had absolutely no trouble following the story or getting invested in what was happening. That said…after reading this book, I really wish I had started at book one because if the rest of this series is anything like this one, I have seriously been missing out!
This book was SPECTACULAR. Like, keep-me-on-the-edge-of-my-seat, turning-pages-as-fast-as-I-can, I need to know what the hell is happening spectacular. There are secrets everywhere, and every time I thought I had something figured out, Harper Jackson had another twist waiting for me.
The overarching mystery surrounding Gwen, the missing teenager, has been woven throughout the series, and I loved seeing everything come together in this final book. Each book follows a different couple, and getting to see all of them featured here while watching the bigger story finally come to a head was SO GOOD.
Then we have Layla, a photojournalist who investigates cold cases, and her phenomenal support dog, Koa. Seriously, Koa deserves his own shout-out because I absolutely loved him! And Layla…oh, Layla has SECRETS. I knew there was more to her story, but holy shit, I was not prepared for the secret that came out.
And then there’s Jace. This man is just plain HOT, but what I loved most about him was his patience with Layla. He knows she is hiding things, but instead of pushing her before she’s ready, he gives her the space to open up on her own. Watching their relationship develop and seeing the growth between them was one of my favorite parts of the story. The tension between these two... OFF. THE. CHARTS.
And that ending?! EXPLOSIVE. So, so good! I love a good romantic suspense, and this one absolutely delivered everything I want from the genre,....mystery, secrets, twists, tension, romance, and characters I genuinely cared about.
I cannot recommend this series enough, and now I have five books to go back and read because if Carry On Wayward Son is any indication of what I missed…I have some serious catching up to do! Harper Jackson, you officially have me hooked and have been added as an auto buy author! This story was phenomenal!
This book had everything—romance, danger, suspense, mystery, and a ton of emotion. The good, the bad, the sad, the painful, and the happy. It put me through all of it.
I had been waiting for Jace's book. He was already such an enigma, and of course, who would he fall for but Layla, another enigma.
I not only got to revisit the characters from all of the previous books, but I got to watch Jace completely embrace Layla for who she was. I loved the way he supported her and always seemed to know just what she needed, and I loved that she recognized what Jace needed in return. There was something comforting about watching two people who could be so difficult to read understand each other so well.
I spent the majority of this book on the edge of my seat, and then it delivered a twist so shocking that it left me sitting there with my mouth hanging open. I absolutely did not see it coming.
There is no way anyone should read this as their first book in the series. I don't think it would be possible to get the full impact of what happens here without having taken the journey with these characters through the previous five books. So much of what made this book hit as hard as it did came from already knowing them, their relationships, and everything that led them to this point.
This was everything I never expected Jace's book to be, and yet, it was exactly what it needed to be. It gave me suspense, emotion, romance, surprises, and a payoff that made the entire journey through the series worth it. Now I cannot wait for the audiobook to come out so I can experience it all over again.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This is the sixth and final book in the Wayward Sons series. It presents Jace and Layla’s story. It’s a tale of instant attraction, secrets, and offers a surprise reveal as the story progresses. I loved seeing the whole ensemble of characters assembled and involved in solving the mystery that unfolds in the pages of this novel. If you enjoy mystery/thrillers with well-delineated and tense interactions, a brotherhood of military trained friends who would do anything for each other, and spicy adult romance, this book will likely be something you will like.
I wish there were more books in this series, but I’m happy with how everything tied up at the end. The author left just enough small cracks in the story to allow her to return to this series in the future, if she’s so motivated. It’d be nice, but not necessary. The ending as offered is wonderful and satisfying as it is.
I very much enjoyed this book and the entire series. While you might figure out some of the secrets in this story before they’re revealed, I think it will still keep you guessing at most of them up until the end. I highly recommend both this book and the entire series. Starting at the beginning of the series will help you understand all the character interactions and the background of what drives them and the story arc.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity in sharing this book with me, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
The conclusion to the Wayward Sons series is packed with suspense, tension, and romance. Throughout the series, an overarching mystery has surrounded the disappearance of a young girl—a disappearance that has affected the entire island of Hatterwick and her close-knit group of friends. As we’ve seen in the previous books, there is much more to this case than anyone originally realized.
