Books, Iced Coffee & a Side of Dragons was a fun read! I had a great time watching Luci and Aster's relationship grow. Their story was laid out differently than I'm used to in graphic novels, more slice of life chapters instead of a fluid story from chapter to chapter, but it really worked here. I love the vibes, the representation, and accessibility of a YA queer romance story. The artwork is also gorgeous - I love the color pallet! The dragons may have been one of my favorite parts of the story; not only did they create the best whimsical atmosphere, they helped move the plot along in the most enjoyable chaotic way. Also, the way this is set in Jersey? I'm truly obsessed.

This is a sweet sapphic summertime romance takes place in an alternate reality where dragons are as commonplace as cats or dogs? Sign me up! We are in Sea Witch Cove, New Jersey and it is pretty much the same except now there are dragons. We meet Lucinda who is the owner of a cute bookstore, Little Lighthouse Books, that is in the towns abandoned lighthouse. Then there is Aster, the trans woman who runs the neighboring coffee shop, The Seafoam. This graphic novel has books, coffee and dragons, what else do you need?

This was such a cute little fun summery read! I jumped straight into this as soon as I got it. Not to mention I adore books with maps (this one was colorful too) and playlists. I thought this was perfect as a graphic novel, made the story even more majestic. The artwork was so beautiful, bright and I loved how the characters were illustrated.

I picked up this graphic novel because of the representation and it did not disappoint. We met so many different queer side characters who were celebrated throughout the book. Along with it touching on so many topics such as sexuality, PCOS, and family.

The nerdy dialogue and banter between Luci and Aster TOO CUTE. These two were ADORABLE I feel material over them. The dragons! Ahhhh I LOVED the dragons and how they contributed to the story. Little Blueberry the snow dragon, Chili the fire dragon who heats the coffee, and the one Luci and Aster found together the yellow wind dragon, Dandelion.

Whenever I see cute graphic novels on netgalley I grab them and this is a new favorite. I was hoping it would give Tea Dragon society vibes and it does but modern. It has PCOS representation and a trans love interest as well as other representation. It was so cute and I wish it was longer because I just wanted to hang out in this world with the characters for longer. There were so many adorable scenes and I plan on buying this one when it releases. If you love cute graphic novels with diversity and adorable dragons, pick this one up.

How could I resist this book. Dragons? Books? Queer romance? HECK YES! And look at that cover!

All in all... I just loved this one. Yes, I would love to have a more woven/one flow story, but there were so many elements that did work for me and I had so much fun reading this one. It is cute, adorable, sweet, fun, and more! I would recommend it.

MY NEW FAVORITE BOOK! This graphic novel is the most beautiful hug in book form. The colors and illustrations are STUNNING. All of the magical, cozy vibes that can bring warmth even on your coldest days. The characters were unbelievably perfect. Watching them fall in love was an honor. Truly. And I was so grateful to see each character grow. Oh, and dragons?! Absolute perfection. I need moreeeee immediately. Perfect Graphic Novel for any cozy magical sapphic lover. I can't wait to read this again and again all year long.

I immediately preordered this book once I finished the eARC. There are so many moments in these pages that made my heart feel so big and full. So many moments where I was frantically tapping my partner going “AWE!!!!” Or “Look! It’s us!”. This is the perfect queer cozy read to share with loved ones and enjoy with a nice iced lavender oat milk latte (iykyk). Absolute cozy queer perfection.

This was adorable! The art was spectacular and as a companion to the narrative, really had me understanding the place and the people!
I’ve followed the author since the Golden Age of Tumblr, so I found myself recognizing parts of the story where she showcases bits and pieces of herself and her wife and their fur-family, which was really sweet.
Reading this while at the Jersey Shore just made it that much sweeter!
I can’t wait for this to be available to everyone and they can experience this little slice of queer joy and Jersey supremacy!

This was adorable. You had me at dragons. I absolutely adored this.

Following book shop owner Luci and coffee shop owner Aster and their dragon companions, this is a series of small tales that tells of their love story and the different struggles they have in their day to day lives.

This touches on so many different topics including women’s health, sexuality and accepting familial differences as you get older.

The artwork was absolutely stunning. I did find some of the pop culture references to be a bit too cheesy and try hard but overall the story itself was touching and easy to relate to.

This had all of the perfect ingredients to be a favourite book of mine yet it still exceeded my expectations!

Books, Iced Coffee and a Side of Dragons was sweet, magical and heartwarming. I had the most fun reading this enchanting graphic novel and I can’t wait to buy a physical copy.

