A GREAT CAST OF CHARACTERS LED BY THE OUTRAGEOUS FATHER BRENNAN.A stolen trout. An unusual confession. A dead greyhound on a skateboard. Vengeance. A sex scandal. Rumours of a demon and an erotic book. From his seat of power in the back room of Lavelle's pub, Father James Brennan plans revenge. No one can predict the hilarious results that draw the priest into the most unlikely situations. Described by a critic as Father Ted does strictly come fishing.
What a brilliant book this is, I've laughed almost all the way through it, Father Brennan is an absolute joy, and the things he gets up to are hilarious, yet his faith is so strong, I am not a Catholic but I'd love to meet a priest like him, a thoroughly good read which I enjoyed immensely.
A pure joy to read. I'm waiting for them to start filming The Father Brennan Series because Norman Morrow's book is so vivid, the characters so alive that they need to be on screen. A brilliantly witty portrayal of a rural parish and the eccentric priest in its midst. Father James Brennan is a priest with a passion for life and he doesn't let the priesthood get in the way of his love of fishing, a good malt whiskey and playing the odd trick on his friends. What begins as an amusing tale of everyday mischief and fly fishing soon escalates into a brush with evil and intercession from the Vatican. Loved this book and loved the characters who felt like old friends at the end of the book. Marvellously funny.
This is one of the most enjoyable books I have read recently, with a wonderful character, Father James Brennan, a lovable priest. He has a devious mind, he is cantankerous, but he also has a heart of gold. There are many other interesting characters in the story and their meeting place is the local Pub, Lavelle's in Castlebridge. However, this is not only a character driven story, it has a very clever plot which takes Father Brennan all the way to the Vatican. Hilarious, poignant, heart-warming and very human. A compelling read by a wonderful story-teller, Norman Morrow. Thoroughly recommended.
This book starts with a confession and brings in transvestite priests, trickery, the Vatican, a demon, fishing, a dead dog on a skateboard and much more!! A brilliant Irish comedy with a very loveable and hilarious not so conventional priest as a main character. Did not want to put it down. Filled with twists, turns, laughter and fantastic characters this is a must read for anyone looking for a great book to lift them up. Really enjoyed, hoping to see more from this author xx