Layla arrives on Hatterwick Island as an advance researcher for a podcast that solves cold-case missing-person cases, but she couldn’t possibly be prepared for what awaits her. Jace is back on the island, reuniting with his fellow wayward sons and their women, while his work as a Navy intelligence officer brings him home to uncover an organization that has been trafficking illegally behind the scenes of his hometown for far too long.
Harper Jackson brings this series to a close with a bang. I held my breath, sighed, laughed out loud, and even teared up alongside these wonderful characters. Every character is well-developed, making them feel real. The suspense was spine-tingling, with twists that kept me riveted and turning the pages.
This final story tied up so many questions and loose ends, but what resonated most with me was the deep, interwoven friendship between the wayward sons and their women. It was the perfect way to bring this series to a close.
This series is an expertly plotted, sweeping small town saga with heroes and villains who inhabit a small island where a community of found brothers and their family members grew up as a tight knit unit. Each book in the series features a captivating, emotionally satisfying romance that revolves around a particular couple while a greater story arc explores a tragedy that haunts them all. Amid painful recollections, shocking secrets, and revelatory clues to illegal activity on the island a Navy intelligence officer and a true crime podcaster join forces to uncover the mystery of native islander Gwen Busby who disappeared from a beach party when she was 15. 13 years have passed but Gwen has never been forgotten and the group is determined to find justice for her It’s a mesmerizing conclusion to a superbly plotted and skillfully revealed romantic suspense series unlike anything I’ve read before and I loved every pulse pounding moment and the shocking revelations that ensue. I actually took notes throughout each book as the clues were revealed but I wasn’t prepared for the shocking revelation that ties everything together. Lest it be lost in the shuffle the romance between Jace, whose fractured relationship with his father is a huge part of the story, and Layla, whose past hints at a tragedy that she’s still running from, is beautifully explored. 5 amazing stars!!

Whirlwind and action packed with resolution to a mystery that has affected the Island for years. What happened to Gwen? A group of friends never gives up on trying to solve the mystery of what happened to Gwen. She vanished at a party when she was 15. Her cousin was with her when she was abducted and nearly killed herself by drowning when she was thrown into the ocean. This book answers alot of the questions when the mystery unfolds with an investigation by Jace a naval intelligence officer who is trying to solve some unanswered questions. The former chief of police murdered. Rios is now the chief of police even-though he was used as the scapegoat for what happened to Gwen. This book is a very interesting read and a great love story. Ford and his true love ,Bree, finally get married. Jase has found his true love but as it turns out he has known her for years. Layla come to the island because of the story her pod cast has decided to help find out what happened to a 15 year old girl who went missing. The girl was a local named Gwen. This storyline has a-lot of twist and turns in it. The ending was perfect.
Layla is an investigator for a podcast who specializes in cold cases and has come to Hatterwick Island to look into the disappearance of Gwen from years earlier. She is a woman with secrets and uncovering the truth is feeling very personal. When she meets Jace she is drawn to him in a way she never expected however she isn’t certain she can trust him with her truths even if they are working together.
Jace was raised on Hatterwick Island, and he was in the Navy for over a decade. His sister is connected to Gwen so when Layla arrives and wants to speak with anyone who knows anything about the disappearance that includes him. Meeting her he knows that there is a lot he isn’t telling her, but he is willing to be patient until she knows she can trust him with her secrets.
The romance between them draws you in but it is the intrigue part of the story that keeps you on edge. The characters of Layla and Jace are well developed and relatable and their relationships with the other people involved heartfelt as they take us on an adventure that is both heartfelt and fulfilling.