I truly loved everything about this story! Our two main characters, Luci and Aster, were just wonderful. I absolutely adored the bond between the two of them. I always love a slow-burn love story and these two shared a beautiful, slow, friends to lovers romance. Although, it doesn’t take too long for them to go on that first date so luckily, we get to share so many gorgeous moments between the two of them. I love the way that they see each other and show up for each other, in the big moments and the small throughout the story. Their love is tender, genuine and deep. I believe Lovelace has perfectly captured the concept of soulmates within these pages. That moment when two people realise they were made for each other always makes my heart so full.

Can we also take a moment to appreciate Aster’s wardrobe? I want everything she wears for myself please! While we’re at it, I’ll take August’s tees too because they were equally outstanding.

The side characters added so much to this graphic novel. I loved August, the ever-supportive and optimistic friend. I also adored George and the little insight we get into his own journey.

I love how many queer identities were celebrated within the pages of this graphic novel. It made my heart so full to see so much queer joy.

The dragons add so much character and heart to this story. I loved searching for them on every page to see what kinds of mischief they were getting up to or what mood they were in. I love that they each had such distinct personalities. On multiple occasions, they made me laugh out loud. I reread multiple scenes involving them just to experience the pure joy they inspired a second time around.

I want to visit Little Lighthouse Books and The Seafoam every single day! I wish they could just open in my town (WITH the dragons please). I love that the two independent businesses felt so real and welcoming. As a book and iced coffee lover, I had the cosiest time within this book. I loved the bookish references made throughout and would LOVE to try a coffee made by Aster in real life.

As beautiful as the story and characters are, the art style is what helps to tie it all together into a dream of a novel. Raquel Través’ illustrations are truly stunning. The colours were beautiful and there was such incredible detail in every frame. I loved looking for extra writing and details in the background of each page and am sure I’ll spot even more when I reread a physical copy.

Amanda’s storytelling and characterisation were truly captivating. This story was so beautiful and enchanting that I just want to climb inside its pages. Coupled with Raquel’s gorgeous art style, Books, Iced Coffee and Dragons has firmly become a favourite graphic novel of mine. I had the biggest smile on my face whilst reading and I only hope that the two work together again in future. In the mean time, I will be telling everyone I know to read this graphic novel.

Books, Iced Coffee & a Side of Dragons written by Amanda Lovelace and illustrated by Raquel Travé is a Sapphic cozy contemporary fantasy.

This is definitely contemporary but in an alternative version of our world where nothing has changed except that dragons exist.I think how individual readers categorize this is going to heavily depend on what exactly they are looking for in a cozy fantasy or romantasy. The two leads, Lucy and Aster, have a crush on each other in the very beginning and their relationship does technically develop on page, but the story skips pretty much all of the romance beats and instead sticks to the sweet quiet moments of their relationship. The plot itself is essentially a series of interconnected vignettes rather than an overarching arc connected by a theme or idea. As such, I view this as a Queer cozy fantasy that is looking for comfort readers, but not so much a romance.

The art definitely helps contribute to the cozy atmosphere. The color palette and soft lines make everything softer and less tense. The dragons themselves are absolutely adorable and are drawn in a way that reminds me of plushies (would love a Blueberry one) while the humans come in all shapes and sizes and skin tones.

The comic overall is affirming of Queer identities and people living with PCOS. Aster is a trans woman who is currently struggling with her mother, who's new boyfriend is MAGA, Lucy lives with PCOS and is struggling with doctors not understanding her condition, and there is older Aspec representation. None of the main characters say anything negative about anyone’s identity and all of this is approached in a way that feels designed to hug Queer and chronically ill readers.

I would recommend this to readers looking for a cozy fantasy that is in a vignette style and cozy fans who want a graphic novel with a focus on a Sapphic relationship

This graphic novel is the definition of cosy! Told in a series of short comics, we follow Luci and Aster through the journey of their relationship - a super sweet couple that made me smile at every page!
Both characters have their own struggles as business owners of two cosy stores (coffee shop & bookstore!) in their small town, but they are there to support each other - along with their friends and adorable dragons!

I’ve been a fan of Amanda Lovelace’s poetry for years, and was so excited when I saw they were coming out with their first graphic novel! I think their storytelling is perfect for this format - and I hope they delve into more graphic novels in the future!
If you’re a fan of the Tea Dragon series by K. O’Neill - this is the perfect graphic novel to pick up next!

Books, Iced Coffee and a Side of Dragons is such a cozy, warm and fun romantasy in the form of a graphic novel. The colourful graphics really complemented the coziness and playfulness of the stories in this book.

