Reigning Fae

From Storms and Fire : Reigning Fae

Rate this book
No one believes you’re in danger when your clumsy nature helps cover up a deadly scheme.

Shy, awkward and clumsy to a disastrous level, Emberly has tried to ignore the things said about her. But when those very personality traits put her in danger, her parents send her away to another kingdom.

Now, Emberly has to deal with the King of Storms, who very well might kill her in a fit of temper if she spills one more drink on him. That is, if the person trying to kill her doesn’t take her out first. Unfortunately, no one believes the scrapes and bruises aren’t just from her tripping over her own feet.

King Caspian sees no end to the frustration of being foisted with the responsibility of hosting the uncoordinated princess. His irritation is only amplified by constantly having to rescue the princess from herself.

Despite all the reasons he finds Emberly aggravating, his body has a mind of its own when it comes to her. Why can’t he stop thinking about her? And how many times is this clumsy princess going to get hurt and blame it on someone else to avoid embarrassment?

Will Emberly be able to convince Caspian someone is trying to kill her before it’s too late, or will she die leaving everyone thinking it was a tragic accident?

From Storms and Fire by Kaya May completely pulled me in.

Emberly was honestly such an easy character to love. She is shy, awkward, ridiculously clumsy, and constantly finding herself in situations where everyone assumes she is just being Emberly. Meanwhile, she knows something much more dangerous is happening, and watching everyone dismiss her had me so frustrated for her. I just wanted someone to BELIEVE THIS GIRL.

And then there is Caspian.

The grumpy King of Storms who is absolutely convinced this clumsy princess is going to be the death of him. I loved watching his irritation slowly turn into something completely different. Every rescue, every interaction, and every moment where he tried to convince himself she was nothing but a frustrating responsibility made me love them together even more.

Their chemistry was so good, but what really got me was the way their relationship developed. Emberly needed someone who would finally see beyond what everyone else assumed about her, and watching Caspian start to realize there was more happening than simple accidents had me hooked.

The danger and mystery added just enough tension to keep me questioning who was behind everything and when Caspian would finally put the pieces together. I was rooting for Emberly the entire time.

This was such a fun mix of fantasy, romance, danger, humor, tension, and that delicious grumpy chemistry I can never get enough of.

Kaya May gave me a clumsy princess in danger and a temperamental king who cannot seem to stay away from her, and apparently that is exactly the kind of chaos I needed.

Absolutely 5 stars. I loved these two.

What to expect:
Grumpy x Wallflower ◌ Slow burn ◌ Opposites attract ◌ Forced proximity ◌ Magic/Fae ◌ Clumsy FMC ◌ Reluctant attraction ◌

Kaya has done it again; I had a great time reading this one. It was so easy to read and lose yourself in the story and fall in love with these characters.

We follow our FMC Emberly, she is sent off to another Kingdom by her parents because she is in danger. Now Emberly has to deal with the King of Storms - our MMC Caspian, who is known for his short temper.

I enjoyed Emberly, she is shy, awkward and soo clumsy. But she is caring and wants to help. But she finds it difficult dealing with people. So, when a series of 'accidents' keep happening to her she tries to share her fears with Caspian, he writes them off as her clumsiness.

Caspian was a great MMC, he seems so grumpy and abrasive. But he is just overwhelmed with all he needs to do to keep his Kingdom running smoothly. And a clumsy Princess is the last thing he needs added to his plate especially when he is constantly having to save her. But his body has a mind of its own and even though she frustrates him, he can't stop thinking about her.

The relationship that grows between these two was so lovely to watch unfold. The tension between these two.... they both felt the connection but were too scared to act on it.
Watching Caspian struggle with his feelings added so much more tension. And when they finally decided they are all in, it was perfect. Loved the spicy scenes. 🥵🔥

The plot was great, you get suspense, betrayal, danger, threats, magic, some great banter, an overly protective mmc who you don't want to upset and an FMC who is so compassionate and truly wants to see the best in everyone. I found myself giggling at some of the thing said between the MC's, banter was 10/10.

The character growth for both the MC's was fantastic. Was so lovely to see Emberly really come into herself and truly speak her mind. And Caspian finally letting people in.

Loved being back in this world, Kaya has such a beautiful writing style. It flows so easily you just lose yourself in the book alongside these characters. The just 'one more chapter' got me again with this book, I was sat and captivated by this story.