This is one of ‘those’ books … a book you think you’ll read for 30 mins before settling into your Saturday morning chores. However, your chores are forgotten, you ignore those alarm reminders on your phone telling you to go somewhere or doing something and, aside from getting another coffee and the odd call of nature - you can’t stop reading until you have turned the last page. Every word, each character’s story, the links and the threads that wove the series of books together, all melded into a great finish to this series of 6 books. I am going to wait a week, and then I am going to do a re-read of all 6 books one after the other, that is how good this series was for me.
I have all of Harper Jackson/Kait Nolan’s books - I always read them as soon as I can - moving them to the top of my TBR list. The Harper Jackson (Kait Nolan) books are for me like getting a JD Robb, Daniel Silva, David Baldacci, Quintin Jardine book and reading it before anything else.
When I started the Wayward Sons series, I thought that we would never find out the full truth about what happened to Gwen. The last book, Carry on Wayward Sons, definitely had me holding my breath for how I wanted it to end. Jace had always had ties to Hatterwick Island. His sister was best friends with Gwen and was with her when she was taken and almost drowned. Lala, who did podcasts about “lost” people seemed to have a secret that she didn’t want to share but she wanted to be sure that the case was solved no matter how it ended. She knew how everyone on the Island had made it their job to find the truth. The love story that evolved by Jace and Lala working together won my heart. The twists and turns of people involved keeps you on your toes. I loved the suspense that Kait (Harper) builds the stories around and never want to put any of her books down until I finish them. This was truly a great series with both romance and suspense which makes you look for the next exciting or dangerous thing that will happen. Keep them coming, Kait (Harper).
The expectations for this book were high. We’ve been building up on the mystery of what happened to Gwen Busby through the whole series. The book did not disappoint. I’m not putting any spoilers in this review, but it’s so hard not to! The book built on the suspense of the previous and finally we do get the answers we were waiting for.
I loved Jace and Layla. Jace had the alpha characteristics, but they were tempered with a lot of acceptance and awareness of those around him. I really loved him for Layla. Layla was unbelievably strong with all that she had experienced. I love the brotherly bond between these friends and seeing where they each ended up.
The story has all of the emotions and really did wrap up the series with a very satisfying ending. I will miss this set of characters as they began to feel like family.
And definitely read the bonus epilogue!!!! I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review. Looking forward to whatever comes next from this author!
I’ve been waiting so long for this book! I followed along diligently, but I still couldn’t figure out what happened to Gwen and who did it? I’m a horrible detective. Luckily, I’m not the author. She curated this from the beginning in book 1, leaving scraps for us to put together (even though I lost my red yarn to put the clues together.) A wonderful mystery, in a small-town setting, with an amazing group of friends who continued to push for answers to the mystery from that night on the beach. Layla was the perfect match for Jace, and yes, he falls first! I loved the series and the conclusion wrapped up wonderfully! And true to the author’s recent writings the girls all have amazing dogs that take care of them, love Koa in this book! A perfect stand-alone novel (clues reviewed for the new character and readers) but best started from the beginning of the series for a full immersion into Hatterwick Island. A must read, HEA guaranteed!
This is the fifth and final book in this wonderful series, and I have to admit I had very mixed feelings about picking it up. I was so excited to finally uncover the secrets that Hatterwick Island had been hiding all these years, but at the same time, I was really sad to be saying goodbye to such a brilliant series, its incredible cast of characters, and the fascinating island community that has kept me turning the pages.
This book has everything I’ve come to love about the series; action, excitement, romance, plenty of twists and turns, and a story that kept me completely hooked. I genuinely struggled to put it down!
An absolutely fabulous conclusion to a series that truly epitomises friendship, courage and resilience. Harper Jackson has created a wonderful world and a group of characters that I’m going to miss enormously. I really hope this talented author has plenty more exciting books coming our way, because I’ll certainly be at the front of the queue!