The two main ladies, Luci and Aster, are living the dream life: they run a bookshop and coffee stand respectively, fall in love with each other, and have three (!) dragons as their pets. Hence the title 😄 This graphic novel consists of short stories, that show us their daily life and adventures.

It’s very clear that the author, Amanda Lovelace, put a lot of thought and love in this graphic novel; she has thought about every detail and has even included a map and playlist to listen to while reading.

While I loved the short stories, as they were very easy to follow and go through, I would have also loved it if there was more of an overarching storyline or main story. But that is my only, if you can call it that, complaint.

Anythings legal in New Jersey. I still cannot believe I'm supposed to think this world takes place there with a MAGA adjacent moms boyfriend and a lighthouse bookstore that the town doesn't like but the coffee place right next to it does well? Okay....

This was particularly insta love fluff. Limited plot expect when we're getting deep cuts randomly going to the hospital in the calm of their love building. lol. The writing is just very straightforward. Lots of cuteness though. Obsessed with the dragons. I need them all like I need water. I liked all the characters. They're a cute couple. Why are they engaged by the end of summer? One may never know. The art was really pretty and I think that's where the book shined.

Listen, I would read an entire six book series just about these characters and their lil dragon. Blue was the superior dragon until of course my boy Moss showed up

I loved the art of this, it was so beautiful and cozy. The representation of PCOS alongside the gorgeous sapphic relationship made me honestly tear up multiple times.

It’s very episodic slice of life and a great pick me up for when you need something a bit cozier.

The art in this graphic novel is a stand out! I really enjoyed the character expressions and the coloring. The story left a little to be desired. The story is told in choppy chapters and doesn’t really flow in one cohesive story. Instead, I felt like I missed out on character/relationship development scenes that could have added a lot more substance to this graphic novel. It was sweet, cozy, and filled with fun moments.

As a longtime fan of Amanda Lovelace’s poetry, I was SO EXCITED for their first graphic novel and it did not disappoint! It was so cute, charming and whimsical. I loved Luci and Aster SO MUCH. They were such a good team and I loved how they constantly showed up for each other and their community. The look at PCOS was done so well and showed how often doctors dismiss and minimize it. Also, their little family of dragons was just so adorable! I also loved the little references to Amanda’s poetry books (the slay those dragons one was too funny!) and the illustration was absolutely stunning! I would LOVE another graphic novel set in this world. It was a delight to read and as always, I’m forever excited to read anything Amanda Lovelace writes!

The cover for this one caught my eye on Netgalley and this one sounded so fun I knew I wanted to read it. Books, Iced Coffee & a Side of Dragons is exactly what the title promises it's a sweet cozy fantasy romance story about a girl who runs a book store and she falls in love with a girl who runs a coffee stand and there are dragons. It was such a sweet and cute summer-y read and I enjoyed reading this one.

I had to get used to the style of this book a bit. The chapters, if you can call them that, are very short, only a page or two. Which means this book reads like very short scenes before skipping to the next one. It could feel a bit jarring and it took me some time to get used to it. I would've liked some longer scenes or more transitions, but I got used to the style after a while and could better enjoy the book then.

I had a great time reading this one. It was a fun one to briefly pick up an read a few pages in between doing other things. I liked reading about the characters. The romance did develop very quickly and I wouldn't have minded a bit more there about why they fell for the other, but this book mostly just focusses on the cute scenes of them getting together and then dating afterwards. And these two were just so sweet and cute together and I liked reading about them. The dragons are fantastic too, each of them are so cute and I liked seeing them pop up and how they are part of the story. There are some fun side characters too like George and the employee who works at the bookstore.

The story mostly focusses on some slice of life type scenes with them running their stores and going on dates and spending time together. It does touch upon some more heavy topics now and then, with it being mentioned one of the characters has PCOS and that being shown in a few scenes and a dead relative being mentioned. There's also a bit of a dangerous situation going on later on and how the characters deal with that. Most of the story and tone stays pretty light and it has an uplifting and hopeful tone.

With graphic novels I always find the art style an important part of the experience and the artstyle was great here. I really liked how cute and cozy the style was and especially the dragons and facial expressions were so well done. The art really adds to the story and I liked looking at the pretty art while reading this one. I feel like the artstyle also helps a bit with the scene transitions and setting the stage and does some heavy lifting in that regard.

