Rush is an emotional, addictive, and beautifully intense second chance romance filled with first love, heartbreak, secrets, hockey, racing, and a hero who refuses to give up on the woman he has loved for most of his life. As the third book in Ashton Brooks’ Saints vs Pirates series, Sam and Jameson’s story delivers plenty of emotion, passion, and heart while showing just how complicated love can become when fear and miscommunication take control.

Sam Campbell has always had her future carefully planned. She knows exactly what she wants, and every decision she makes is supposed to take her one step closer to playing professional women’s hockey. Jameson has always been part of that future. He is her childhood best friend, her boyfriend, her first love, and the person she believes will be standing beside her as they chase their dreams together.

Everything changes when Sam discovers she is pregnant at one of the most important moments of their lives. Overwhelmed by fear and convinced that she is protecting both of their futures, she makes a decision that changes everything between them. Watching Sam struggle with the consequences of that choice was heartbreaking. She carries so much guilt, fear, and uncertainty, and although I did not always agree with the way she handled things, I understood how young and frightened she was.

Jameson Kane completely stole my heart. Known as Candy Kane on the ice, he may have a beautiful face, but he is also a fierce enforcer who will do absolutely anything for the people he loves. Sam has been his entire world since they were children, and there has never been any doubt in his mind that they belong together.

Jameson is intense, possessive, determined, and completely obsessed with Sam, but beneath all of that is someone who genuinely wants her to achieve every dream she has ever had. I loved discovering the ways he had quietly supported her over the years. He never wanted Sam to choose between him and hockey, and he was constantly working behind the scenes to make sure she had every opportunity to succeed.

Even after Sam breaks his heart and their lives move in different directions, Jameson never truly lets her go. His commitment to showing up every weekend and refusing to disappear from her life was one of my favourite parts of the story. He may be hurt and angry, but his love for Sam remains unwavering.

The racing element added another exciting layer to Jameson’s character. Hockey is where he built his reputation, but racing is where he finds control and earns the money he needs to create the future he wants. There is something incredibly compelling about the contrast between the disciplined hockey player and the adrenaline-loving racer, especially when loving Sam is the one thing capable of making him lose control completely.

Sam and Jameson’s relationship is filled with history, longing, pain, and undeniable chemistry. Their connection never disappears, even when they are separated by secrets and years of hurt. Every interaction between them carries the weight of everything they once had and everything they still desperately want.

There were moments when I wanted Sam to simply tell Jameson the truth, but her fear of losing his love controlled so many of her decisions. The misunderstandings and lack of communication were frustrating at times, but they also created some incredibly emotional scenes. Jameson’s reaction as the truth slowly unfolds was powerful, and I loved watching him prove that his love was stronger than the mistakes they had both made.

Rush is a heartfelt story about young love, difficult choices, forgiveness, and fighting for the future you were always meant to have. Jameson’s relentless devotion, Sam’s determination to achieve her dreams, and the emotional journey back to one another made this a compelling addition to the Saints vs Pirates series.

If you love childhood friends to lovers, second chances, secret babies, possessive hockey players, street racing, emotional reunions, and heroes who never stop fighting for their family, Sam and Jameson’s story is definitely worth reading.

🏒 BOOK REVIEW: RUSH by Ashton Brooks
Saints vs Pirates, #3
🗓️ Release Date: August 14th

The teasers Ashton Brooks has been posting—and edging us with—about what this book delivers were more than enough to get Rush on my radar. But actually reading it? It made me even more hyped for the future of this entire series!

If your vibe is...
🏒 FMC Hockey Player
🏒 MMC Hockey Player
🏎️ Street Racing
🚩 Unhinged & Obsessed MMC
🧸 Surprise Pregnancy
❤️‍🔥 Friends to Lovers
👉 ...ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR IMMEDIATELY!

The Plot 📖
Since they were nine years old, Jameson Kane has had a hold over the new girl in town, Sam, both on and off the ice. Ashton sets the pace early on showing just how protective and fiercely loyal Jameson was destined to be over Sam, and I was absolutely here for every second of it.

After years of being best friends, they finally take the leap—and that’s when the lines blur in their own unique way regarding what the future holds for them. What we discover later in Rush is that "the list" wasn't just a set of boxes to check off; it was filled with secrets that unravel the truth. No distance or time could ever keep Jameson away from Sam and their daughter, Dylan. He was always right there, leaving little life notes that eventually come full circle.

Are his motives entirely pristine? Not exactly... but us romance readers aren’t here for fictional men who play strictly by the rules anyway! Ashton Brooks delivers a German Shepherd-energy hero like no other. And the cherry on top? The epilogues. Hands down, I loved seeing everything come full circle on the page.