Enjoyed the relationship that blossomed between Emberly and Chloe. Giving all the best bestie vibes you could ask for. Gave all those wonderful found family feelings by the end of the book.

Loved the ending of the book. Seeing Emberly's plans coming together. Knowing they are building something so special together. Loved that!

Definitely recommend this one.

Thank you so much Kaya for allowing me to arc read your book 🩷

🔥 ARC Review 🌪️

"If King Caspian kills me, do you think he'll take my books away from me before he zaps me with lightning? I'd hate for them to burn."

I sooo enjoyed this book! I liked From Thorns and Ice *so* much and I was so interested to see what would come next since we're in the same world, but not in a connected series. This did not disappoint!

If I think about it as a connected world, I can see the basic magic structure has come through and there were correlations between the books. They were both very similar, but also very different at the same time.

As a standalone, there was as much action as the first book, and this is a Romance, so there was love and backstabbing and flirting and a delicious slow burn. But, the way the story was set up and how everything came about was so different. I can see these as coming from the same author, but with a completely different way of coming at the story. Does that even make sense?!?! 🤣

I'm really enjoying that these books are in the same world, so they have a similar feeling and I don't have to learn a new magic system, but I get a new story with new characters. I am soooo interested to see if there ends up being overlap later. Not a series intermingling per se, but an overlap of characters or kingdoms - will there be shared enemies and the kingdoms join together, will there be new friendships between characters we already know?

So, yeah, I enjoyed this book! I can't wait to see what comes next! The banter, the characters, and the plots keep me pulled into the book and I always find myself picking up Kaya's books!

It was quite spicy for a bit there. 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I...could anticipate some things which both made me feel smart but also I kind of wanted to be in the dark a bit more. But, it's not a mystery and I know why I knew. So, I get it and I'm not disappointed. But, if I was completely shocked, that's be cool. 😅

If you like relatable FMCs, whodunits not in an official mystery but you can't help yourself from sleuthing, or reluctant lovers, you may like this book.

A second book set in the same world but with two new royal main characters, and the love that builds between amidst a murder plot against the clumsy FMC!

You follow two new characters set in the same world, this time from the fire and air kingdoms. The FMC Emberly, is the princess of the fire kingdom and in order to keep her safe from the attacks seeming to happen across most kingdoms, her parents send her to be protected by the king of the air kingdom, the MMC King Caspian. When she arrives, she’s unkempt from her two week journey and the king only sees her as a klutzy annoyance he will have to babysit. With her nose always in a book, she ends up having some accidents that make the king think even more of her being a hazard, but when some of these accidents cause near death experiences, she starts to think someone in his kingdom wants her dead, especially after she’s threatened for turning down the advances of one of his lords. The more time the king spends with her, the closer he becomes and they both start to see each other in a different light, but can they figure out who is against her before it’s too late?

I always love a dual POV, and seeing them both resist their feelings for one another at first until they finally give in, but with this I also liked seeing the dichotomy between the FMC clearly seeing the dangers to her life at first when the MMC dismissed them as more accidents. Over time it’s fun to see the MMC slowly going from reluctantly tolerating and protecting her because he has to, to becoming obsessed with her and doing anything to keep her safe. I love the friendships and little found family the FMC builds in this kingdom and how she uses her bookishness to help the local children in his kingdom to learn. Of course between the banter and tension, plus a murder plot afoot, I couldn’t put this book down and really enjoyed all the reveals at the end and the villains motivations. Overall this was a fun read diving back into the same world and I can’t wait to see where the author takes this series next! My rating 4.5/5!

Thanks to the author for the gifted copy, all opinions given are my own!

From Storms and Fire is the second book I’ve read by Kaya May, and after loving From Thorns and Ice, I honestly expected to love this one too and Kaya May definitely did not disappoint!

I really love the way Kaya May writes. Her books have such an easy flow to them, and before I know it, I’m completely invested and telling myself, “Just one more chapter.” This was another seriously addictive read for me.

One of my favourite things about this book was the humour. There were moments that genuinely made me laugh, and I loved how it balanced the more intense parts of the story.

And then we have Emberley and Caspian. I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. Emberley’s shyness and clumsiness were honestly so cute, especially as she was still finding herself and growing into her role as a princess. I loved seeing her become more confident throughout the book and everything she learns from Caspian and his empire.

Caspian, the King of Storms, is definitely strong, powerful and commanding, but what I loved most was that he wasn’t simply there to teach Emberley. He learns from her too. Their relationship felt like a journey for both of them, and that made their connection so much more enjoyable to read.