The final book in an incredible romantic suspense series. We get the answers to what happened to Gwen Busby. I had my suspicions and belief of what happened, I was pretty close to being correct. Harper Jackson gives us incredible depth to the characters. Story that from book 1 to this last 1 is truly incredible. I don't want to reveal what happened to Gwen to future readers of this series but you will be in awe of the story. We get true suspense throughout this series. This book gives us Jace Hollingsworth as our hero and Layla Murphy is our heroine. Layla does investigative research into missing persons cases for a podcast. She's on the island to do research on Gwen's case. Jace is done with his military career and has returned home, he helps the investigation. Together along with a beautiful support dog, take us on a journey of unbelievable, jaw dropping revelations, loss, forgiveness, truth, romance, and more. So sit back and enjoy the ride of a lifetime in this series.
This is the last book in the series, and it was so exciting! I hope you have been reading the series as it will make more sense. The close knit of friends on the island ten years later are still investigating and trying to figure out what happened to Gwen when she was taken ten years ago. Madden contacted a group that looked into cold cases and Layla was sent to help. Layla was so controlled and had some awesome defensive skills. It was crazy how she would have these flashbacks that I couldn’t understand, but she was determined to help the close knit of friends try to find out what happened to Gwen. The friends knew there was something going on about trafficking as well as drugs and money laundering. I was so scared when any of them got to close as someone would go missing or have a bad accident. I loved how Jace and Layla started becoming close. I was surprised how it all ended with me on the edge of my seat! I strongly encourage you to read the book.
Wow, just wow. After loving Rios and Madden’s book, I somehow loved this one even more.
The mystery had me hooked from the beginning. The way everything unfolded had me SHOOK. I had so many theories, knew something was coming, thought I was prepared… I was absolutely not.
Layla and Jace were amazing from start to finish. I loved their development and how patient Jace was with Layla, giving her time to open up. Layla was brave, intelligent, and protective, while Jace was observant, patient, protective, and so swoon-worthy.
And the plot?? CRAZYYY. I loved it so much. Having the whole crew back to support our final couple made this such a satisfying ending, and I loved the warmth and love finally settling over the island. Harper Jackson has officially made my auto-read author list!
Thank you Wildfire Marketing Solutions and Harper Jackson for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The long wait is finally over, and it was so worth it! The last book of the Wayward Sons series was the best of an already fantastic series. This book is about Jace, brother of Willa, Navy man, just released from an undercover assignment. Layla is a photojournalist who specializes in unsolved crimes. She’s badass, dealing with her own trauma and embraced instantly by Jace and the rest of the crew. The twist and turns were many, pieces of the puzzle of what happened to Gwen Busby are assembled and my inner Nancy Drew was here for it all. I will not reveal anything beyond that. If you haven’t heard of the series before…go start with book on end savor the journey. For fans who’ve been here since the beginning, grab a beverage, shut off your phone and enjoy the journey. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks to Harper Jackson and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the ARC of Carry On My Wayward Son. When I say this book took me for one hell of a ride I mean it took me for one hell of a ride. Jace was everything I needed in a MMC. He was strong and steady, able to support Layla in every way she needed but also have her back when she wasn't aware she needed him. Layla was a bad ass little fighter who never gave up. She was so strong and you didn't even realize how strong until the end of the book. The genuine connection every character had made the book feel like a hug from your favorite person. The spice spiced just right. The plot twist about did me in and made me scream WHAT!? so loud I am sure it was heard 3 states away. Over all 5 stars and the whole series needs to be added to everyone's TBR.
In this conclusion to the Wayward Sons series, Layla, an investigative reporter, travels to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to look into the mystery of the missing girls. The group of friends researching the cases want answers and justice. From the beginning, readers know that Layla is placing herself in jeopardy by engaging with the case because there's a dangerous ring of traffickers using Hatterwick Island as an outpost. There's also a parallel mystery about Layla's connection to the case and how she knows about what happened in the past. She proceeds knowing that military intelligence officer and hometown son Jace has her back. As they follow the money trail, uncover new witnesses, spar together and share secrets about their pasts, romance builds.
