Iris Camden thought she knew who her family was even if they weren’t always forthcoming. Her half sister is a medium reeling from the loss of her biological mother. Her estranged father is an obsessed government worker who cannot reveal what he does. When an artifact appears in a ghost hunting expedition, Iris is the last person who wants to believe in aliens.
Iris is angered by the claims of a ghost who warns of an outer-space threat. She turns to a UFO chasing scientist for answers, and Mitchell becomes convinced an alien plague in the form of light will cause a rapid evolution making humans susceptible to enemy suggestion. He is also certain her father may be part of a huge conspiracy and should not be made aware of the artifact.
The dark secrets of her family’s past begin to unravel, and Iris will be forced to consider fantasy as reality and take the ultimate risk to save those she loves.

( Format : Audiobook ) "Am i back? Am I alive? Again?" Iris and D.J. are half sisters. One is a ghost hunter, the other a medium. Mitchell is an U.F.O. chaser. Iris' dad always warned her against bothering with the idea of aliens, but he'd left their mother years ago to join some top secret organisation, and there was something very appealing about Mitchell. D.J's mother died a couple of years ago but keeps coming back to talk at her daughter. When a very strange poltergeist is haunting the home of Iris' latest client and crop circles are seen actually being formed in a farmer's field, the two teams of U.F.O. and ghost hunters find themselves drawn together, pulled into a strange and frantic attempt to save the world. But from who, and how, and what can they trust? Not even their own experiences, it seems.
Well.(deep breath),this book blends together virtually everything: ghostly apparitions and artefacts, flying toiletry items, psychic experiences, family dynamics and responsibility, Native American folklore, spaceships and various varieties of alien, time travel and weird in-space battles, human evolution, government consipracies, self doubt, suspicions and romance. It all gets thrown into the mixing pot in this remarkably wide ranging, sophisticated science fiction story. Yet at times it also reads like something out of the Famous Five. A strange mix.
Similarly, narrator Ann Simmons has a pleasant sounding voice, with good intonation and adherence to text. She also gives good individual voicing to the characters. Yet her performance, though good, seemed to become too monotone, leaving this reader struggling to stay awzke. Perhaps there was something mesmeric in the book? Very strange.
The whole leaves this reader conflicted: some great ideas and well executed visual sections yet with characters who seem, for all their angst and introspection, rather foolish and two dimensional. I was fortunate in being freely gifted a complimentary copy of Coalescence, at my request, by the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you - it was certainly ambitious and different. Would I recommend it? Possibly to someone obsessed with U.F.Os and government's determination to hide anything unexplained from the public. It is good fun, after all.
Wow, really enjoyed this Sci-Fi gem from Gary Starta, beautifully narrated by Ann Simmons. Ann, you did an outstanding job! Really gave the story life, and that's everything :)
This was part paranormal, part sci-fi, part alien, part everything! In a good way. All the things I love into one! :) I was on the edge of my seat; I thought the characters were well-developed and the story well-written.
Treat yourself to a long and enjoyable listen, with Coalescence - and I'm looking forward to more in the series! It's that time of year to cozy up with a book or three :) I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I received this book for free for a honest review. I loved the characters and storyline. it flowed very well and held together. The author did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. aliens, ghosts, this book has it all!!! reccomend
Interesting enough that I didn't need sleep. Has elements of paranormal and IF I investigators. Kept me enthralled. Read it in one sitting. Will definitely read more by this author.
Iris Camden doesn’t know her family like she thought she did. Her half-sister is a medium that’s still coping with the loss of their mother. While her father works for the government and keeping secrets from her. Iris doesn’t want to believe in aliens, but when a strange object appears while on a ghost hunt it’s even hard for her to ignore.
When she’s warned by a ghost of a possible alien invasion she finds herself at the doorsteps of Mitchell a UFO scientist for answers. Mitchell has some wild theory about an alien plague that can cause rapid evolution in humans. There are secrets on top of secrets that Iris must unravel before she finds the answers she’s looking for.
This book has a lot of twists and turns. I don’t normally read sci-fi but the combination of sci-fi and paranormal is very interesting. This author gives it all to you action, suspense, and adventure. You can’t go wrong with a combo like that in my opinion.
This author does a great job of combining these two genres. You can tell he researched and developed this story thoroughly. If you have never read sci-fi this will definitely get you interested in more. I can’t wait to read more in this series.
I just finished the epic book, Coalescence by fellow independent author Gary Starta. The genre of the book is not my usual reading fare, but Gary does a great job of blending paranormal and UFO investigation in by mixing a group of hormonally charged male UFOlogists and female paranormal investigators as the embark on a quest to save humanity directed by the apparent spirit of a deceased alien.
This is an ambitious work of substantial length and Starta does a great job of keeping the reader engaged with just enough suspense and complex subplot elements to keep the reader turning the page. I recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of either the science fiction or paranormal genre. This book demonstrates that these two genres can exist and 'coalesce' in the same book. Nice job and a true quality effort.
Iris Camden and D.J. are half sisters. When their mom dies D.J. can't wrap her head around the death, The fact that her mom's spirit won't pass over and stays in contact may be part of her problem. Being a psychic does have it's drawbacks. Iris has a paranormal investigation group called Colorado ghost hunters. When an object of unknown origins is found, Iris's group teams up with The Eyes on Colorado Skies investigators because their is a definite connection with aliens. It is going to take both groups and a few more along the way to figure out how the object is a threat to earth and to also figure a way to try and stop what could be total annihilation of earth as we know it. The author did an amazing job combining spiritual with science fiction in this adventure of a lifetime.
In Gary Starta's Coalescence (Camden Investigations Book 1), we are taken through an adventure with Iris, a ghost hunter whose latest encounter leads her to begin working with scientists studying an alien species. Her journey leads her to a complicated relationship with Mitchell and to the discovery of incredible secrets within her own family. This story was definitely a fast-past journey with a surprisingly touching ending. I was especially intrigued with the space-time continuum references and aspects of theoretical physics. I applaud the author for researching this topic and making it comprehensible to any reader out there. I highly recommend this fascinating read as I believe it may turn anyone into a science fiction fan.
This book was right up my alley! I love Ancient Aliens, Native American legends & lore, and mythology. I'm not much on conspiracy theories, but I still think they're fun! I loved the interplay between science, myth, and lore. I loved the characters and how they worked together, questioning, challenging, doubting, & searching. The personalities and varied beliefs of the protagonists helped to not only drive the story, but to enrich it, adding humanity to the tale in a moving way. This was a smart and innovative story and I'm looking forward to the next installments of the series!
I am a great sci-fi fan, and this book drew me in. First, I really love the character of Iris, a ghost hunter, but Starta brings in the threat of mankind by an impending alien attack. UFOs and Ghosts! Starta is a genius about combining this into one great story. From beginning to end, it's a wild journey into the deep investigation and quest to save humanity.
This book has it all!Watching for evidence of the paranormal,Aliens instead are found. There are good ones and bad ones.It is a whirlwind!Ann Simmons was a fine narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