The chemistry, tension and emotional push-and-pull between Emberley and Caspian had me hooked. Their dynamic was definitely one of my favourite parts of the book.

I also really enjoyed Emberley’s relationships with Chloe and Keson. Those friendships and connections gave us more insight into Emberley and made her character development even more enjoyable to follow.

Kaya May has created another story that has fantasy, humour, romance, tension and spice, while still keeping the characters at the heart of the story. I also love that her books have the smut we want but are still easy to read and follow, whether you’re newer to romantasy or you’ve been reading the genre for years.

Thank you, Kaya May, for the ARC! I had such a fun time reading From Storms and Fire, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next in the Reigning Fae Series.

Kaya May has officially become an author I’ll be keeping an eye on!

This one definitely had an adult fairytale feel to it, which I really enjoyed. There was something about the overall atmosphere and story that gave me that fairytale feeling while still feeling a little more mature.

I did have a few things that kept me from fully connecting with the story. In the beginning, the female character's clumsiness was a pretty noticeable part of her personality, but as the story progressed, that seemed to fade away. I found myself wondering about that change because it felt a little abrupt.

I also felt like some parts of the story were a little easier to predict than I would have liked. I never really felt lost or confused about what was happening, but I think I was hoping for a few more surprises along the way.

The ending was probably the biggest example of that for me because I had a pretty good idea where things were headed.

That said, I did enjoy the fairytale-like quality of the story, and I can definitely see this being a book that works really well for readers who enjoy that kind of fantasy. It just didn't quite have the impact on me that I was hoping for, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. ❤️

I read this book as an ARC (thanks Kaya) - as I have all the others before.
And it did not disappoint.

As usual, Kaya does a great job ensuring her books can be read as a standalone. This one's highlights were how unique the MMC and FMC were. Sure he was a grump with a terrifying nickname, but he was practically just a perfectionistic workaholic who was tired of everyones BS. (FMC included).

That being said, Caspian made me want to slap him a few times for how he reacted to Emberly's concerns but he finally came around and even let us (the reader) take a glimbse in his most private journal.

The FMC is a sheltered Princess, who also needed a good wake-up call, but she finally grows. I enjoy that she is clumsy and has an allergy but is also very kind and compassionate.

Overall, I enjoyed this book much like the previous ones. Caspian is my favourite king for sure (I mean there is a reason there is no unrest in his kingdom). Though I wish had gotten to know more about his parents...
Anyway, I am rambling. Read the book yourself. :D

I really enjoyed Caspian and Emberly’s romance. Caspian tries desperately to convince himself that Emberly is off-limits, but his growing feelings and protective instincts tell a completely different story. Their attraction created some wonderful tension, and the spice earned three peppers from me.
I also enjoyed the mystery and danger surrounding Emberly. Someone pushed her down the stairs, but because she is known for being clumsy, convincing anyone that she was attacked proves difficult. The possibility of a killer hiding inside the palace added suspense and kept me wondering who could be trusted.
Emberly’s shyness, nervous oversharing, and fear of embarrassing herself made her relatable. I loved seeing how deeply she began to affect Caspian, even when he refused to admit it.
This was an entertaining fantasy romance filled with danger, mystery, protective behavior, and plenty of heated chemistry.
Thank you to Kaya May for providing me with an ARC!

I devoured this book in less than 24 hours, it was that good! This had everything I needed in a book, it had action, it was funny, it was a slow burn and it was SPICY. AND I love when a book series is interconnected standalones and that’s what this is!

In this book we follow Emberly, no one believes she in danger when her clumsy nature helps cover up a deadly scheme. Will she be able to convince King Caspian that someone is trying to kill her, or will it be too late? Will everyone be left believing it was a tragic accident?

“She may be beautiful but that is all she seems to have going for her”

This book was genuinely so funny, I really loved Emberly and Caspian together. They were completely opposites which just made the banter in there relationship even better 🤣 Caspian is definitely just so over her but can’t seem to make himself stop helping her.
I’ve already ordered the first book and I can’t wait to read it!

ARC Read
Emberly is clumsy, like really clumsy (which girl same), so when her parents, the king & queen, hear word about rebels, they send her to stay with the King of Storms for her safety. The more you read about her, the more you fall in love with her and I found her so relatable! Caspian is cold and stoic as he believes a king must be and he is not impressed with ‘babysitting a princess’. The best pairings are ones that truly bring out the best in each other.
It’s a lot of the miscommunication trope but it was enjoyable seeing the main characters really come out of their shell. Alder is a POS (a hill I will happily die on), and the 180 in the MMC did throw me off a bit. The journal!!!! IYKYK. It even had a mind-blowing twist I did not see coming though I wish it was fleshed out a bit more. I really enjoyed reading this book.