To summarize: I had a great time reading this one, it's a very cute and sweet cozy fantasy romance story involving books, coffee and dragons. The short scenes could feel a bit jarring at first, but I did get used to it the more I read. The romances progress quite quickly and I wouldn't have minded a bit more time before they got together, but I also didn't mind too much as I enjoyed reading about them together. They make for a very cute couple and there are plenty of sweet scenes. The artstyle is great and fit the story perfectly. I liked how the art added to the story and it carries a lot of weight in telling the story as well. All in all I had a great time reading this one and can recommend it if you're looking for a fun, sweet and summer-y cozy fantasy graphic novel.

I picked up Books, Iced Coffee & a Side of Dragons because, honestly, the title alone made me want to read it. Books, iced coffee, and dragons are three things that immediately caught my eye and that I found adorable.

I love all three, and I'm so glad I picked this up.This was such a comforting read from beginning to end; the adorableness made me nearly go "aww" on every page.

The artwork is beautiful and full of charm and whimsy. Every page felt warm and inviting, with the cuteness building up to become even cuter.

I found myself falling in love with the illustrations, especially when it came to the dragons, and some scenes were just too adorable.It's not often I gush over a book, but I am gushing over this one because it hooked me from beginning to end for the dragons alone.

Yet, the romance that formed was also so sweet and pure, and it was lovely seeing it blossom into something they both needed. We see how someone can understand you, see beyond the fear you hide behind, and see nothing but beauty. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I also loved that this wasn't trying to be an action-packed fantasy; it was a fun, cosy read that focuses on the quieter moments, friendships, and finding happiness in everyday life—the moments we take for granted but in the end mean so much.

These quieter moments are sometimes the stories that stay with me the longest and that, when we look back, we wish we had more of.The dragons were easily one of my favourite parts, especially with them being a little mischievous at times, which just added to the charm.

If I'm honest, I'd happily spend a day in this world with a book in one hand, an iced coffee in the other, and dragons wandering around me. And if I am being completely honest, I would be using a total baby voice around them as well because they are so precious.

The café and bookshop setting made everything even cosier. It felt like the kind of place I'd genuinely want to visit if it existed, and being by the sea with that fresh sea air makes it seem like heaven.By the time I reached the final page, I didn't want it to end. It left me with that warm feeling you get after finishing a book that simply makes you happy.

There were also illustrations that made me laugh (like a little fire baby dragon wrapped in a scarf and jacket)—it was adorable yet had me laughing so much.

Overall, this was a wonderful graphic novel. It made me smile, helped me slow down for a little while, and reminded me that not every story needs huge twists or dramatic moments to leave an impression—especially if you are like me and cuteness and dragons make you smile. Sometimes spending time with good characters, a cosy setting, and a few dragons is more than enough.

This was an easy five-star read for me, and it's one I'll definitely be recommending to anyone who loves cosy graphic novels with a little bit of magic.

𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿: anyone who loves cosy fantasy, adorable creatures, found family, sweet romance, bookshops, little everyday moments of kindness, and stories that feel like a warm hug.

I would like to know where I can sign up for my own tiny dragon companion and a life by the sea with books and iced coffee, please.

This was absolutely adorable. Sometimes you find a story that doesn't need huge dramatic twists or endless chaos to leave an impression. Sometimes all it needs is a little bookshop, a lot of heart, and tiny dragons causing tiny dragon problems. And apparently that is exactly what I needed.

This graphic novel fully understood the assignment. It was sugary sweet, but in the best possible way. Underneath all the cuteness there was still friendship, support, community, and real emotions woven through the pages. It wasn't just cute for the sake of being cute. It had a little beating heart hiding underneath all those dragon scales.

Speaking of dragons... I need them all. Every single one.

The dragons were everything I wanted them to be and more. I spent most of this book mentally preparing adoption papers for fictional creatures that sadly do not exist. Which feels extremely unfair. 😂

The relationships were just as lovely. Not only the romance, but all the little connections forming around the bookstore. The romance had that happy, comfortable, slightly bouncy feeling of two people who genuinely enjoy each other, and I adored that. And somehow everyone got their little moment. From the smallest dragon to the grumpiest human, the whole world felt like somewhere I wanted to visit.

The artwork deserves so much love too. The style fit the story perfectly and brought out all the softness and charm this world needed. It really felt like the right artist found the right story.

My biggest problem? There isn't more. Very rude honestly.

This book isn't even officially out yet and I am already sitting here waiting for another visit to this world. I want more dragons, more bookstore moments, more seaside happiness. Just more.

Until then I guess I'll just be here imagining myself drinking pink lemonade by the beach with a tiny dragon next to me.
