Marked Down to Murder: A Penelope Sinclair Cozy Murder Mystery
Every bargain has a price…this one is deadly.
When a beloved antique dealer, Eleanor, is found dead among her carefully curated belongings, it's clear the cost of this bargain came at a high price.
The police call it an accident. A fall. An unfortunate end.
Penelope knows better.
As whispers spread and suspicion turns toward a rival shop owner, a distant husband eager to claim the space, and a manager pressuring vendors behind the scenes, Penelope begins to understand the Eleanor wasn't robbed. She was being replaced.
As Penelope asks questions, she uncovers evidence of swapped antiques, convincing replicas, and a scheme built on deception and greed. With gossip spreading fast and her sharp-nosed Chihuahua, Teo, alert to every wrong note, she follows a trail that keeps pointing in the wrong direction.
Until getting too close to the truth puts her directly in the path of someone who has already killed once to keep it hidden.

This is a cute prequel in the Penelope series
With her teacup chihuahua Teo, she is starting her life over. Not knowing she will be involved more than she wants. She is passing time helping her friend Eleanor when she realizes that some of the items in Eleanor’s booth at the antique mall are being switched. Low quality items are on the shelves and the original items missing.
When Penelope finds Eleanor dead in the storage room things really get puzzling.
I received a copy of this novella from the author in epub format. This did not affect my review and I look forward to reading more in the series

Marked Down to Murder is yet another captivating addition to Tessa Aura’s mystery series, A Penelope Sinclair Cozy Murder Mystery. The narrative begins somewhat slowly, yet it remains intriguing and engaging, enveloped in an aura of mystery.
Upon commencing my reading of Marked Down to Murder, I found myself captivated by Penelope and her unique perspective that allows her to perceive things that others might overlook.
The descriptions were articulated so vividly that I could visualize everything I was reading in my mind, as if I were an observer on the sidelines, witnessing the events unfold.
I truly love getting lost in the Penelope Sinclair Cozy Murder Mystery stories. I can’t get enough of them. I always eagerly wait for the next book. No matter what happens with Penelope and Teo, I know I’ll love it. Hmm, that probably didn’t come out quite the way I meant. What I meant is that I’m not worried about specific plot points. It’s not that I don’t care about Penelope and Teo. I absolutely adore them.
In this installment, Penelope is assisting her friend Eleanor, an antique dealer who operates a shop within the antique mall. The first thing that Penelope and Teo observe is that Eleanor’s stock is being substituted with replicas. As Penelope endeavors to uncover the truth, she enters the storage room and discovers poor Eleanor lying lifeless on the floor, gazing into the void as only the deceased can.
What transpired with Eleanor? The authorities suspect it was an accident, but Penelope and Teo are aware of the truth. Numerous suspicious individuals or storage vendors within the mall have motives to take advantage of Eleanor. But which one is accountable for Eleanor’s tragic fate?
As always, I wholeheartedly recommend this delightful series to all enthusiasts of murder mysteries! Be sure to acquire a copy of Marked Down to Murder today!

Marked Down to Murder by Tessa Aura Book Review
“Inside the mall smelled like lemon cleaner, old paper, and the faint ghost of cinnamon potpourri from someone's misguided attempt to modernise in 1997.” The descriptions give us a sense of what the mall looks like: outdated but functional. It also awakens the senses with the lemon cleaner and cinnamon. Using the senses gives us more of a sense like we are there. My nose crinkled when reading lemon cleaner. Very clever writing.
A teacup that feels wrong.
The tension just before the body is discovered where Teo is afraid. I really felt for him when he “planted himself against my ankle like a living doorstop and shook his head, ears flattened so tight they nearly disappeared." “and suddenly, the antique mall felt like the quietest place in the world.” It's heartbreaking the way it's written, the emotions are so raw. Credit to Tessa's writing.
Trying to get them to sell the shop.
Lies, Rivalry and law breaking.
“Nothing meaningful ever hurried.” Truer words have never been spoken.
“Normal life brushing against something sharp.” It's hard to think the world goes on around us when dismay happens. Death is captured in a very true to form way here.
A whoodunnit that keeps you guessing. A twist no one saw coming.
It's emotional, raw, full of complicated relationships, there is a bit of humor at the end. It's a brilliant ending.
The character development for Penelope is evident. It's so nice to see her fight for justice and learn that she can stand tall with Teo: her Chihuahua by her side. What an amazing emotional support animal he is.
The ending. Secrets are revealed. It's quite scary. A lock in situation. Will the truth stay hidden? People can be unpredictable. The ending is just the beginning of more mysteries to come.