Once again, set in a cute little town on an island on the east coast - the characters are wonderful, I'd love to be in their tribe!!!
They are always, no matter how dangerous, there for each other - they have been brought together by a brutal crime, with devastating consequences, over the years - finally with some help brought in from the west coast (a former visitor to their little piece of paradise) - things are moving along, and tragic and terrifying events are coming to light. Memories are coming back, and our 'sleuths' are chipping away at the secrets and coverups by the various players involved in the crimes.
The ending was so satisfying, and the glimpse into the future (thank you author) of our beloved cast of the book, was a great ending to this series.
This is the sixth and final book in the Wayward Sons series, where the last of the brothers in arms works to solve the mystery of the childhood disappearance of Gemma, and other girls thought to be trafficked, with the help of researcher Layla. All the characters from the previous books are heavily involved and they get more depth as the books progress and the mysteries unravel.
There is plenty of gripping drama and mystery to keep you turning the pages and the growing relationship between Jace and Layla. This is a great series and an epic finale, I don’t want to say more as I don’t want to spoil anything!! I highly recommend this series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This is the 6th and final book in this impressive series, and this is Jace and Layla’s story. Jace is ex-Navy, an enigma, and island royalty, who is working with a close knit of friends to uncover what happened to Gwen, while Layla arrives in town to work on a cold case which hits too close to home. This is a well written easy to read, slow burn, action packed story, with friendships, emotions, tension, trauma, secrets, mystery, danger, suspense, intrigue, trust issues, forced proximity, touch her and die vibes, determination, healing, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, twisted, and unpredictable, small-town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Jace and Layla’s story. It is so great. So many great parts of the story. And so much suspense. The group on the island that grew up together are looking for Gwen, the young girl who disappeared when they were in high school. They just want an ending to this story. And when the sheriff was found to be dishonest, they felt that didn’t help find the missing girl. There are so many things that are coming to light now. The new sheriff is going to find answers with his friends which includes Jace and then Layla comes in to help. And things get more confused and complicated. And people are more in danger now as they begin to find trails to follow. I enjoyed yet another story about this group. And watching Jace and Layla and her dog, Koa. Loved every minute.
A spectacular ending to Harper Jackson's Wayward Sons series!!!
Island royalty, Jace Hollingsworth, is on an assignment from Naval Intelligence that coincides with Layla Murphy's assignment for a missing person podcast. It has been thirty years since that night at the beach bonfire....the night that took Gwen Busby and left Willa Sutter with holes in memories. Now Gwen's cousin and friends have asked UNACCOUNTED to investigate the cold case.
The twists and turns, the enormous cast of characters, the surprising answers....all are trademark Harper Jackson suspense. I'm looking forward to many more romantic suspense stories for this amazing author!
WOW, what a finale!!! It's so rare for a book to really surprise you with a mystery reveal, but this one is so exceptionally well done that I guarantee you'll have a wide-eyed gasp & jaw-dropping "Whaaat?!?" moment. I adored Layla for using her horrific past to make herself stronger. Sidekick Koa proved to be a (cuddle)worthy ally. And who better than solid-as-a-rock, quietly dangerous Jace to become her safe harbour in this storm? I absolutely loved this couple! For the fact that this series is Kait Nolan's first foray into darker romantic suspense, she totally nailed it. Fingers & toes crossed she loved writing it as much as I loved reading it and there will be more to come!
Jace is the last Wayward Son to come home and I am so excited to finally find out what happened to Gwen. Jace is military intelligence and is working the drug suggling ring that has been going on on the island. Layla is a cold case investigator who was called in to help figure out what happened to Gwen. If you haven't read the previous books, you should. While not necessary for this one they give a lot of background to what has been going on in town and how the case has had new things come to light. Jace and Layla work together, and get together, to start putting the new pieces together. Not going to say more other than you need to read this one and the whole series!
