Happily Kilted Ever After #3

Loathing, Law, and Love

Rate this book
Eilish

I’ve spent years outsmarting Brodie Cameron in courtrooms all across Edinburgh.
He’s cold, cocky, infuriatingly confident—and unfortunately, Scotland’s most talented divorce attorney.
My opposite in every way.
My professional nemesis.
My very last choice for anything.

So when the Ministry announces a lucrative new Family Law Initiative… and we learn it’s only open to attorney couples with stable real-life relationships, there’s no universe where I expect my boss to say:

“Congratulations, Eilish. You’re marrying Brodie Cameron.”

For the contract.
For the funding.
For one year.
Brodie

I don’t believe in marriage.
I dismantle them for a living.

Eilish Dunn is everything I avoid—warm, idealistic, irresistible in ways that make me furious. She wins cases with her heart. I win with my teeth.

But now we’re stuck in a fake marriage, sharing an apartment, pretending to be Scotland’s golden couple.
She drives me mad.
She smells like vanilla and sharp wit.
She’s fire, and I’m freezing—and it turns out opposites don’t just attract…

They collide.

Thank you to the author, publisher and BookSirens for this ARC!

This was such a good book to unwind with after a busy week of work and I absolutely devoured this in one sitting. The tension between them, their brilliance in court, their interactions and the dialogues? Oh, I was hooked instantly. I loved the banter between Eilish and Brodie so much. I was giggling the entire time.

The chemistry between them was SO good! They were the perfect complements to each other's personalities. Watching them both realise that they are slowly falling for each other was the most satisfying thing to see. The unresolved tension between them that intensified with every chapter. The realisation that they were both in deep trouble the more time they spend together. The realisation that violating their contract terms was gonna be easier than following them. Oh I LOVED it all. I felt like a proud mother hen the entire time. There were some parts that felt slightly predictable but the witty lines and the burning tension between them made up for it.

Eilish and Brodie have numerous interactions but my favourite part was them unashamedly respecting and acknowledging each other's brilliance in court despite disliking each other. I loved that part so much. This was a well written book and I really enjoyed knowing both of their POVs!

Loathing, Law and Love is an entertaining start or rather, a very convincing argument to go back and read the first book in the Happily Kilted Ever After series.

From the opening pages, the chemistry between the two leads is impossible to miss, they really despise each other. The banter is sharp, funny, and genuinely enjoyable to read which the kind that makes you grin without even realizing it. But what elevates the story beyond a straightforward enemies-to-lovers setup is how it gradually peels back the layers on both the FMC and MMC, giving real weight to why they are the way they are. It's a satisfying shift that rounds out the story and makes you care about the outcome.

The ending does feel a bit rushed, like the story found its resolution a little too quickly, but it didn't dampen my enthusiasm for the series. If anything, it sent me straight to the first book.

If you enjoy witty banter, slow-burn chemistry, and a romance with some emotional substance underneath, this one is worth your time.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Okay.... I freaking loved this book!

I've been going through kind of a rough patch and a reading slump, and boy, this book had me hooked from the start. I laughed so much reading it, the dialogue was honestly one of my favorite parts, so witty and hilarious! So many great lines I read and kept rereading because they were absolutely genius. The banter felt soooo real and sharp, and I found myself grinning like an idiot all the time. Laughter, such good therapy!!!

And the slow burn? SO good. The tension just kept building in the best way, and when things finally started shifting between them, it felt completely earned. You could feel all the history and unresolved feelings simmering under the surface.

This is the third book in the Happily Kilted Ever After series and I just love being back in this world. There’s something about the setting and these characters that feels so addictive. Every installment just pulls me in deeper.

Please keep them coming, Ms Lacey, I’m not ready to say goodbye to this series anytime soon!

A very well written book about two brilliant lawyers with totally different and opposite strengths: Brodie of the logical man and Eilish is the emotional woman. Both are brilliant and pretty much unbeatable by anyone in the courtroom, except by each other. Their differences complement each other perfectly but it also makes them clash. So when they are coupled by their respective law firms to lead an nationwide initiative that could change law in Scotland, they know it’s great for their careers but a pain in the butt to be forced to be near each other all the time. I liked how the setup was handled, the world building and both of their emotional growth. It was handled well. I would have enjoyed a little bit more depth and exploration of the relationship but at the same time I understand the author’s wish to wrap things up. The ending was a bit cliche and predictable but that didn’t make it a less enjoyable read.
There are two sexually explicit scenes that might be offensive to some readers.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, for which I’d like to thank the author and publisher. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed it. I have never read a book based in Scotland that wasn’t a Highlander based book and would like to read more. Eilish is a lovable and formable FMC. Brodie is a classic by the rules type of man. They have some good banter and are oil and water for sure, but good things can come from that dynamic.

Eilish and Brodie are talented divorce lawyers. She looks at divorce with a heart and Brodie looks at divorce from the head. Together they are to work on setting up the new Family Law Initiative for Scotland. They have to be married to bring a great deal of money to their law firms. This book is a lot of fun as Brodie struggles to find heart. I loved how Eilish worked to find common ground.

Very fun, loved the characters and the banter, I could almost see the britbox series playing in my head while I read it. A quick read, and absolutely does not require reading the earlier books in the series.

I am a sucker for enemies to lover romances, and this one did not disappoint. The dialogue kept me reading, and it was a nice escape with some very satisfying beats. These days I look for more gender equity in plot lines, and I love strong, intellectual women as primary characters. Was just the right mix! Overall, this was a highly enjoyable, nice escape that was realistic enough with solid plot points that there weren't any of the 'eye roll' moments you can get in romance novels. I will want to read the rest of the series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