So this is a new prequel to the Penelope Sinclair Cozy Mystery Series. I've been reading it already for a while now, but I loved getting to see where Penelope and Teo really got their start. What surprised me this time was Pen's reaction to seeing a dead body. Usually, she's fairly collected, but, as this one was her first, you get to see her raw, visceral reaction. Between her and Teo's reaction (he also got upset and didn't want to leave the body), I actually teared up a little for them! I wished I could hug the both of them. The mystery was intriguing as always, of course (I'd expect nothing less), but this was a different view of the both of them that was intriguing, if a little heart breaking, to see.
Tessa Aura does a fantastic job as always. I definitely recommend picking up this book if you're even remotely into cozy mysteries.
Also, we finally get to meet Richard, Pen's ex-husband, who's only mentioned briefly in the series. And, well, I hope we don't have to meet him much again. Richard is awful. All my homies hate Richard. I'm glad Pen got away from him.

I am addicted to the Penelope Sinclair Mystery series, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover Marked Down to Murder by Tessa Aura. This short prequel provides the backstory of Penelope and her Chihuahua, Teo, before they move to Maine—and reveals what prompted the move in the first place.
Penelope works for an antique dealer named Eleanor, who begins to notice something strange about her inventory. Something seems off. The fine china looks strikingly similar to the originals, but it no longer feels or weighs the same. Then Eleanor is found dead in a storage room. Surely, this can’t be a coincidence.
Out of respect and affection for Eleanor, along with her own internal desire to uncover the truth, Penelope is compelled to investigate.
I really enjoyed getting this glimpse into Penelope’s past, including her relationship with her ex-husband, how she ultimately ended up in Maine, and how she discovered her knack for recognizing patterns and unraveling mysteries.
I enjoyed both the mystery itself and the additional insight into Penelope’s character and backstory. A fun little prequel and a definite thumbs-up for me!

A small shop in a large antique mall run by Eleanore who treasures her items. Each has a tale and a story and handled with T.L.C. Penny and Teo are helping her and Penny notices something odd with a ceramic tea cup. The landlord and his daughter stop by to check and drop a hint that maybe another business would serve this spot better. Teo senses something off with the pair and growls. Penny takes the light weight mug and hides it. Is someone changing out the real items for fake ones? She notices a box out of order and is interrupted in opening it. She returns to the supply room to find the box open, in the middle of the isle and dear Eleanor dead next to it. Why would anyone want to harm and old lady and why are items on the shelves not what they originally were? What was in the box that was worth her life? Who was replacing valuable antiques with fakes, and why? This is actually a sad sensless murder all for a buck and a spot in a mall.

The Penelope Sinclair Cozy Mystery Series is fantastic and this prequel gives us a glimpse as to how Penelope and her clue finding, intuitive dog, Teo got started in sleuthing. In this book, Penelope is helping her friend, Eleanor, an antique dealer with her shop within the antique mall. But things don't seem right in the shop, there looks like someone has been switching around the stock and replacing them with fakes. When Penelope tries to figure out what's happening, she goes into the back room and finds her friend dead. Shocked at what she sees for the first time, and with the police calling it an accident, she needs to find the truth. So Penelope and Teo set out to find a murderer and the truth about what was happening at the shop. This was a wonderful prequel that answers some questions about their beginning! Not only do I recommend this book, but I highly recommend the entire series! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

"MARKED DOWN TO MURDER" is a prequel to Tessa Aura's "Penelope Sinclair Cozy Murder Mystery" series. It's an easy read story that gives us a peek into Penelope's life in Vermont before she moved to Bath, Maine.
Penelope's got a sharp eye for detail, noticing the tiniest things that are out of place. She's working at an antique mall with her friend Eleanor when she notices a teacup that just doesn't feel right compared to the others, and her senses start tingling. Later, she spots another object that's off; it feels wrong, and Teo agrees. Is someone swapping items with fakes? Grab this cozy mystery to find out what's going on.
I enjoyed learning what helped send Penelope and Teo to Bath in this story and think other cozy mystery and dog lovers will, too.

When Penelope Sinclair’s friend, Eleanor is found dead in her storage room at the local antiques mall, the police treat the incident as an unfortunate accident.
But, Penelope, who is an antiques appraiser has noticed that recently some of Eleanor's items appear to have been replaced with replicas, leading her to believe that Eleanor’s death was suspicious.
Suspects for the murder are plentiful, including Penelope's soon-to-be ex-husband, and she begins her own investigation, with the help of her Teacup Chihuahua, Teo.
This is a great book and I couldn't put it down! Tessa Aura has become one of my favorite cozy authors and I’ve read all of her books.
Her characters are believable and Teo makes me smile every time.
I was honored to be on the Advanced Reader team for this book and I happily leave this voluntary review.