When I read about this book at the end of the first one, I was so excited!
A clumsy, bookworm princess is sent away to another kingdom to be protected by its king… and this king is so grumpy! And yes, it was worth the wait!
And oh, Caspian is such a great character! I can say that he feels very realistic, especially in the way he thinks and acts.
Emmy is so sweet and has a really kind heart! She is very clever but has terrible luck, and she is also incredibly strong!
Overall, this was a really entertaining book with a very good plot, a good pace, and a slow burn that worked really well.
I can’t wait to read more from this author!

✨ARC Review✨

I absolutely adored Emberly and Caspian! 🥹❤️ Emberly’s awkward, clumsy nature made me laugh, but seeing the vulnerability underneath it completely stole my heart. And Caspian…ugh, beautiful Caspian…watching his frustration slowly turn into protectiveness and something so much deeper had me melting.

The danger, tension, banter, and unexpected romance kept me completely hooked. I found myself rooting for these two so hard, and by the end, I was emotionally invested in their story. This was such a fun, heartfelt read with just the right amount of suspense and romance 💕

Caspian and Emberly first meet when she is sent to stay with him because her parents thought she would be safer there with him. I liked how even tho she was a “shy” person she still raised her concerns and thoughts. He annoyed me a bit when he would just overlook everything that was happening to her but he redeemed himself in the end. There’s a plot twist that I kind of figured it out before it was revealed 🙊. It’s a slow burn, spicy, drama, suspense, and some magic. I felt like we needed to see more of the magic that they had. Overall it was a fun read so 4 stars!

Thanks to the author kaya may for the book. This one was as good as the first in this series. This is the kind of book you pick up when the weather is bad outside. We follow in this one Emberly who is clumsy and has a heart of gold. And the king of storms who leads his Kingdom with strict rules and is kind of Moody. When Emberly was sent away by her parents to the Kingdom of the king of storms for protection, all hell breaks loose. If you like your romance, humor and a good story you should read this one.

I love the first book in this series and this second one is just as good.
I like Emberly. She’s done everything in her power to please people, even if it is to her detriment. I love how she changes in the story and finds her inner strength. Caspian is cold, not unfeeling, just numb. Their interactions are funny, sexy and they have great banter, which is highly entertaining.
This is a great story, which is well-written, absorbing and very enjoyable to read.

I loved this book! It is always a nice change when the MC isn't perfect, is clumsy, and struggles to realize how great they are. We all have that in us, and makes a book that much more enjoyable. The twists to determine is it clumsiness, is it more of an attempt on her life by someone else, and the in-between kept me hooked also. Truly enjoyed this book!!

This slow burn opposites attract romantasy quickly worked its magic on me. I found myself rooting for Emberly I related to her awkwardness. I wanted to scream at everyone including Caspian to believe hers then scream at him for other reasons until he finally admitted and accepted his feelings for her. Overall this had plenty of magic, action and just enough spice. 4.25 stars overall.

Ahh!! Absolutely loved this! Emberly is our clumsy princess that was forced to go to another kingdom because of her parents fear of the war coming in. King Caspian, who agreed to help shelter her, was adorable trying to understand his feelings for her. I loved how Emberly showed him how to be kind to others and for Caspian to show her how to stand up for herself. Opposites attract!!! Can’t wait to see who will fall in love in the next standalone!! :)

This was such a fun and addictive romantasy. I absolutely loved Caspian and Emberly’s story and how polar opposites they were. Caspian was definitely someone who took a little time to get used to. He was intimidating, grumpy, extremely serious and has that powerful king energy that makes it very clear why everyone around him respects him.He was really frustrating at times, especially with how he handles Emberly’s concerns about her attacks. His perfectionist, workaholic personality made him such an interesting mmc and those little glimpses of his softer side made me swoon. Emberly was such a clumsy sweetheart. I loved watching her grow from a sheltered princess to a confident person. And them together? It was so much fun and I loved their dynamic. There were plenty of moments where I just wanted them to talk already but it was so good watching them slowly understand each other. Kaya may has once again given me a couple I genuinely enjoyed rooting for.
