Born in 2015 out a dream of creating a homegrown, sex-positive conversation, Agents of Ishq exploded into an unexpected a delicious falooda of desi slang, swagger and sensuality. The project had people from across the country spontaneously and unexpectedly sharing their most intimate stories that defied taboos and shimmered with humour and heart. Neither research nor reportage, Agents of Ishq quickly became a living archive of emotion; a collective diary written by Indians speaking their desires aloud.
Love, Sex and The Agents of Ishq Anthology brings together some of these evocative stories that evade all binaries-cheeky reports of first dates, situationships, hook-ups; tales of longing, of heartbreak, of tender friendships; grim accounts of sexual exploitation and assault; frank advice on masturbation; solemn revelations about queerness; thrilling confessions on kink, and so much more. Each story opens a window into the many worlds we live in, inviting us to celebrate the messy magical business of love and lust-made in India.
About the Editor
Paromita Vohra is a filmmaker and writer whose body of truth-telling, playful and intensely sensuous work spans documentary films, music videos, art installations, television programming, screenplays and writing of all kinds. Her films include the landmark UnLimited Girls and Q2P. She is the writer of the film Khamosh Pani, several comics, the play Ishqiya Dharavi Ishtyle and a weekly newspaper column, ParoNormal Activity, now in its fifteenth year. She has also written an agony aunty column at several points in her career. In 2015, she founded Agents of Ishq, now India's best-loved digital platform about love, sex and desire. Her antakshari skills are legendary, according to her.

The Agents of Ishq project was created in 2015 to facilitate an understanding and dialogue regarding issues of sexuality. It is a multi-media project about sex, love and desire. They make cool videos, beautiful images, mazedaar comics, maps and podcasts, to create both informational material as well as a space for many different experiences of intimacy and desire. I was always curious about their work and this anthology was a good entry point to their media. This book was a collection of essays around love, sexuality and desire in all its forms. It looks at friendships, queer relationships, kinks, marriage, sex education and more. I enjoyed most of the essays and loved the honesty and vulnerability with which they were written. There were some essays that did make me uncomfortable and got me thinking about desire and love in different ways. Overall I’d recommend this book to anyone curious about love, desire and sexuality.