While helping to man a small antique shop with her friend, Penelope begins to notice some of the merchandise is "different." She rearranges the products a bit, but still has an odd feeling that something isn't right when she comes into work the next day. She and her little dog, Teo, begin to keep watch around the mall and do a bit of sleuthing. Police need evidence, not just hunches.
This was an interesting read and the clues as to "whodunit" were able to be followed, but the "why" was a little more complex. I feel a little more depth could have been given to the end of the story to give it more explanation and finality.
I was provided with an ARC of the book; this review is given voluntarily.

What a great introduction to Penelope and Teo!
As the prequel to the Penelope Sinclair Cozy Murder Mystery Series, this is a great story. There is a murder, and not just any murder, but the murder of one of Penelope’s friends and unfortunately, Penelope finds the body. This story showed how Penelope can see patterns and feel when things aren’t right. It was a great escape to be there with Penelope as she solved the murder of her friend and not only that but managed to get closure for the ending of her marriage. A great story I cannot recommend highly enough, along with the rest of the series!

Marked Down to Murder: A Penelope Sinclair Cozy Murder Mystery, my twenty-fourth enjoyable read from author Tessa Aura. There are so many cozy mysteries out there and so many authors writing them, but they're popular, I enjoy them & read more than my share of them. In every sense of the word this is a cozy mystery, with offstage violence, amateur sleuths, and a dog, but with an overiding theme of sadness, making it different than most! “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll read more from this author as they're published. Next up Legend Has It...Murder A Penelope Sinclair Cozy Murder Mystery. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018.

This is a second book that I’ve read from this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it and liked the diverse characters. Teo might be small but don’t mess with the people he cares about because he becomes feisty. Penelope’s friend was found dead in a storage room and she was determined to figure out who was responsible even though they first said it was an accident. There were many suspicious suspects but only one guilty or could there be more? This was a great cozy mystery to show you how Penelope first started out and why she gets involved in solving crimes with her furry sidekick.

I absolutely loved this!
This is a prequel to the series, where we get to see Penelope and Teo's beginnings.
An elderly friend of Penelope's is unalived and there are a few suspects - the antique mall manager, his niece, the friend's shop neighbor, and get this -- Penelope's husband (now ex)!
Now with Penelope's instinct and Teo's knack for finding clues and reading people, they're going to have to figure out who did this and why (and we get to hang out with Grandma for a while).
This was a fun and quick read that's a welcome installment to this collection.
Definitely recommend!.

I really enjoyed getting to know Penelope's life before she moved to Bath. It showed us why she opened Curious Finds and why she likes the teacups. It gives us more insight to who she is and what drives her. We get to see the relationship she had with her husband and see how much happier she is now that she has moved to Bath and is doing what she enjoys. I look forward to more adventures with Penelope and Teo.

Marked Down to Murder is a Superb story and series about Penelope Sinclair and her very clever sleuthing dog Teo. Penelope was helping Eleanor in her shop when she noticed a teacup was wrong. Later she discovered Eleanor dead in storeroom. Deputy Morales starts the investigation. Penelope also starts to look into the mystery. There are many pieces of this puzzle. But can Penelope and Two find them and uncover the truth?
I enjoyed reading this story very much and I highly recommend that you read.

This was another excellent written story that by Tessa Aura. I love how she seems to keep everyone interested in the storyline right from the start. Penelope Sinclair and her dog Teo are ready to look for who ever is involved with the murder of Eleanor. This book also brings you up to date at what was happening in Penelope’s life. Penelope has to come to term with her life since she divorce her husband and comes to realize that it was for the best. I will recommend this author for this series as well as her other series.

This was my first Tessa Aura book and I loved it. Teo is so cute and I love the way he senses things and then lets Penelope know, in his way, that something is up with something or someone. Penelope is a great character who also can sense things. They both sense that there is something wrong with some of the China cups and saucers and want to find out what happened to them. I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I look forward to reading more books from Tessa Aura

When antique dealer, Eleanor, is found dead, the police think it's natural causes. Penelope has been working with Eleanor and she knows that it wasn't natural and believes she was murdered. There are many suspects in the antiques mall including her husband. She think the murder has to do with the antiques that had been replaced with replicas in Eleanors booth.
A great prequel to the series.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I liked reading about Penelope, Grandma Joyce & Teo the chihuahua. It’s a really nice touch the author put Grandma Joyce’s Stew recipe at the end of this quick read. I look forward to making it & already got another book in the series. I received this nice cozy mystery from Book Sprout & am leaving an honest review.

Penelope & her Teacup dog help Eleanor with her antique shop. She starts to notice that things are missing and replaced with cheaper reproductions. Then Eleanor is murdered in the store room and the sleuthing begins. Nice short story but the plot is weak, so are the characters. It's hard to care about any of it. I'd give it 2.5 stars it I could.