Character Development 📈
The growth in this book shines so bright through the pages. It left me desperate for more, but Ashton gives us the perfect balance of banter, yearning, and angst. The truth behind the street racing makes so much sense as the story unfolds, and the danger behind it lights up the screen on your Kindle.

Jameson: Obsessed, unhinged, protective, attentive, and holds sky-high standards.
Sam: Fierce, forgiving, witty, smart, and utterly fearless.

The Spice 🔥🌶️
Jameson effing Kane is one dirty-mouthed, protective, morally grey man, and I LOVED every single moment Ashton wrote for him in Rush. Nothing could stop this man from getting skin-to-skin with Sam. If there were any more spice scenes packed into these pages, it would’ve crossed straight into full-blown 🌽! Haha! Ashton knows exactly how to write spice with a total chokehold.

The Secrets & Final Thoughts 🤫
The checklist turned out to be so much more than expected. While I do wish we got to see a few more items checked off with extra detail, it was still just enough for the storyline to develop beautifully. Ashton absolutely kicked ass with this third installment! The inner circle made everything come together for the ultimate full-circle ending.

While he was a walking red flag, his heart was in the right place.

Sam and Jameson met when they were nine and played hockey together. Growing up, he protected her and she continued to be great. They started dating in high school, only to break up at graduation due to a teen pregnancy. Now at twenty-one, they are co-parenting and Jameson just moved closer to be around their daughter more and win Sam back. What Sam doesn't know is that Jameson has been working behind the scenes on this for years. Some truths come out when they start trying again while others don't. So what happens when they all come out?

Jameson and Sam get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.

Some of Jameson's tactics were a little high handed and may make him a walking red flag. If I had a friend going through that, I would recommend she run the other way. That being said, it seems like Sam's friends also went through this and were used to this type of behavior. I do wonder if Sam and Jameson ever told her mother all that Jameson did over the years for her and her daughter, or if the relationship had soured too much and they just tried to build from there. It would be interesting to know if the guys compared notes on how to make their women's lives easier, or if they all just came by it naturally.

Pining for your best friend since you were nine years old isn’t easy, but Jameson Kane makes it look effortless.
Jameson meets the fierce, strong, beautiful Sam on the ice and is enthralled by her to the point of obsession.
Their friendship escalates, because their deep connection and explosive attraction can’t be contained anymore.
Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, will stand between Jameson and Sam and prevent her from having everything she wants. He is protective, obsessive, morally grey and has no problem into pushing everything and everyone.
Rush is a hockey romance with a stalkerish hero, years of pining, personal growth, spice that will make you blush and utter dedication.
Ashton Brooks brings us over the top characters, heroes willing to fight for their families and soulmates, the childhood friends to lovers trope and sweet spicy second chances.
Thank your for the ARC.

Sam and Jameson have it all in one romance

This story comes with love, babies and second chances.
Heartbreaking miscommunications and decisions made alone, but just with the best in mind.
But whether liking Sam’s decisions she just wanted the best for all.
Only didn’t she consider Jameson’s deep and true feelings. All this boy did for her and their baby girl, even when she broke his heart.
I have no words.
They slowly work through their past to get their future on the right track.
Jameson was so supportive to Sam’s career and wishes. And Sam wanted everything done the best way possible.
I loved how emotional their story was. And how possessive and jealous both could be.
It played out in the best way of course and the ending was just perfection.
Deserved and beautiful.

4.5 ⭐️/ 2 🌶️

This was a sweet romance with a very slightly morally grey MMC (compared to my other reads 😅). This might be my fav one in the series! 🙌🏼

I loved Jameson from the prologue! His devotion to Sam made me love him with every new page in this book. His love, devotion, selfishness, and everything he did for his love made me wish mmc like this existed in real life! 😅

Sam was a good fmc but I would have loved her more if she didnt let her insecurities in the way, but that made her more relatbale.

And Dylan! She was such a cute addition. 💕

I hope we get Isla's book next! I am so intrigued by her character.

Gosh the lengths this man went to! Jameson did so much without Sam even realizing it. Putting the past behind them and moving forward, but what’s a little stalking and ensuring her future especially when their kid is involved. He is over the top and don’t even joke about touching her, it won’t end well. Loved this!!! And I can’t wait for more!!!

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Where do I even begin... this is one of my all time favorite books. This is a second chance at a slow burn, but oh boy, was it worth it. Jameson is the book boyfriend of all book boyfriends. Its going to be hard to beat him. I don't want to give too much away but I'll just say that yes, he secretly does some questionable things, but it's all in the name of love. What women wouldn't want a man like Jameson.

What a great story with childhood sweethearts single parenting hockey and drag racing romance. This story had it all longing obsessed mmc and a couple crazy about each other.
